https://www.sammobile.com/news/samsung-galaxy-s7-stops-update-four-years-after-launch/ RIP, i'm gonna run my phone to the ground until they released a phone without the damn hole punch, i really wish they'd make 2 variants of the same new phones one without the selfie cam and one with as a trail run and let people decide if they want both as i've never once used the damn thing.

Hey again. I just got my new Samsung Galaxy S7 Edge. So here is my problem. Im tethering my phone WLAN to my PC via USB connection. But my PC is like.. NOPE.. i don't want any of those weird junk on my USB ports. For the first 5-10 seconds the tethering works just fine but after that, nothing will load on my Chrome Browser. Im still online in Discord, Steam and other programs like these. Well, i can't load pages on steam, just like Chrome but downloading patches from games works in steam. After 1-2 hours my PC kinda catched it and the tethering works fully normal. Sometimes nothing happen after a whole day if i don't remove my phone from the PC. My old S4 Mini handled is without any problems (It's broken). I tried to check my WLAN options on my phone to make sure it's not turning off the WLAN but after chaning these options nothing happend. -Icefly

Hey, So i'm thinking of buying this screen protector for my s7 edge : https://www.zagg.com/us/en_us/invisibleshield/samsung-galaxy-s7-edge/glass-curve-samsung-galaxy-s7-edge I know it's expensive but it's better than replacing the entire screen if i accidentally break it, the case is like edge to edge so only a few cases work with it and i'm if anyone what some of those cases are Cheers.

Hi there, About 4 months ago, my Samsung galaxy S7 edge became water damaged. I was at a party and I was thrown into a pool several times with my phone in my pocket. When I tried to turn on my phone the next day many things did not function properly: Both cameras was filled with water. Although they eventually dried out, the launch times for the cameras have never been the same with it sometimes taking up to a minute to launch up when the home button is double pressed. The device takes a while wake. I don't know if this is a problem with the home button or the screen, but it takes a while and sometimes many presses of the home/lock button to wake the device. The fingerprint scanner also seems to have taken a hit as it takes wayyy longer to detect my fingerprint. The proximity sensor is broken. The phone no longer detects when I put my face against it during calls. The notification LED also stays on all the time now. The GPS system does not work. In maps, its always says GPS signal not found. The best I can get usually is an approximate location of where I am which sucks because I cannot use to the phone to navigate me. The accelerometer, gyroscope and compass does not work anymore. This is a shame because the phone does not rotate automatically anymore and VR stuff is impossible. The phone overall feels really sluggish. It lags from time to time and does not feel the same anymore. what I want to know is if I could replace these parts (maximum priority on the accelerometer, gyroscope, compass and GPS). And how much it would cost to repair these problems. I lost all documentation of the phone so warranty is not an option. My original plan was to just use the phone as it is and wait for the s8 to come out but the s8 was not what I expected. With no improvements on features like the rear camera to the seemingly small battery capacity and stupid placement of the rear fingerprint sensor I find it abit hard to justify spending 700 dollars on it. Thanks for the help guys!

Hey Everyone, So recently bought a galaxy s7 edge and i love the phone and i plan on using it for a year or two, so i'm looking for way to protect the device, i already have a case for the back of the phone but that doesn't covert the screen so i looked up some Tempered Glass Scrren protectors and found these three to be the top results: https://www.ultimateshield.co.uk/collections/galaxy-s7-edge/products/samsung-galaxy-s7-edge-black-tempered-glass-screen-protector https://www.gpelstore.com/collections/galaxy-s7-edge-3d-hd-full-cover-glass-starting-30/products/galaxy-s7-edge-gs7-edge-full-coverage-corning-authentic-gorilla-glass-screen-protector?variant=25887544711 https://www.zagg.com/us/en_us/invisibleshield/samsung-galaxy-s7-edge/glass-curve-samsung-galaxy-s7-edge Now all these have 9H hardness and that's what i'm after , they also offer edge to edge protector so it covers the entire screen what i don't know is which one is the best, price isn't an issue i just want to protect the phone, any help at finding a solution will be greatly appreciated. Thanks!!

So i bricked my phone (S7 Edge) by taking out the sim card tray while the always on display was on. Now it doesn't respond to power, screen, or the buttons.... HALP (gonna wait 4 the battery to die, I'll see what happens)

So i swapped my Note 7 in for a S7 Edge, Now i think its the worst mistake of my life. I had this phone for less then a week and its all scratched up. How it did it get scratched up? In a empty, lint free cotton pocket with nothing else in it. Called Samsung or Verizon? Yeah, Samsung said "Cant help call Verizon", Called Verizon.... They said "Yeah i have one on my own and you'll need something for it to scratch it" uhm..... well it was a empty clean pocket "no impossible" (Chick has a bit of a british accent, pretty hot sounding *fuck my gf is gonna kill me*) Picture? My camera skills suck major dick..... I would like to get rid of the scratches somehow cause it does get annoying in Videos and Games cause there noticable but i cant get help from Verizon and Samsung, legit my only plan is the replace it and im too much a nervous wreck to do a glass replacement on the damn thing.

Hello dear people. I know that now when the samsung s8 is out on the market the s7 and s7 edge is less appleing to buy but I still felt like I needed to post this for someone that considers buying one. I've used the s7 edge since September last year and loved evrything about it. Evrything from the edge screen to the camera feels awesome to use, but there is a problem with it that I can't seem to find in this forum. I've dropped my phone a total of 3-4 times this last year and the first time something relly weird happend, you see the screen started flickering and pulsating this green light that coverd almost half of the bottom screen making the phone unusable and I had to return it to the store. i did not give it much thought at first though I felt like it was my own fault i dropped it (without a case covering it). but a month ago i just bumped my phone into a wooden table and the screen started flickering in the exakt same way once again, and this was on the same model but a diffrent phone so I assumed it couldent be a coincidence. So i googled it and found that the s7 edge has a poor bulid quality that results in the flickering when droped or bumped into something. I know that electonics issent build for fall damge but I mean come on Samsung, your phone can't break down just cuz someone once bumped it. It has no scratches or craks at all either. Also I don't think this applies to the regular s7, I could only find anything online about the edge model. And as far as I could tell from Samsungs website they don't refund you for this. I tried to restart the phone a couple of times, i even went as far as factory reseting it wich I don't recomend. my screen will only light up for a split second before going dark again. So this is obviously not a software thing. the touchscreen still works but whenever i lanuch a application on the phone evrything turns green. I posted this to spread the information but if you have any suggestion on solution i will welcome you with open arms. (ps sorry for my poor spelling, English is not my main language) This video shows a bit how it looks but with the constant flickering.

Is the S7 Edge still good in 2017.

Hello Linus Tech Tips Community & how is everybody doing! Is it possible to unlock an ATT Galaxy S7 Edge and continue paying off the remaining balance on it every month without ATT noticing? It's not convenient to pay the remainder off all at once at the moment, and I desperately need to get a different sim card with another provider. http://www.cellunlocker.net This website says that they can unlock the device for ~$25. The important question is, will ATT notice if I unblock it or not? Thanks in advance.

Hi, I really don't know what's going on with my phone. A few days ago, I've had problems with some adware pop-ups in Chrome which I couldn't close (always opened themselves again when I tried to kill them in the task manager). My phone started overheating. Even in idle it reached more than 70°C. According to the CPU-Z app only the "therm_zones" are that hot, the battery is actually cool at 30 to 40°C. I've used some removal apps and they found two malicious files. I don't remember the exact names but one of them was called something like "Android.PUP....." and the other one was "Android.Ad.Screen...." I thought that's it, just some stupid adware and it's gone. I was wrong. No matter how many times I restarted the phone it didn't cool down or got hot again after a break. Only when it's locked and not doing anything it will stay cool. As soon as I unlock it and e.g. read something in a browser or watch a YouTube video it gets really hot. So I decided to reset the phone. I've tried a factory reset in the settings, a hard reset in the Android bootmenu (wipe data factory reset). It just didn't help. My phone still gets that hot. So I've tried another factory reset. It didn't help. I've never restored any backups of course. I've also looked at the running services in the developer options but there's nothing suspicious. I'm pretty sure it's not physically damaged or anything else, since nothing like dropping that could've damaged it happened and the overheating problem started almost exactly after removing these two weird files. But I really don't get why it's still happening after multiple factory resets (which even reinstalls Android as far as I know). The phone can be used now but I'm worried about the temps and it's almost too hot to touch while using it, even with a thick cover.

Hey, everyone. I recently downloaded Microsoft Launcher for my S7 Edge to try and pair it with my phone. However, it seemed too intrusive so I opted to stick with TouchWiz. I also had to factory reset my phone yesterday, but that resulted in no issues and I was able to restore from a backup. However, I woke up this morning to a VERY nasty surprise. The launcher had changed and everything looked different. I tried to change the default home screen app back to TouchWiz, but the only app I saw there was 'Samsung Experience Home'. I despise the new look and would really appreciate some help changing back to the default look. Thanks, Aereldor.

Qualcomm has announced a new flagship mobile processor called the Snapdragon 821. The 821 is a slight update to the Snapdragon 820 that debuted in smartphones earlier this year and promises modest performance gains. On this year's flagship phones like S7 and S7 edge (not all of them), the HTC 10, the LG G5, the OnePlus 3, and the Xiaomi Mi5, Snapdragon 820 was the heart of their body. Qualcomm says the Snapdragon 821 builds upon the 820’s features, but provides a 10 percent performance increase. Its quad-core CPU runs at 2.4GHz. The company says it will debut in smartphones and other devices in the second half of this year. Perhaps we’ll see it first appear in the next Samsung Galaxy Note? The 821 is about as exciting a refresh as its model number implies: its Kryo CPU cores will run at a maximum clock speed of 2.4GHz, a roughly 10 percent increase from the 2.15GHz cores in the Snapdragon 820. There's no word on whether the 821's two slower cores in the CPU will be faster than the 1.6GHz in the current chip. Qualcomm's press release doesn't mention the GPU's speed increasing, and it says specifically that the 821 will use the same 600Mbps Snapdragon X12 LTE modem as the 820. To achieve the higher speeds, Qualcomm says it bumped the clock rates of the 14-nanometer chip from 2.1 to 2.4 GHz. Otherwise, it's borrowing the Snapdragon 820's tech, including the 600 Mbps X12 LTE modem, Ultra HD Voice tech for improved call quality, and Upload+ for faster downloads. At the same time, it'll deliver greater speeds, battery life and app performance. ASUS ZenFone 3 Deluxe Said To Be The First Smartphone To Feature A Snapdragon 821 (Not sure about it, WCCFTECH source) Qualcomm says "you can expect commercial devices powered by the 821 in the second half of 2016" with more information coming soon. Source: arstechnica, The Verge, engadget.

So the s7 edge has a back camera that has 12 MP while the Note 4 has a back camera 16 MP. How is the S7 be called the "best camera smartphone," when there is a 4 MP difference?

So I plan on purchasing a new phone soon, and am pretty set on either the Samsung S7 or S7 Edge, but I am not completely sure on which exact one to go for, I feel like the S7 is slightly more affordable for me since it is exactly S$100 cheaper then the Edge variant, but upon using the edge, it doesn't seem that bad either. Would you guys consider the Edge to be worth the extra S$100?

I was trying to copy music that I have on my computer, onto my phone. I connected my phone via usb and made sure that it is set to media file transfer. I can see the Phone in File Explorer but when I try and open it, File Explorer crashes. Not only does it crash, but it crashes my desktop aswell. The screen goes black and the only thing(s) that remain are opened tabs. I cannot access anything else, not even the start menu. Ctrl + Alt + Delete does work properly and it will open the task manager. I am new to the android ecosystem and am not entirely sure if I am doing something wrong or if there is a bug. Anyone have any suggestions?

Recently whenever I play any video, either on my phone or streamed, sound fades away to nothing after a few seconds. I did research the problem and it looks like others have had this issue with other phones a few years ago and fixed it by disabling Google Now, but that does not work for me. Anyone else with this issue?

I have a Samsung S7 Edge and I only use the wireless charging. I've got into a habit of just putting the phone on the pad all the time and was wondering is it bad for the phone. the phone remains cool all the time

Just a small warning that I have been using Samsung phones for years, but I am trying to be as objective as possible with this review. So here's the good and bad points about Samsung's latest offering. The Samsung Galaxy S7 Edge is the latest flagship from Samsung and has officially been on sale since the 11th of March 2016. The device features Samsung's latest advancements in various different areas, in this review, I'll be sure to go down in sections, covering the important parts and leaving some room for discussion and criticism. 1. Design Since the Galaxy S6, Samsung have adopted their aluminium-banded Gorilla Glass design on the front and back of the handset, this makes for an absolutely stunning look. But make no mistake, it's an absolute fingerprint magnet! All fingerprints aside however, this device looks absolutely beautiful, and in my opinion, it has to be, by far, the most innovative design I've seen since the early iPhone. In a world where smartphones are starting to look the same wherever you look, the S7 Edge really holds its own in the design arena. I absolutely love how that 2.5D Gorilla Glass curves flush into the bezel, making a sleek, elegant design accent to this handset. The QHD Super AMOLED display just tops off the design aspect of the device, allowing for an Always-On, convenient display which we have seen in other phones like LG's line-up. Taking a look at the back of the device, Samsung have made some very discreet changes this year, they've slightly curved the edges for a more ergonomic "in-the-hand" feel, and to be honest, it really sits very nicely, however (and it may seem really picky) but it's slippery, you really want to get this phone in a case of some description, which granted will probably defeat the object of buying this phone for the looks, but if you don't then it's going to fall right out of your hands. Something new and coming to devices that we've seen, like the Sony Tablet Z4 is capless water resistance, meaning the ports on the device can be exposed to the elements and still resist water from accessing the crucial components internally. The S7 Edge is IP68 Water Resistant to 1m for 30 minutes, or around 1.5m for 15-20 minutes, but be warned, this doesn't mean you won't trigger the water-damage indicator right under the SIM tray, and Samsung won't replace devices damaged by water as stated in the warranty for the handset. Overall, the design is amazing, and although not a massive step-up from the Galaxy S6, you'd be hard-pressed to find a better looking device depending on what you're into in terms of smartphones, as there are many to choose from at the moment, with more emerging on the market everyday. 2. Performance So we'll just get the specs out of the way right now, this year's S-Series device sports Samsung's latest Exynos 8890 if you live outside of the US, or the Snapdragon 820 if you're in the US, 4GB LP-DDR4 RAM, 2560x1440 534PPI QHD Super AMOLED display and a 12MP, f/1.7 rear snapper with OIS and Phase-Detection AF (It's also worth noting that the camera is more flush with the body of the phone as the device is 0.9mm thicker than the previous S6, presumably for all that waterproofing stuff). in terms of raw stats, the S7 and S7 Edge are not slouches, the Snapdragon 820 variants clocking in 2282 Single-Core and 4979 Multi-Core respectively on Geekbench3. AnTuTu score clocks in at 125,282 which is massive, although this could be down to the Adreno 503 GPU which supports high-end gaming. 3. OS/Functionality This year, we have Samsung shipping it's latest flagship with Google's latest consumer offering 6.0.1 Marshmallow skinned (as usual) with Touchwiz, Samsung's proprietary launcher and UX design, it's to be noted that Touchwiz has received lots of criticism over the years for being heavily bloated and childish, but since the S6, Samsung have come a long way in making it more optimized and suited for all users, now with more options for changing themes, setting the grid size on the homescreen which is an option we've seen in many devices before and more. The colours really pop right out of the screen, Samsung screen drivers have improved as much as the screens themselves over time. Back when I owned the Samsung Galaxy S2, I rooted the phone and added custom firmware (Cyanogenmod 12.1) which obviously doesn't contain those drivers and the screen appeared dimmer, less colour etc. Touchwiz and all of its drivers really make the best use of the hardware in the device, and I would probably go as far as to say you wouldn't even need to root these phones unless you really wanted to, especially seeming as you wouldn't be able to use Samsung Pay anyway as it uses Samsung Knox which would be tripped to 0x1 if custom files are flashed such as CF-Autoroot. Overall Conclusion Although this device has some minor issues, like slight overheating when playing games excessively, this particular phone belongs to my other-half who complains of periodic lagging when switching between Restaurant Story 2 and virtual pet games like Shibo. But all gripes aside, this is a top-quality smartphone, with lots to offer the consumer and business user. Please drop comments below, if you have any questions about the phone or want me to show anything else.

So i want to buy a new smartphone amd im thorn between S7 edge and iphone 6s. I mostly text, watch movies and play games with my phone so the obvious answer is s7 edge i thought. But today i read that ios has more lifetime that android, this meaning that android stops receiving updates while ios keeps updating during more time. What do you think?
-
I need to buy a new phone but i cant decide between s7 edge or iphone 6s so I went to a local carrier and played around with both and honestly i dont like the s7 edge manily because its too big. It might sound stupid but i like to hold my phones with 1 hand only and the iphone 6s has a nice hold.I dont know if its still worth to buy the 6s and I dont know how IOS works because i have only used android so far so i asked a few people what they think. The ones that had iphones said that once I get used to IOS its better than android, other said that Iphones are restrict in music for example. I dont know what phone to buy but i would like to hear your opinion.

Hey guys, I have two questions regarding the S7 Edge today. 1. Will Linus be reviewing it? 2. Is it worth rooting? (Like will it break the phone etc etc) Cheers, RP
