Hi guys, just wanting advice on an upgrade path for longevity, as i have a few things im factoring into it, So right now I have Ryzen 7 1700 watercooled, Corsair 16GB 3200mhz in a x370 C6H and just picked up a Sapphire 7900 XTX Nitro+ Vapor (waiting for GPU block from Alphacool and new smaller res since mine is to big now) to replace the watercooled powercolor R9 390, and with using the 1700 with the 7900 XTX shows how slow the CPU is at 1080p. So my upgrade path in my mind is: 5950x or 5800X3D along with moving to a 1440p or 4k monitor then the other thing is im thinking about is should i wait for a ZEN 4 3D cache part or move to Intel for the first time in years But then i require a new waterblock, possibly a new PSU as i have a EVGA 850w, new rads maybe? I will more than likely buy new 4 pin fans as mine are 3pins on 2 lamptron fan controllers along with thinking about switching to hard tubing but not a big deal for me. I should also say that I game with music in the background (no problem for any new cpu really), play AAA games like RDR2 / GTAV, emulate old games, play squad, cities skyline and Europa Universalis 4 so i have no idea which is better more L3 cache or more cores for those specific games. Any advice / help would be appreciated, will give more details if needed (not much of a good explainer).

Hello dear Linus Tech People I'm on BIG dilemma on what to buy Here is for what i need: I'm small youtuber who render videos for games (Mobile games) and work on old dell 3537 i5 lap-top and my CPU is really weak for rendering or recording games because its i5 4200u. I'm almost on 20k subscribers so i need something serious for playing games, streaming and recording. I dont plan to strean or record 4K only 1080p or 720p becouse in our country its not that fast internet for 4k and also in our small country only rich boys have 4k so i'm more focus on normal people who only use 1080p monitors or less Now in my country Ryzen 7 1700 its 380 euro or more and i'm hype for this but for me its problem Base clock of 3.0ghz and i dont like that now ryzen 5 will launch on 11 aprill and the one thats in my target its Ryzen 5 1600x 6/12 threads with 3.6 base and 4.0 turbo. Now my question is: Whats the best choice for me as Gamer and Youtuber? do i wait for Ryzen 5 and save around 100 euro with good Base and Turbo speed or go with Ryzen 7 1700 with 3.0 base speed? Just to tell you I HAVE NEVER DONE OVERCLOCKING so overclocking its not what i'm looking for Also i need for 720p/1080p streaming/recording also Rendering videos with Sony Vegas 13 and Handbrake I'm looking best value for the money and also that can doo what i need

I just built a new Ryzen system with an RX 480. I had previously used this same graphics card in an older system I built last year with an a8-7600 apu. Games ran fine then, but now they keep crashing and I don't know why. The bios is updated, all the drivers are fresh and windows is also a fresh install. I don't know what else could be going on that is causing this issue.

Here are 2 builds I've made AMD Ryzen 7 1700 & Intel i7 7700k. Now I'm an avid gamer, I do not and will not stream/edit so which one should I go for 7700k or 1700 there's been some controversy between the two chips I'm just looking for guidance - this will be my first build. As the title says, I dialed my Ryzen 1700 to 3.9ghz with about 1.33v. AIDA64 stability test is putting it around 53-55C. It's a shame I can't get it to go to 4.0ghz even at 1.45v. With these temps I would have had plenty of cooling to spare with my h110i. I did have 3.9ghz with 1.325v originially but that stopped working for some reason, along with my 2800mhz RAM at stock voltage and latency. Had to bump the ram down to 2666 to get it to post which kind of makes me angry, it's supposed to be at 3000mhz. I'd return the ram and try a different set but it's so expensive and there's basically no guarantee anyway. Guess I'll just wait for more microcode updates until zen 2 comes out. Mobo is an ASRock killer x370 SLI/ac and the ram is Corsair Vengeance LPX (2x8) w/ CAS 15 if an of y'all were curious.

Hey guys, I'm having an odd issue. I can't seem to see my core temps with any software at all. I've got a Ryzen 1700 on an ASRock Killer x370 SLI/ac board. I've tried HWMonitor, Corsair Link (I have an h110i), AMD Ryzen Master (it wasn't clear to me if that software would even display individual core temps anyway) and HWiNFO64. None of them display core temperatures, only the package temperature. Is there some bios setting or some kind of driver I need to get? I only found one post where there was an actual suggestion (to try HWiNFO64) and another that dead ended. Other than that, it's mostly people talking about temperature offsets. I've flashed my bios to the latest version and have checked my drivers. Any help would be awesome. Really want to overclock this thing but I need my temperature readings working first.

So we are planing to buy a new system, for game development and 3d rendering. As indie game developers we are really on a tight budget. We have the following configuration in mind, and want suggestions: 1. Ryzen 5 1600x + B350 Motherboard + CPU cooler (1600x doesn't come with stock cooler) 2. Ryzen 5 1600x + X370 Motherboard + CPU cooler (1600x doesn't come with stock cooler) 3. Ryzen 7 1700 + B350 Motherboard + stock cooler (we are not planing to overclock now. So we can wait, to buy a better cooling system) 4. Ryzen 7 1700 + Budget X370 Motherboard + stock cooler (we are not planing to overclock now. So we can wait, to buy a better cooling system) Which one will give us best value for money. We are from India and PC components cost much more here (Example: a 1000 us Dollars build cost around 1500 Us Dollars unfair )

ryzen 7 1700 Best motherboard for a Ryzen 7 1700?
shiggy posted a topic in CPUs, Motherboards, and Memory
I want to know the best motherboard for a 1700 if I'm not going to be overclocking it. (Even then I'd need the 1700x.) Right now I have the B350 TOMAHAWK, but I want to know if there is one more suited to the 1700, since I'm sure the B350 TOMAHAWK is meant for overclocking, correct me if wrong. My old computer is an ancient Dell machine I bought in 2007. It is still running windows XP, with Ubuntu as my go-to OS. It is long past time for me to completely replace this ancient old machine. This is my first build. I am not aiming for the best of the best. I want to get solid performance for a reasonable price. Keeping options open for upgrading later is great but I expect to entirely replace this first build within a few years. I want to use this machine I am building to get my feet wet in the tech world. I am learning a whole lot and this machine is going to be a part of that. I want to be able to try out a wide range of things, so I want at least enough power to not be severely handicapped by the machine. I expect to know more about how I want to specialize by the next machine, a few years from now. For now, I just want a machine that will let me try out things like programming, content creation, rendering and other tasks I may get into in the course of my learning progress. I do enjoy gaming and am looking forward to having a machine that can run decent titles again, but I am not upset if I am missing out on a few frames. Part of the learning for me will be overclocking. I want to learn to overclock all the things with this build. I hope it will give me a some extra performance, but a big part of the reason I want to overclock is simply for the experience of learning how to do it. The style of the build is of very little consequence to me. I do not want RGB lighting and am not interested in any particular visual theme. I care about price to performance. I do care about noise levels, but I am not expecting miracles from my machine. However, I would spend a little extra for a little better noise levels. I don't mind paying a few extra bucks for quality products as well. I am not very familiar with brands and manufacturers, so I only know what I have picked up from doing research for this build. I don't want to pay extra to have some hip logo printed on a part, but I don't mind paying a bit more for higher quality parts. PC Parts Picker Link: https://pcpartpicker.com/list/gkgyGf CPU: AMD - Ryzen 7 1700 3.0GHz 8-Core Processor CPU Cooler: Noctua - NH-U12S 55.0 CFM CPU Cooler Motherboard: ASRock - AB350 Pro4 ATX AM4 Motherboard Memory: Corsair - Vengeance LPX 16GB (2 x 8GB) DDR4-3000 Memory Storage: Samsung - 850 EVO 250GB M.2-2280 Solid State Drive Storage: Western Digital - Caviar Blue 1TB 3.5" 7200RPM Internal Hard Drive Video Card: Gigabyte - Radeon RX 580 8GB Gaming 8G Video Card Case: Corsair - 200R ATX Mid Tower Case Power Supply: Corsair - CXM 550W 80+ Bronze Certified Semi-Modular ATX Power Supply Optical Drive: Asus - DRW-24B1ST/BLK/B/AS DVD/CD Writer Operating System: Microsoft - Windows 8.1 Pro OEM 64-bit I already have the Case, Power Supply, and Optical Drive. I intend to run in Linux primarily. I have considered not getting Windows at all. I do not want to put Windows 10 on this machine for sure. I am thinking of running a duel boot to Windows 8.1 just because some programs I may want to use are a pain to run in wine. I hope by the time Windows 8 stops working for me I will either not need Windows at all or Windows 10 will have been improved a whole lot. (Hopefully I don't derail my own thread with this.) I am thinking the Ryzen 7 1700 over the Intel chips because I don't mind being a few frames behind for games, and I want the extra threads/cores for other tasks I want to explore. For the Video Card I am looking at the RX 580 because I want to go Freesync for the monitor. I am not stuck on the brand of card, I just selected the cheapest one from what seemed like a quality manufacturer. I would appreciate any suggestions for what upgrades would make the most noticeable difference for this build. If there is anywhere I can cut cost without cutting performance I am interested in that. And I am interested in any observations that may help me reduce noise levels. Again, I want the build to be able to handle at least an intro to a wide range of tasks as I learn and explore tech related pursuits. I do expect to play games, but I don't mind not using ultimate settings all the time. I will probably play a lot of shooters, and MMOs. A game I have enjoyed in the past, and expect to get into again, is Eve Online. It would be sweet if I could PvP with multiple accounts open, which I have heard is a CPU intensive situation. Thanks in advance for any advice. -JD

Hello guys. First of all sorry if I created this topic in the wrong section of the forum. Recently I've built a new desktop PC, and both cpu and ram are running at stock frequencies. I've watched several videos on youtube on how to overclock both, but i'm still afraid of "breaking" something. I have: - Asus ROG Strix B350-F Motherboard - Ryzen 7 1700 (Stock cooler) - Corsair Vengeance LPX 3000 MHz 2x4GB - EVGA 500W Silver I updated my bios to the latest one, and it still isn't similar enough to the ones on those youtube videos. Is there anyone out there who has the same motherboard and can help me with overclocking? I dont want my cpu to run at 3.0GHz and RAM at 2133MHz. I went into bios and overclocked both cpu and ram. CPU to 4.2ghz with auto voltage and ram to 3066mhz with auto voltage and it booted. I've run cinebench and some cpu-z benchmark. It didnt crash. I still haven't downloaded any game. I lowered cpu to 4.0ghz, don't want to stress it specially with auto voltage. So it would really mean a lot to me if someone experienced, preferably with the same motherboard, could and would help me out on this one. Thank you all in advance. Best Regards, Alex

I'm thinking about getting an AMD Ryzen 7 1700 CPU, with an ASUS PRIME X370-PRO motherboard. Now i'm a bit confused with the whole ram thing. So I would like to get a duel 2 x 8gb kit, with a 3200 mhz speed. From the research i've done already it seems that ram that is advertised as 3200mhz is an overclock. And that in order to get 3200mhz working, you either have to choose a profile on the bios or manually enter values. Otherwise it would run at a lower speed than the full 3200mhz. Is this correct? I also heard you should find the motherboards QVL, (Qualified Vendor List) to get ram that has been tested for that motherboard, to reduce the chance of any issues. However the motherboard I linked, i can't seem to find any QVL on the product page. Where would I find this QVL list? I want to be sure before I buy ram because i've heard of people that have had isssues getting to 3200mhz on the Ryzen platform. And if theres anything else I should know please let me know. Thanks, GR412.

If i save up enough, I might be able to get a 1080 TI but if i need to go on a budget, i might get 1060 6GB or 1050 TI. Which CPU would be best for those? I will be doing alot of gaming & some editing here & there but I don't do streaming however.

Hi guys With some help from everyone here, at crucial points, I have finished my Ryzen build: Processor: AMD Ryzen 7 1700 (Planning to overclock to 3.7 GHz with Wraith Spire cooler) RAM: G Skill Flare X 3200MHz Graphics Card: ZOTAC GeForce GTX 1070 Motherboard: Gigabyte GA-AB350 Gaming 3. SSD: Samsung 850 EVO 500 GB Hard Drive: WD Black 4TB. Power Supply: CoolerMaster V650 80+ Gold Fully Modular Case: CoolerMaster MasterCase 5 (windowed) & using only 2 fans that are pre-included. Initially I hadn't planned to overclock my Ryzen 7 1700 but seeing everyone talk about the awesome stock cooler, I wanted to give it a shot: AMBIENT TEMPERATURE: 32 to 37 C in India (not kidding!) EVERYTHING AT STOCK: Ran Aida64 Stress Test for about 10 minutes. CPU Temperature at 69 C - - - correction: today was really hot day now the temperature is at 75 - - - - Speed in Task Manager: 3.15 GHz STABLE OVERCLOCK TO 3.5 GHz I couldn't achieve any sort of stable overclock at higher frequency than 3.5 GHz (temps were issue) Couldn't even increase the voltage as it led to increase in temps. VCore Voltage: Auto Speed: 3.5 GHz Temperature: 82 C Max, averaging at 81 C. Ran Aida64 Stress test for 40 minutes & no stability issues ----edit: already answered---- So now my question, Is it safe to run Ryzen 7 1700 at this 82 C temperature? Temps were observed using HW Monitor & Ryzen Master (both showed same readings). EDIT: Thanks to the community for answering my question, but now I have another query. Is it normal to see CPU Temp of about 75 C at stock (on full aida64 stress)? EDIT 2: On searching more, I think problem could even be on the Thermal Paste. So due to some variables, I will mark the best answer now, since my original query was resolved anyways. EDIT 3: Thanks to the people here, all my questions were awesomely answered. Thank you.

Hey guys I'm building my first Ryzen PC and haven't picked ram or a graphics card yet. https://ca.pcpartpicker.com/list/7KhHFd That's what I have and the ram in the list is what I'm debating on I'd like 2 16GB sticks if possible so later i can upgrade to 64GB. Idealy DDR4-3200. I dont want to get ram that wont work with my motherboard. Open to suggestions. Graphics card I'd like a 1070 but I think the 1060 would be more in my budget. Currently I have $600 left to work with I can save more butwould love to get this computer running.
