I had problems booting into operating systems that want more than 1024x768 resolution. I am dualbooting Windows 10 and Arch Linux Windows section: I could not boot into Windows normally, because it would crash on the change to a higher resolution. In the 2nd boot, it would boot into Windows RE to troubleshoot, and I selected "boot with Low Resolution Mode" and it works flawlessly. Linux section: My Arch Linux boot entries were deleted. So I wanted to use a Live disk to recreate them. I had a spare Arch Linux live disk laying around, so I booted into it, and crash. tried using some kernel commandlines edited in the live disk's GRUB2, still didn't work. I used these kernel commandlines: vga=1920x1080 video=1920x1080 gfxpayload=1920x1080 (not a kernel cmdline, a grub command) This is my systeminfo (in windows) >systeminfo Host Name: DESKTOP-BRI68P5 OS Name: Microsoft Windows 10 Pro OS Version: 10.0.19045 N/A Build 19045 OS Manufacturer: Microsoft Corporation OS Configuration: Standalone Workstation OS Build Type: Multiprocessor Free Registered Owner: root Registered Organization: Product ID: 00330-80000-00000-AA720 Original Install Date: 11/16/2023, 7:34:29 PM System Boot Time: 12/11/2023, 2:54:54 PM System Manufacturer: System manufacturer System Model: System Product Name System Type: x64-based PC Processor(s): 1 Processor(s) Installed. Hi guys i'm having a strange problem with my machine,my gpu refuses to use newest drivers. The latest driver that works perfect is from April 2019.Every time i try to update the driver, everything goes ok but when i reboot, the screen glitches out and it only shows strange artefacts but then the system does not boot. After three times of trying to boot up,it automatically goes in recovery mode and i must boot into safe mode to restore old driver and then i can return to use the pc. With a version of driver so old i cannot play the most recents games because they always requires latest versions.Obviously this is happening with Windows.I'm considering the full transition to Linux but as you know not all games (especially the ones with anti cheat) works there and configuring a kvm is not that easy,so for now i need to use Windows and try some way to resolve this problem. The only fix i really found is to install the newest driver in runtime but before shutting down the machine i necessarry unistall the drivers unless i want to enter again in that not funny loop of three crashes boot and then safe mode. Can anyone help me to solve this issue ? These are the specs : Motherboard : Asus prime a320m-k BIOS version : 5603 CPU : AMD ryzen 5 1600 GPU : Sapphire Pulse Radeon RX 550 4GB GDDR5 RAM : Crucial RAM CT8G4DFS824A 2x8GB DDR4 2400 MHz CL17 SSD : Kingston A400 120GB (Linux installed on) SSD : Adata 480GB (Windows 10 installed on) PSU : Coolermaster MWE WHITE 600W

Hi folks! I wanna ask something about resolution. As the title states, can I change the Samsung TV's resolution from 1366x768 to 1920x1080 by using RX550 4GB GPU? Does any one ever did this before? Because I plan to build a PC for my sister using the above specs. Note that I already have a PC which has GTX1070ti, when I plug it on my LG TV which support to 1366x768 max res, my Nvidia control panel actually able to upscale it to 1920x1080! can a RX550 also do that? Thank you for any one who will kindly answer the question. Best regards.

Hello All, So been looking for an RX 550 graphics card from the second hand market for a project of mine. I came across a relatively cheap and obscure version of the card, which I believe to be the following: 6J78X Dell AMD Radeon RX550 4GB GDDR5, most likely pulled from some Optiplex. Most graphics cards containing the RX 550 GPU have a PCIe x16 pin configuration that I'm familiar with; however, this card seems to have a large portion of pins missing yet plugs into a PCIe x16 slot. It looks more suited for a PCIe x8 slot. I'm confused as to what this means for performance compared to others cards. Unfortunately, since no practical person would buy this thing outside of an Optiplex, there aren't any sort of benchmarks I can find to compare. I'm assuming it just means that bandwidth would be limited, though I wanted to ask the experts and possibly learn something along the way. I'll attach an image below showcasing what I mean. Thanks all!

I just wanted to know whether the Rx 550 can support streaming, liek whether it has an encder for it like the nvenc on nvidia cards pls gimme an answer asap

Hello, I've recently bought a rx580 4gb to upgrade from my rx550 2gb, and I was wondering if I could run them in crossfire. If so, what advantages could this give me in gaming, or would it be better to out the rx550 in a old rig?

Hi people, A few years ago I built a rig with a Ryzen 5 2600 and a RX550 with 16Gb's of ram. Would a steamdeck be an upgrade to this system? I have no idea how powerful it is. It's just for the kids who play a bit of overwatch, roblocks, sims, etc. (I know about the workaround to get fortnite working on a steamdeck.)

so in my endless quest to find whats wrong with my PC, I have went ahead and grabbed an RX550 4gb to test with since my friend is out of town so I couldn't borrow his pc or GPU for testing. what I usually use for my own comparison and testing is heaven benchmark 4 and so I want to share here the score of the RX550 compared to other cards I have owned on the same setup . one thing that caught my attention lately is how many people on youtube are posting videos comparing the RX550 with the gtx 1050 which is within (10% range of the performance of GTX670). I happen to have owned a gtx670 so it should serve as an adequate gauge of how the rx550 compares to the gtx 1050. in the attachment you will see how the rx550 is about half the performance of the gtx670 and surprisingly online I have seen heaven benchmark scores of the 1050 in the 800s as well. so I have no idea where people came with the idea of the rx550 is similar in performance to the gtx 1050. it's more within the range of the gt750 or gt750ti, as you can see in the score the gt740 is not very far behind and how the 1070 is basically unmatched to the rest of the tested peasants. I must also add that the rx550 4gb (sapphire pulse) felt very low in latency compared to the 1070 and the 740, just from using the pc I realized how snappy and responsive my mouse and keyboard have became, that was probably one of the reason why it's promoted for lan parties, it also felt very light when I installed it so it would perfectly fit a portable case. here are the benchmark pics along with some pics of how the cards look like. the reason I kept the gt740 and returned the rx550 is cuz I saved 40$ and cuda cores could come handy in my video production that and the gt740 support 4 display outputs while rx550 only 3, still it's a pretty nice card but since I won't be gaming on neither felt pointless to keep it.

Guter Tag, Leute i am planning to build a small form factor movie streaming HTPC and was thinking to use the Pentium G4560. now here is my question: is the G4560 able to procces a 4k 60fps video while paired with a RX550? since this will most likely be the bottleneck i thought i'd ask with great regards, Acv159357n

So browsing the Newegg I saw an MSI rx550 aero and it said it was PCIe x16 uses x8. This peaked my interest as I have a PowerEdge 2900 with a PCIe x8 slot that could use a discrete graphics card. My original plan had been to cut the end of the slot and have the GC hang out the back. But a plastic shroud turned that from simple fix to a PIA. I didn't want to remove functionality from a card by physically removing those channels but if they aren't electrically connected in the first place, no harm. So the question is are all rx550s using x8? Are there better or cheaper cards that are electronically limited to x8 PCIe? I'm not looking to game on it. Just more Gui than it's designed for. Linux compatibility a plus.

Hi, I got hold of an old AMD FM2 rig running AMD-A4-4000 with 16GB 1866 DDR3 paired with a 120GB SSD and a 1TB HDD. I have a RX550 and a GTX970, Which one should I pair it with? I personally think the 970 will be overkill for the system. I would like to use the system for web browsing and some cs:go or fortnite once in a while. The monitor is a crappy 21" sansui so I am not really looking for 1080p ultra here 720p will work just fine. Would appreciate thoughts on the subject.

Hey guys, first off let me leave some specs:ASUS Prime A320M-KAMD Ryzen 3 1300xASUS RX550-2G (https://www.asus.com/Graphics-Cards/RX550-2G/ )Windows 10 Home version 10.0.17134 Build 17134BIOS version/date: American Megatrends 3803 1/22/2018SMBIOS version: 3.1BIOS mode: UEFII want to start out by saying that ever since I've had this card, I've never been able to update the drivers, once, without having the problem I'm having currently, which I will explain in a bit. Also my GPU shows up as "Microsoft Basic Display Adapter" in device manager and also in GPU-Z, however, GPU-Z displays the correct specs (such as clock speed and whatnot) under the incorrect name and when I click "Lookup" it brings me to the correct page for my GPU (https://www.techpowerup.com/gpu-specs/radeon-rx-550.c2947 ), although it's not my exact model, but you can find it down there in the page.List of things I've tried:updating the drivers with device manager, using the ones windows automatically findsupdating the drivers with Radeon-Software-Adrenalin-2020-20.1.3-MinimalSetup-200128_64bitupdating the drivers with Radeon-Software-Adrenalin-2020-20.1.4-MinimalSetup-200127_webupdating the drivers with Asus 18.10.16 WHQLupdating the drivers with the AMD Driver Auto-Detect Toolupdating the drivers with the drivers amd recommended to me when I selected my GPU on their websiteEvery option on the Windows 10 Recovery screen (restoration point - roll back - the rest), the one thing that makes my PC usable again is booting into safe mode, and I've tried rebooting out of safe mode with the faulty drivers installed but they still don't work.Running AMD Driver Cleaning Utility before installing any of the aforementioned driversInstalling drivers after running Display Driver UninstallerI remember that my card came with a CD which I think contained the GPU Tweak II program and maybe some drivers, but sadly I don't have the CD anymore. Also, when I open up Photoshop CS6, it detects that there is something weird going on with my GPU. League runs at 2 FPS at max settings when it used to run at 120+ and some games like Dead by Daylight won't boot up because a message pops up telling me that DX11 is required to run it. My point is that other programs are aware of the driver change and it's not like I can just keep using my PC as if nothing happened. It seems that no matter which version of the drivers I install, I always have the same problems:During the driver installation process, the screen blacks out and never comes back, when I reboot my PC, after the ASUS logo screen where you can enter the bios, the screen displays a pixel glitch which covers up the entire screen.I guess if I could just go back to the drivers the GPU comes loaded with, that would solve the problem, since I've been using those since July 2018 with no problems and great performance.Oh also: After installing any drivers, when I reboot into safe mode my GPU shows as either Radeon 550 Series or Radeon RX550 depending which driver I install, even though the GPU name's is correct, League, for example, still runs extremely slow (20 FPS with the lowest settings). Also, my GPU never shows up on task manager even though it used to before all of this happened and it still shows us as Microsoft Basic Display Adapter when I run dxdiag.exe. And as I've previously said, if I were to reboot out of safe mode into "normal mode" I would still get the screen glitch, the only way to go into normal mode without any glitches is to roll back to drivers with device manager to "Microsoft Basic Display Adapter", however, that renders my GPU useless since it won't process anything.

Hey guys, I'm planning on grabbing a secondary graphics card for my system, because I plan on fully virtualising my windows install, and letting it have my 1080ti. Which means I'd have to leave a graphics card for my ubuntu system. Since most of my gaming will be done on windows still, I wanna get a low-end card with no additional 6 or 8pin (didn't pick a power supply expecting to ever run dual GPUs). Some of the graphically "demanding" things I might do on Ubuntu would be things like watching youtube videos (potentially 4k), playing some 2D titles (Undermine, Binding of Isaac: AB+, etc), and possibly some very light 3D titles (minecraft, maybe even csgo). Would a 550 or a 560 be enough for those things, considering my primary display is 4k? I could live without the 3D titles or even the 2D games, but I'm worried my system would become a chore to use for the things like internet browsing and video watching ('cause screw booting up a VM to watch a video). Are my worries founded or would the cards perform perfectly in those tasks?

I just bought an rx 550 2gb on sale for $55 to replace my gtx 750 1gb that I've had for a while. When I got it and downloaded drivers etc. I noticed I get about 15 fewer average fps on fortnite. This was kind of concerning to me and i want to know maybe some contributors or things i can do to get more performance? thanks

Question says it all. Should I buy a Gigabyte GT 1030 OC edition or Gigabyte RX 550 standard card? Both have 2GB VRAM. Also, I have an i3-6100 CPU. Will it be a bottleneck for the RX 550? Will the GT 1030 be a bottleneck for the i3? I'm just super eager to get off of integrated graphics. HD 530 actually sucks. Top card is RX 550. Bottom is GT 1030. Sorry for the big pictures. Thanks in advance, Pr0N00b
