Backstory: Few months back my PC was not booting I checked and found that a RAM stick was causing it so I cleaned it and it worked. This thing happened again few weeks back when I was playing game and blue screen of death came. I did the same as before but this this time it worked only once later ram got wasted. So for few days I was gaming on just 1 X 4gb ram it was working fine but later games would freeze for brief moment ( Deus ex, Dying Light). I thought This was because of low RAM as it was working fine on low spec games. So I added another 8gb RAM (Total 12gb) and it was working fine (Deus ex was was glitching though) Problem: Later that same day when I turned on my PC it was giving no display turns out GPU was not detected (though LED and Fans were working) and my IGPU was giving display through VGA I removed CMOS, reinstall drivers (did not worked) Cleaned my GPU (using rubber/eraser) and PCI slot and put it back and this time both GPUs were not giving display I thought my GPU was dead but today I gave it another try Turned on PC same as before no display turned it off and turned it on again it started giving display Question: I just want to know what could be the problem ? Is it going to kill my GPU in near future ? as I lost the RAM before What should I do to prevent this ? Hello friends I’m new here and I have a REALLY confusing hardware problem, so this is a gonna a bit long. tl;dr, I think my RX 470 is locked to Ryzen systems and will not work with Intel systems. Context: From the Philippines. I bought my girlfriend an RX 470 that she could use in her new build until GPU prices calm down. I found the card secondhand from a seller with many positive reviews, and he proved to me (with timestamps even) that the card was in good working order and could play games, could do anything really. All this to say that the seller seemed solid. My old setup: I received the card, it was old, had faded gold pins, but otherwise looked normal. I plugged it into my OLD system with an i5-4460, Asus B-85 Pro Gamer, 8 gb RAM, Windows 10, to test the card. The system would turn on, GPU lights on, fans spinning, but no display. Reseated the RAM and the card, still no display. It would show up as no signal on my monitor. I plugged the HDMI cable into my motherboard with the 470 still attached, and found that the GPU was not detected at all even when running off of my integrated graphics. AMD’s driver software that detects your GPU for driver updates wasn’t even finding it. My current setup: My current personal system has a Ryzen 7 5800X, Asus X570-F, 32 gb RAM, Windows 10, and a GTX 1080 FE. I swapped out the 1080 for the 470 to see if it would work, and it did! The card worked perfectly fine in my current system. I could play games and do anything. I thought it wasn’t working on my old setup because maybe the mobo was dying, so I decided to let it go and hope for the best until my girlfriend’s setup arrived. GF’s setup: A couple weeks later, my gf’s parts finally came together and we set up an i5-10400F, MSI B560M Pro-VDH Wifi, 16 gb RAM, Windows 10. Plugged the 470 into her setup and boom, no display, exact same problem as with my old setup. It would light up, fans would spin, but no display. I tried placing my GTX 1080 into her system and THAT worked. I went to Reddit to ask around and somebody suggested the possibility that the card may somehow be locked to Ryzen systems being that it failed to work in two Intel systems. I asked the seller what his system was, the one he had the 470 running in, and sure enough, he had a Ryzen 5 1600, B350M. This just furthered one Redditor’s theory that somehow it isn’t compatible with Intel systems. My original theory was that my X570-F could detect the card because being that it’s a higher-end mobo, it was more sensitive to even faded contacts? Although that makes no sense with the original seller’s mobo being an older, cheaper B350M. Currently: As of now, I have given my girlfriend my GTX 1080 to use for now until I can figure out what to do with her RX 470. The 470 works in my system so it’s currently plugged into my R7 5800X, X570 system. The temps are fine, even better than my 1080 FE’s temps. What I have tried: I’ve tried a lot of things to try and solve this so I can’t remember all, but here’s what I can recall right now: - Reseating RAM - Reseating GPU - Using HDMI, Display port, VGA, none worked - Updating drivers (could not because AMD software could not detect the RX 470) - DDU-ing NVIDIA drivers - Updating BIOS - Resetting BIOS to default - Removing CMOS battery and replacing it after 2-3 minutes, did it again for 5 minutes. - Cleaning the contacts with an eraser twice, with and without alcohol - Checking if integrated graphics were enabled (it wasn’t) - Checking if Resizable Bar Support was enabled (it wasn’t) - Enabling “Normal Setup” on msconfig instead of Selective Startup - Booting from Integrated Graphics on my old Intel system, entered device manager to check if the RX 470 was detected, but it wasn't I have considered having someone re-apply the gold pins, but I did my best to budget for this and I would rather find another way that doesn’t involve paying hahaha Thank you so much for any help you can provide! So my friend was trying to launch cod and the game froze so he restarted the pc. When the pc booted up again it was at a wonky resulation and the radeon software wasnt working and weve tried reinstalling it with no success. we have tried switching bios, DDU and uninstalling the drivers through device manager. Anyone have any idea im a pretty techy person but wasnt able to crack this nut and i want to get this resolved asap as he isnt thrilled by the whole expierence. Hello All, I'm running into a common trend with a lot of older boards when trying to utilize a newer GPU, in this case the RX 470. I'm currently experimenting to see if semi-modern GPUs can be used on older cheaper boards that I have laying around to do some cryptocurrency mining. I'm experimenting with 3 boards in total; however, each board has its own unique set of symptoms with the card. The basic requirement of all the boards was to have 3 PCIe slots. Here is how I will organize the post for each motherboard: The board in use and its configuration The problems associated with the board My thoughts on the matter and my approach To preface I have tried all of the following troubleshooting measures on all boards: Reseated all components and connectors (CPU, RAM, GPUs, PSU Connections) Reset the BIOS utilizing the CMOS jumper Updated the BIOS Utilized 1 GPU Alone Utilized a second PSU to power the external cards 2 and 3 Externally tested the GPUs on a more modern motherboard to make sure they were all working, all cards passed Externally tested other components to make sure they're all working Configuration 1: Components: MB: DG45ID, Chipset: G45 Express Processor: Celeron 450 RAM: 8 GB DDR2 800 MHz PSU: 500 W GPU 1: XFX RX 470 4 GB GPU 2: Gigabyte RX 470 4 GB GPU 3: Gigabyte RX 470 4 GB Problems: The motherboard makes no POST beep and puts out no display no matter which GPU I utilize in the x16 slot. It powers on for a couple seconds, turns off, and then turns back on permanently. I've also removed the PCIe x1 to x16 riser connections to no benefit. The motherboard is able to POST as when I remove the RAM, I get 3 beeps as expected. It recently had a unexpected BIOS corruption and I had to take it for repair. Following this it worked for about a day and then ran into the issue outlined above. Additionally, this board was working fine with other configurations, including a Gigabyte RX 470 before. My Thoughts: My theories have considered that somehow the BIOS doesn't recognize the card in the slot; however, this doesn't make much sense to me as online PCIe is lauded as being backwards compatible and that as long as the slot was a x16 any card should work in any motherboard with any PCIe slot generation. Also the cards worked previously. Additionally, I learned more about how PCIe lanes were managed in the old days only by the chipset present on the motherboard. Perhaps the board is running out of PCIe lanes. I could fix this by changing their config; however, I can't access the BIOS to run the x16 slot as x8 instead since there is no output. I know the chipset supports 16 PCIe lanes, so the card with no other add ins should work; however it doesn't Configuration 2: Components: MB: DQ45CB, Chipset: 82Q45 Processor: Celeron 450 RAM: 4 GB DDR2 800 MHz PSU: 500 W GPU 1: XFX RX 470 4 GB GPU 2: Gigabyte RX 470 4 GB GPU 3: Gigabyte RX 470 4 GB Problems: The motherboard makes no POST beep and puts out no display no matter which GPU I utilize in the x16 slot. It powers on for a couple seconds, turns off, and then a blinking red LED on the board flashes twice until I turn off the power. I've also removed the PCIe x1 to x16 riser connections to no benefit. The motherboard is able to POST as when I remove the RAM, I get 3 beeps as expected. I have no knowledge if the board was working before. My Thoughts: Again my thoughts run to BIOS compatibility and possibly PCIe lane use. Though I'm still confused as to why a single card doesn't put out a signal at all. Configuration 3: Components: MB: M71E Lenovo 03T6014, Chipset: H61 Express Processor: Pentium Core G840 RAM: 4 GB DDR3 1333 MHz PSU: 500 W GPU 1: XFX RX 470 4 GB GPU 2: Gigabyte RX 470 4 GB GPU 3: Gigabyte RX 470 4 GB Problems: The motherboard makes no POST beep and puts out no display unless I utilize the XFX RX 470 4 GB card in the x16 slot alone. The motherboard POSTs and boots into linux fine utilizing that card alone. Utilizing any of the Gigabyte cards results in no POST and no display whether in the x16 slot or connected via x1 to x16 riser. Additionally, plugging the cards into the PCIe risers causes while running the XFX card yields the no post and no display from the card. My Thoughts: I think that the problem may lie with the PCIe lanes in this instance and possibly with motherboard compatibility. I've seen some horror stories about these proprietary motherboards and utilizing non standard add in parts. I just wanted to try this one so it didn't end up in the trash so fast. That being said, the pentium processor has no dedicated PCIe lanes from what I can tell and the H61 express chipset only has a grand total of 6. So perhaps that's causing an issue. All that being said, feel free to focus on one or all of the issues. With all of the issues being so similar, I figured I'd just make one big post and see if the solutions provided for one would help solve the others problems. Any thought or unusual suggestion may help. There are probably some things I don't understand about older hardware going on so hopefully someone can lead me in the right direction. Honestly after days of trying to figure this out, I'm at a total loss. Thank you community!

Hello, I'm new to this forum, so if I have made mistake with posting this thread please redirect me. I'd like to apologize for bad english. Recently i bought used rx 470 graphic card which seems to be used for mining. I managed to get bios update because when I install graphic driver there is yellow triangle in display adapter driver, and AMD adrenaline software couldn't pick up graphic card. After flashing new bios from this site Adrenaline could pick up graphic card and there was no yellow triangle. So naturally i wanted to play games (CSGO, Lol) but strange things started to happens, for instance in Lol after playing for a while screen just go flicking black screen for about 10s and then it go back to normal *this would happen randomly and more times*, and for CSGO even on all setting on Low and disabled all features, it would just send me to desktop while i can still hear sound from background like reloading, shouting, moving, etc. I am no able to get back in game with either alt+tab or clicking with mouse on minimized icon in taskbar. Thank you for your time reading this, and hopefully not dying inside or digging your eyes duo to bad english. EDIT: While playing csgo right when 'error' occurs i got message from radeon 'Default Radeon WattMan settings has been restored due to unexpected system failure'. So i want to start with other games,when i open rdr2 and devil may cry5 they stutter alot on starting for 1 minute or two max but after that they dont lag no matter how long after that you play! but in gta v it starts smooth sometimes a little laggy for just 10 or so seconds and after few minutes it just starts stuttering like alot of stuttering its unplayable these are my specs:xeon e3 1225 v2,rx 470 4gb sapphire,120 gb ssd,500 gb hdd 130 gb free,h61 mobo,475 psu,8 gb ram so what should i do?and one more thing it started from the first day i started playing it and idk why it didnt happend in past 2 days and today it happend again plz help me.

My RX 470 (i have 2 of them) gaming g1 from gigabyte are not being detected by the upper PCIE slot in the motherboard. Tried: Resetting CMOS Reseating GPU Physically Inspected GPU Physically inspected and cleaned GPU and MB slot vBios updates weird thing is that the pc i tested it on lets call it PC 1 is my main Pc which has a 2080 and that 2080 works perfectly in the upper slot, and i had put different gpus in there and they work perfectly too but the rx 470s dont work up there. I also tried it in my gfs PC which has a 1070 and the RX 470 doesnt work on the upper slot either so i narrowed down that the problem is in the RX 470. WELL GUESS WHAT THEY WORK ON THE LOWER PCIE (x4 slot) ON BOTH PCs. I have updated the bios, run bench marks while it was on the lower PCIE slot and it doesnt overheat or show any signs of anything wrong with it. I dont think is a bios corruption, only thing i can think of is that it was used for mining but wouldnt the vbios update delete any mining update stuff they did on it? NOTES: On PC1 Upper PCIE is a 4.0 x16, Lower is 3.0 x4 SPECS: PC 1 I5 12400f 2080 Msi pro b660m-a ddr4 750 PSU gfs PC i5 11400 Z490 gigabyte gaming x 500 or 550 PSU 1070 Recently tried it in a 3rd rig that only had a: i3 10100f 550 PSU b560 acer motherboard that only has 1 pcie slot x16 and it didnt work on that x16 any ideas on what it can be? so i repasted my xfx rx 470 yesterday after putting it up for sale for a while i decided to put it back into my system. the new pasting made it cooler but it still is loud as it was before. i feel like the fans are giving out. because this gpu was quiet and cool before i cleaned it a few years ago. after i cleaned it in around 2020 it got loud and hot but after recleaning yesterday now its only loud. have i damaged the fans the first time around ? should i get the fans replaced? should i be using new thermal pads as the old ones are kinda ripped apart and i just took bits and pieces and put them on the supposed things they go on. here's some clips so you can hear the audio and sorry for the messy text. i wanted to tell everything in as little as possible. also ignore the beeping sound its someones car being robbed outside i think. 1) idle 2) in game 3) yesterday right after pasting it sounded so weird and that was at 1000rpm only. I've been planing on building a new system with the R7 1700. But as i bought a Sapphire RX 470 Nitro 8Gb not long ago for my current PC i wanted to step-up my performance even more. So would two RX 470's in crossfire make a bigger difference in performance relative to its price, compared to a single flagship GPU?

I know EK makes whole card water blocks for the RX 480 and so does Aqua Computer. I have been doing some research for MY card in particular, the ASUS ROG RX 470 STRIX O.C. 4gb card. What it looks like to me is that the EX would work on my card but the acrylic would have to be cut and shaped to fit closest to the video connections whereas the Aqua Computer version should drop right on my card as it does not extend all the way to the video connections. Has anyone out there dropped a whole card solution onto the STRIX RX 470? I know they use the same board as far as the reference cards but I think they will drop onto the STRIX.

OK, so I have a pretty serious question. I would like to upgrade my PC this summer, maybe next summer, (even though I built it in December 2016), but I simply cannot decide between getting a Ryzen 7 1700, or another Radeon RX 470. Price wise, the RX 470 is MUCH cheaper than a brand new motherboard and processor. Performance: My current system, with its Intel Core i5 6400, 12 GB DDR4, and single RX 470, gives me a fantastic gaming experience as it is. It's still so new, why upgrade? The thing is, I love making videos, and doing live streams. As it stands now, it can game at 900p 60fps in just about everything, and stream at 720p 30fps without having to change very many in-game options to ease the load and make a smoother stream. I want to give my viewers a better visual experience with both my streams and my videos, so I'm getting a 1440p 60hz panel before I upgrade anything else, because trying to produce 1080p videos on a 900p panel without it looking fuzzy is really difficult. By the way, if I didn't want to be making videos, I'd be perfectly content with my setup for a few years. All that, and I want to get into CPU overclocking. So the question is should I increase graphical fidelity by using a second GPU combined with a better monitor, OR increase stream fidelity and decrease render times by using the Ryzen chip combined with the better monitor? Hello, everyone. I'm new to the LTT forums and new to the PC world. And i need to ask for advice because my PC turned on, but there are no display.... the story is as follows... I asked a friend of my father's to help me build a PC, with an Haswell i5 and a reference RX 470. However, when it came and i tried playing a game (in my case, NFS Underground 2), after 30 minutes the computer would all shut down... I've thought that the problem is that the GPU is overheated, so i tried adjusting the fan speed in MSI Afterburner, ramping up the case fans with SpeedFan. However... the same results are still present.. It wasn't until today that i've looked into it and saw that the hard plastic that's covering the fans are still there, making the fans unable to spin. I removed the card, took out the plastic, and then when i tried to reinstall it, i saw a small spark when the backplate hits the motherboard I/O (i've unplugged the power supply but forgot to remove the printer USB connection that's still plugged in) When i started it after that, the fans ramp up to 100%, but there are no display... i've force shut down it, i've checked, it's connected, and not only the display is still not present, but the GPU fan has also stopped working... Now.. what did i do wrong, and what should i do..? Is the video card shorted out and is permanently broken...? Can i still use the PC...? Is it a rookie mistake to not unplug everything from the motherboard...? And what is the worst case scenario...? UPDATE : My PC is now fixed. The GPU fans are spinning and the problem is that the card wasn't exactly "in" the PCI-E. Thanks for all of the help, everyone ??

So I was just wondering how far everyone was able to push their RX 470. I feel like I got ripped in the silicon lottery, but I just started overclocking a couple of weeks ago. Please list your power limit, voltage, core, and memory. My highest achieved OC so far was 1385/1750MHz, 50%+ power limit, and 1.116V.

Hello, New User Here I need some assistance choosing what kind of GPU I should place within the Node 202 build I have specifically for 1080p gaming at 60 fps, either that would be the only real blower style gpu option available, the Sapphire RX 470, or an AIB partner card with custom cooler. The reason why I'm considering the partner cards is due to the notable lack of cooling technology (no copper pipes or such) present within the Sapphire RX 470, leading to the possibility of it running hotter than 80 degrees/impacting performance. I have two ideas: A: Buy the Sapphire blower card and slap an airflow fan in front of it, to get cooler air through the card to counter the lack of cooling tech inside B: Buy a partner card and then put static pressure fans to get the air out of the case as much as possible generated from the partner card Priorities: 1. GPU cooling (only so that it doesn't throttle) 2. Noise of fans The case is horizontal-oriented, (although JayzTwoCentz has shown that little impact on temps occurs) and if the solution lies in A or B, putting that down as a response with some reasoning (such as past experience or something like that) would help with my decision.

I have a rx 470 nitro from sapphire. It is not the plus version and has no backplate but I would like one. It is very difficult to research this GPU because it comes up with nitro+ models that can sometimes just be called the nitro model for short, which is very confusing. I would like to buy a custom backplate but if I cannot find one I can get some acrylic and spray paint I guess.
