Hey all, I bought a laptop (Acer 5) equipped with an I7-10500U (4C 8T @ 1.8Ghz baseclock), 12 GB ram and an MX350 2Gb. Thing is : I mostly play Runescape on this laptop (the only game light enough to played there). Somehow, when it not plugged in, it get better FPS then when it is plugged in. I can clearly see on the MSI afterburner thet the GPU clock hits pretty close to 1500Mhz while on battery and barely 1000Mhz when plugged... Something is wrong... I don't know what. Plz help. Thank you. A stranded fish.

For the second time now I've encountered something weird I'm not sure if considered a crash or what. While playing RuneScape my OC'd 3GB MSI GTX 1060 Gaming X sometimes gets stuck at ~600MHz (will note exact # next time). Although how my PC is performing during this occurrence it feels significantly worse. Clicks, mouseovers & well any navigation in-game or my desktop is almost at a complete stop, taking just about a minute to even exit out of Afterburner only to result in it being unresponsive. Restarting my PC solves the issue but nothing long the lines of a BSOD or black screen happens. At these times I had +140 & +138 Core but have since reduced to +130. It's yet to happen again although so far appears to be once daily & my Memory OC has been at +700 the whole time. Is this a problem with my Driver, Afterburner or just too high an Overclock? Other Notes & System Specs: *Although I tested my OC's in Heaven & Valley with +140 Core & +700 Memory, which all passed settling at 2050MHz. Periodically when changing screen size or just moving around in RuneScape results in a temporary 2063Mhz clock. Even though according to my Curve in Afterburner, it shouldn't hit 2063 until 1100mV which it never goes to, only 1093mV where 2050MHz also aligns. After weeks of testing I came to the conclusion that +140 on the core & +700 on my 3GB GTX 1060 Gaming X with voltage & power limit set to max was the best stable choice. At these settings it stayed locked at 2050Mhz on the core & 4705Mhz Memory for 5+ hours in Unigine Heaven & Valley. Whenever I tried to add more than +140 the 2063 & higher clocks were never steadily maintained for an extended period, even with fans keeping the card under 62C. Either I'd hit power limit of 1 & the card would significantly throttle down to 1800s or it'd just gradually drop the 2050 I came to accept. Now however after finally testing this OC in my main game RuneScape, I'm seeing core clocks regularly hit 2075Mhz while running around. 1: Should I be concerned about running it at this higher than tested clock speed? 2: Should I simply just play the game at this OC for a week or month & if it's okay then don't worry about it?

I wasn't too sure where this belongs because it has things relating to Overclocking, Gaming & Troubleshooting so here goes for now. In the MMO RuneScape I play, I'm experiencing slightly larger FPS drops than I think I should be happening due to my 3GB MSI GTX 1060 Gaming X underclocking itself. Now the explanation I got on their forums was that my OC is unstable & that GPU boost auto ramps the card up or down depending on temperatures & if mine were kept in check then it'd be just fine between 1.8 & 1.9GHz, implying anything above that is always unstable as a rule. All of this I already know & is NOT occurring at the time, temps are in the 40's, usage in 30's, power percentage 20's & power limit never hitting 1. So please correct me if I'm wrong or agree if I'm right in the following questions/statements. 1: If my OC was unstable in that game during that time at that place, I'd experience a crash, freeze or hit power limit at the same time as that downclock, right? 2: Because that's not happening, is it safe to assume that it's an issue with the games Client possibly going into a more conservative mode from being overwealmed by all the characters & thus making the GPU think it doesn't need to work as hard? 3: Is it possible that because the game's coders are just bad that they didn't make it so that the game client can handle more than a 1.9GHz GPU Core Clock, thus making the reply I got there true?

Not too much time on the site, nor with building TONS of computers, so I figured I would ask the community for help again. My mother has a crappy Staples laptop that just died on her. She plays some games (some of which are taken a little too seriously) and needs a new computer. This is her third laptop in 6 years, so I told her I would help her build one that would LAST that we can actually FIX. Basically, she wants to go as cheap as possible, but I want to throw in a few things to help out with futureproofness. She plays a TON of Runescape on the new client, which basically requires a dedicated GPU (though it's "recommended" is a GTX 400 series Lololol) She also spends a fair bit of time on games like Terraria, Minecraft and other casual games. I want to get her into basic PC gaming with older titles she loves like Elder Scrolls and maybe some emulators, and make sure that we have things like an SSD for overall sanity. Size is a plus, so something that isn't in a massive case would be a bonus, but is by no means required. TL;DR: We're building a cheap-as-you-can-be gaming rig for things that are either easily handled by a flagship Skylake alone or are several years old, but also want to have a little longevity in the build so we don't do this again in 5 years.

Now that I've gotten used to my Logitech G600 & saved some money I'm in need of a bigger mouse pad. Nothing insanely huge, just around the size of the Logitech G240 would be fine (11 x 14in). As a matter of fact I'd simply buy that specifically which would make this thread pointless if it weren't for one important detail. It's marketed as moderate surface friction, which to me is completely alien since I've never used anything other than small round free generic ones. I use 1200 DPI for gaming & 200 for when I'm cropping images or even changing the color of individual pixels. Other than that though I have no idea what type of resistance I need for what I do or what I'm accustomed to. Alternatively the MM300 by Corsair is very appealing because of it's anti-fray edges. Although I've heard that SteelSeries makes some of the best bang for the buck mouse mats so you can see why I decided to ask here after all. I've also gotta consider compatibility, naturally the G240 should perform the best with my mouse because it's "tuned" for it as Logitech claims. I'm well aware though that I can't trust marketing claims so I've gotta ask y'all, what do you recommend for me?

So long story short I am trying to run a specific game on Ubuntu in a virtual box, this game being runescape... why I am doing this you ask? Well there new client has occasional issues including the one of an update a few months ago breaking it for some people to the point whare the break becomes ingrained in the OS with no fix besides an OS reinstall. I don't want to do that so I'm running Ubuntu in a VB so I can play this on the new client on my main pc. The guest additions thing let's you use your host gpu in the VB and I follow the instructions and it wasent working so I double checked and 3d acceleration was off so I enabled that in virtual box and now I get to the Ubuntu login screen, enter password and that's it... won't go any further unless I disable 3d acceleration which then I can't run the game. Help please what did I do wrong? -
Basicly i managed to install runescape on my laptop, but it always crashes and usiually before it even loads properly. My laptop is a Asus eee 1080PC and i think the problem is the 2GB of un upgradable RAM in it, but the 2 core(4 threads) atom in it is probably another limiting factor for more reasons then the fact that it can only handle 2GB of DDR RAM.I have a total of 2.8GB of RAM if you count the viritual RAM too. So if anyone can help me here, only reson i want to play runescape is because i jokingly said i would and a coupple of people just took my serius and now they are waiting for me to connect and play with them thanks for any replies and any help

looking for people to game with casually on steam. I prefer people around my age group (16) with some what capable hardware for certain games although I wont discriminate if you are a little younger or older or if your PC is a little outdated. So I was Semi-Afking Nightmare zone and was wondering about joining a group to hangout with and chat. I went to look around and quickly found that most groups were swappers, scammers, flippers, or try hards that take this game too seriously. I looked around on this forum and really found no groups that were based around just hanging out. At first I was reluctant but I'm making a LTT clan chat to hangout, chat, and maybe do some activities with each other. RuneScape 2007 and Clash of Clans streamer Koopatroopa787 (Joshua Peters) was streaming some questing when he was told there was a knock on the door. His ten year old brother had opened the door to ten SWAT team members with assault rifles. I like that the SWAT team members understood as soon as this was said. It's good when people in this position have this sort of context. This is really pathetic. Doxxing is bad enough, but SWATting is downright dangerous. I'm very glad that nobody was hurt (phyiscally) in this and I am really glad that even with the legitimate sounding call, the SWAT team handled it without violence. I imagine that SWATting isn't a normal occurance for them. I hope that whoever is responsible for this gets an appropriate sentence. Back in like May of 2013 I saw that Jagex announced they were making runescape tablet and phone compatible. They said it would be released sometime during the Q4 of 2013. I have yet to hear anymore about that though. Has anyone heard anything more about this? I use to play runescape all the time growing up (the original runescape, the new one sucks). I would love to be able to play it again on my tablet or smartphone.
