I live in house from the 1960's in Sweden and we only have old coax into the house. Our ISP (Tele2) gave us this old Sagemcom C2 router that really is a nightmare: every settings is for some reason locked down so you can't change any of the settings, it's running an old outdated software version and you can't update it, it runs really hot for some reason, we pay for 300 Mbit/s but only get ≈100 Mbit/s etc. Our ISP tells us it is supposed to be this way with this router and that everything is fine. Is anyone aware of a modern router that has a coax input? The outlet. The cable. The router.

Hi, I am kinda beginner in this kind of stuff, but my dad owns a 4-story house, where the internet is having some problems. In the building there are 3 routers daisy chained to the one on the first floor, meaning the one on the first floor is connected to the wire from ips and the other routers are all connected to the first one, total 4 routers. The first router (which is connected to the ips wire) is provided by my IPS (EURO DOCSIS® 3.1 WIFI EMTA), but the other 3 routers are tp-link AX1800 Wi-Fi 6 routers. The download speed from my IPS is 1Gb/s and upload is 60Mb/s. I tried to test the internet by trying to watch videos on YT, which worked fine. But if I tried for example longer movies or trying to measure the internet speed by loading speedtest.net, it would not load. If I tried to load speedtest.net, it would pop me the "webpage is not avaiable". Each router is working on a different channel frequency and the problem is happening on every router, which i would pinpoint it to the first router or just IPS. In CMD i tried pinging www.google.com, which worked fine. But if tried "tracert www.google.com", the second and third row would be timed out. Is it because the first router does not have enough cache or RAM to process all that data from all those routers?

Hello I’m looking for some recommendations on what router to get for my house. I’m currently using an AirPort Extreme as it works well with my Apple household (yes yes I know people views and Mac’s). These also work well with attatched multiple hard drives. These drives for videos, back ups, and for Time Machine for multiple computers. I also have it bridged with a second AirPort Extreme used as an extender in the basement so I can plug in some comouters and game consoles, as their Wi-Fi isn’t as fast (ps4 remote plays also) edit- right now the other AirPort Extreme is being used as a repeater downstairs as plugging times into if giving speed around 450-550 mbs. Vs 200. With a ps4 (wifi full reception) there wasn’t enough to remote play, however plugged into with the cat6 it has no issues. My ISP provides 1gb fiber (less speed would actually cost me more). I know these airport extremes are outdated and can’t even handle that speed. As they were discontinued six years ago. So, I’m looking for a replacement, router or routers, that I can still attach drives to, and can still use with time machine. A NAS is a little out of the budget right now. With how the wiring in my house is done, it would be plugged in on the top of three floors, but it would be nice to also be able to plug, consoles and computer in in the office in the basement, but I can’t run a wire back down from the top floor. Thank you in advance. and I am sorry I couldn’t really find any recommendations in many many many threads. It was a lot to go through.

I travel and am in hotels a couple of nights a week. I am looking to do some gaming but have found that wifi in hotels is awful and am hoping I can hardwire using a travel router and either my own ethernet should the room have an ethernet port or the ethernet from the back of the tv. I purchased a gl-mt3000 as from what I can tell people seem to think this is a good basic travel router but was wondering if anyone in this community had an advice they could give me in terms of setup or anything at all in using hotel wifi for gaming. As of now I have 2002 m2 MacBook Air that I use to either steam link or parsec into my home computer which is hardwired at my house. As I say using wifi to even my hotspot from the phone can be very laggy on local games and impossible on online games (hunt, fortnite, etc). I appreciate any help you guys could give.

Hi everyone, I'm currently building a system intended to be used as a router and am in search of a motherboard and CPU combination. The key requirement is support for dual 8x PCIe slots, with at least 2.0 speeds. I'm aiming for the most budget-friendly option available, ideally from the used market here in the UK (so eBay, FB marketplace etc). In terms of specifications, I'm prioritising power efficiency over performance (even a Pentium etc would suffice), as it will primarily run OpenSense or similar software. However, the upfront cost is more important to me. The system will be operating headlessly most of the time, so while an integrated GPU is a plus, it's not necessary. I'm open to any suggestions or advice that could point me in the right direction for this setup. Any recommendations would be greatly appreciated. Many thanks in advance!

Hi guys and gals and everyone inbetween... I need to find a router that can be programmed to give out more than 255 IP's on DHCP (The range Ii want to add is 172.25.0.0 to 172.25.1.0 (255.255.254.0) ) which allows the AP's to collectively dish out +_ 500 IP's in our company... I used to use a TP-Link Archer C7, but they are not in production anymore, need something to replace it with. Specsheets are not helping, and the few new routers I have in the officee only allow 254 IP's in the DHCP range, unless I'm missing something. Helpppppppp Thanks peeps

So, I have 16GB of DDR5 sodimm RAM (2x8GB) just laying around after upgrading my Laptop. I don't want it to go to waste and I also want to make a very low-power custom router with a mini PC, was thinking of getting a barebones that supports DDR5, has dual RJ45 and go from there, any suggestions for a EU guy?

Hello LTT Forum, I'm very new to Unraid and most of the concepts that come with it. I've mostly been able to get things going myself with the help of Google and YouTube but am running into issues finding easy to digest information on this particular topic. Please keep in mind I'm still very ignorant to a lot of networking concepts and terminology. I've setup Nextcloud to be accessible outside my LAN with a custom domain and everything is working great. I want to limit the upload bandwidth that the Nextcloud docker has access to though, so any time someone downloads a large file I've shared it doesn't just wreck my internet. My understanding is I can do this with a static docker IP and "simple queues" in Mikrotik RouterOS. Can anyone point me in the right direction? I already have Nextcloud running on a custom docker net but have not assigned a static ip yet. Is there anything I should keep in mind when assigning one? Can it be literally anything? Are there any extra steps I need to take in Unraid to make it visible to Mikrotik router? More importantly I need someone familiar with Mikrotik to explain simple queues to me and how I would then use it to set an upload limit on the static IP assigned to Nextcloud. All the information on Router OS seems to expect you to already have advanced level network administration knowledge and I'm just starting out. I disabled the fasttrtack rule and currently have a simple queue for the IP of the Unraid server that seems to be working. As stated earlier though I'd like to be able to setup queues for individual dockers on the server. Appreciate any help!

"I am currently experiencing persistent issues with my Netgear R7000 router. To address these problems, I am looking for a new router that falls within a budget of around $250. The ideal router should support a large number of devices, including smart home devices like Amazon's Alexa and smart lights, as well as handle streaming activities seamlessly. My internet connection is provided by Verizon Fios with 1gb speed, and I use the Verizon CR1000A modem. On average, I have anywhere between 20 to 40 devices connected to the network, depending on whether I have guests over or not. My current Netgear R7000 is configured as an access point with Dynamic DNS turned off to allow the modem to assign IP addresses. However, despite trying various settings, the internet keeps cutting out on this router. Interestingly, my desktop, which is directly connected to the Verizon Router/Modem combo, experiences no such issues. Given the common issues associated with the Netgear R7000, I have decided to upgrade to a more suitable router. Any recommendations for a reliable router that meets my requirements would be greatly appreciated."

Hi, yesterday my modem was taken by my isp to change the account binded to it to a new account that I made On returning, I saw that many of the devices in my hopuse are not getting internet from the router even if it is connected and I can even login to the router settings - but no internet. I left it as I thought it will be over when the DHCP resets itself. Today when I woke up the problem still exists and when I went further looking, I found this The NTP config was disabled and the time was 1970?! I enabled it and when applied, it didn't change anything, it is still showing 1970 and not updating!! On further looking I found that the modem ( which my ISP reset) was also having the same issue and was locked to 1970 January. I tried to manually change the date by adding NTP servers, but it still resets to Jan 1970 and not budging from that. Now these are my questions. 1. Can only my ISP change the modem time? 2. Are my router times affected due to this modem time? if not why is it not changing when I change it? 3. Are my device connection issues due to this time discrepancy? 4. If i tell the ISP to come are reset the time, will the devices be start working fine?

Hello there!!, I want to share an issue I'm experimenting since I bought my Router, When i ran speeds test and download large files, my Router always slow downs in a V graphic and later go up again, but later do the same slow down, I wonder if anyone experience this issue with this or other model, i had the same problem with a Belkin router. I'm currently using an Poco F3, Galaxy Tab A7, Moto g41 and moto G20 for testing my router. And of course I run the test with Wifi Only, a meter away, and different speed test and servers. I want to clarify my Modem ISP runs perfectly good without that issue as well the UTP Cat5e cable I'm connected. Thank for your attention and I'm waiting your help.

I have an interesting conundrum I am hoping my fellow techies can help me with. N.B. I am new to networking and currently studying CompTIA networking+ A few years back, the connecters to my Motherboards Wi-Fi antenna (asus x99 deluxe) broke meaning my computer no longer had Wi-Fi. For a while, I could just use Ethernet but a change of circumstance means I can no longer run Ethernet to my PC, this issue is doubled by my insistency to future proof and reduce e-waste. I know I can easily get a Wi-Fi PCI-e card to replace my on-board Wi-Fi and this would be the easiest route, and is cheaper than buying a replacement antenna for my specific motherboard. But my current PC will one day be replaced and repurposed as a home Server/NAS with a wired connection (possibly link aggregated) so personally a PCI-e card would be e-waste to me as I could not repurpose it later as whatever PC I build next will very likely have on-board Wi-Fi. So my question is how to best get wireless access back to my current PC with the intention of repurposing it down the line for something else and I have been looking at a variety of options. Whatever the solution will need to be set up as a wireless bridge. PC over Ethernet to chosen device, chosen device wirelessly bridging to ISP provided router (2 floors down) Option 1 – Full size Router (i.e. TP-link Archer AX72 or similar) used as a glorified Antenna and set up in wireless AP mode. With the intention to use as part of a mesh network in the future, giving the most band-with, features and customizability without being too difficult to set up. Option 2 – Travel size Router (i.e. GL.iNet GL-MT3000 or similar) again used as a glorified antenna for now. With the intention of using it for future IT callouts so I can connect to a company/public network with an internal/personal firewall on my end. This is probably going to be harder to set up in the configuration I currently want. Option 3 – USB Wi-Fi antenna (i.e. Tp-Link Archer TX20U Plus or similar) and would be my cheapest option. With the intention of using this in the future to troubleshoot Wi-Fi on other devices, like trying a different monitor or keyboard. This will likely have the least features and customizability, but should be plug and play. Additional information: I do not currently have a Wi-Fi 6 network but this is part of my futureproofing. My current ISP is with Sky, and I am still playing with if I want to merge the SSID or not. I have a few devices in the same room which would benefit connecting to a PC linked AP such as streaming VR games from PC to my Quest 2. UK ISP’s are notoriously bad for locking down there keys to their Router, but they have provided a booster that sits on the floor between the main router and my own floor, I would rather connect to the Main router to reduce latency if possible. Infrequent issues with ISP provided router, either from power cuts or Sky being lazy and just replacing the physical router, so something easy to re-configure with the ability to use the ISP hosts DHCP would be preferred over static IP’s and long re-calibrations. Budget is around £100 (or $125 USD/$170 Maple dollars) So which solution do you think would be best? Are there any options that would not work in the configuration I currently desire? Any issues or problems I should be warned about?

Roughly once a month, any device connected to my router through an ethernet connection drops from its normal ~300Mbps down ~100Mbps up to ~8Mbps down ~5Mbps up while maintaining a high connection bandwidth to any device on wifi (~150 down on 5GHz. Which is the same even when ethernet is working correctly). The only way I've found to fix this issue is to reboot the router, which is fine, but id rather not have too as I do host a few things and I'm not always home to be able to reset it when the ethernet drops off a cliff. I find it really strange that ethernet is the connection type that draws the short straw here. So, I guess my question is, is this an issue with the router its self, like a hardware fault or a memory leak? And should I get a different one? Router info for those interested: Model: AC750 Wireless Dual Band Gigabit Router: Archer C2 v1 00000002 Firmware version: 0.9.1 5.0 v0032.0 Build 170207 Rel.49213n Country of origin (since I think this matters?): New Zealand

Hi, Recently my Asus AC-RT88u wireless router (https://www.asus.com/au/networking-iot-servers/wifi-routers/asus-wifi-routers/rt-ac88u/techspec/) has decided not want to connect via WAN port with my TP-link VX220-G2V. After 10th factory resets and troubleshooting I've given up. Moving on I'm now looking at a decent replacement Wireless Router with atleast 4 ethernet ports and WiFi 6 to connect my smart things hub, 2 room with wired ethernet. I was also thinking on buying the same brand to prevent conflicts. ( https://www.tp-link.com/au/home-networking/wifi-router/archer-ax1500/) Possible replacement? Any help on this would be great. Cheers.

I want to create 2 independent private home networks and share a single fiber internet connection. My ONT (box fiber comes from) has multiple LAN ports, would it be as simple as buying a 2nd router and plugging it directly into the ONT.

Hey guys, I have a gigabit connection at home and one main router which can accomodate such a speed. However, I need two additional access points to make sure I get a stable WiFi connection throughout the whole house. The access point will have an ethernet connection to the router, thus I was thinking about a wired (and thus an access point and not a repeater) conection between them. However, one access point will be below the pool and and needs to be strong enough to penetrate a very thick concrete wall with ease. I do not have any experience with access points so I was thinking about using a router (e.g Asus RT-AX88u). However, I do not think it is the best solution. Does anybody have an idea how to solve my problem efficiently? My budget is similar to the router I suggested. Thanks and greetings from Scotland

Its a Nokia G-240W-A. When I try to access it thru the default gateway ip it doesn't respond. When I tried the windows network diagnostics utility it said that the page is online but doesn't respond to connection attempts. I've reset the router already so I don't know what to do anymore. Any help?

I wanted to ask if this is possible. I have my main ISP with its modem connected to my main router. I have an extra router that could use a mobile data. I wanted to connect my extra router to my main router so if ever the main ISP will have technical difficulties, I could use it as a back-up. I don't want to pull out the lan cable connected to my PC every time I switch from my main router to my extra router. Is there a way that I could just switch between the two without pulling out the lan cable on my PC?
