For me it's not about pricing (in the US), obviously it's cheaper to buy new and used devices from the US market (in most cases) however I still import Samsung phones just because they refuse to allow unlocking of the bootloader on North American models (U/U1/W). I see bootloader unlocking FALSELY related to Snapdragon vs Exynos chips however this is not the case, It's easily disproved by the existence of the 0 variants which are both unlockable and use snapdragon SoCs. Same thing with Z devices, all Z devices use Snapdragon SoCs (as of now) and yet some variants (B/N) are unlockable yet U/U1/W are not. I don't really know who to blame here, I would blame Samsung but if they really wanted to stop bootloader unlocking I feel like they would just do it for all regions... So I can only assume it's something to do with carriers, especially because similar stuff happens with Verizon specifically (Verizon Pixel devices are not unlockable yet other devices (even in the US) are...). It's getting harder and harder to find devices I want to upgrade to, I really like Samsung's software (once you remove all the useless garbage) and their hardware is also pretty good but between having to match up LTE (and now 5G) bands to find the 1 model of device that works reasonably on my (US) carrier and having to actually find one for sale at a reasonable price that's either willing to ship internationally or has already imported one it becomes a nightmare. You might say 'well, just don't use Samsung devices' but that's not the argument I'm trying to have. I keep with Samsung because of the great customization to community IF you have an unlockable one. Some stuff does still work and I did daily a US model for a bit but eventually gave up and imported one. I'm surprised there's almost no talk about unlocking bootloaders, how is it that I can pay $1000+ for a device and not unlock it so I can use it how I want??? I happen to actually own 3 variants of the Note9 and it really shows my issues with this kind of stuff: my N960F can run OneUI 5.1 (thanks nobleROM <3) but has god awful coverage/speeds (thanks Carrier Aggregation) in the US making it not useful as a day-to-day device. my N9600 can run (non-OneUI) versions of android up to 13 currently (maybe 14 with GSI images) but because of that lacks voLTE support (which is a WHOLE NOTHER discussion) and certain software that benefits the experience my N960U is stuck on OneUI 2.5 which is slowly losing support... both the N9600 and N960F can run up to date versions of android with little to no issues however because of Samsung's stupid locks the US model cannot. Their locks/proprietary BS is also the reason voLTE doesn't work... I also don't understand the argument that 'it makes sense from a business perspective' should be seen as anything other than greed... Not to mention that 99% of people aren't going to flash custom ROMs on their devices anyway.... I can't imagine it would impact sales of people upgrading their devices to noticeable degree at all. I'm hoping someone brings up bootloaders as part of right to repair movements because not being able to unlock a device that you own is completely ridiculous IMO, I get that 99% of people won't do it but again, they don't have to. No one is forcing you to unlock it & the security argument is total BS. It's not something you can accidentally do nor is it something that isn't super obvious if you're buying a phone (especially Samsung) used. There's a big fuck off warning on every reboot (in fact there's 2 warnings) and the warranty bit is set (which can be checked in recovery mode). This is mostly just a rant about the current state of the phone market but I invite discussion on what people agree/disagree with and talking about your experiences.

So today I bought a used Nexus 6P for the purpose of installing Kali Nethunter on it, and then after some searching I found out that I should root the device first, so I did following this guide using SuperSU, I installed the SuperSU from this website, the phone then hung on the Google logo for like 30 minutes, then I found out that the SuperSU project is dead, I said maybe because it's an older phone the root should work and then I entered recovery mode through TWRP and went to the terminal and I saw the # sign and to make sure I ran the command whoami and it gave me root, and then I read that if I'm stuck in a bootloop I should reflash the ROM that I already have installed, but I said it wouldn't make a difference if I flashed Nethunter, it's a new ROM anyway, and now it's been stuck on the Google logo for another 30 minutes. Any help would be appreciated, Thanks in advance.

I want to root a spare phone I have for fun. I was hoping to do something practical like update it to Lineage OS. I am new to rooting and was hoping to find the easiest method. I am looking for a guide that can also help me play Pokemon Go on it. I do not want to use my main phone for fear of overheating. The only reason I want to install Lineage OS is because I don't like using the Samsung 4.4.2 UI and wanted the security fixes of newer platforms.

The past few hours have been a nightmare. I was trying to root my Galaxy S7 (SM-G930W8) so I could uninstall some of the bloatware and install some apks. I first went here to try and root my phone. I couldn't find the samsung usb driver but I figured since my phone could connect to my computer and it recognizes it perfectly, it should be fine, so I skipped that step. Through some searches I came across this guide which seems a lot more thorough, so I compared the two guides and decided to follow the latter. That being said I downloaded the version of Odin in the first guide as it seemed less risky to do a one-click root than something more advanced, and since they were both using Odin, I figured there's no harm. Running through the steps I hit "start" in Odin and it started working, but it said "reset" when I clicked start, so I thought that was odd. A few auto-restarts later and it said "pass" but when it started to boot up there was a "recovery is not seandroid enforcing" message in red at the top left. At this point I thought maybe it worked, and the second guide told me to look for SuperSU in the apps, but it wasn't there. What's more is the software update no longer worked, and my device status was custom... basically the worst of both worlds. At this point I figured what's best is to find a stock firmware from Samsung. No such luck, even chatting with live tech support, it seems this is only done through kies, smart switch, or the phone itself. I did find something on here[ which after a painfully throttled 2 hour download, gave me a version of odin they wanted me to use, along with the firmware for my specific model. I went through their instructions word for word, and it seemed to have worked. I booted up my phone, and the status said "official", so I figured it worked. Not wanting to have all that time go to waste, I tried doing the 2nd guide, this one again, being really careful not to miss any steps. Same red error message, same custom status. I now have the Samsung firmware so I went back to that, and again the status said official, but now I'm having a whole bunch of issues. The keyboard sometimes doesn't come up, I can't type on it when it does, it comes up really late, the shift key flickers, sometimes it will type one character in, then as soon as I type another, it replaces it, so I can't actually type a string of characters together. The manual software update says failed processing after it tries to register the device. I heard that maybe updating through kies might work, except now I can't get the phone to connect to kies, even after running through the troubleshooter and restarting my computer. I'm at a loss. I would love to have a rooted version of the phone but at this point just a functioning factory reset would be heavenly. Any help would be kindly appreciated!

on a Oreo Nexus 6P. No matter what I do, I get to this point and nothing shows my device as fastboot. I've tried everything I can find on the internet. Ive reinstalled drivers. I've reinstalled while at the fastboot menu (Power button+vol. down). I've tried it on two different PCs. USB 2.0 and 3.0. I've tried it in recovery mode, regular mode. I've tried all the drivers out there and driver installing tools. I've done this on a windows 10 machine and a windows server 2016 machine, same results on both. No matter what I do my device never lists in fastboot devices and because of this I can't flash anything or unlock bootloader. My device manager looks like this Im so stuck I don't know what is wrong. Can anyone provide some help? First time doing this is it a dumb mistake? It always lists when I do adb devices but never for fastboot.

Any experience with lineageOs on the Xiaomi Redmi note 7?
Akita posted a topic in Phones and Tablets
Decided to go with the note 7 as my next phone but considering the stuff that's been going on with Huawei (Yes I know Xiaomi is not part of Huawei) and the amount of complaints I've seen about Miui I've been considering flashing it with lineageOs. The only issue I have is that I've heard you loose the ability to shoot in 48 mp mode with lineage, even in Google camera. Whereas, using Gcam in Miui has 48mp mode. This is kinda important to me because I'm an artist and the camera was one of the biggest reasons I went with this phone. Can anyone confirm this issue? Are there any other notable bugs with this phone & lineage? Or is Mui really not as bad as I've heard?- 1 reply

I have an old Samsung Galaxy Tab 3 from 2013 still running KitKat 4.4, It actually has "reasonable" hardware but it's biggest issue is the software, I would like to install a version of lineage OS on it that's based on a newer version of Android. I understand this involves rooting, and wiping the device out completely but I wouldn't know where to begin. Can someone tell me if this is possible on such an old device? And if so give me some guides on where to get started? Device in question: https://www.amazon.com/Samsung-Galaxy-SM-T310-16GB-Wi-Fi/dp/B00I0FT792/ref=sr_1_4?keywords=galaxy+tab+3&qid=1556227865&s=gateway&sr=8-4

So i got an old Xperia Aqua m4, and yes i know, its old, But thats because my other phone died on me and i cant seem to get it to work. Anyways, this phone sadly only got 8gb internal storage and android uses about 4gb of that while all the pre-installed apps take up about 1-2gb. So i only get like 1-2gb usable storage. I do got an sd card in it thats on 64gb and im wondering if there are any way to set that sd card to the internal storage? Ive seen people doing it easily but they all say i need at least android 6.0 (marshmallow or something), but my phone only got 5.0 and i doesnt seem to update to the recent one. So im wondering If it even is possible for me to set the SD card to the internal storage AND IF NOT, how can i upgrade to androind 6.0? Ive considerd rooting my phone, but i wanna make sure there arent any other way i can try before i try rooting it.

I recently bought a Samsung Galaxy J8 from Australia because I lost my phone there. When I came home to India I found out that the Australian J8 does not support VoLTE (Voice over LTE) but I need VoLTE for my Indian sim card to work. So I went to the Samsung service center but they straight away denied any support since I bought this in another country. The Indian varient J8 supports VoLTE but the Australian one does not even when both the phones have the exact same hardware. So its a software limitation. Can anyone suggest any method I can use to install any custom ROM that'll support VoLTE. I'm willing to install anything, root my phone or whatever it takes since I'm never gonna get any warranty on this. So I might as well try everything else.

I have an Essential Phone and I'd like to root it to gain access to more functions mostly Viper4Android, I've been looking up videos and guides but I'd heard there are a bit of different ways of rooting depending on your phone, since this is my only phone and I don't wanna destroy it, I'm very cautious. I have a bit of experience of this area with my old Ipod Touch 4th gen around 2011 but I've forgotten mostly everything, and I know there is a good amount of danger and I wouldn't like to go into this head first so I was hoping if I can get helpful advice/guide/video to rooting for my specific phone, I've heard there are different methods of rooting but I'd like to know the best and safest way for my Essential Phone without destroying it. Thank you

Long story short: I need help finding a device under $250 that is easy to root, has good battery life, and a nice display. Long story: I'm trying to root a phone so I can spoof my location in Pokemon Go. I don't want to void the warranty on my personal phone, so I tried doing it with my old one, an LG Stylo 2V, it didn't work and the phone's battery sucks. I decided that I would buy a cheap phone that's easy to root, has a good battery life, and decent display. I went into bestbuy and decided on the Moto G7 Power. I ordered it from Amazon and when I got it I discovered that the phone has a ridiculous flaw, it's a brick. The phone doesn't respond when plugged in or turn on when you press the power button. Apparently the solution to this is to hold the power button for 15 seconds on and off until it turns on again. I've only successfully done this once and it took an entire day. The phone was forced to restart when updating and the same thing is happening again, so I'm going to return it. Now I need help deciding on a new device that I can root easily.

I've been using a Google Pixel for about a year now and I love it. I got a second one to mess around with, and I can't decide what to do/what would be worth it. It's been a while since I've been active in the rooting and custom ROM scene, and a lot has changed. None of it is above my head really, I just can't make up my mind. I had read up about rooting the pixel last summer, and it was still relatively new, but straight forward (with custom ROMs being still too experimental for my tastes). I decided to hold off until my warranty was up (the hardware issues common with the pixel spooked me), but now that I have another I'm ready to dive in. One thing I forgot about though: SafetyNet. I would like to keep that intact. So, that said, which would be most optimal (stable&secure) yet also useful (features&root)? I'm mostly unfamiliar with Magisk, and am hesitant to see how it interacts with applications in granting root, not sure about benefits over Xposed, etc. etc. TL;DR help my indecisive self figure out what to do to my phone

This is my second ever post on this forum (although I've lurked for a while) and I'm hoping to find anyone willing to help a newbie out! Here goes: I've been pulling my hair out trying to root my WIKO Jerry (running Android 6.0) and so far I've been unsuccessful. I've tried every method I could find but to no avail. I'm completely new to rooting so I might have made some noobish mistakes along the way. What I've done/tried so far: - Unlocked bootloader and enabled USB Debugging in the phone's developer options - Installed ADB/Fastboot drivers (although my device isn't detected in fastboot mode) - Run every 1 click root software solution (including APK's) under the sun (unsuccessfully) - Install MTKdroidTools (which couldn't create a scatter file) - Install Android USB drivers (although I'm unable to install Android Bootloader Interface) Despite the unlocked bootloader/enabled USB debugging I can't get the phone to be recognized by my pc in fastboot mode. ADB devices recognizes the device just fine. Why do I want to root this phone so badly? I want to be able to recover my files (mostly photos) after a recent (and accidental) factory reset. I tried using Diskdigger but for a full scan I need root access to the file system! Thanks in advance! Any feedback/help/tips are appreciated!

Hi, Just upgraded to a new phone. I'm just new to rooting my samsung s7 so that I can use my Dualshock 3 controller with "sixaxis controller" app. My questions are: What are the positives/negatives from rooting your android phone? What is the correct way to root your phone? Cheers.

My dad's work provides him smartphones (verizon) and he got an upgrade to a GS6 and he had a GS4. I have a Moto G (2nd Gen) and realized (about 6 months after his upgrade) that his phone has support for the T-Mobile bands and has a sim card slot. This being an upgrade for me (better processor, camera, screen, 4g, nfc, 5ghz, etc) I wanted to use this phone. I have no issue with getting my sim card to work (adding the apn and changing the in-phone setting to gsm) however, the last supported version of android is 5 lollipop which I would much prefer to have android 6 for the battery life and less bloat ware (thanks touchwiz). So I did a quick google search to find that you can install cyanogenmod 13 (android 6) on the GS4! I was able to complete the task of rooting the phone, something that i'm new too. However on unlocking the boot-loader i found out (correct me if i'm wrong) that there are only workarounds for the Verizon version of the phone. So I go and attempt to install twrp through Goo-manager to discover their servers no longer work... Next attempt was with Twrp Manager and this succeeded until you reboot the phone to give you an error that the phone cannot start. I was able to avoid this by plugging in my usb cord while the phone was off and booting into android.(also got this error when attempting to boot into recovery) However this leaves us at no progress. So I seeked a less user-friendly way of installing twrp by using a program called Odin however this leaves this. On the phone is says. It has some text before that says write protection enabled but searching on google people have this and still can install things through Odin. and NO i dont have reactivation lock enabled I would like to have cyanogenmod 13 (nightly) on my GS4 but get stuck at getting twrp installed because of Verizon's security on the device.

Hi there. I am trying to root my Huawei phone but is becoming a task. Im nearly thinking of selling it at this stage as I cannot root it!! All the steps on the internet are the same. They say head to vmall, register and accepted unlocking agreement. I do all that but dont ever get to accept anything, just get brought to some chinese site. So basically I cannot complete step one! I have tried Kingo Root and all those and they are also not working for me! Does anyone have any help for me at all!?! Please!

Think I broke my phone trying to unroot it! Any help?
gonfalons posted a topic in Phones and Tablets
I have a Sony Xperia Z2 that has been running the existenz mod. I tried to unroot it so I Could install the persistant/annoying Sony update. I tried software which did not work, and the other solution I saw was to delete a "su" folder. I did that, and now my phone is not able to get past the boot logo. I can start the recovery program but I would like to get access to one of my apps if possible; and if not, remove the root and reformat entirely. How do I go about this? I have an electrum wallet on the phone with some bitcoin that I would prefer not to lose! -
First I would like to make the disclaimer: I AM AWARE THERE IS A GENERAL GUIDE PINNED, just I want feedback directly from multiple people. Today I finally got my first *real* Android phone, LG-D821 (Google Nexus 5) with 32GB of storage currently running Android 4.4.4 KitKat I am a noob when it comes to rooting (or any advanced Android task), so I have come here to seek help. My main concern is I am VERY worried about bricking the phone while in the process of rooting. I would like some advice on rooting but mainly I want to know is rooting even worth the risk? As I am under 18, replacing a $370 phone isn't a option at all If I were to brick it. Also if you plan to give me advice, I do not need to backup anything on the phone as I just got it today and I haven't even hooked a google account to it. I plan to use this tutorial as well: www(dot)youtube.com/watch?v=OeIAWTiinL8 and I want to ask is there anything else I really need to know outside of the tutorial?
