Hello, For a long time rooted device user i would like (for different reasons) to switch to non-rooted phone (it will be s10e or mb pixel). But I do not know if alternative solution exists for some functions: Essential: Advanced charging control - enable/disable fast charge (charger agnostic), limit max charge (f.ex to 85%) System-wide adblocker what does not relay on vpn functionality (to run alongside of vpn, if needed) Firewall Desirable: System-wide on-demand file access 3rd party permissions manager app and advanced permission management (in-settings list is limited) Custom gps position for apps (without access to real position) If some of that list can be made in twrp, prior to system boot, it is fine. Does someone have similar experience, found some solutions?

My phone is rooted, so I technically do not need ADB for anything, there are usually better ways to do something. Unfortunately, for file transfer, ADB appears to be the most reliable and fastest way to transfer files, by far. Unfortunately, my phone has a problem, the option to enable USB debugging is there, but it does not stay on. It turns itself back off immediately. Either a Magisk module isn't working right or something else is up. I actually did boot into safe mode and ADB and USB debugging work in safe mode. I guess now is the time to debug what does not work. Do I need to post more information? Any idea on what is causing this?

Because modern Android pissed me off for quite some time, I went back to using Android 7.1 on the HTC ONE M8. It made me realize how great Android used to be until they started ruining Android with Android 9 making call recording nearly impossible. Android 10 then introduced scoped storage which was a royal pain in the ass! Android 12 finally killed Android for good by introducing the PhantomProcessKiller, which makes it impossible to avoid scoped storage by making it impossible to run any Android VMs or do really, anything with your device. That and the fact that the Pixel 7 Pro could not run Yuzu in a vain attempt to make up for all these negative changes made me want to go back to older devices. However, based on advice from @OhioYJ, I rooted my Pixel 7 Pro and installed a Magisk module that disables the terrible PhantomProcessKiller that was introduced into Android 12 without any announcement or warning! It infamously made VM apps made for running older versions of Android completely incompatible (the VMs would run for a few minutes, and then freeze up). It also made Termux users mad as well. Fortunately, with this disabled, I have regained so much functionality already and can already run an Android 4.4 VM with support for Flash! But we are not done. There are still two more things we need to do before my phone will be in fully working order. These are technically optional, as VMs can now run again with no issues, but I would still like to use modern Android with everything that originally made Android great to begin with. The two things I want to address are 32-bit compatibility and scoped storage. While I can now work around these by running an older version of Android inside a VM, I would still prefer to not have to use VMs for these. So what do I do next to make scoped storage history and bring back 32-bit support? With those things fixed, the only thing missing is the ability to run Yuzu, but with this phone's Mali GPU, that is not happening even with root access. However, all of this should make up for my inability to run Yuzu. And thanks @OhioYJ for recommending me to use root access on modern Android to fix its faults!

So scoped storage has made /data/media completely obsolete. Originally, it was meant for shared storage all applications could access. However, even when rooted, scoped storage makes it notoriously more difficult to use than it was before. So I came up with a solution. If scoped storage only restricts how you are able to use /data/media, then why not just delete it? Scoped storage doesn't act outside of this directory, so I have basically nothing to lose. /data/media is now useless because of scoped storage, so I am best off just deleting it now. Any alternatives to taking back /data/media? Can I recreate this folder to restore application functionality and not deal with scoped storage again? Or am I just best off downgrading to an older version of Android again?

So basically, scoped storage makes Android much more difficult to use than it was before. /sdcard is now a much more protected directory than /system! How did they screw that up? Am I supposed to just download and store things in /system now? How does that make any sense? I thought protected folders the OS is stored in shouldn't be freely written to, but now it is easier to use that folder than is is /sdcard, which was originally meant to be user-facing storage all apps and the user could freely access! Apparently people are having less trouble with modern Android than I do, so I will need to ask how they make it look so easy. So yeah, I need to defeat scoped storage. So I need a root tutorial on how to use modern Android. Can anyone help me? Do I just look crazy?

I have a Redmi Note 10 Pro running Android 13/MIUI 14.0.7.0.TKFEUXM Global. I want to root it again (it loses root with each update), but the only 14.0.7.0 Global ROM available at xiaomifirmwareupdater.com is 14.0.7.0.TKFMIXM. There is a 14.0.7.0.TKFEUXM EEA ROM, which I believe is the EU version. Can I extract boot.img from the TKFMIXM variant to root a TKFEUXM ROM? Will that brick the phone because of the different version? Alternatively, could I use the EU version? I don't want to flash the entire ROM, just extract the boot.img file. I appreciate any help.

pixel 4a Trying to unlock USB-C video output on a Pixel 4a
Noulo posted a topic in Phones and Tablets
I am very inexperienced in android rooting and everything related, so I'm sorry if I look like I have no idea of what I'm writing about, but I'm trying to get started. I just found out Pixel phones have the USB-C video option disabled in software, which sucks. On the surface many articles I've read say that it is disabled on software, which makes it sound like just installing different software (like a custom ROM) could be a solution. I've also read some that say it's disabled on kernel level, which chatgpt tells me is extremely hard to modify and should be only done by a pro, but on some other forums (which I know I probably didn't really understand) it looks like installing different software, again, could be the solution to the kernel problem. Is it really posible to do this? has someone ever done this? I know the phone could still have it disable on hardware level, but Pixel phones have a way to use an special dock to output video, so it really seems like google just disabled the option but the posibility is there.-

basically I guess I'm looking for a phone that can be easily rooted, I'd try with my a41, but I can't find any custom roms for it... budget: 300 euros Also ironically I don't want a phone without the google app store, so certain brands aren't an option I suppose.

Not sure if this is the right place to ask or under phones and tablets, if any mods see this and wish to remove it or move it, do it with my blessing. Tldr Samsung tab S6 lite. I can enter download mode, no matter what I do i cant enter recovery menu anymore, I am stuck at the first samsung splash screen (not the second one that flashes in and out, I am at the static image) preamble. I have been trying things for hours, at this point I don't know what to do. its been a while and its like 4 am when I'm writing this so I will try my best to recap what I have done but I will for sure get some details wrong. Then I just want to know how to proceed or if I'm just bricked. my steps The tablet was working fine, I wanted root for rclone I used This tutorial. At the end of it I was stuck in a boot loop I googled and I believe the issue was the files I chose since the site seemed weird, I tried going for lineage OS instead and it worked, I was on lineageOS lastest android 12. Apps were crashing and after searching it seems to be bug for android 12, I wanted to go back to stock I searched and found Frija, used it to download firmware again, try flashing a bunch of different things, stuff like the directly the AP, the boot img as AP formated as a tar, everything including the BL and CSC. Now when I restart the device I dont boot loop anymore, I just stay at the samsung screen I dont remember the details from how I properly reached LineageOS, but the recovery menu was not stock. I guess I also installed a stock ROM, but at this point I cant tell. I have flashed so many different things into every field in Odin that at this point I feel like I bricked it. Questions I used XAR region for frija, SM-P610 is my device, since its Wifi version No idea to find out the correct region, are these files fine? After reading how to root, it seems only the boot.tar is needed from the AP file in the firmware to properly "get to stock" is this true? what else do I need to go fully stock, what do I need to run on Odin? If after running fully stock flashes on Odin im still stuck in static samsung logo does this mean im bricked? Any other ideas? Heimdall did not work for me the patching of drivers failed, ADB needs recovery menu which I cant access I can only enter download mode currently. I am going to bed, I will probably answer in 4 to 5 hours. I don't know what to do anymore, I appreciate your time reading this and any help you can provide.

I have a Lenovo Tab M7 that i want to flash since the stock Android 9 is sluggish and can sometimes be unresponsive. However in my search it would seem Lenovo products are notoriously difficult to root and thus flashing a custom ROM is much more difficult. I would like to know if it is possible to flash a custom rom on this tablet and if there is a tutorial for newbies like me. @huilun02 if i recall you once said XDA was your backyard, any input?

I got a oneplus 5t, coming from a htc 10. I want to root it and flash lineage os. I already tried it using the method i used for my htc with twrp but it never got passed fastboot and even got bricked. I had to reflash to stock android 7.1.1 and then upgrade to android 10. None of the tutorials on xda mention dm-verity. Even the official xda youtube tutorial vid but other sites do. So what is the deal with that? Is that why i got bricked? I already have an open bootloader from my first try so i am now waiting for some help. I am encrypted according to the settings. Can someone please help me?

Hello All! I'm currently having trouble figuring out how to run a shell script that executes with root privilege after the arriving at the desktop in Lubuntu 20.04. Unfortunately, the built in Autostart functionality in the LXQT configuration manager doesn't execute with elevated privileges. Additionally I also tried putting the shell script in etc/profile.d directory; however, all this did was make Lubuntu take longer to get to the desktop. I have made the file .sh, executable, and owned by root. Essentially, I want the terminal window for the script to pop up after I arrive at the desktop to prompt me with options. The script waits 60 seconds for user input before automatically executing another script. The reason it has to have root privilege is because the second script getting automatically executed needs to have root privilege as well. That script contains a watchdog which needs root privilege to trigger a hard reboot in the event of a hardware failure while I'm away from the computer. Hope someone can guide me in the right direction because I'm currently out of my depth. Thanks!

Hey guys, last year I asked if I can unlock the bootloader and root my phone without the permission code from Huawei (which they don´t offer anymore) and didn´t get any positive response. Now I looked again and it seems they removed this code since EMUI 9.1. So I searched for any conformation and just found this https://ministryofsolutions.com/2021/08/huawei-p30-lite-bootloader-unlock-mar-lx1a-lx1m-lx2a-lx2b-lx3a-al00.html They offered unlock codes before as far as I know, but they don´t do it anymore. I saw some sketchy videos on youtube with p30´s with custom os installed, but I´m absolutly not convinced of it. I don´t want to brick my phone so does anyone of you guys have some experience with it since 2021/22 or just can confirm that it is indeed possible ? I searched on XDA as well, but I couldn´t find any post since 2020. Thanks for help

So today I bought a used Nexus 6P for the purpose of installing Kali Nethunter on it, and then after some searching I found out that I should root the device first, so I did following this guide using SuperSU, I installed the SuperSU from this website, the phone then hung on the Google logo for like 30 minutes, then I found out that the SuperSU project is dead, I said maybe because it's an older phone the root should work and then I entered recovery mode through TWRP and went to the terminal and I saw the # sign and to make sure I ran the command whoami and it gave me root, and then I read that if I'm stuck in a bootloop I should reflash the ROM that I already have installed, but I said it wouldn't make a difference if I flashed Nethunter, it's a new ROM anyway, and now it's been stuck on the Google logo for another 30 minutes. Any help would be appreciated, Thanks in advance.

hey fellas, today i came up with an new idea "WHAT IF I OVERCLOCK MY PHONE TO RUN WINDOWS ?" to run windows 8.1 i have to allocate 2 GB of ram to the OS and a dual core processor i have 1.8 GB of memory free out of 3 GB on ideal conditions at clock speed of 800 MHZ with an Octa core processor clocked at 1.40 GHZ so i think overclocking my processor to 1.60 GHZ , ram to 1200 MHZ (sounds crazy but affective) and deleting all unnecessary applications from google and certain stock applications like musics.and installing a lighter version of android if this all doesn,t work I can decompress the windows 8.1 disk image and remove certain application which i don't want like disk partition and all those useless wallpapers and even cortanaedit 1 by editing windows registry and if this doesn't works i can just install the modified iso in my computer and can make everything as low as possible like resolution ad hence forth i will be able to run windows 8.1 in my old android device. thanks for reaching the bottom fellas!! EDIT1: WINDOWS 8.1 DOESN'T HAVE CORONA EDIT2: I AM USING LIMBO AS AN EMULATION SOFTWARE EDIT3: I AM LOOKING FORWARD FOR MAKING USE OF 1GB SWAP STORAGE FROM AN EXTERNAL SD CARD WHICH WILL BE SLOW BUT MAY HELP US IN MAKING WINDOWS A LITTLE FASTER.

So I've been using my Samsung galaxy s4 for around a year now (a hand me down) and i absolutely hate it in it's current state. Because i unlocked it from AT&T to T Mobile i cannot update meaning the last version of android my uncle was running (Android 4.4.4) is all i get (And it's unstable, anytime i try to close an application or use Facebook for longer than 30 minutes it just crashes) so i'd like a custom ROM for improvements. From what I've seen on YouTube installing something like Lineage OS or Tesla ROM is easy and somewhat safe. Is there any specific way i should do this? or should i hold back and keep using my S4 running android 4.4.4? I don't have a replacement so if this bricks the device that's it. (I've made a post related to this regarding a found galaxy s7 three days ago, That device has since than been returned to my friend who found it. what he's done from there is not my concern. this however, is regarding a completely different device)

I want to root a spare phone I have for fun. I was hoping to do something practical like update it to Lineage OS. I am new to rooting and was hoping to find the easiest method. I am looking for a guide that can also help me play Pokemon Go on it. I do not want to use my main phone for fear of overheating. The only reason I want to install Lineage OS is because I don't like using the Samsung 4.4.2 UI and wanted the security fixes of newer platforms.

Hi everyone, I have a Galaxy S6 from Vodafone and I would like to install an official non-Vodafone stock ROM because I want to get rid of all that Vodafone junk that auto-installs when updating. My phone is free, meaning that the S6 is not company-locked. I've seen that everyone uses Odin in order to get this, but I'm not completely sure that Odin doesn't root the device when installing the stock ROM. The reason that i don't want to root my device is to keep receiving OTA updates, and to keep getting Samsung KNOX. I have downloaded a stock ROM from sammobile, and there they reccomend to use Odin, but, as I said, I'm afraid of rooting my device by accident. Thanks for your help.
