I got a used RTX 2070 super for 200€ to replace my aging rx580 but now that I got it I want to try GPU passthrough in Linux to a Windows VM. I'm not planning to run both at high % load. Mobo: MSI X470 GAMING M7 AC CPU: 5600X What cable do I use to split the connection? I lost the ones I had in a move.

I'm currently in the process of upgrading my pc and i've already got a list new parts i need to get. Just so i know if its a wise decision or not: is it worth my money and time upgrading to a 750w PSU over a 650w as i am planning to get 2 GTX 1080's some of you may be saying "get a 1080 ti" as SLI tech can be buggy, but i've only just got my 1080, so it's something i'm considering, but i'd rather like to test out what 2 1080's in SLI are like paired with an i7-7700k rather than just go flat out for a 1080ti. any advice would be appreciated many thanks: Harry (TheONLYHamster)

Hi all, I've just built a new system and it included a Corsair RM650x PSU. I am aware that the fan will be off when not under load and under a certain temperature threshold. But what i didnt expect is that it would constantly ramp up/down over and over again. It's doing it to the extent where I'm questioning wether its working Ok or not.. So currently, my CPU Core temps are at 38-41*c average across all cores. My GPU is at 56*c. Case ambient (as reported by the motherbaord, so take that as you will) is 32*c. Room ambient is very cool, as its the time of year in the UK to have all the windows open for airflow, lol.. Its actually fairly chilliy in this room. So I have no reason to believe that the PSU is over whatever threshold it might have to trigger the fan to come on (what is it?). Also, the system is under almost no load. I'm literally just running RealTemp, OpenHardwareMonitor, and Firefox to write this post, lol. So why is it that the PSU's fan will ramp up, from silent to very very audible for aroun 5-10 seconds, then ramp down to silent again, and remain silent for around 5 seconds, then ramp the fan up again. Over and over again, and I'm not exaggerating with those timings, whilst writing this post its ramped up/down maybe 20-30times. The exhaustted air at the back of the case doesnt "feel" hot at all, it just seems like its pointlessly spinnign the fan up and down at very close intervals. Anyone have any experience with this? Is it normal? It doesnt seem it to me. I may try to return this to the supplier as faulty, can anyone recommend a PSU that has more active management of its fan? Or perhaps I should just get a corsair with manual software fan control... Dave.

Hello Guys , i bought an Asus GTX 1060 Strix OC and now its time to upgrade the PSU. I was thinking to buy Corsair RM650X or RM750X which in my country(Greece)they are about 112€(650x)-125€(750x). Do you think its good choice for an upgrade? Hey linustechtips! I posted this on reddit but it's hard to get any views/replies there. I'd appreciate any help... I finished building a PC for the first time this week (more on that on a later date). It's been 15 years since I had a modern desktop so I'm not too familiar with how things work these days. Relevant specs: Ryzen 3700X + wraith prism Aorus Elite X570 Sapphire Pulse 5700XT Corsair RM650X Crucial Ballistix 3200 (slightly oc'd) Silicon Power NVME SSD It's plugged into a Belkin surge protector. The system is stable but there is a high pitched electrical buzzing/hissing sound (coil whine?) even when idle. I can hear it at least 6 feet away, and it's irritating. The 5700XT was connected with a single PCI-E 8 + 6 connector. Observations booting up - can hear the buzzing, then it lessens once it goes to Windows moving mouse cursor or scrolling through browser - small buzzing (hardware acceleration is off) when dragging a start menu tile - buzzing becomes louder Cinebench - no change in buzz/whine Superposition - loud whine Userbenchmark - loudest whine. only noisy during graphics testing part Playing Risk of Rain 2 - loud constant buzzing noise that only lessens during load screens Removed GPU - buzzing seems to disappear at bootup (but can't test further since no integrated graphics) I ruled out the motherboard fan as the buzzing is present even when fan is off. The wraith prism seems to have its own constant buzzing/chirping sound that makes it harder to pinpoint. I tried listening with a cardboard tube and it seems to be coming from the GPU and the PCI-E connectors. I initially suspected the 5700XT, but I borrowed and installed a MSI Geforce 760 and I get the exact same noises/volumes under the same conditions. So I removed the 760 and reassembled the power supply/cables (huge time consuming pain) to try the 5700 XT with 2 separate PCI-E connectors. No difference. However, I notice that the rear of the power supply now has some humming sound when the PC is off. Is this normal? some short videos What could be the problem here? I'm suspecting the power supply at this point. Thanks!

Hello! I want to do custom Cables for my PC Build. Im going to be using the PSU RM650x Im just confused about what cables i need? cause i dont want to buy cables i dont need. And its also extremely expensive! Unless you have a good cheap website for other cables. I really need help to know what cables i need to buy for the PC To work as normal (CustomCables)

Hi, I recently took apart my system and redid some of my cable management to make airflow better in my SPEC 02. I just finished up and when I try to turn on my system, the first thing that happens is that I hear a popping static noise and then nothing happens. The motherboard is getting power, I can tell because of the orange strip on it. If I try to press the button again then nothing happens. I've tried turning the s6stem on with a screwdriver (shorting the pins method) and it will produce the same sound from the PSU. I never removed the PSU From the case and it was working before I changed anything, but I don't know why it won't work. Attached is a video of the sound is hear (Note: there are 2 distinct sounds: me pressing the power button on the case, and the sound of the PSU). Hey guys, i need little advice here, i just returned my vega 64 Gigabyte Gaming OC, because of the blank screen and fan spinning to 100% sometimes BSOD with message "thread stuck in device driver ", i still don't know is it because of the RM650x from Corsair that cannot handle the wattage or amps, it or it is that card that is being faulty ( it has a lot of rumour that that card has a lot of problem), however i am considering, still buying vega 64 may be from other brands(sapphire) because of freesync, my spec: b350 prime plus ryzen 1700 overclock 3.7 GHz 16 GB Ripjaws 6 fan 120mm 1 Cooler master liquid lite 240 2 Sata 7.2K 2 SSD 1 Sata 5.4K i don't want to buy new power supply since it is a bit difficult to fit in my case, and it will add the cost to the 1080ti second hand card territory also some question: will PSU shutdown by it self if for example i reach like 570w out of 650w total capacity? is overclocking vega 64 possible at all with RM650x?

Hello,I have the RM650X, it makes a pop noise every time i switch the switch on the surge protected extension lead which my pc is plugged into. Yesterday when i switched the switched it blown the fuse in PSU, there was a loud bang and a flash, it also tripped my fuse box. The PSU now is completely dead. This is the 2nd RM650X within 1yr, the same problem happened before which then i got a replacement. I've looked around on different forums and read that other people have had the same problem with this particular PSU. My question is why this happening? Is the RM650X a bad PSU or am i doing something wrong?

I'm trying to make my own custom cables for my PSU. I'm having some trouble finding the correct pin layout. I've looked and I've found some great websites showing me what they should be, but I've seen both that the pin layouts for RMi and RMx pin layouts are different, and that they are the same and I'm new to this so I'm a little confused. I've been using this picture for reference that I downloaded off of the modders inc power supply pinout repository. I'm doing my 24pin, 8pin EPS, 8pin PCIE, and hopefully a dual and triple SATA. Also, it seems to me that there's an extra pin for the 24 pin. I don't know if it's one of the ground pins so I just can't see the 2 there or what. As I said, I'm new to this and it's a little confusing to me as I've never done this kind of wiring before.

Hi guys, I am thinking about getting the CORSAIR RM650x Modular PSU - 650 W to replace my Corsair VS450 power supply. This is for two reasons; 1. Its modular and so i won't have all the extra cables hanging around in my case. 2. It has more power so that i can update to a better GPU in the future. Currently i have a 7700k, gtx 1060 6gb, 16gb ddr4 3200mhz ram. Im thinking about upgrading to a 1080/1080ti in the future and wondered if this would be compatible and would be fairly simple to switch over from the VS450? Thanks for all your help in advance.

This issue has been pretty well documented, and the best coarse of action is just to RMA. But given current world events, I don't want to be stuck without a PSU for the next few weeks. I have an RM650x that works just fine, But ticks in fanless mode every few seconds. This is a pretty common failure that isn't dangerous to the system, and it's a first hand unit i bought January of 2020. Is there any way i can silence this in the mean time? Attached vid for reference. I wasn't doing anything taxing. It's slow, Louder in person, and extremely annoying.
