Hi, im building a new pc only for gaming and the motherboard that i buy came with an extra 6-pin connector labelled " pd_12v_pwr " , is right on the side of the big 24-pin connector. According to the manual it says that provides additional power to the front panel but also to the PCIe x16 slots the build: cpu : 7800x3d mother: Asus ProArt B650-CREATOR User’s Manual ram: 64gb 2x32 6400 mhz gpu: single Rtx 3090 Asus rog psu: Seasonic 1000w gold (SSR-1000FX) https://seasonic.com/focus-plus-gold#specification ssd: 2tb m2 nvme gen4 ¿Can it be left unplugged or is there any risk to damage something like the gpu?

hi, so when running pretty much any game, i hear a noise thats like a creak, (Crrrrt... Crrrrr Crrrrrrrrrrt) and stops for a while, comes back and stops. I Haven't heard it when my desktop is idle. Only when running comp/hard games e.g - Warzone, Fortnite, and now even Among Us ! I've only heard this on fortnite, but now its happening with really low spec games.. I Heard this may be an issue called. Coil Whine, but coil whine is a continuous high pitched beeping kind of noise. Please help ASAP ! As I love my computer and don't want it in harm in any way.! Here's a recording of it. it stops and starts, but this is the longest time it did it. You might have to put on maximum volume and push ur headphones to your ears to hear it.

I never did it because I feared fucking up my CPU, but I wanna try it out once I upgrade Do I only have to make sure that my cooler can handle the heat? Is it really worth it in terms of FPS?

Caps is there any way to install a new os on a GPT harddrive without clean the entire hard drive just to convert it to MBR ? I just format the entire "C" in my drive. And I didn't know that my hard drive is in GPT and to fix it, I need to clean the disk and convert it. But all my file in "D and E" will gone and there is so many important file in there.

I am currently on the fence about what type of cooling to use in my new system build i.e. kabylake i7-7700k oc. to 5ghz. It seems that on the market as of right now there is a lot of fair competition between some air coolers and AIO's, but I am a little scared of putting water in my system. On the flip side the air coolers can have some compatibility issues with ram height and clearances. So my question would be what is the groups opinion on what cooler to go with?

ASUS GTX 670 DCU2 re-paste is it worth the risk?
tryhard techy1169 posted a topic in Troubleshooting
For the past 6.5 years i have been using my ASUS GTX 670 dcu2 with no issues and good temps thanks to an aggressive fan curve. while there is technically no problem with my card the way it is rite now i would like to potentially lower my temps and try for a slightly better overclock. if that can't be accomplished then i can easily live with lower fan speeds. however there is significant risk involved. if i accidentally damage my GPU i am screwed. this is my one and only GPU and i do not have the money to fix or replace it. with all that said i have 3 main questions. 1. can i safely and easily remove the cooler from my gpu to swap the thermal paste and are there any guides showing how to do it? 2. can i safely use arctic silver thermal paste on the GPU die? 3. if done will it give a noticeable enough impact to have made it worth it? aka substantially lower temps and more overclocking headroom. please only comment if you have experience re-pasting GPU's. speculation from people that have never done this doesn't help me in any sense of the word. i look forward to reading your responses and thank you for reading.- 4 replies

Hello professionals. Right now I need to test if my motherboard powers on with other PSUs. I didn't feel like purchasing new power supply just to see if my motherboard works so I found someone on Facebook who gave away his 2 power supplies that he doesn't know if they even work. Both power supplies don't have 4/4+2 connectors for my graphics card and I don't really care about that because all I need is to make sure my motherboard powers on i.e. SYS_FAN and CPU_FAN spin. Here's first power supply. It doesn't have I/O back switch but it's not a big deal: Here's a second more sexier power supply: Here's how it looks from behind: I am going to use paperclip to turn each power supply on. Seeing their fans work, I am going to test their 24-pin cables for nominal voltages. Should I also test 4-pin CPU cord? Now on serious note, how high is risk for these power supplies to damage motherboard? My system specs: CPU: AMD Ryzen 5 3600X Motherboard: Gigabyte B450 Aorus Elite GPU: EVGA GeForce RTX 2060 RAM: 2x8GB Corsair Vengeance LPX 3200MHz Original Power Supply: Corsair TX650M

Hey Guys, Next Month im going to build my first custom pc and I'm asking myself if I should take the risk and use thermal grizzly conductonaut. Where can it spill that would cause irreparable damage. The Pc is going to be pretty expensive ~1600€ so is it worth to take the risks and especcialy where are the risks. Thanks

So I wasted a lot of time looking through amazon and other sites for a pci-e 16x riser cable for modding my pc to place my graphics card sideways to display it through the window, so its NOT for mining. Now I could not find an item, since the reviews either say its burned and shorted out, or they say it work fine. And they weren't enough reviews to begin with. All I could find is 3M one that is 50cm or 25cm which are too long for my use, not to mention too expensive. So I just want a working one that don't suffer from unexpected crashes and performance drop. I did however find these 2, but not sure if they would be the same as the crappy ones from amazon. these two: http://www.moddiy.com/products/PCI%252dExpress-PCI%252dE-Extension-Cable-Riser-%2819cm%29.html and http://www.moddiy.com/products/Premium-Gold-Plated-16x-PCI%252dE-Extension-Shielded-Cable-Riser-%2819cm%29.html My plan is to install the GPU just like the picture below

Hi all, I'm doing my first PC build and I was just wondering as to risks of making a bootable Windows 10 USB. It seems super easy with the Rufus software and gets rid of the need to spend $110 on a new key. However, and I don't remember where I heard/read this, but I recall hearing that making a bootable Windows 10 USB sacrifices the machine or product key you used to make the bootable USB. I guess the question I'm asking is if I can still use my laptop after I make the bootable USB or if I'm better off to buy the Operating System. Thanks!

i got this laptop a couple years ago (2012 i think) it got an i5-3210M and when i downloaded a temperature software because of the laptop feel hot. boom! 100C on full load!! 64C on idle! i was like WTF. are these temp save ? should i get it cleaned out and put a brand new thermal paste ? i will go to HP ( the manufacture of the laptop) for putting a new thermal paste and cleaned out if the answer is yes. is this normal tho ? can i bring my own thermal paste to the service center ? i just need the service of dismantling my laptop, clean the cooler and putting the thermal paste if necessary.

I'm a little strapped for cash and looking to make a few bucks so I had an idea to take advantage of some of the flash sales that Amazon frequently has. The idea is to buy items that are deeply discounted on a fire sale (usually around 40%), holding them for a few days, then listing them on eBay for somewhere between what I paid and normal list price. Then if the item doesn't sell, I return it to Amazon; I'm a Prime member (through school for free for now), so all it would cost is the 5 minutes it takes to walk to the UPS store. So my question to you is, does Amazon have any penalties for abusing the returns system that I'm seemingly unaware of?

Is there any risk of building your own pc as long as you are careful? I know the cpu pins can get bent but is it anything else than that? Can water-cooling systems leak? (h100i)

Hello My computer is constantly crashing; in games, when I open a browser. The crash's appear completly random which makes them all the more frustrating. The error message reads "Dispay driver NVIDIA Windows Kernal mode driver, Version 347.09 stopped responding and has successfully recovered" It seems this is a widespread issue and there are literally hundreds of so called fixes on various forums. I have tried amost everything; disabled my integrated graphics, changed the Nvidia nvlddmkm.sys file, downgraded my nvidia driver, chosen not to install the 3D nvidia and PhysX drivers.... the list goes on. I was looking at some more guides and came across a video saying that a possible fix is to increase the GPU voltage using; NibiTools and nvflash. Is this safe? How much should I increase the voltage by to be on the safe side? I have a GTX 760 Twin Frozr with basic case air cooling. Thanks Here is the video if anyone reading is interested. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RGvEKYvf3Ac

Long story short / tl;dr :- *************************** I have spare ddr3 sodimms and 2.5 hdd from my dead laptop, and I am planning to build a low cost itx mini pc to salvage them. The motherboard / soc I am eyeing is Biostar j1900nh2, which comes with sodimm ddr3l slots... and I wanna know if I can use the salvaged ddr3 instead of buying a new set? ************************** Long story long / additional info :- ************************************ So what can I expect the risk to be The board is okay with the ram but ram is running quite quite hot, so all's well? or The board isn't okay with the ram, the system runs but cannot deliver the 6G performance, so not bad, I can hold out on buying till later. or The ram actually fails and becomes unusable, so its back to square one on the buying front, bad outcome. or I end up frying a brand new motherboard and thereby incurring a loss of ₹5k+, worst outcome to ever imagine. HELP!!! PS: if you are wondering why I am so reluctant to buy a new set of ram, it's because 2x 4GB ram modules costs around ₹7k while I am able to round up a mini case, the mb, PSU and a brand new wireless kb+m set in around ₹8k. So if I really need a new set of ram then it'll throw a serious monkeywrench in my budget. PPS: If you are wondering why I am over analysing this its because I believe in calculated risks rather than leap of faiths. PPPS: For reference ₹6k~$100

Hi, Has anyone tried to Overclock an Asus PA238q ProArt monitor or aware of the same? 1. What’s the monitor’s Refresh Rate OC potential? Can I get to 1920x1080p @ 75Hz without breaking it? 2. Can Asus ProArt series monitors be run 24x7 @ OC relatively safely (without frying the panel I mean)? 3. And if I do get to OC my monitor, which would be the preferable connection/cable type to use? Dual-Link DVI-D /DVI-I or DisplyPort 1.2 or HDMI 1.4a!. All opinions / suggestions are appreciated. Thanks for reading & helping.

I found this forum post on sebijk.com where they explain that you can copy a text from their website and then save it as a .reg file. When you open it, the registry will import the needed settings for XP to get updates till 2019. DO THIS AT YOUR OWN RISK! THE UPDATES AREN'T TESTED ON NORMAL XP MACHINES ANYMORE SO BE CAREFUL! (I haven't tested this, so I cannot say if this works or not.) I just thought I'd share this with all of you if anyone wanted to try it or have a virtual machine just to see if it works. But again, it may seriously damage your computer so be careful. Also, Microsoft may patch this soon. Maybe they already have, I don't know. This was posted about four days ago. I don't think they are that quick though. http://www.sebijk.com/community/board15-other/board73-tutorials/2985-getting-xp-updates/ This is mainly for 32bit systems. There is a 64bit tutorial as well but that is more complicated. A lot of us probably mainly use newer systems or Linux but I thought I'd share it anyway if someone wanted to try it!

Hey guys, I was just thinking to myself and i was wondering what would happen if you ran your radiator out of your case and had actual cooled liquid pouring out on to the fins? Or maybe having your rad in a tub of constantly cooled coolant? I know it kind of sounds ridiculous but that seems like it could work haha. Thanks:)

Anyone here remember that epic board game? I used to destroy my brother at that game. We also played the rule the loser had to pack the pieces, I would proceed to smash the pieces off of the board everywhere. Brotherly love. UHEUEHUEHUEHE

Hi guys, So when I realized that Chrome was blocking Youtube embeds on LTT due to them being non-secure (as Youtube embeds don't use HTTPS, thus causing Chrome to block them as "unsafe scripts"), I started searching for a way to prevent Chrome from doing this. My solution was a bit heavy handed, but worked. Add the flag "--allow-running-insecure-content" to your Chrome shortcut. However, this will mean that any website you load with this Chrome (where the flag is enabled/used) will load unsecure scripts automatically. Which is a huge potential security risk. Do this at your own discretion. In my Googling, I found the "chrome:*//flags" page, remove the *, and in it are a bunch of flags/features that are experimental for Chrome. I had to add the * because it kept making an entire line of text just disappear as it is probably trying to make it a link, but failing since the protocol is "chrome" and not "http". Overall, I found some pretty cool flags. Some dangerous ones, and some interesting ones (and combinations thereof). Here is a list of the ones I particularly liked: Stacked Tabs Tabs don't get smaller, they just stack. Here is a picture of an example of what it potentially does: Which was pulled from this thread. FPS Counter Gives you the FPS a website is running at if hardware acceleration is enabled. Kinda funny honestly. Enable Password Generation Chrome makes a password for you to use for accounts when it detects an account creation page. Enable Performance Monitoring Passively gathers performance data and displays it graphically for you. Enable Online Cache mode When the source is unavailable, it reads from your cache to give a webpage. Track time spent on each page (self explanatory) Just search the flags page using Control + F (Find) with the emboldened & underlined text to find the flag I list. Here is what is at the top of the page in "chrome:*//flags": So do any of this at your own risk, like I said before regarding discretion. There are quite a lot of site orientation flags (such as, fixed position elements, compositing for fixed root backgrounds, etc.), but I don't use those myself, though they can be useful, I'm sure. Here is Chrome's Wiki regarding flags for those curious. Thanks, Vitalius

Hello lads! I have a setup where I would like to use multiple hdmi outputs for my single hdmi monitor. I've been looking towards a HDMI switch, this one exactly: http://www.av-cables.dk/hdmi-switch/high-speed-auto-hdmi-switch-5-vejs.html (note danish site) BUT this switch features the following: "Boxen er elektronisk og er med billede stabiliseringskredsløb for optimal kvalitet." Translated: "The box is electronic and contains image stabilisation-circuit for optimal quality" This makes me wonder, will this maybe end out giving inputlag ? The reason is, I want to connect my PC, shield, raspberry pi, playstation ect. to the same screen, and just switch around. But I don't want to waste 399 dkkr (73$) if I risk inputlag.

Hello, I just came across this abomination and it would be nice if a "proper" Tech channel could take this and correct some things. There is much more wrong than I stated in my comment but I think it shows my point. My comment to this: "didn't suspect a thing" besides the whole camera RIG and lights in front him. This is some next level reality TV sh*t. OKok... wth! 7:21 onwards: replace "these devices" with "firearms". What do you think now about these arguments? "Law enforcement can use this to spy on predators and criminals." IF, law enforcement already identified them as such well, the need is not that high anymore - but ok. And IF NOT: well then it is for multiple very good reasons ILLEGAL! What is this video??? I expected you to show how a "normal" person should defend himself against such things. Not using the cable inside CAB for example or use Androids usb connection settings. But this is horrible and very dangerous product advertisement!
