Hi Everyone! I'm a graduate student right now working on Molecular Modelling Research applications on Nanotechnology and Toxicology. We're the pioneering laboratory here in the Philippines for Molecular Modelling with ongoing research topics ranging from drug delivery systems, pharmacology, data science, nanotechnology and Covid research. Right now we're in the process of building up our HPC cluster so we can run longer simulations faster. We've already secured funding from the government for the procurement of GPUs. However we're having a tough time finding local suppliers that can both supply the 3090s and legally deal with the government. Is there a way to directly procure Quadro 5000 units from Nvidia or RTX 3090s from other manufacturers? I'm thinking that this would ideally minimize the cost and stretch that precious funding. Hi guys, I have started searching for some information about the microcontrollers/controllers with which I can develop my own controller and the SMART-house. It is needed for my research work. I am new to this, and it is hard for me to find the necessary information. I have found that such controllers as Arduino, Raspberry PI, ESP32, etc can be used. However, how can I find the model of the controller which can suit my requirements? They are the following: 2-stage building with a garage (so it is +-400 sq.m.) with some number of SMART devices that are responsible for security (cameras, fire alarm, etc), temperature control, radiators, leakage control, opening/closing control, etc. I am interested in the hardware area at first. A research published by by frontiers media's their scientific journal "Frontiers in Psychology" concluded that games probably increase sexism towards females in young male adolescents. They claim they corrected this for other factors such as religion, television exposure and other factors. their conclusion: they pointed out some weaknesses on their own study, for example that it just could be that sexist people play more video games. They also point out that the data points are very spread, which is a possible indication of an uncontrolled and uncorrected influence on the test (aka their coefficient of determination was low for the statistics under us), for example right-wing authoritarianism. Another thing they note is that there is an under representation of some types of schools that generally have a demographic that is of a higher social class(which apparently have a lower sexism rate). Another thing is that they used the statistics from a single item on the ISDR-2 (International Self-Report Delinquency Study 2) which is weakness, and measures only a certain type of sexism (motherhood or domesticity). the strengths of this research are that they included calculations for a lot of different influences (a multivariate analysis for the statistics under us). they note that more research is needed to experiment with what the effect of video games are in respect to sexist behaviors. and that it would be another reason to push the gaming industry towards more gender equality, since there already is evidence of body dissatisfaction caused by video games in woman including eating disorders and self objectification. woman after all are 48% of the gaming scene, so this isn't something to take lightly if true. their sample size was 13520 French youth aged 11–19 years on schools in Grenoble and Lion. they had a participation rate of 95% (this is very high for research) and their sample demographic in terms of age, sex and school level corresponded with urban france. Well what where their raw results? what do those results mean? i honestly don't know, im not that good of a statistical analyst because i only got it in high school. Alright, just need some input from people around the forum. I am planning to rework my server back-end for the house. Currently I have an older C2D and a FX machine handling server tasks (Media, HTML, Switch Management, etc. C2D is the Domain DC.) That should be going away. To replace my DC I have an older Dell -Poweredge 2970. Yes I know it's a power hog, and yes I know it's loud, but I had an idea. Dangerous, I know. But instead of putting capatcitors on the fans, could I just put a fan controller in the machine and populate an external bay with a controller? A couple temperature probes and such should allow a controller to manage the heat with PWM fans right? It's CLEARLY not in a data center, so it shouldn't run hot. Anyways, that is the most QUESTIONABLE concept, I'm not even sure if the server would boot. If it doesn't? No harm, no foul, I'll just move the FX machine to that job and the next server will replace the FX machine. Next, I'm planning a system based around the Intel S2600CP2J Motherboard, a dual socket, 2011 board. I want to put two E5-2660 8-Core CPU's in there as a virtualization center for the house. I will migrate all the VM's there, and run them under UNRAID or something. IDK, One of them will be a gaming VM for guests as well. So that mobo, the Xeons, 64GB of HP Server Memory, as well as a GTX 970 I have sitting in my office, and other supporting hardware. Should work. Not really a question, but just a thing. My main question is whether the Poweredge could even function like that. So yeah, thanks for input guys!

I was recently given a GTX 1080 Ti by a very generous friend, and I want to build a system that can take advantage of it. My budget is around US$1000 for the rest of the PC. I'm a computer scientist and a major multitasker, so I almost always have over 100 tabs open in Chrome along with a lot of programs (I definitely need more than 16 GB of RAM). I'll be starting my graduate research in a couple months, and I'll be doing some heavy image/video processing and graphics work. I also do photography, so I will be spending a lot of time in Lightroom and Photoshop. I have an old 1080p monitor that suits my general needs fine, but I would gladly take recommendations for a more color-accurate display for <$300. Having a high refresh rate or Gsync isn't important to me. I'm a casual gamer, at best, so I don't anticipate using my PC to play games very often. Even then, I won't be playing any intensive AAA titles. Additionally, I don't care about the looks of the system at all--so no RGB or see-through case side panel. I would like a micro-ATX board/case if possible, since I don't think I'll ever fill it up with more than one hard drive and one PCIe card. Fan noise also isn't a big deal to me, so I'd like a CPU cooler that can allow some minor overclocking without being over-the-top. I'd like an NVMe SSD too, at least 512 GB. I think a Ryzen 7 2700x might be a good choice for the processor, but should I wait and get the 3700x? Or just go with the 2700x after the 3700x comes out and there's a price drop?

Hospitals have live records of clinical data, mainly for use by doctors to standardise practice and conformation of practice. Patients now have access to a sample of this data collated and converted into information for their use. Very cool and useful. Well, quite a lot of the problems tend to stem from that doctors are not quite up to speed with digital technology. Thats generally not what they study, so they need a better implementation of information. There have been numerous strides here in NZ, but Apple's Health app is a good solution for a ubiquitous approach. Information regarding standardisation of clinical outcomes ultimately improves patient outcomes. We can then know the right treatments for the patients and apply it to standard practice. Now if only there was a way to enforce standard practice. My opinion: Best thing since sliced cheese. Hopefully Android users will soon have the same access to Apple's database (One database is a lot better than two in this scenario, not an Apple vs Android thing - Apple has the edge by far when it comes to health. If we have two data sets, particularly with data from phones, this could mean duplicates if people have two phones. You might be thinking that in this regard Apple's health is taking information from the hospital database, but the health app also collects data on the Activity app, such data is also wanted - and would be centralised in Apple's Health app). If we can finally get a good data set like this, with live information feed, it will be very beneficial for research. Such a huge leap. [EDIT] So this would also might mean that if you go in for a blood test or urinalysis etc then the results would be on the Health App asap, and you would not need to go in or ring to access. Very important and key for quality of care.

It's undeniable that we are lacking mostly on Single Core CPU Power, rather than GPU power. Der 8auer stated lately in an interview, that there will be some exciting new Technology coming at the end of the year addressing that issue. Der8auer said about gaming PC's: "We need higher clock rates, more efficiency, we do not need more cores". He argues that manufacturers should instead focus on performance and efficiency, IPC increases (Instructions per Clock). Hartung (Der8auer's last name) says that 5 GHz per core is the goal, but then it should be over. He says that the clock frequency is not the most important factor, but the efficiency of the architecture. Here he mysteriously referred to interesting hardware that is expected for the end of the year, but wanted or could not tell what exactly that is. Hey, I'm trying to build my first build from parts I can buy in the UK, preferably new parts or not. I have a issue with researching parts. I own 6x2GB DDR3-1333 RAM in a refurbished build (which has a 1050ti, SSD + HDD and PSU which I'll put in my new build) that would be preferable to use in this build and I can't find a suitable MoBo and Processor that'd go with that. (I'm not so great with finding certain parts because I'm kinda new to this whole deal and it's a real learning experience) So I would like some help trying to find something like that. I was looking for some info on my Gateway VX920 from 2001 but, I could not find a whole lot browsing around and all the links I have found on old forum threads no longer exist, then it hit me, The WayBack Machine. With the WayBack Machine I was able to find the Gateway's website form 2001 and navigate through archived pages to find the lost specs and info that I was looking for. So, has anyone else used the Wayback Machine from web.archive.org to research old products for specs and other info that is too hard to find? Also, I found out my monitor cost $500 back in 2001.
