Hi All, Me and my friend run a remote game server and for the past week have been unable to access it due to both version of Microsoft remote desktop getting stuck on these securing/configuring screens for up to two mintues before showing a black screen and ultimately disconnecting. I've searched around and all the error code brings uup is an unknown reason for disconnection. We knew it wasn't really very stable to being with and id intend to install TeamViewer and acces the server machine remotely that way, however, this isn't possible anymore due to the fact that our current means of access has been effectively wiped out. If anyone has any sugegstions fo things that we could try to try and fix this before either of us have the chance to be on site with the machine, I would be most appreciative. If it comes down to a fresh install of Server 2016 and the addition of Team Viewer, just reply with that and I'll mark as resolved. TIA

TLDR: Can I use Tailscale to access a remote Unraid NAS to back up my Home Unraid NAS and access the remote LAN's Windows Shared Network through a VM on the Remote Unraid NAS. If so, does anyone have any guides or experience doing this? I have a new Unraid server built that I want to use as an offsite backup. This will be placed at my mother's house. I want to also be able to access her networked computers and devices (with her permission of course). The main reason to access her computer is to help maintain her picture library. She goes nuts taking pictures with her phone, emailing them to herself and then creating an exponential number of folders to "organize" her pictures. This usually occurs because she'll download the zip file from gmail, but then every time she wants to look at the pics she extracts them....every time. So there are nested folders all over the place on her PC. I'm sure you all have dealt with this. After spending a weekend onsite fixing this for her I vowed to never do so again by checking in on her PC every now and then and fixing it, then pointing her to a photo library she can be confident in. Tailscale seems to be a the newest hotness and I'm hoping it can be used in this solution so port forwarding, weird DNS stuff and all that is not required. Would I be able to set up Talescale so that: My Home Unraid server can be connected to Mom's Unraid server for period backups of documents, pictures and other valuable data using rsync. Pretty sure this is possible but I haven't found any guides for doing it on Unraid. In order to access her networked computers file systems with out using remote desktop (I don't like it and will freak her out if I just take over her PC) I was thinking of setting up a Windows VM on the remote Unraid box and using that access her shared network files. Is this doable with Tailscale? If this was set up properly would I be setting up a VPN connect between my Windows PC and the VM? Or would I access the Unraid box through Tailscale then run the VM through the VM Console(VNC). Would I then have access to her network since that VM should be on that local area network? Does that make sense? Am I making this too difficult? I know remote desk top would work but I also want to play around with Tailscale and VPNs to learn more about them. Thanks!

Hi everyone, So here is the thing. Right now I am at home using my PC. I am connected to the internet provided by my ISP which is named as City Cables. I have a friend who lives in my city but in a different area. He is at his home and has a laptop. He is connected to the internet using some other internet. We both are on different networks basically. I want to connect to his laptop from my PC via REMOTE DESKTOP CONNECTION to do some work. If we were using the same internet service, it wouldn't be a problem but we are on different networks. So what can we do to achieve this? We have already enabled the Remote desktop connection settings and we have connected to each other machines before as well when he visited my place, but unable to connect from different networks. I know there are other solutions present as well besides using the Remote desktop, but IS there any way to set up remote desktop in our scenario? Regards.

I am running the latest insiver dev build of Win11, haven't had any problems the past 1.5yr untill now. Whenever I connect remotely to my machine, first Windows becomes unresponsive (can still move my mouse cursor and click things nd open start but nothing opens or executes including shutdown and reboot) and then fully locks up/completely freezes requiring a power cycle before it'll do anything again (method of remote doesn't seem to make any difference, RDP Parsec and Google Remote Desktop all trigger this behaviour). When I'm on the machine locally none of this occurs and Windows works flawlesly. Anybody who has any suggestions? (It's currently locked up and I am not near my machine right now, so untill I have cycled the power when I'm back home I am unable to inspect/collect logs or any other data) EDIT: I just found somebody in the Insider community who has the same symptoms but on a local log-in, for him the trouble starts when he tries to open Steam so next time I've been able to powercycle it I'll have to try if opening steam when on the actual machine would trigger the symptoms for me as well, because if that's the case it has nothing to do with the fact that I'm remote https://techcommunity.microsoft.com/t5/windows-insider-program/new-canary-build-killed-my-steam/m-p/3807008/highlight/false#M21606

Every time I want to open my raspberry pi, I have to go through this screen. And when I open the pi, this window stays behind the entire time unless I close it. It unnecerally adds adds extra clicks. Thankfully it doesnt ask for pass or username as I've saved them. I was thinking, some lines could be addede to the "Target:" at the end of "....exe" in a shortcut properties on desktop? I'm not sure about the launch commands to make my pi open in one go. Help is appritieated. Thanks.

I own a Honor 9 Lite. The most obvious answer would be USB cable, but it randomly disconnects during transfers, interrupting any operation (I've tried troubleshooting it, like disabling Power management in Device manager, but nothing works). Taking out the SD card is also too much trouble. What's a reliable way to transfer big files (1-10Gb) remotely? I need a program that can write on SD card, as the internal memory is mostly full (1.5Gb free storage remaining). Things I've tried: ShareMe, Sweech, Server FTP - a bit slow, the connection is often interrupted, deleting all the progress, despite my strong WiFi signal and battery optimisation disabled. Laptop performance is also at max. Cloud - Drive and Mega, reliable but too slow as method Do you know anything that could let my Laptop write reliably and not too slowly on my smartphone's SD remotely?

First things first: With remotely I mean from within the same building, not from a completly different town or country. Wake on LAN isn't an option. I want to turn my PC on, not just wake it up from sleep, which is why WOL isn't an option. I have my PC in a different room and all of my peripherals are connected via Thunderbolt 3. Very similar to what Linus did with his and his wife's PC. Sadly it doesn't seem possible to power my PC on with my Lenovo Thunderbolt 3 dock. Silverstone sells a kit for ~25€ to do exactly what I am looking for, but I'm not too much of a fan of the included remote. I could probably hack something together to integrate a button into my desk or something, but was wondering if someone has a better idea. I'm open to basically anything. Just want to get some ideas flowing here The kit that Silverstone sells:

Hi Everyone! I'm placing a new build in the crawlspace just underneath my office. The temperature in the crawlspace is pretty stable ranging from about 50-70 degrees across the seasons. Cable lengths will need to be about 10 feet long to reach the crawlspace build. I've got monitor cable, computer power switch, and speaker cables all solved. What I need is a good solution for getting multiport USB access to the computer. I envision a hub mounted under my desk with a local power supply and a cable to the remote computer in the crawlspace below. Ideally, I'd need about 6 USB-A ports and 2 USB-C ports. The computer has a 3.2 gen 2 USB PCI-E card installed that has a single USB-C output. I have a 10 ft long active USB-C cable to connect the below-floor build to the deskmounted USB hub. I have a couple of questions: Will using an active cable degrade mouse and keyboard performance? (I like to game and don't want my Razer gaming gear to get laggy). If it's going to screw things up, is there a better option? Second, Most of the hubs I see have built in connectors to plug into the computer. A local power adapter is fine but I need to be able to use my own USB-C cable to connect the hub to the source computer. Does anyone know of any units that have an adequate number of ports and a connection option that fits the bill? Thanks for any help!!!!

Budget: ($2,500 USD) Peripherals and mounts not included in budget Country: USA Games, programs or workloads that it will be used for: I am a software engineer who works in the game industry, this will mostly be used for proprietary engines, Unreal 4 & Visual Studio. It would also be used for playing personal games (COD, Skyrim, Dying Light, FarCry) I am looking at moving into my camper van to travel for a while during the remote period of my job. The only thing that is holding me up from doing this is being able to have the computer and internet access I need to continue to work on the road! If I could get this done I would be fully ready and able to move into my van and travel!! Other details: Min Specs Needed: Intel I9 (any version) Nvidia 30 Series Min Resolution at 144hz- 2K 32gb Memory Storage: 4TB min(2TB of those SSD min) I have build a few desktop before however now I have three new problem that I face: 1. It must be build into my camper van - Durable - Small 2. I must find a way to power it for extended periods of time without shore power: - I would rather not use a generator (or if so a quiet one, I don't want to be that guy) - The Van already has Solar but only enough to power fridge, lights, water pump, charge a phone (Would need way more batteries and panels to accommodate a desktop, possible more space that I have) 3. RELIABLE ways to have a satellite internet connection (would prefer 100+ mbps) - Remember this needs power too!

Hi, i have recently seen Linus new house build video and i really liked the idea to have gaming PC in different room (cooling and acoustic). So i would like to do something similar to his old house setup with thunderbolt. I need some advice, how to do it. How to pass Display port signal 1440p 144Hz, usb keyboard/mouse and audio over distance 10 meters ideally over single cable via thunderbolt dock. Could you give me link for the needed hardware? (cable, dock station, etc...)

I've been looking everywhere for a one-handed HTPC remote with air mouse, keyboard, and scroll wheel but they don't exist. I'm currently using a W10 Gyro and it's almost perfect, it has air mouse and a full keyboard, except there's no scroll wheel. The only one-handed option I could find with the ability to scroll was the Lenovo N5902 which was discontinued years ago. You'd think a scroll wheel would be standard for a PC interface device but apparently not. Instead I have to use the arrow keys which only work for scrolling if the correct panel within the correct window is selected, and if not, I either have to find a spot to click that won't accidentally open something or use the scroll bar like some kind of animal. And it's not like a scroll wheel on a remote is anything new - LG has had scroll wheels on their TV remotes for a long time now. So, it's a little strange that this doesn't exist for HTPC remotes. And yes, I know there are PC remote apps I can use from my phone with one-handed scrolling, but I don't like having to launch an app every time I want to control my HTPC and I prefer physical buttons.

I'm curious if someone heard about this. I got a Philips android tv (PUS7906). Works as is should except one thing: the remote only wants to work when the tv is on, meaning that I can't turn it on. It works between 100 clicks, buttons not stuck cuz like I wrote, only when tv is off.

Hello, Here's my specs: AMD 5 3400G MSI TOMAHAWK B450 MAX 2 CORSAIR 2x8GB - 3200mhz 500GB Kingston m.2 SSD (boot drive) 1tb Seagate HDD So I have setup the port forwarding and stuff in router's config page, configured in Windows settings (Device Manager > Network Adapters > (Select your adapter) > Power Management) Is there something that I should configure in BIOS too?

I'm starting Uni in september and my course requires some CAD simulations ect which my PC is more than capable of (Specs below), and so instead of buying a powerful laptop too my plan was to get something to just use as a parsec terminal to my main tower. My priorites are: cheap lightweight good battery Nice keyboard In that order. It has to have a 1920x1080 screen. Other than that there are no requirements, since it will only ever be used to remote into my desktop using parsec. I'm going to use the money I save to get a large data plan and just hotspot the laptop for connectivity. Ideally it would have an NVME drive, but it doesnt need to be any bigger than 128gb since I'm not going to be installing anything to the laptop itself, and again it doesnt need much RAM for the same reason. I've had a look around but dont seem to be able to find much, any suggestions are appriciated! Hi everyone, I'm looking for a way to setup a system that would allow me to make local phone calls and send SMS in one country, remotely from a computer in a different country. The idea is to get a SIM card with a phone number and somehow connect it with a junk phone or cellular USB modem to a computer and allowing some kind of access to it over the internet to make phone calls entirely on a computer software or web gui. Does anyone know of something like that? Alternatively there might be an app to control the phone over the internet and make a call on it that way, but that seems more restricted security-wise, so I haven't found anything like that. Thanks! -Sergey.

Hey LTT-Crew! Nowadays there are many Cloud Gaming platforms. Being blessed with an old but still strong computer, I want to assume those possible comforts in my home. My setup is my PC (debian bullseye) and a Raspberry Pi 4 (4GB) connected via (m)HDMI to my TV. Both are wired up in 1Gbit. What I'm trying to do is to stream Games from my PC to the RPI4, i.e. to the TV. I know the RPI is capable of playing 4k videos, so I thought a 1080p game can't be too hard when the PC does the calculations. The road so far: - RDP -> Works better than expected, but not good enough to reach the "acceptable"-mark. - X11 -> completely fluent for everything but gaming and videos - Steam -> Quality-wise exactly what I'm looking for, but it has the downside off mirroring the screen. This is somewhat important as I would like for the PC to be usable while I'm playing. So in essence, I'm looking for something between X11 and Steam's remote play. I'm looking forward to read your ideas!

I've been led to believe that its possible to be able to run a server, either running Linux or BSD, where I can run virtual machines remotely. What I have in mind, as an example, is that I'd have a Linux machine running 24/7 at home. It would have a 32-core CPU and 64GB. Whenever I'm abroad, I'd take a quad-core laptop with only 8GB RAM but I would log into my server then I would run my virtual machines. So now I'm wondering, would I be able to feasibly use my measly 4-core and 8GB RAM laptop to remotely run a virtual machine running on 8 cores and 16GB RAM? Would the remote VM be taking all of its resources from the server machine or would it actually need any from my remote laptop as I run it and therefore cause it to blow up?

Hello all, I was thinking of moving my computer to my server rack, but this poses 2 issues, the one big one is remote display and the second is IO. In my walls I have one LC to LC fiber and 2 cat 6 a in my office under my desk. I was considering using this kick starter but I think it died. does anyone know of any similar products or solutions that would work? The kickstarter is exactly what I am looking for but they haven't had an update in 7 months. It seems like a simple concept that i am trying to do and possible from as far as I can see. Any insight into a solution is welcome! Kickstarter: https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/1456216766/optichub-usb-c-optic-fiber-hub-extender-up-to-300m Thanks P.S. I didn't know if this is the right sub-forum, if there is a better one, let me know and I will move it.

So I've potentially bitten off more than I can chew. I picked up an HP ProLiant server; the DL380G6. Dual Xeon X5670 processors with about 72 GB DDR3-1333. It's currently got 16 TB in HDDs, with no RAID configuration or real OS implementation. The goal is a multi-purpose server/workstation, entirely dependent on the network. I'm thinking Unraid (which I've never worked with) from the top to manage partitions and the RAID config, either in RAID 5 or 10. Assuming I go RAID 10, that gives 8 TB of redundant storage, which should be fine for what I'm trying. For partitions and breakdown, I want to assign two cores and 4 TB to Plex, which I'll use to back up the unholy amount of DVDs and Blu-rays we have, and stream them via the PlayStations scattered in the house. I then want to assign four cores and 2 TB each to two VMs, supplemented with 6 GB RX550s (the best card I could find that supports virtualization and doesn't require any more power than the PCIe slot can provide). I'm also thinking a PCIe riser that allows for two more SATA connections, and I'll do OS for those VMs on a couple 256 GB SATA SSDs I have on hand. This is where it gets tricky. I want the VMs to be network-accessible, and to utilize a couple old (2012) AIO PCs as terminals/consoles/thin-clients to allow for two quick drop-in home offices as both my wife and myself go to remote work. I think VMWare offers a direct software solution for this, but the implementation is outside ANYTHING I have experience with. So if anyone has links to useful community resources, or software suggestions, or anything else useful, I'm receptive to everything.

Hi everyone, I'll be on a family trip starting the same day as the Diablo Resurrected first ladder starts. Which is very unfortunate since I really want to play during the start of ladder. I have a gaming PC at home, but no windows laptop that could run the game. Only an M1 Max work laptop. If Steam Deck was available for purchase and it could arrive within a month, I would buy one, but that doesn't seem to be an option. A laptop seems too much money and I would probably never use it again, I really don't need a gaming laptop. I have a Switch, but the PC and Switch BNET characters are separated and I would like to continue to play on my PC after the trip. I was thinking of Geforce NOW, but it doesn't have the game available and the app seems laggy as heck anyways on my laptop. I saw Geforce Streaming as another option, but I guess it supports the same games as geforce now and also port forwarding doesn't seem to work well with my ISP. Any Ideas? Thanks!

Hello internet. Not sure where to begin, or what search terminology I should even use. I have an old WD MyCloud, which I used to be able to watch content on remotely. (via mobile). However, WD stopped supporting Cloud for MyCloud after a certain upgrade. Anyway, I want to setup my own Plex Server via a NAS ( a QNAP TS-253D is on the way). I know, this supports Plex etc., and watched a billion (maybe 2 or 3) videos how to setup this up. But what I really want to do is, somehow, remotely login to the NAS (or a low powered PC), to search and download Torrents, which will go directly into the NAS. I don't think the NAS will have an App to torrent, so I think I might need a dedicated low powered PC, so I can remote in, and have the Torrent app installed. Maybe, a raspberry Pi can do this? I'm not sure. But this is the internet, and there's gotta be someone out here who is in the same boat. What are some setups people have? and what applications do they use? Any ideas? Cheers in advanced

I’m making a bring headset and I am using a wii remote to emulate a mouse for head tracking but I would like to use it to tilt my head side to side does anyone know how?
