So Game Pass for PC is broken. I had 200gb of games downloaded, canceled my subscription, and uninstalled all the games, but Game Pass only gave me 123gb of my space back. I found that all the games installation files are stored in the hidden folder 'WindowApps'. I tried several times to delete the folders inside WindowsApps, as the WindowsApps folder took up 77gb of my precious M.2 space. I accidentally found a solution/new problem by deleting the entirety of the 'WindowsApps' folder. It didn't delete EVERY folder in there, it said some of them were being used at the time, and I only wanted rid of the games that Windows wouldn't let me access, for example my PC still boots up, but apps don't. I can't open any Microsoft apps, or the the Microsoft store. I tried going back to a restore point, but that didn't work. I looked into the 'Reset this PC' option, but it wanted to delete every video game I have installed, and seeing as I have 5.5tb of video games downloaded, and my max internet speed in 2MB/s, that's is NOT an option. I want my PC to function properly. I don't use any apps really, but I don't want Windows to be broken, and I don't want to delete 5.5tb of my steam games. Is there a way to restore the apps? Is there somewhere I could download the default WindowsApps folder? I have a CD with a Windows 10 ISO, is there a way to reset windows, without deleting ANY of my files, or my video games? I worry if there is a Windows Update, and I don't have the contents of WindowsApps folder, that I won't be able to boot.

So I'm trying to reinstall Windows 11 because apparently my installation is kind of broken. But I don't want to remove all the apps and drivers that I've installed. I looked up the method where you use the setup.exe method, and still it removes all the drivers there is. I need a way where it doesn't remove the driver, because i sourced those drivers so hard. The hardware that i used is an old Lenovo IdeaPad 300-14IBR which has some rare hardware drivers. Is there a solution for this ?

I am selling my custom built computer, which includes Windows 10 that has been activated with my personal Windows account. I told the kid who is buying it that I would do a fresh install of windows and update the drivers for him (since he doesn't know how). What I need to know is: When I go to reinstall windows, how can I activate windows on this machine again, without having to use my personal account? I downloaded the windows media creation tool and made a boot USB from that, but I don't want to go through this process until I know what steps I am going to need to take. I have looked all over for this, but there is so much conflicting or irrelevant information to parse through. Thanks in advance for any help!

so here is the issue: i just re install and changing my serial key for the reason of genuinity & fix my broken start menu (start menu can't be opened and if i open it, there was sudden crash and back to sign out mode). However i re install with clean re-install on my SSD, with nothing left, and yesterday, my SSD was in sufficient space, even installing my AMD adrenaline driver, Realtek audio driver & google chrome. is there any idea to fix this issue or it is a bug that occured in latest windows?. I've been recently getting a green screen of death. I was in the Windows Insider program so I had Windows 11. I've been attempting to freshly reinstall my windows, but it always redirects me to the blue startup repair screen when it's partially through. I've tried both the cloud reinstall options and the local reinstall one, but nothing seems to work. My hard drive is fine because I managed to open file explorer through command prompt and backup a lot of my files on external drives in case things went wrong. Does anyone know what might be wrong? It keeps redirecting me to the screen in the image. CPU: Intel i3-8100 GPU: NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1050 PSU: Seasonic s12ii 520W Bronze Motherboard: Gigabyte B360M-DS3H

I recently bought a new motherboard, CPU, and RAM, and upon installing them and attempting to boot for the first time, I got an error that simply said "Inaccessible Boot Device." Windows Recovery was useless, so I did some research and it seems like the only way to ensure a motherboard upgrade works smoothly is to reinstall. I suppose, then, I'm looking for advice on the best way to re-establish my system after a reinstall: restore files, reinstall programs, reset settings, etc. Current Specs: Windows 10 Home 64-bit Gigabyte GA-H97M-D3 (BIOS version F7) Intel Core i5-4690k (stock) 2x4 GB G.Skill Sniper Series 1600 MHz GTX 1080 EVGA SuperNOVA 750 B2 (750 W 80+ Bronze) Crucial MX500 1 TB SSD What I'd like to upgrade to: Same Asus PRIME B660M-A D4 Intel Core i5-12400F 2x8 GB G.Skill Ripjaws V (DDR4-3600) Same Same Same I had no idea this was a potential issue before I bought the hardware and don't really know what to do about it. Reinstall Windows, yes, but not the best way to backup everything for easy replacement. I have an external hard drive that's big enough, so that's not an issue. Should I just cough up the money for a pro version of something like AOMEI Backupper and use their dissimilar hardware restore feature? Does that have any downsides? This is a problem I've never had to solve before, so I'd be grateful for any advice.

TLDR; I just reset Windows 10 after a period of showing a black screen after startup due to a Gpu driver problem. But after the reinstall my laptop is constantly at 100% cpu usage but all of the processes at Task Manager reporting 0% usage, as well as constantly freezing a few mins after starting up. I been using my Dell inspiron 7559 (i5 6300/Gtx 960/8gb) running windows 10 for a long time until earlier this week where I can't use my Gpu in applications (but it still appeared in device manager although with a yellow triangle mark) I reinstalled the Nvidia drivers, but stupidly left the Integrated graphics disabled within device manager when I restarted. Starting a cycle of turning it on, just getting a black screen with just a loading symbol in the mouse- turning it off, and repeat. During the process of trying to fix it I've: Cleared the CMOS twice, Setting Bios to default settings, Rolling back windows updates in the windows recovery screen, Finally somehow gotten it to boot into safe mode- reinstated the integrated graphics, and finally fed up going with the nuclear option of resetting windows. With hard shutdowns after freezing/blackscreen throughout the process. (Tbh I think constantly turning it off was a bad idea, and caused further issues down the line) I think the constantly freezing on startup started after either rolling back windows updates or after getting into safe mode. After booting to safe mode to enable the iGPU I was able to get further in the startup process getting into the account selection but I was left with a forever looping Welcome screen upon logging in. Sometime in this stage I was able to Ctrl+alt+del open task manager and get into my windows desktop but it freeze as soon as I tried to do anything or by just waiting for a couple of mins. Right now I'm trying to backup all my drawings/documents and other files worth saving, incase of a full reinstall of Windows or full reformat of my boot ssd. I'm really hoping for solution so that it won't have to come to that. I'll appreciate all the help I can get. Thank you for listening and I'm eagerly waiting for your suggestion to my situation.

Quick question, is it absolutley nesissary to perform a clean install of Windows when changing core hardware? I will be migraing from x79 to B450 . . . . motherboard, cpu & memory. My system is very complex with multiple VM's, shared drives, virtual network devices, scripts, scheduled tasks, etc . . . . and the thought of having to restore it makes me sick. Is Windows smart enough in 2021 to detect the changes?

Hi all I'm reinstalling my PC but I have a tiered drive that I wanna keep. It's not my boot drive so I wont be fromatting it but since I have to uninstall the StoreMi program, I'm not sure how to proceed with that. I think I need to separate the tiered drive, then do a full uninstall of StoreMI, then go on with my pc reinstalling. Just asking to be sure! also wanted to know if the upgrade to FuzeDrive is free for Ryzen users, since AMD discontinued storeMi thanks!

It's a long story, but basically I have a laptop which had a Windows 10 + Linux dual boot on it, and after trying to delete Linus I broke the Windows side aswell as linux. I managed to reinstall Windows 10 via a USB stick on a different partition then the original Windows install was on. I'd like to move the windows install onto the OG Windows partition so I can keep all my apps that have all my preset options (would be an absolute pain to re-do everything). What this means is I can't just "reset and start over". I just want to move windows onto the other OS, could I just put the USB stick back into the Laptop and just select the old partition and install it that way? Would it delete all my previous files on that partition?

Hi, Today i have ordered a new ssd today as I didn't have one before and it was at a very good deal. So now I am thinking deeply. I am without a doubt certain on installing a new copy of windows and formatting the drive. My 'problem' is that I'm really not sure about if I should uninstall my windows on my hdd, and also my apps on my old windows, can I still put them on my home screen with my new ssd copy such as Google and ccleaner. Or would I have to reinstall then on my new ssd. Many thanks, Fire!

Hello! So I have recently created a bootable USB for Linux(Live CD) so I can install it to my hard drive(Ubuntu 18.04 to be exact). I am currently booted from it but the thing is I want to completely erase the hard drive before I install Linux to it , not only format it. In short words I want to nuke it before I install so I can start fresh. There is an option in the disks utility of Ubuntu that is called erase and that is selectable when you format a hard drive. Is that what I am looking for? Will that secure erase all data on the hard drive? I have selected it and this is how things look(image below). So do I need to run some command or something else after that or the hard drive will be erased and no traces of data will be left on it?

So I have to reinstall Windows, but I don't wanna lose any of my video games. I moved all my games over to other drives. I have a small case, the Lazer3D LZ7. The second M.2 is underneath the mobo, it's got 2tb of games on it, and it SUCKS to remove, I have to disassemble the whole PC. I also have an SSD that I can unplug easy. I went to the 'Reset your PC' option, because it said it'll let me keep data, BUT it said the process would uninstall every single game I have (5tb of games, and I have slow internet) even though none of those games are on the C drive. My question is, how do I reinstall Windows onto the C drive, without effecting the other M.2? I remember if I install from a disc, it let's you partition the drive, and then do a fresh install, but I want to make sure that way will keep the other M.2 intact. I don't want to do it, then find out my 2tb of steam games were deleted, that would take months for me to redownload. I can easily unplug the SSD so it won't be effected by the reinstall, but removing the other M.2 would require unbuilding and rebuilding the entire PC, TWICE and I really don't want to have to do that. What's the best way to reinstall Windows and keep my data, without having to disassemble the entire PC twice?

Hi! Today my PC had a pretty solid crash, everything hung up. After a cold boot the PC worked for 5-10 minutes before it hangs again, clicking the mouse results in a cheerful "doodoo" sound every time I click. Event log showed bad blocks on my drive and some errors I didn't recognize. My file explorer also loads the list of my drives very slowly. I tried a windows recovery, which failed. After it restarted the problem was gone, ah well. I now realise that the boot drive I'm using (Kingston SSDNow V300 120GB) is 7 years old and has never been reinstalled since the upgrade from W7 -> W10. My plan is therefore to get a new SSD with higher capacity (there always seems to sneak some files into C no matter how much you try to stop them), and install W10 on that with a USB boot stick. So here are my questions: 1. I am reasonably sure no programs will work after an OS reinstall, should I therefore uninstall any bigger programs before the reinstall, so I don't have to dig out program folders and delete those, or does this happen automatically during the installation process? These programs are all installed on other drives than the boot drives. 2. When the installation is done, will I get prompted to log in with my MS account? Gotta be sure that I've tested the credentials before I do this 3. Is there anything else I should keep in mind? This is a completely new build, it's only the drives that are transplanted from 2 earlier builds of mine (1NVME, 1SSD and 1HDD

Hey guys, I had a question that I can't seem to find a concrete answer to very easily. I'm thinking about upgrading my hardware soon - more specifically, changing my motherboard, CPU and RAM to something modern. What I'm not sure of is if I need to reinstall Windows 10 on my boot drive, and if so, whether I'll need to purchase a new copy of the OS along with the new hardware. I don't know if the operating system is tied to your hardware in any way, but if so then I will need to add the cost of a new copy of Windows to the budget here. More specifically, I'm upgrading from an AMD Fx 9590 on a Gigabyte GA-990FXA-UD3 R5 motherboard, to an Intel core i5 7600K on an as-of-yet undecided Z270 chipset motherboard. Please let me know whether I'm worrying about nothing, or if I need to spend an extra $100. Thanks!

So, recently, I decided to try and reinstall steam. To save my games by moving my steamapps folder onto my desktop. After I realized how long that would take, I decided to hit cancel on the transfer. In the short moment I did that, it looked like the cancel crashed rather than canceling the transfer (short white fade out like a not responding screen). I checked the file and it gave me a message that said something along the lines of "this file is not here now, it's somewhere else". I found the steam apps folder on my desktop (and it seems to be 405 gigs), so I think I might be able to replace my current steamapps folder instead of re-downloading all my games. Every time I move it, it says it's opened in another program(I did exit out of steam completely). Also, when I hit properties on it, the listed disk space has to count up to get to the 405 gig display. It just starts at 1 gig and starts counting up. Also my hdd says that I have about 100 gigs left, but ever since the little incident its display shows an almost full blue bar, but still says I have 100 gigs. The number shows what I would have if the steamapps on my desktop took up space, and the bar shows how much I would have if it didn't exist. I don't know if the steam apps folder is corrupt or something. I might be able to drag each game folder to my new steamapps folder from my old one, but I don't want to try that unless I know what will happen. As a side note, I went to check my programs and I uninstalled all of the games I lost because they had lost their icons (Looks like this). This was before I encountered the folder on my desktop as well.

Hi all, first time posting here long time viewer, i am having an issue with my laptop i need to reinstall windows on to the m2 ssd but does not appear during the windows installation stage where you can format the drive, it boots from the aforementioned ssd but is not visible in any of the settings. The laptop is this one https://www.amazon.co.uk/ASUS-GL752VM-GC010T-i7-6700HQ-1920x1080-GTX1060/dp/B01LZSQF4J/ref=sr_1_7?s=computers&ie=UTF8&qid=1492646334&sr=1-7&keywords=asus+rog. any help or advice would be appreciated it needs to be reinstalled due to some file corruption that keeps making it act strangely i just want to clean install the machine Cheers Druss

I'm thinking of purchasing a 250gb NVMe ssd (likely samsung 960 EVO), and running OS, select programs etc off the ssd and using the hdd for less mainstream stuff. My system's doing 520gb on my hdd already so porting is no-where near an option. Do you recommend clean installing windows or some funky backup solution to skip the redownloads? thanks all

I have a old dell next to me right now. Its a decent computer running windows 7 enterprise with some programs and such. Only problem is that I want to factory reset the PC so I have a clean version of windows 7. The system is a Dell Optiplex 960 (I believe it used to run Vista due to the sticker saying windows vista product key) but now it has Windows 7. I have tried on my own various things. And ive come here to ask you guys what I can do. Things I tried: Going to system recovery (After spamming F8 on startup) and looking for factory reset button, Found nothing. Looking at BIOS for a factory reset button. Don't know why it would be there but worth a try, Found nothing. Looking at system restore, Found nothing. Attempt to reinstall Windows 7 Enterprise using the product key, Was not able to get product key (I tried various programs but either got a bunch of B's or "Was not able to find product key"). Things I have not tried: Going to the advanced options of system recovery (Inside OS itself) and factory resetting from there. But i'm worried that it will ask for a product key + I don't have any windows 7 installation media at all (But I can easily source some in my own time). Any Ideas anyone?
