  1. Good day, Any information that may assist will highly be appreciated. I had a Windows Server 2003 installation on a device which was mistakenly upgraded to Windows 10 with the Custom Installation which overwrites all the presets, programs and data. Data Recovery software have worked well in previous situations but I have never tested for situations such as this one. My question; is there any procedure or software that may help reinstate the previous OS with the software and data that was initially available? Note that the previous setup lacked any backups or restoration configurations whatsoever. Please advise... Warm regards, Haron Mumuli.
  2. I would love nothing more in this world to mod an up and coming build to throw up a splash page of my choosing when the wrong password is entered too many times in windows. I know that changing registry values allows you to alter things like the default background and startup/login sound in previous versions of windows. Would it be possible to do this sort of thing or possibly link an event trigger to the brute force protection? Google fu has been failing me in my research when I look for this sort of thing because of all the people googling "How to brute force". Would love any incite into this or links to articles!
  3. Hey all first post, So I do some torenting one night on my custom win 10 pro PC and I'm guessing my system restarted for some reason. After that my wan adapter stopped working. I tried an old adapter I had and that didn't work either. I tried all the common stuff, adjusting the adapter settings, uninstalling the drivers and restarting. My access point works fine too. I just installed Windows on another drive and now it works. I read online it could be a registry issue, any chance I can fix it? I can start over on a new I installation I just really don't want to...
  4. Hello everyone. first of all, i know I'm an idiot who deleting registry without read the info but can anyone help me I accidentally deleted upperfilter and lowerfilter from this registry HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\Class\{4D36E966-E325-11CE-BFC1-08002BE10318 And boom, my laptop getting bluescreen and cannot automatically repair Btw my laptop are lenovo and windows 10 can someone help me to fix this without fresh install ? I've try recovery but always getting some error Or i should go to safe mode and try recovery from there ? Or are there any ways to fix this issues? Pleaseee, help me.
  5. Hi! Its been a hot minute since i've been active on here but since i remember it to have been so helpfull last time, i thought i'll try again! So here's my situation: My boot-SSD crapped out on me and i cant use it as a boot-drive anymore. So i thought i'd put said SSD in my new PC as a secondary SSD. On my now main SSD i have win10 and on the crapped one i had another instance of win10 aswell. Now, i have a lot of programs and data on the old SSD that i cant just re-install on my new SSD bc then some of the data would be lost (music projects etc). Smart little me thought why not just run the exe on my old SSD and see if the program runs? And surprisingly enough with steam that worked very well. It said the first time that it couldnt run properly because some data was missing (.dll stuff mainly) and it repaired itself and now it works like a charm. I didnt have as much luck with other applications like itunes, cubase etc. Those just showed the error but they didnt repair themself. Now how can i make it that those registry-entries go onto my main boot-drive so that i can run those programs properly again? I guess it cant be too hard since steam did it itself in like 2 seconds^^ btw my old SSD is now D: my new one is C: and the storage drive is F: i'm running win10 home, an HP compaq elite 8300 i7-3770 and yeah.... Thanks 4 helping!
  6. Hi Linus, Hope you doing great, We watched your hacked Nvidia driver video based on the P106 and ordered that. After arriving I just had the ivy bridge I5 3470 processor with Intel Motherboard to work with and tried all sorts of installation process which are Russian, American Also But Could not get this working and found out its not gonna work with IVY Bridge Processors. BUT WE EVENTUALLY STARTED PUBG and THIS IS ONLY GAME WHICH USES THE P106 WITH FULL POTENTIAL FOR SOME REASON DON't Know WHY Its working perfectly. EVEN if I remove the Intel HD GRAPhics And with the standalone P106 Display Driver It runs with full potential and Tried different methods hoping to get other games to be working but our luck is not with us. Since I'm Managed to check some windows debugging tools to check the game process using which REGistry Key to initiate the P106 Driver and Tweaked some Registry Keys. Still its not working. Could YOU PLEAse test this with IVY Bridge to test and FIGURE's out the solution for THIS . Its a humble request IF you can Help us and save our lives LOL. I Mean you really a true hero of Modern Technologies. Here is the link of the tool that I used to Check the Registry keys and process tree of the Game running https://docs.microsoft.com/en-us/sysinternals/ and download the Process Monitor which is called Procmon.exe and please Try to get this working on IVY bridge. I will really appreciate this. Best Regards, Man of the Year

    Need A Script !!

I just spent a day assigning registry rights, one at a time, in order to delete some keys that were preventing the USB from initializing on my brother's pc. Of course i just wanted to reinstall and start again but didnt really want to deal with redownloading all his stuff. I got it working in the end, but got me thinking that someone out there has made an easier and much less tedious way of assigning ownership of a bunch of regkeys to the admin, and then deleting them while also enumerating all the subkeys. It was fucking torture, i would get to the last key in the section, give myself ownership, and then 30 more subkeys appear inside it !!!! Has anyone found a way to make this easier ?
  8. After running Win10Privacy on a clean install, like I always to, I forgot to uncheck the option that disables the thumbnail cache. Now I cant seem to get it to work again. Ive tried all the windows explorer options and registry hacks that google could find but nothing works. My only guess is to do something with the registry, but Im not sure how to do that. Ive attached the log of what it did, so hopefully you guys can help me reverse it. W10Privacy.log
  9. I have a wonderful pc that works very well until one day half of the programs I use won't respond I can't install anything resetting windows won't fix it and sfc /scannow gives me "Windows Resource Protection found corrupt files but was unable to fix some of them. Details are included in the CBS.Log windir\Logs\CBS\CBS.log. For example C:\Windows\Logs\CBS\CBS.log. Note that logging is currently not supported in offline servicing scenarios." For the love of god someone help me... I've tried everything but the scams for cleaning registry and at this point just scam me already and put me out of my misery... but all things seriously I can't do anything without it crashing when I start a game the pc restarts that's if I can get into the game without the program not responding any ideas????
  10. So I've been experiencing crashes on my PC. What do you make of this? Should I start the repair?
  11. okay so i got windows 10 home ik i screwed but whatever i used a work around and moved grouppolicy folders and installed gpedit and i can open and look but search is missing and the admin templates are grayed out, so am i an idiot or am i just missing something simple? im by no means a tech guru or wizard but im not a absolute moron either, im running out of ideas and material to google, any help would be appreciated im just trying to disable useless windows 10 features id rather not have drawing power. Templates are already added when i started (conf, inetres, system, wmplayer, wuau)
  12. So there are plenty of reasons to hate on windows, especially the way they are aggressively pushing their products. And it’s sad! Windows can be such a powerful tool for people that produce things! Please, if you want to hate on windows, make another topic called “Why you don’t use windows” and post there. I just want this topic to be about the positive aspects of Windows that get overlooked by the average user. Like I said, there are PLENTY of reasons to hate windows and that's fine; just keep things civil. Also, if you know of any useful programs that extend the windows shell, or tools that make cool registry hacks, please post them! I know some of you may feel editing the windows registry is sketchy, and this is justifiable to some extent; but it’s not a big deal if you pay attention. The windows registry is just Windows’ settings broken into a series of “hives”. Always backup your registry before making edits. And if possible, look at what is being changed before running a .reg file. The Windows registry is actually far more efficient than people would have you believe. Also, avoid using “registry cleaning software” unless something is genuinely wrong (even CCleaner). They generally remove more than they should and cause more problems than they fix. Reducing the size of your registry doesn’t have as much of an effect as you think. Folder Icons I love things like Plex when I want to watch movies in my living room, or on an iPad. But if I have access to a PC, I would rather use MPC (lets be real, plex sh!*s the bed anytime there is even a tiny amount of corruption in a file...and when there isn't any). But the best part of Plex is scrolling through Movie Posters and having media information pulled from the internet! Well, just look at my media library: I don’t need anything but windows to browse my Movies/TV Shows. And if I want to search for a movie by actor/actress, genre, etc…I just use windows search because I tag all my media files using MetaX (see useful programs below). The best part is, if I have access to my media server, this will work on pretty much any version of Windows since it done with a uniform “desktop.ini” file: [ViewState] Mode= Vid= FolderType=Videos Logo=FolderIcon.ico [.ShellClassInfo] IconResource=FolderIcon.ico,0 Another benefit, it helps things like Plex find the correct meta information online. Useful Tools MetaX (http://www.danhinsley.com/metax/metax.html) – A POWERFUL video tagging tool with a great GUI (this product is worth the $10, trust me) Context Menus In my opinion, the windows context menu system is one of the most powerful tools at your disposal (when leveraged correctly). You see some programs take advantage of this, like 7-Zip. Right click on a zip file and you are presented with a whole new context menu just for handling compressed files. But have you ever created your own context menu? It can make your life a whole lot easier. Take my media library from an earlier example. It is actually somewhat complicated to add a movie to my library. I have to use MetaX to tag the movie and output the movie poster. Then I have to convert the poster to an icon, copy in my “desktop.ini” template, and make the folder a system file. So I created a context menu for “.jpg” files that calls a script that does all that for me. It only took a few minutes to code, but it saves me so much time: F:\Projects2\ConvertToIcon\ConvertToIcon.vbs: OPTION EXPLICIT CONST HIDDEN = 0 DIM shell SET shell = WScript.CreateObject("WScript.Shell") shell.Run "%comspec% /c F:\Projects2\ConvertToIcon\ConvertToIcon.bat """ & WScript.Arguments.Item(0) & """ > ""F:\Projects2\ConvertToIcon\log.txt""", HIDDEN, FALSE SET shell = NOTHING F:\Projects2\ConvertToIcon\ConvertToIcon.bat: @echo off echo Convert %~d1%~p1%~n1%~x1 to %~d1%~p1%~n1.ico echo convert file convert "%~d1%~p1%~n1%~x1" -matte -background none -resize 2048x2048^ -gravity Center -extent 2048x2048 -define icon:auto-resize "%~d1%~p1FolderIcon.ico" echo check if desktop.ini exists IF NOT EXIST "%~d1%~p1desktop.ini" echo F| xcopy "M:\_Template\desktop.ini" "%~d1%~p1desktop.ini" /H /K set PARENTFOLDER=%~d1%~p1 IF %PARENTFOLDER:~-1%==\ SET PARENTFOLDER=%PARENTFOLDER:~0,-1% echo make parent folder a system folder (%PARENTFOLDER%) attrib +S "%PARENTFOLDER%" /D echo make desktop.ini a hidden system file attrib +S +H "%~d1%~p1desktop.ini" :: If you are having to delete Thumbs.db every time, uncomment the following ::timeout 3 ::echo check if Thumbs.db exists ::IF EXIST "%~d1%~p1Thumbs.db" del /F /A:HS "%~d1%~p1Thumbs.db" echo Done. F:\Projects2\ConvertToIcon\ConvertToIcon.reg: Windows Registry Editor Version 5.00 [HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Classes\SystemFileAssociations\.jpg\shell\ConverttoIcon] @="Convert to Icon" [HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Classes\SystemFileAssociations\.jpg\shell\ConverttoIcon\command] @="wscript.exe \"F:\\Projects2\\ConvertToIcon\\ConvertToIcon.vbs\" \"%1\"" But let’s take an example from something I’ve seen Linus rant about: the “Up Directory” button while viewing search results. In Windows 10, if you open a directory from a search result then click the “Up Directory” button, it returns you to the search results page (even if you right click and open in a new window). It is the most infuriating thing in the history of mankind! So let’s fix it and add 3 new context menus entries: Right click a folder -> Open folder in a new window: Windows Registry Editor Version 5.00 [HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\Folder\shell\Open Target] @="Open Target in New Window" [HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\Folder\shell\Open Target\command] @="Explorer.exe \"%V\\\"" Right click the background of a folder -> Open its parent folder: Windows Registry Editor Version 5.00 [HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\Directory\Background\shell\Open Parent] @="Open &Parent" [HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\Directory\Background\shell\Open Parent\command] @="Explorer.exe \"%V\\..\\\"" Right click anything -> Open parent folder in a new window: Windows Registry Editor Version 5.00 [HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\*\shell\OpenTargetParentFolder] @="Open Target's Parent Folder" [HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\*\shell\OpenTargetParentFolder\command] @="Explorer.exe /select,\"%V\"" Boom! Problem Solved! A more advanced way to generate dynamic context menus. I don’t want to get too into this, but here is a great place to start: CppShellExtContextMenuHandler (https://code.msdn.microsoft.com/CppShellExtContextMenuHandl-410a709a). So let’s say you have media files that don’t have public meta information for MetaX to use, but you still want to tag things like actors/actresses, genre, etc…(let’s say you are naughty and have a lot of pr0n and want to make it easier to search ? I’m not saying I created a context menu for this reason…it’s just an example….don’t tell my mom). Now you can create an elaborate where you can tag media files easily, by generating menus based on things like folder path, existing tags on the file, recently used tags, etc… Really the limit is your imagination. Useful Tools Default Programs Editor (http://defaultprogramseditor.com/) – An amazing program that allows you to edit everything from file extension context menus (by extension and by class), to file extension icons/descriptions. One of the best programs available for creating/editing Windows context menus. ShellNewHandler (https://sourceforge.net/projects/shellnewhandler/) – A great program for clearing out your “New” context menu. Let’s be real, have you EVER used the context menu to create a new “Contact” file? No. No you have not. In fact, you’ve never used 90% of the other default options in that menu. So get rid of them and add some useful ones. ShellExView & ShMnView (http://www.nirsoft.net/utils/shexview.html) – Great tools for clearing out unwanted context menu items.
  13. I have Windows 10 Home on my laptop, I've gained full control over this registry key via SetACL on administrator cmd line. Yet, when I try to delete it it just gives me an "Error while deleting key". The key is possibly protected some other way by microshaft, I'm just at a loss and not sure what else to do. I'm just trying to lock down my Windows 10 as much as possible. Edit: Safe Mode does not work, while trying to delete this key.
  14. Does someone know methods of editing registry outside of windows or using non-Windows apps while in Windows? Backstory: I screwed up, wanted to install AutoCAD, which didn't detect installed .NET 4.5. I decided to reinstall it since it helped earlier, but everything went wrong when I realized that Visual Studio 2017 installed .NET 4.7, wrote about it in registry, but not in distribution panel. And now I'm not able to do a thing,,, Neither uninstalling VS 2017 (it requires .NET 4.5 to do this), nor deleting a registry path that exists when .NET 4.5 is installed. P. S. Reinstalling an OS is not an option since it's father's laptop (mine is coming soon unprepared, so i need a PC for university for a while), there are some programs, for which I do not have installers with me and process of finding them is a pain in the butt, plus I don't have a lot of free time for getting that thing to work properly... Just need to delete one directory to make that thing running, that's all.
  15. I tried a lot of different methods but only the on down below worked (don't worry i have compiled it to a file for you) note: you might need to restart explorer.exe for the change to take effect, to do so run this in cmd ' taskkill /f /im explorer.exe & start explorer.exe ' (without quotes) ENJOY! for anyone that wants to see how to do it for himself or even if you wanted to make your own version for any filetype https://superuser.com/a/1284919/937438
  16. Hello everyone! So I am testing some registry stuff (don't worry I have it all backed up), and was testing to change the CPU name in the specs that works even when restarting it. So I looked up some stuff on the web, and I found this to apply my registry : The processorNameString is the name i tried to give my cpu which is i7-6800K. Alright so what's wrong? You see, when I clicked to apply the registry it said that it's done, it was successful... But when I went into my PC specs it didn't change. Oh and about that stuff for keeping it "permanent", I read I could just create a shortcut of the registry and add it to the Startup on Windows so hoping that would work, but for now I need help on why the specs aren't changing. Thanks a lot!
  17. So basically i have a program, which i cant install or uninstall(doesnt exist anywhere). When i try to install it says that a newer version is already installed. So apparantly the solution is: Solution: I've found in the registry thread under HKEY_USERS where DaVinci installation info is stored and deleted it. Then everything worked as it should! So what does that solution mean? I haven't touched windows registry keys and i have no idea where they are located or what they do. So can someone explain how can i use that solution?
  18. Avast Antivirus and Reimage Repair say I have a ton of broken registries and "unstable programs". Lately, Windows has been crashing a lot. What should I do about this? I'm guessing a clean install of Windows is in order, but I'd rather leave that as a last resort. Any help is appreciated
  19. So I found a forum which no longer exists that allowed me to change a reg key in Windows 10 that fixed my GPU problems when gaming and streaming on the Same PC. Now I have recently Formatted my hard drive and reinstalled Win10 so this fix is gone. Was something about Windows 7 does not sync every frame and Windows 10 does. Pretty sure it was an NginX fix but worked with OBS as well. On my old PC which was an I7-4790K , 32GB, Asus Maxiumus Hero VII, Asus Strix GTX970, Corsair RM850i and WIN7, I could stream easily without any FPS issues. The New PC Starts lagging about 5 - 10 minutes into my stream. I notice my game FPS is fine but my OBS FPS dips to 13FPS which is what my viewers see. (was locked at 60FPS before). My new PC is I7-8700K, 32GB RAM, Asus Z370-H Strix Gaming Mobo, Hi100v2 Liquid cooler, RM850i Power Supply, and an Asus Strix GTX970. I also use 2 monitors First one is an Asus 144hz (VG248QE), second monitor is 60hz Samsung (P2770HD).The only difference is i used to Stream @ 720P (1280x720). Using H264 for the stream and Nvidia NVENC H264 for the recording. I stream @ 900P (1600x900) with 6000 bitrate and record @ 1080P(1920x1080) with 20000 bitrate. CPU Usage Preset = faster. Profile=High. Ive tried using new drivers, and old drivers with no change, Ive removed all Bloatware from WIN10, Ive disabled some of the WIN10 services that are not needed although i do remember when changing this reg key i changed it from a 3 to a 4 which would tell me its a service i disabled before but cannot remember what it was. Thank you for your time in advance.
  20. Hi All, Here is my setup: 1) HP EliteBook 8540 running win-7 1) TripleHead2Go Analog (herein referred to as T2GO) 3) HP e230t monitors I just purchased these 3 new monitors for my station at work. I hooked them up through the T2GO with VGA out of the Laptop. The display's were functioning and chose a lower resolution due to the inadequacy of the laptop's GPU. Everything was appearing on the screen, but it was all stretched horizontally. I think it was giving a 4:3 ratio to these 16:9 monitors. I opened the default "screen resolution" window and tried to dial it back a little in hopes that I could at least make the ratio correct. All of the screen went black and never came back. (laptop AND externals) I can't seem to find a solution to this Here are the things I've tried: Reboot No change Unplug VGA from Laptop Laptop Display works normally Monitors unplugged from T2GO, T2G0 plugged into Laptop Black screens all around One external monitor plugged directly into Laptop Works as expected. Now, I know that the change in resolution that I set is stored SOMEWHERE in the registry. What I want to do is remove it. I want the computer to essentially 'forget' that it ever saw the T2GO. I am familiar with the command prompt and Python 3 and am comfortable modifying registry keys. Can someone please help me figure out which keys these are and in what fashion they need to be altered? Thanks!
  21. -Bought and Installed paragon software HFS+ -Stopped working after the second day, just gave me error messages saying It restarted with errors. -Tried uninstalling and got an error 'Service 'apmwinsrv' could not be stopped. Verify you have sufficient privileges. -Tried multiple ways of trying to seeing if I could verify it somehow and nothing worked. So I resorted to just getting rid of the software. -Watched a video "how to uninstall programs in safe mode" and followed directions. Somehow I think it made it worse. - It doesn't stop to give the message midway through the uninstallation process anymore. It just speeds through everything super fast and nothing changes. The program is still on my computer. Update: It still pauses, but now it says sometimes that I need to be an administrator to uninstall.
  22. As said in the title, I edited the LogPixels value in the registry, to make windows scale smaller (from 96 dpi to 76), but to apply these changes i need a reboot, or a at least a logout and a login, but by doing that the value jumps immediately back up to 96. What could be causing it? Also, I tried custom resolutions, but I have a laptop that has the display of the laptop itself connected to the the hd graphics (5500, i3 5005u), so I cannot set custom resolutions in the nVidia control panel, and Intel hd graphics control panel won't let me do it, slapping me with a "custom resolution exceeds maximum bandwidth", even when the resolution is smaller that the native 1366*768 (yes I checked and tried every single frequency setting from 15 to 60 hz). Any Ideas on how can i make windows scale smaller without connecting an external 6 billion K 240hz million dollar display? The laptop is an Acer Aspire E5 573G with a GeForce 920m, 4GB ram and an i3 5005u.
  23. Hi everyone, I recently installed Windows 10 on an SSD and have an HDD for extra storage. My question is if I can change the location of installing applications such as google Chrome? I really want my SSD to only store Windows 10. I know some users have tried changing the drive letter in the registry but I don't know if it's safe. I also heard of people using symbolic links. I look forward to your responses. Thanks!
  24. I want a software that opens a .reg file and says what it edits before I use it on my windows registry, I don't really want to be screwed..does anything like that exist?
  25. So I started a similar topic on TH but then I realized this is probably a better place to ask. I am trying to install Sims 3 on a VM for my niece (last time she had access to my pc for an extended period I got malware). The problem is that Sims 3 checks your gpu for compatability and if it isnt listed in the games gpu list then you have to add it manually. The problem is that when running a VM the virtual gpu obviously isnt on the list of supported gpus and it adding it is very hard since every manufacturer has custom made rules for their gpus. I tried tinkering and converting the rules from other manufacturers to get the virtual GPU to work but to no avail. The thing is that the game tries to set video settings to suit the gpu (which you later can change), but if it isnt recognized it wont even give you the chance to set the settings. (EA.. pls...) I got the idea that if I could change the VM gpu information in the registry to have identical information to say an nvidia 460, the game would start propperly. The thing is tho I dont really know how where to start, I need the dxdiag to output identical display info as it would with a supported gpu. I am running windows 10, I would switch to linux and make it easier on me but I cant because of adobe. Worst case scenario I might have to dualboot linux and then through that run a VM with a gpu passthrough with AMD and Nvidia at the same time (the only 2 gpus I own, sadly fx8350 doesn't intergrated graphics). Lastly; is there any possibility to create a virtual device that would mimic a gpu just cosmetically? As in only look as if a gpu is connected so that Sims can let the game launch? Thanks in advance, 1k cookie points to whoever solves this.
