VM machine posted on a Video on YouTube Linus posted a while back that Emulates multiple VMs with the MB hardware. I need to find it ASAP. I am wanting to train a customer on this so they can move away from their old unreliable legacy hardware and free up space in their office. I tried looking up the video myself but i cannot seem to find it. If anyone knows of the emulation / VM software they used. It would greatly appreciated help my quest to help my current customer clean up their office with legacy hardware. -
hello everyone, i was wondering if there was something i could do to make my 5700xt quieter while at idle is there a specific bios that i can flash which works on the reference board or an even easier way to do it?

I am planning on having a 1440p or 4k monitor with above 60 hz and lower than 144. I am trying to lower the price as much as I can (Trying to get down to the $800), but if I have to I can go up to $1000. I would like so recommendations on the parts list I have put together, other parts that would be cheaper and better, and I am willing to ask any questions.

Hey guys, I just wanted to know if it would be better to get a Founder's Edition GTX 1080 or an aftermarket (maybe EVGA) cooler for my Fractal Design Define R4. I have the windowed version and I only still have the 2 case fans that came with the case. I also would like to point out that while it has only happened a single time in the past 3ish years that I've had this computer, I HAVE gotten a BSOD once from my CPU overheating. Granted, this was on a hot day and I was gaming for quite awhile, I do believe my open air GTX 970 definitely added to the BSOD. As for some additional quick info, the reason I want a 1080 now over my current 970 is because I have a 144Hz monitor and most current games I play don't even come close to hitting 144 FPS so i don't feel like I'm getting a ton of use out of a 200+ dollar monitor that I paid for, that and the GTX 1080 recently went down in price because the 1080 Ti came out. -
So the good people at legitreviews got their hands on some leaked pictures of AMD's upcoming high end graphics card, called AMD RX Vega. The pictures shows a movie playing on a laptop, showing the reference design of the upcoming card(s). It's quite interesting to see a white backplate. I wonder if that is going to be the standard, or if there will be a black version too. Either way, it has the Vega logo on it, which looks quite nice. All in all, it seems to use the reference design made for Fury back in the days with a more elaborate backplate. I've always liked the new reference design, as it's very minimalistic and clean looking. However, I do hope the actual cooling improves, as well as better noise levels. Blower style is great for overall temps inside a case, especially ITX cases, so having a high quality blower fan/heatsink is very welcome. As long as the VRM are top notch too. I'm not too sure about the white backplate though. Seems to clash quite a bit with.. well everything.

I've watched linus' video on reference vs non-reference, but that video covered internal case temps and not the cards themselves. I am going to buy a 1080ti when they become available, and I 100% plan on doing SLI within a few months (staggering the purchase of the 2 cards is easier on my wallet), but i'm not sure whether I should get reference cards and OC them, or stick with the normal non-reference solutions (I LOVE my gigabyte windforce 970s). I have seen some people giving their hypothesis on blower vs non-blower, but i've yet to find someone with actual data and temp benchmarks. Anyone with better google-fu than I wanna help me out? For reference (ha, pun), I have a HAF 932 adv case with a nice big 230mm side fan, which has helped a ton in cooling my current non-reference 970s in SLI, but i've been thinking about moving to a new case (i've got my eye on maybe the corsair Air 740), and don't want to be forced away from a glass side panel due to needing the side fan due to my SLI temps. EDIT: I should also mention, my goal is performance over anything else. I don't want to hit throttle temperature on the top card, but i also don't want to have lower clock speeds by going reference if temp isn't a factor after all. -
Hi guys! I'm building a mini-itx build with a Fractal Nano S and an AMD 480 8gb. This is my first mini-itx build so i probably made a mistake, i bought the Msi 480 Gaming X wich seems to be one of the best aftermarket you can buy in terms of temp and db "silence fanatic here"...but not in a case of this format. From what i can online and in this video "min7:45" a blower card should be much better in terms of temp and noise "considering that the card will be at 1cm or less from the psu with one fan almost blocked, i have the same case of the guy in the video", and also cheaper. On the other hand i recived a lot of bad review of the 480reference heatsink. Maube even if a blower style would be better, an aftermaket like the msi is still the best choice ?

so the problem is my i7 4770 with a reference fan cooling unit that i have been using for 3? maybe 4 years and recently, it has been quite loud. i didnt care about fan speed before so i dont remember the previous rpms but currently, i am having a 1120 idle(triple checked). and it is super loud. of course i clean dust and stuff regularly and my gpu is a 960 with the not spinning when cool fan thing so it is certain that the cpu cooler is that loud. so tl;dr loud cpu fan what to do?(before suggesting replacing it because i upgraded my xps and the by the looks of it, i'm gonna have a hard time replacing the fan) oh and by the way does the remember me dont work only for me on this site?

im bad at coming up w/ titles , but i noticed this on my reference 290 and my Titan X cooler i have sitting here , they all have tapped holes in the end (pic from a gamers nexus video where i saw it too ) does anyone know what those are for ?

Hey guys, I recently grabbed a second hand 290x (reference design) to use for a mining rig and its sitting at 90 degrees with the stock profile so I have to crank the fan on it which makes it super loud. I was wondering if there was a way to mount a cpu watercooler to it and have some heatsinks on the VRMS with a small fan on it? I know theres things like the Corsair HG10 and the NZXT Kraken g12 but I was trying to do this for as cheap as possible. Any suggestions would be appreciated. TIA

Hello guys, I was wondering what the actual observed clocks for the core were on a reference gtx 970 after thermals plateau. I'm looking for this information because I want to know how much more performance I'm getting over reference design as I have the EVGA ACX 2.0 version of it. The reason why I'm asking this is GPU boost pushes the card past what the advertised boost clocks are, those are minimums in fact I think. For example mine has a boost of 1317 in GPU-Z but reaches and stays at 1366 in real applications. Now this is a 50 MHz offset which I could assume is what reference cards do but I may be wrong since those hit 80+ C whereas mine never exceeds that. If anyone has the card I'm talking about can you please tell me what your clocks stabilize at/ what range you observe in-game? Thanks

So I recently picked up a GTX 1080. The cooling is terrible, thermal throttling 150 to 250 mHz. It's a PNY cooler on a reference board. The thermal pads on the VRM and V-RAM actually just connect to the plastic shroud that holds the cooler vs. any part of the actual cooler itself. Does anyone have any experience with the EVGA Hybrid cooler or the ARCTIC Accelero IV? I've searched for any comparos, write ups, or videos that would pertain to these aftermarket cooling solutions and have come up dry. Any advice from anyone with any experience with either solution would be appreciated. INB4 buy a card with a better cooling solution. I think someone messed up and listed it wrong last weekend. Picked it up new in box on Amazon for $425. So even if I have to buy a cooling solution, I'm still ahead of the curve cost-wise.

so I was on zotacs website (im scouting out a possible graphics card was looking at the amp extreme or and Asus strix 1070), and I saw a reference card branded under zotacs name? what is the difference? is it essentially the same card but with higher quality components?

I have a reference RX480 down to around 60-65 C and i want to overclock for a performance boost. I looked at an overclocking tutorial for NZXT CAM and I dont know what happenes when my gpu crashes. When does a GPU crash and what happens?

Just out of curiosity, would it be possible to take a founders edition card like for example the 1070 and place an aftermarket cooler that shares the reference PCB? Something like the EVGA SC cooler which has the same PCB as the founders.

I have an EVGA FTW GTX 970. I am completely new to BIOS flashing and probably already know the answer to the question I'm about to ask but I'm going to ask it anyway way to avoid bricking my card. Would putting a bios from the default Nvidia blower style GTX 970 on the EVGA FTW GTX 970 do any harm(I can't see how it could)? Can I use the card normally with this BIOS?

Watching recently an old video from linus tech tips I felt the need to make a topic about how useless overclocking a graphics card is..... As you can see in the video (and in any video out there about OCing and playing games) the difference between the reference design and the top of the top classified design in games is like 3 FPS... even if you overclock the classified design the difference with the stock reference design wont be more than like ~10 FPS... and thats without mentioning that the reference design can be OCed as well and so the already small gap between the reference design and the "SUPER OC CUSTOM PCB" design shrinks even more.... So why to encourage people buy those stupid money wasters? getting 70 FPS instead of 66 FPS in a games is like a ZERO practical difference on your everyday gaming.... OC in cards got to become a price changer because of how things used to be in the past.... I remember when I had my Geforce 4200 ti and OCed games that I previously struggled to play with (because they run at lets say 20-25 FPS) after the OC run smooth on a solid 40+ FPS!!!! and yea that was a gain babe!!! and OC became a thing... Games used to be more clock speed bound back then... But today OC is just an illusion.... the reference model has a very good frame rate for all the games of its generation and the super duper custom PCB models from any brand offer only a 1 to 5 FPS difference.. but asking atleast 100$ more than the reference.... Its just a marketing gig nowadays and we shouldn't support it. Also linus should take the heat and make a video declaring that OC is just a nice market for those that just are into benchmark competitions and that for all the gamers out there it doesnt mean anything anymore. =================================================== EDIT: To avoid misunderstanding by "reference" I mean the basic model without OC and without any extra labaling on the box like "SC/OC/FTW" etc It doesnt have to be the stock cooler design from nvidia it only has to cost as much as the stock nvidia offer.

Hello all, I am attempting to locate some reference material for cross-compatible LCD screens for my Sony XBR65X900E that... well... I cracked the panel of. What I'm specifically looking for is whether or not previous (older) models of the X900 series of Sony Televisions are forwards compatible with my X900E hardware/mounting (boards, etc.). Maybe even other manufacturers like Samsung or LG. What I'm trying to do is broaden my "net" (that is, if other model LCD screens themselves are use-able) so that I can cast a larger one when looking for a replacement screen for my broken TV. I do know how to swap out these parts and have a general working knowledge of electronics repair on a "weekend warrior" basis. I just don't know how to get a hold of any reference material. I went to several of Sony's "affiliated" websites and all I get in my responses are these kind of non-sequitur off-topic responses. Not directly denying access, but some kind of obfuscation... maybe they don't like "Right to Repair"? I don't know. So help me, if one can. Or even wants to.

Looking at the Silverstone ld01 case(inverted) and wondering if having 2 140 mm fans aimed at the bottom(would be top in this case) of a reference card(vega 64 in this scenario) would help with cooling at all?

Hi Guys, Is anyone aware of a database of which 3090s will use what PCB type? i ask because I would like to grab a waterblock day 1. EKWB has a block but only for Reference PCBs. Now the question is, what is a reference PCB? Hi I recently picked up a Vega 56 and after using it for several hours I noticed a faint buzzing noise it mainly happens when im playing games like rust or just cause 3-4 my psu is a thermaltake smart RGB 700w which should be enough. before I had the vega I had a gtx 980 which didn't put any load on the psu at all. I was told my psu was good quality so im not sure what it could be. Or is it a typical thing with reference cards. I can try and upload a clip of it. It's quite but you can hear it

I am in the middle of a build but wondering before I get married to a GPU, is a regular reference model GTX 1080ti worth getting to save a few bucks for comparable performance to a non reference card? I am going to be doing a little overclocking. Here is my current part list.
