Hi everyone, I'm considering upgrading my audio setup, which is a TV speaker, I'm looking for a balanced opinion, because if I ask on Reddit I know the answer depends on a sub I post in After doing some research I narrowed it down to two options: A) Samsung HW-Q930C soundbar B) Denon AVR-S660H receiver + pair of ELAC Debut 2.0 B5.2 speakers A is a bit more expensive than B, but less than any upgrade to B. My issue is that I cannot set up wired satellite speakers permanently and won't be able probably for 10+ years. So my thinking was: A.1) get the soundbar and put the satellite speakers as extended front channels and move them to the orange spots (left) when I want to watch a more demanding movie A.2) get the soundbar and put the satellite speakers in the yellow spots behind the table (right) B) get 2 LR speakers and an AV receiver set them up in front, and then upgrade them with a center channel/subwoofer as I see fit and give up the surround sound Additional info: I live in the apartment, but I do not have any neighbors apart from the floor below (and I live in the EU so we have more of a solid type of walls and building in general so should help with sound isolation). But I won't be able to blast volume so this is not a huge consideration. I do not listen to music that much in the living room, I plan to have a separate setup for that in my office in the future, but I guess this might change when I have a better setup? I guess my main question or concern is how much I'm giving up in terms of surround sound when watching movies by going to 2.0/2.1/3.0/3.1 compared to a Dolby Atmos soundbar. I'm aware that with the soundbar I won't get bang for my buck and I give up upgradability. I'm leaning towards option B with the receiver, but want to be sure what I give up. Thanks, everyone!

Denon AVR-2105 Surround Sound Receiver Isnt Fully Working
snozking posted a topic in Troubleshooting
Hello, ive been given a Denon AVR-2105 Surround Sound Receiver. I was told it was "pulled by the cord out of the wall" and when it was plugged in again it stopped working. The relays inside click in sequence and then the last one turns it off and an orange flashing light displays (i read it means internal error). you can watch the video attatched. i was thinking maybe a fuse on the certain function(?) i am opening it for visual inspection now. any help diagnosing the issue would be thankful. 20231127_122124.mp4 -
Okay. So I currently have it set up as PC to Receiver with HDMi and PC to TV with HDMI. The default device can only be set up in stereo and able to get sound and through the receivers speakers. There is a another with the same name able to be set up as 5.1 surround sound but unable to get sound from it. I can't figure out why there is no sound for this option There is no lag with mouse or keyboard. I have connected from PC to receiver to TV and I am able to get the 5.1 surround sound. The default isn't separated in two options. I would use it this but there is lag with the mouse which can be infuriating and becomes worse if I'm trying to casual game on it. I do have the TV set up normally with it connect to the receiver via HDMI on ARC. Could this affect it? I have unplugged the TV completely front the receiver and put the PC in the number 1 slot. It comes up as the receiver and the TV for sound but only getting sound from the TV speakers and not from the receiver. I've also used an optical cable and I have the same issue. I've looked for updated drivers and everything is up to date from my understanding. It's still very baffling.

Thank you in advance for your help. I was looking to get a JBL Charge 4 for my dad's boat but he would like to have local radio on it as well. I figured a small radio receiver with a 3.5mm aux would be best but I don't see any options like this and there isn't much info on this type of setup. I understand not many people want local radio anymore. I found this Sony Dual Band FM/AM Analog Portable Battery Radio Home Audio Radio Black (ICF-19) on Amazon and think this would work. What is the best way to add radio to a Bluetooth speaker?

I just need a bit of a sense check here. i bought a Logitech G915 keyboard, and I love it. i recently started wondering what happens if I damage/lose the receiver. I assumed it would be a simple case of buying a new one, so off I went to the Logitech store. Nothing. Weird. So I checked Amazon and found one listing on .com, A receiver on Aliexpress, but nothing in Europe. So I contact support and got this: Can it be that Logitech ship its most expensive products without catering for spare parts? Am I the only person that finds this kinda strange.. or is this just normal.. that when a $2 usb receiver borks, it renders a $230 keyboard useless? Surely this is a good one for @LinusTech to poke a litte.

Like in the titel my Receiver for my 5.1 surround system is shown as a monitor. Audio is working perfectly fine. I have rtx 3080 Gigabyte Eagle OC. I run two displays of which one is a Ultrawide Montior 2560x1080 which was connected to the receiver at one point but now i just use two HDMI cables. One to connect my pc to the receiver and one to connect my pc to the monitor since otherwise i dont get ultrawide signal. Is there a way to make it so that the receiver is only perceived as audio output not as a display ? The Receiver Modell: Denon AVR-SH760H.

I’m getting back into home theater setups and considering buying a 4K tv. The only rub is that my receiver is a Onkyo HT-S3500 5.1-Channel. I can’t tell if it support 4K TVs or not, I don’t think it does. But trying to confirm. With that being said, does anyone have a direct recommendations for a more modern receiver that is comparable to my existing Onkyo? Thank you!

Hello I'm thinking of picking up this complete set up for a home theater setup (https://www.amazon.ca/dp/B01FWRZR94?tag=camelcasearches-20&linkCode=ogi&th=1&language=en_CA) I can save a bit of money buying the package then buying them separately. Each speaker seems to be rated for 100-145watts max. And I've been looking around for some receivers, I know some people recommend going with a system were I get a pre-amp, amp, etc. But I'd rather just 1 box that can do it all. I found this one on amazon and took a look at some reviews, I love all the features and would be happy paying the price for it, (Granted I would get it probably on sale) (https://www.amazon.ca/Sony-STRDH790-Multi-Channel-Bluetooth-Component/dp/B079YW5VQL/ref=sr_1_2?dchild=1&keywords=STR-DH790&qid=1619405813&sr=8-2) A lot of reviews said it would run at 90 watts continuous, with 145watts peak. That sounds great, I'm sure the speakers would sound great at 90 watts continuous, probably loud?? (I'm new to this and not sure if that is really loud or just normal listening volume) MY MAIN QUESTION: The reviews also said that the receiver will do 90 watts, 2 channel driven. Well, that means my other speakers, center, rear, and top. Would not be getting enough power, right? The subwoofer is powered, so I Wouldn't have to worry about that, but wouldn't only 2 channels driven at 90 watts cause my other speakers to be very low in volume? I plan to also enable Dolby Atmos if that helps any! Thank you so much for any of all information!

I am having a hard time getting my Sony XBR75X900H TV to send or receive a signal to my Sony DA5800ES Receiver. I don't know if this is because the 2 are just not compatible, or if it is the 60 feet between the 2, and or the cat 6 extender i am trying to use. This was a project i started in 2013 when the house was being remodeled and was down to the studs. I was going for a control4 controlled system that i was going to diy and they come in and program everything. I was told to wire every room with 2 cat5/6 and 1 coax, did that and once construction was complete (~1year later) they where out of business. So up until now all i did is cast music to it. Now after seeing Linus's theater room i thought i give it another go to no avail. Can some one please help me by telling me what i am doing wrong or what i need to buy to make it work.

Audio is the part of my setup that I struggle with most. It seems like there just isn't THE solution for me. My use case is fairly simple. No streaming or anything. I work from home on my computer. I need to make calls over Teams sporadically during the day and otherwise I like listening to music through my speakers. In my freetime I enjoy some gaming where I mostly use my headset for sound. Recently I bought myself the EPOS GSX 1000 Dac, which solved so many of my problems. Now I finally have an easy way to switch from my headset to my speakers without messing with the windows audio sources (I'm not going back to that hell). For Windows, there exists only one audio playback and one microphone. Both are my DAC. On the DAC I can store presets for swithing to my gaming setup (headset with 7.1 surround enabled), speaker setup or my phone call setup (headset with stereo audio). All with the press of a button. Beautiful! But now there is a new downside. Sometimes, using a wireless headset would be ideal. Before using the DAC I had a wireless Steelseries Arctic 7 (the software and firmware was absolute garbage but it had a dedicated receiver, which was nice). But now there is no way to use a wireless Headset with my DAC. I'd need some kind of audio receiver that splits into audio input and microphone signal (see picture). But even if I could find something like that... and a headset that works fine with it. That's a lot of converting from analog to digital. Coupled with the inherit delay that wireless could cause, I don't really see that as an option. I could of course connect a wireless headset separately to my computer but that would mean messing with windows audio sources again (please no). I realise that this is more of a rant than a question but I'm really looking more for inspiration than a cold hard fact. If somebody is as picky as I am and has found a solution to this, I would highly appreciate it. Otherwise just thanks for reading Cheers.

What's the best receiver to use for Sony xplod 12inch car speakers?? I'm going to use my laptop for music at a party but want to use what I have instead of spending more money than needed. I have 2 Sony Xplod 12inch sub speakers from an old car I got rid of and want to out them to use at home or for outdoor parties. I know I need the receiver for power in place of the amp, but how much power will the speakers need? I'm thinking 2400watts because they're 1200w a piece but not sure.

So, I've got my new-ish Atmos receiver (5.1.2) plugged into my 1080ti on my PC via HDMI, and I just use it to run audio. I use the display port for my display. I used to generally use the aforementioned app to run sound to the receiver (right click on the sound icon in the taskbar and select Speaker Setup) but then today I just selected 7.1 instead of "Dolby Atmos for home theater"; and I set the sound in the device sound properties to 24bit, 192Khz and I still get Atmos when I run an Atmos movie. The Atmos light still comes on on the receiver when I play an Atmos track. I find that without using the Dolby app I no longer get the annoying 2 second silence when I open, or even unpause, a movie. And the sound seems to be just as good. The sound used to also disappear sometimes using the "app" if I paused a movie for too long, and I'd randomly have to change some setting, and change it back for it to pick up the sound again. So is the app just (worse than) useless? Does it serve a different purpose, like for some different setup or something? (Besides them trying to get money from me for Atmos in headphones!) I do have 2 ceiling speakers, so am I now running 7.1 instead of 5.1.2? Or is the receiver just taking the signal and doing the proper "Atmos stuff" with it? Or am I correct in assuming that the receiver is doing the proper Atmos stuff through HDMI? It's pretty hard to find much information on receivers and PCs.. everybody who uses a PC seems to just use headphones or little desktop speakers!

The headphone jack of my phone went kaput, so I thought I'll get a Bluetooth receiver to listen to music from my phone. I wanted something along the lines of Sony SBH-20, but on half (or quarter) the budget. Nokia BH-111 is within that sweet price range, but it's not available anywhere. I think it's stock are done for good. (I'm in India btw) I've seen many generic bluetooth like this and this. The first one has no buttons, (and hence cheaper) while the second one has buttons (And they seem to look quite handy) but I'm really skeptic about their performance and longevity. Yes, I could buy bluetooth earphones itself, but I like my Mi Basic Earphones (Costed me 500 rupees, but the best band for buck) and I don't think any other earphones might come close to it. I strongly feel like the only earphones cheaper and better than Audio Technica CLR-100 would be these Mi earphones. Anyways, could you recommend me a solution for my problem?? Thanks in advance!

Hi All, I just bought the LG SJ9 soundbar and subwoofer system as part of my a/v upgrade path this year. The soundbar itself has 1 HDMI in and 1 HDMI out (with ARC), so now I'm trying to figure out if I need a receiver or not. I'm wondering if the receiver is necessary since the ports on the soundbar are limited. The TVs that I'm scoping out (LG 55SJ8000 or Samsung 55" MU9000) have plenty of HDMI inputs, but do not do have Dolby Atmos decoders (like the soundbar). I want to make sure I get the best audio quality, so I found the Sony STR-DN1080 and the Denon AVR-930H. Both have 2 HDMI outputs, but I think the Sony one can push audio through both. I guess my question boils down to whether or not a receiver can support audio going to the soundbar via HDMI and video going to the TV via HDMI or do I just suck it up and unplug and plug devices into the soundbar when I want to switch inputs? Thanks in advance, madsolar8582

Hey guys, So I recently acquired speakers for a 5.1 audio setup in my bedroom for my PC. I am using a Sherwood R-671 receiver to power all the speakers. I was going to use the Optical Out on my motherboard for the connection to my PC, but when I plug both ends in, the receiver doesn't read anything even connected to the other end. The laser in the cable is on, so I don't understand why the receiver isn't reading my PC. I have a ASUS Sabertooth Z97 Mark S motherboard. Is it possible that my motherboards Optical Out does not support 5.1 surround audio, and could this be fixed by buying a sound card with a Optical Out? Thanks.

Hey guys, I use a pair of Goldring NS-1000s with a 1/4 inch adapter to plug them into my Yamaha RXV381 AV receiver. They sound amazing when you use the speakers on their own, but when I plug my headphones in, they sound quiet and slightly distorted. Haven't tried playing music, but have used them to try to watch movies online and Fresh Prince on Netflix and it's the same result. What should I do? Is there something I'm missing?

Hey All, Am having a hell of time trying to find information about a Sony STR-VX6 receiver that I bought earlier today from Goodwill. $20, including speakers. WOOT! Anyways, I'm not an Audiophile, nor am not looking to become one heavily. Just wanted a nice receiver from yesteryear to hook up my cassette player to; listen to FM while working; and possibly add a turntable in the future. I know there are newer equipment out there, that may sound tons better but cost tons too. I just wanted something at a fair price, good quality and sound. That's why I was pretty stoked to find this gem, and in good condition to. Aside from dust. Anywho, being pretty tech savvy. I was able to figure out the majority of its features and the various functions/operations. However, despite my vigorous google search. I was unable to find a User Manual or any info pertaining to the bits of the receiver that I don't know about, or couldn't figure out. I've included some photos, in hopes that someone can better help me out. So here are my following questions. Front What is SUBSONIC? What does it do? What is LOUDNESS? What does it do? What is MM LOAD? What does it do? Back What is that black boomstick looking thing? What does it do? What antenna can I use? Right now the previous owner attached regular speaker wire for the antenna. What is that rake looking symbol located in the antenna area mean? I'm guessing Ground?... What is PRE/POWER? What does it do? And why is there jumpers connecting them? What does the descriptions mean for the AC OUTLET? (Switched 80W MAX, Unswitched 300W MAX) Thanks again for any help/info

I've been researching new home theater receivers lately because an old Panasonic one I was using bit the dust on it's digital input. I like the idea of having a receiver that supports Wake on Cast like my Android TV does. I see that a lot of Onkyo receivers and a couple of Sony receivers have Chromecast built-in, but what is unclear is if I need to keep the receiver powered on in order for Chromecast to work. EDIT: If it matters, my TV is a LeEco Super4 X43 Pro, which I think supports HDMI-CEC? I'm not sure.

So I'm in need of a good WiFi 802.11ac receiver for my desktop computer. The connection provided by the router is 500mbps so I will need a 802.11ac receiver in order to receive all the data. But which one to choose? I'm looking at the ASUS PCE-AC68 AC1900 (seeing in Linus channel some years ago). Maybe there is more option I'm not considering and you know works better or are cheaper for the same performance. Thanks beforehand!

I just recently bought an actual surround receiver for my PC to replace some very cheap Logitech surrounds. It seems that the only way to get audio out of the receiver is to have it enabled as a monitor, which I don't want. I have a 144hz monitor running through DVI, so having an "extra" monitor in the receiver is pretty useless, and every time I turn the receiver on/off it makes Windows freak out and reset my desktop. Is there any way around this, or is this just an annoyance I'll have to deal with? And on a side note, when I want to use headphones I have them plugged into the primary 3.5 audio out on the rear IO. When I want to switch to headphones I have to switch the windows default audio output, is there a way I'm missing to stream audio to both so I can just turn the receiver on/off?

So back in the mid 2000's (2004 according to the user manual) my dad picked up an Onkyo HT-R520 6.1 receiver. Fast forward a few years, it seemed to have some issues so we stopped using it, fast forward a few more years, I took it down off the shelf and decided to give it a look over. The original idea was that the speakers were blown (And 3 have been tossed.) It turns out it's got some weird problem I can't seem to diagnose. When initially turned on, there's either no sound at all or there's quiet crackling. I found out that cranking the volume up jerked the speakers to life for some reason, then turning them back down to reasonable levels they worked fine. Sometimes when first powered on there's no sound at all until I switch inputs to and fro then do the volume again. So after doing that bit of troubleshooting I decided that after 6 years on a dusty shelf it needed a cleaning, which I did using some contact cleaner spray on the boards and on the volume pot, but the issue is still there. Has anyone had anything like this happen? I just can't figure out why switching inputs and then cranking the volume makes it pop to life. All the listening modes and Dolby decodings work once sound is being output, and setting it to multi channel stereo tells me that all of the speaker outputs work (again, once sound is going.) Not sure if it really makes any difference, but since I only had 2 speakers I know that they can "turn on" individually, with one working properly and the other requiring the volume trick. If it was an issue with low volume, then why would it work normally after coming alive? After checking (nearly) all the inputs and confirming them working after being alive, then why require switching? Any help would be appreciated. The only thing I can think of is that I might need to really completely disassemble it and thoroughly clean each board, but, y'know, effort n such. I had taken apart and cleaned an old Sansui in the same fashion and that eliminated the crackling and it now works fine.

I'm currently looking at 4 different home theater receivers by Denon, Onkyo, and Yamaha. I need to have, at a minimum, 100 watts per channel and at least 7.2 channels. I need 4k HDR and importantly Dolby Vision compatibility. Update: I have 3 speakers that are 125 watts each. ---Specifically I'm asking about the quality of the DACs and Amplifiers in these receivers, and extra features.--- These are the 3 models: Priced at 600 dollars on amazon: Onkyo TX-NR777 (recently released) https://www.onkyousa.com/Products/model.php?m=TX-NR777&class=Receiver&source=prodClass Priced at 1000 dollars MSRP: Denon AVR-X3400H https://usa.denon.com/us/product/hometheater/receivers/avrx3400h Priced at 900 dollars on Amazon: Yamaha RX-A870 (recently released) https://usa.yamaha.com/products/audio_visual/av_receivers_amps/rx-a870_u/specs.html#product-tabs On sale for 899 on amazon: Denon AVR-X4300H https://usa.denon.com/us/product/hometheater/receivers/avrx4300h They all seem to have the specs I want, but I'm trying to decide between the 3. By the way, this is my current home theater set up for reference. I have (1) Klipsch RP-250C Center Channel Speaker, (3 pairs) Klipsch RB-51 II Black, (1) Klipsch R-10SW Reference powered subwoofer, (1) MartinLogan Dynamo 300 Home Theater and Stereo Subwoofer. ---Also does anyone know if or what the probability of any of these being upgradable to HDMI 2.1 next year is possible via firmware update?---
