Good Afternoon, I recently rebuilt my PC in a new case with new fans. I switched from 6 Corsair's HD fans to 9 Lian Li's Uni SL 120 fans. After the rebuild when I power my PC on it starts up, after a second or 2 it shuts off, and then boots normally. Could someone please advise what could be the problem and what I could try to fix it? Hey, today I rebuilt my computer in a new case, I also reapplied thermal paste since the one in the CPU was dry, but after that I am getting some weird issues on both Windows and Linux, after some time of using the pc the CPU Usage goes insanely high, audio gets choppy and the pc freezes, It's not overheating as the CPU is running at around 35 to 40 degrees when the audio gets choppy I notice on windows audiodg.exe CPU usage increases drastically, it's not an issue with audiodg as it will happen with discord, edge etc too, I have no idea what could be causing this, it's my first time assembling a pc, everything is correct, the only thing that is not plugged in is a fan because I am missing a fan header on my motherboard and a 2 pin FAN panel connector (for the rgb fans that my case doesn't come with) I changed the sata ports thinking it may be an issue with the sata connector but that didn't fix the issue, the drives work normally, I checked my ram, also fine, I don't know why my cpu would be affected by a simple case swap... I don't know what to do anymore...

What I am asking for is an assessment on if I should just scrap it and build a brand new rig, swap out some components, or maybe reconfigure or repair what I already have to get the most bang for the buck. Current components list is below. Thoughts, concerns, and recommendations are all appreciated. Thanks again LTT Forum Community! Budget & Location Ideal budget would be around 3.5k but am flexible if it makes sense. Best case scenario would be recommendations on just swapping components and using most of what I currently have. Of course I am trying to make the overall best decision regarding budget but am not afraid to spend a little more if its worth it. Admittedly, I have not been current with the community or PC building in general so I really have no idea what parts are good, current, or to be avoided. I know that GPUs are expensive and hard to find right now but that's about the extent of my current knowledge. Prices would best be listed in $USD. Thank you. Aim I use it as a general desktop but also some gaming when I have time and hopefully some streaming in the future. I play Skyrim, Witcher 3, etc. The best case scenario is I would really like to get it to be able to run "Star Citizen" but it can't in its current state (it is really laggy when I try to run it). Monitors ASUS VG278Q 27" Full HD 1080P 144Hz 1ms Eye Care G-Sync Compatible Adaptive Sync Gaming Monitor with DP HDMI DVI I am currently only running the one, but would like to be able to run two. Although, the onboard sound is a bit pathetic for how quiet it is. Why are you upgrading? Backstory: I build the majority of my current rig back in 2013 (using recommendations from this very forum). In 2019 I wanted to add a second GPU and get a "tune up" by a professional, when I did so I also had to upgrade to the current PSU because it wasn't supplying enough power to the existing rig and actually ended up damaging my SSD as a result, which I also replaced with the current one listed. Fast-forward to late 2020 / early 2021: I moved across country and I boxed up my rig pretty well and it was in a non-climate controlled storage unit for several months. When I finally got it out and set back up, there was some slight mold on the case but that was it. However, now it seems like it is running way too hot and will on occasion auto-restart because of a failure somewhere. I just had a new hard drive put into my seven-year-old system because the old one crashed. Windows 10 had to be reloaded along with all the drivers including my graphics card, ASUS Strix GTX970. For some reason, it keeps thinking that it is hot and cranks up the fan. It started with just slowly heating up, not right after i boot up, it reads 80+ degrees! The GPU Tweak is currently reading 87 degrees. It does not show that the card is cooling and the card does not feel hot. Anyone know what is going on? Is the driver messed up somehow? Thank you for any help!

Hey folks, New here and just wanted to have a discussion with you fine people about my current build and where I'm taking it. **AT THE MOMENT I WILL BE SKIPPING THE CURRENT GENERATION OF GPU's BEING RELEASED AS WE SPEAK** Key: * = to be upgraded Specs: Phanteks Enthoo Evolv X case in black (I don't plan on changing this case as I have zero issues with it, and if I did it would be for the white version) ASUS TUF B450m+ Gaming motherboard* AMD Ryzen 5 3600 MSI GeForce RTX 3070 Suprim X 8GB 1TB SSD* DeepCool GAMMAXX cooler* G.Skill Trident Z Neo 4x8GB 3200Mhz CL16 (*?) I am pretty confident in the roadmap so far as the 12GB 3080 will handle ultrawide very nicely and from my research I don't have too much cause for concern about CPU bottlenecking. I did this for fun but never thought to post it here, only posted it on a subreddit. It was a full rebuild to mint condition just for fun because I noticed it in Stargate SG1 while binge watching one weekend a long time ago. Took a while to get all the parts and housing pieces that were new old stock to rebuild it. Only parts I didn't replace was the motherboard, lcd, and dvd-rom drive. Then when it was finished finally, well the world drama started and I couldn't get it signed. But eventually a couple months ago I finally got it signed. It was a fun project, even managed to find some original video artwork used in the show that moves. Not exactly what I'd call retro hardware but getting close now days. It was a lot of fun, lot of shopping, and even plane rides and hotel stay involved. But meh I'm a geek, so it's just all in a days work. I am the proud owner of a Chevrolet Silverado, but a few months ago I had drunk driver hit me head on, both of us were not in good shape but our cars were a lot worse his Toyota was completely destroyed and scraped but, as you see in the picture, mine wasn't bad I just had it taken to my house and threw every dollar and minute of my time at it and ended up with something much better than I had before. let me know what you think I did use some filters on some of the pictures I thought they looked good let me know what you think. if you know anything about trucks and have any questions feel free to ask, or just let me know what you think of my rebuild project.

I thought about upgrading the graphics card, but I dunno if it would make sense with my CPU being wha it is and vice-versa, the CPU socket is pretty old. Then I would have to upgrade the power supply...I just don't know where to start . Any help would be greatly appreciated! Thank you!

A prayer sent up to the gods of techedness, I own a windows surface 3, and I wish I had seen Linus Rex's review first, but alas, I did not. My co worker gave me His 100% identical Surface, with a busted screen. So I open it up, and all the components are wrapped in that silver stuff, and read about how hard it was going to be to "finish" taking out the old surface and adding a new one. So, that wasn't gonna happen, so Im left with all these components, and I would like to know if I can use anything Inside the other Surface? I want to make a "super surface", originally the idea was to make it a 2 sided touch screen double surface, velcroed together or something, but I saw how hard the screen was to fix, I I felt making an animal sacrifice to the tech gods would be a good idea first. So according to LTT scripture (old testament) I set fire to a fire wire PCI card and an old corded ps2 mouse. Sorry, for the lame sacrifice , we are still poor in the Appalachian mountains of Tennessee, , but not all as stupid as our governor. I'd like to do something with this before our governor makes me go back to work risking my families life serving the tourists who come to see Dollywood, Dixie Stampede, and maybe the Great Smoky Mountains National Park. So all the stupid people jacked up on wood grain alcohol and tidepods are coming here for their Covidication, All hail Xenu and Linus too I apologise for the commentary. Zero

I think I royally fckd up. A drive failed in my unraid NAS and I got a new a one to replace it, but I also added another empty drive to, since I planned to upgrade anyway and had it open already... Unfortunately, I wasn't aware, that adding both at the same time and then rebuilding makes the rebuild pretty hard. Any Ideas how to save my data?

I would like to get into building my own pc but am on a very limited budget. I have an old laptop that I thought would be cool if I could turn it into a desktop build. Is this possible? I figure I'd need to custom build the case probably but any insight would be appreciated!

Alright. I need help. I've got a problem with my current PC that I built- it's not good enough for what I need. But first, a little backstory. A little over a year ago, I was able to purchase the parts for a brand new PC. Here's a list of the parts: CPU - AMD Athlon X4 860k Quad Core clocked at 3700 Mhz GPU - Nvidia GTX 750ti, 2GB RAM - 4x4GB Kingston HyperX (DDR3) Storage - 120GB SSD, 1TB HDD OS - Windows 10 I had hoped to rule the world with this PC; I wanted to edit videos, edit pictures, but most importantly: play video games. Unfortunately, a little while after I built my rig, the new GTX 1050, 1060, 1070, and 1080 rolled onto the market. Now, after a little while of them being out and realizing that my PC is not strong enough to video edit or play higher-end games at anywhere above 25-30 FPS, I want better. So, I have a few options that I really need suggestions on/what to do. To add, I'd prefer NOT to completely re-build another PC, just for money sake. 1. Change the Graphics Card on my current PC to the GTX 1050ti. After a little research, I was worried about my CPU bottlenecking this graphics card as well as not do anything different FPS wise if I were to purchase it. But, I used a bottleneck calculator and found that it could work with my current CPU, all I have to worry about is my CPU being too... sucky. I'd prefer this option if possible. Base Price: $139 (GPU) 2. Sell my PC, Buy a friends that is better (POSSIBLY). Now, this might seem like the best option (for it would be close to the same price as a new GPU), but, problem is there are MANY stipulations. For example, I don't know if my friend plans to even sell his PC or I don't know if I could sell my PC. Also, there's something about having a PC that you built yourself that strikes the nail on the head, so. This is an okay option. Base Price: $150 (with selling PC at the LEAST $350) 3. Remove the MOBO, CPU, GPU, and replace it all. Now, this option is a little bit on the high end for me. I'm broke but I love computers. Basically, what a friend suggested is that I keep my current PSU, RAM, Fans, SSD, and HDD and replace the MOBO, CPU, and GPU. If I were to change the parts, I would go with a basic Gigabyte MOBO that hopefully takes DDR3 RAM (if not, more money. Yay.) The processor would be an i5 (probably not unlocked, I'm not much of an overclocker) pf some sorts. If it's an earlier version of the processor that stills is great, then I'd look into that. Lastly, I would change to the GTX 1050ti or the 1060. Again, this is going to be a lot. I'm not sure if my wallet would like it. Base Price: $325-375 (this is just an approximation based off of the average of Amazon prices, it's not exact). Alright, so there's my problem/story. I would absolutely love any feedback or options that anyone would give on this situation. Again, thank you so much for reading! Alphaem

The PC: I still have my first pc build I did back in sophmore year of high school (2006), and it’s been sitting in a corner collecting dust for the last ~8 years. It’s still rocking an AMD Athlon XP 1700+ oc’ed for those who are old enough to know what that is, some Radeon gpu, IDE cable devices, and last but not least a FLOPPY DRIVE! It’s one of those PCs that you generally pair with a bunch of LED case fans and 12” cathodes (or LED strips in 2017). Picture of same acrylic case off of google: http://www.aoaforums.com/forum/attachments/case-modifications/15674d1134275212-acrylic-case-project-p3060043.jpg The situation: Sentiment is the only thing keeping that PC collecting space in the house instead of the junkyard. Currently, I’m using another pc build. It’s running on an AMD FX-6300 oc’ed and GTX970, and tied to a Samsung 4K 40” tv. At the ripe age of 30 now, I don’t really game much anymore. The pc is mostly used for what I’ll call intense web browsing with upwards of ~100 tabs of chrome opened, youtubing, productivity, and very occasional gaming. I am a gamer at heart but I find myself ending up with 0% productivity once I pick up a game again. Besides this, I have a laptop that I’ll use for productivity as well. The temptation: I’ve made peace with myself that if I do rebuild the pc, it’ll be done for as cheap as possible but with parts that will allow it to hold its own for at least another 5 or more years. I sourced almost all the parts at a bargain price from users online and almost pulled the trigger. The problem? 2 of them. 1. By the time I’m done with the build, it’ll cost $300 for old architecture from the Core i7 920 era. 3 years from now, the parts will be 10 years old. Majority of the cost is modifying the case for bling factor. 2. What purpose will the pc have once it’s done? Coming to a blank on this one. Conclusion: I ask whoever was patient enough to read through all that to provide some suggestions, feedback, or justification for rebuilding the case or not. Thank you.

So shipping my PC home for the holidays ended with a broken Corsair Obsidian 450d. I really love this case but have found it to be rather fragile in many cases. To explain the situation by system works fine but the front bezel and rear legs are broken off entirely, the front and bottom dust filters cannot be used, (front is also broken) and the drive bay is a rhombus. For a case to break that badly before any of the internals says something. Either way shout out to Gigabyte for making bizarrely durable Motherboards! So seeing myself in need of a new case I would like to hear some suggestions. Requests: Price between 60-150 Mid tower form factor preferably of similar width and height to the 450d (width is most important please keep them under 10 inches due to desk size restrictions. Black... not a fan of neon anymore and I like a matte black clean look Has space for dual front fans able to fit full size video cards can mount a dual rad durable... I can be clumsy or FedEx can drop it off a truck... so sadly no tempered glass can fit a disk reader... yes i need that still If anyone has a good suggestion please let me know. in its current duct-taped sitting on cardboard risers state it works but it needs to be retired. I like corsair as a brand and would jump for a Air 540 if it had an alternate configuration so that it is essentially mirrored and the mobo is visible from the right side. If anyone knows if that or something similar exists please post a link.
