Hello LTT community! I am a university student studying History. So my school work involves reading tons of pdf files, annotating them, writing additional notes on onenote and churning out essays on Microsoft Word. I have been doing all of this on my 13 Inch macbook pro 2020. However, since reading documents takes a huge bulk of time among my schoolwork, i read them on the bus to and fro between school and home. However, i find it uncomfortable to balance the macbook on my lap while im reading. Moreover, the keyboard of my macbook becomes redundant when I am just reading pdfs on the preview app and therefore it is needlessly bulky for bus use. Hence, I want to ask the community for their suggestions on a piece of tech I can use primarily to read pdfs and annotate them while im on the bus. One feature i would require is for the pdf files to be synced between the macbook and the device. By sync, i mean that annotations I make while in the bus, should appear on the same file in my macbook once I access them during lectures/tutorials in school (both devices will be connected to my school's WiFi). I would not have enough time to connect the device to my macbook via usb and transfer them onto my macbook before lectures/tutorials.

I think the question is quite clearly just given in the title. I don't really know where's the place to start with reading product reviews, AnandTech seems to be one site I can go to but that's about it. I'm really in the dark about sites where I can read product reviews.

Hello, I am looking to build a new PC with monitor primarily for programming(coding), reading, descent gaming. I am not High on budget. In India I can afford INR 70000 on CPU Unit. and INR 20000 on Monitor. 1USD = 65 INR Example: In Amazon India,Core i7 7700 costs around 25000 INR. I do lot of reading and coding and data analysis(POC Level analysis) and watch videos. I also have some VMs for BigData that I run when I am doing analysis. I am also looking to play some games like Witcher3, etc. for an hour daily(if time permits).I have played games like COD, Hitman, NFS, etc during college days. So I have liking for such games. Mostly 1 USD = 65 INR. I am currently owning Intel Corei5-4440 3.1 Ghz CPU and 6 GB RAM and 500GB HDD. Circle Cabinet with 280 Volts PSU and Samsung Syncmaster B2230 and Windows 10 Pro 64 Bit. Philips 2.1 Speakers. So kindly suggest me some good build.

Im Looking for Monitor that i can connect to my laptop through HDMI . i would use the monitor to mostly reading research papers , PDF documents and Websites . I have 2 laptops an old HP laptop with integrated AMD R5 M330 Graphics with a max resolution of ( 1366x768 ) and An Macbook Air older version 2017 (1440x900) . So i guess both of them are not Full HD . Now im looking for a monitor between 24" and 27" . My only issue is since both laptops doesn't have FULL HD if i connect them to a external monitor Via HDMI will i be able to get the intended resolution which is 1080p or 1440p . I tried this on my 32 Inch Full HD Tv and tried to extend the display option and set the HD Tv to 1080p but it looked bad but the recommended resolution of 1366x768 looked fine viewing at an farther distance given that i don't sit too close to my monitor/Tv . As the Laptop graphics had resolution only upto 1366x768 is it advisable to buy a monitor either an 24 or 27 inch ? Can i get the intended resolution by connecting any one of my Laptops to get the full hd or its an bad idea and i would only get the 720p resolution on those monitors as well? Im not into games as i have motion sickness , so any help regarding this will be much appreciated .Also i'm very new to monitors .

So I am trying to read from a file and display the top 5 scores, but I don't know how to do it. My formatting is like this: Name, Score My current code is: import random import re def storeWinners(winner, winningScore, user1Score, user2Score): file = open("scores.txt", "a") file.write("\n" + winner + ", " + winningScore) file.close() def finalDecide(user1Score, user2Score, user1, user2): if user1Score > user2Score: winner = user1 winningScore = str(user1Score) print("The winner is", user1) storeWinners(winner, winningScore, user1Score, user2Score) elif user1Score < user2Score: winner = user2 winningScore = str(user2Score) print("The winner is", user2) storeWinners(winner, winningScore, user1Score, user2Score) elif user1Score == user2Score: while user1Score == user2Score: user1FinalRoll = random.randint(1,6) user2FinalRoll = random.randint(1,6) user1Score = user1Score + user1FinalRoll user2Score = user2Score + user2FinalRoll if user1Score > user2Score: winner = user1 winningScore = str(user1Score) print("The winner is", user1) storeWinners(winner, winningScore, user1Score, user2Score) elif user1Score < user2Score: winner = user2 winningScore = str(user2Score) print("The winner is", user1) storeWinners(winner, winningScore, user1Score, user2Score) def rollDieWithPoints(user1, user2): user1Score = 0 user2Score = 0 for i in range(0, 5): user1Roll1 = random.randint(1,6) user1Roll2 = random.randint(1,6) user2Roll1 = random.randint(1,6) user2Roll2 = random.randint(1,6) user1Score = user1Score + user1Roll1 + user1Roll2 user2Score = user2Score + user2Roll1 + user2Roll2 def user1Points(user1Score): if (user1Score % 2 == 0): user1Score = user1Score + 10 if user1Roll1 == user1Roll2: user1Roll3 = random.randint(1,6) user1Score = user1Score + user1Roll3 elif (user1Score % 2 != 0) and (user1Score - 5 >= 0): user1Score = user1Score - 5 if user1Roll1 == user1Roll2: user1Roll3 = random.randint(1,6) user1Score = user1Score + user1Roll3 else: print("I'm sorry there was an error, please try again later") def user2Points(user2Score): if (user2Score % 2 == 0): user2Score = user2Score + 10 if user2Roll1 == user2Roll2: user2Roll3 = random.randint(1,6) user2Score = user2Score + user2Roll3 elif (user2Score % 2 != 0) and (user2Score - 5 >= 0): user2Score = user2Score - 5 if user2Roll1 == user2Roll2: user2Roll3 = random.randint(1,6) user2Score = user2Score + user2Roll3 else: print("I'm sorry there was an error, please try again later") user1Points(user1Score) user2Points(user2Score) print("For this round, user 1 got", user1Score, "and user 2 got", user2Score) print("Now for the end of the game") finalDecide(user1Score, user2Score, user1, user2) def authentication(): file = open("users.txt") text = file.read() user1NameInput = input("What is your name user 1?: ") re_res = re.search(r'^{}, (.*)$'.format(user1NameInput), text, re.MULTILINE) if re_res: password = re_res.group(1) user1PasswordInput = input("What is you password user 1?: ") if password == user1PasswordInput: print("Welcome to the game user 1, now for user 2") user2NameInput = input("What is your name user 2?: ") re_res = re.search(r'^{}, (.*)$'.format(user2NameInput), text, re.MULTILINE) if re_res: password = re_res.group(1) userPasswordInput = input("What is you password user 2?: ") if password == userPasswordInput: print("Welcome to the game, now you can both play") user1 = user1NameInput user2 = user2NameInput rollDieWithPoints(user1, user2) else: print("Wrong password, try again") else: newUsernameInput = input("That username is not in the system, would you like to create a new user by that name? Thanks!

List your favorite books here! Simple as that. You’ll liked the last two topics about favorite things so here’s another! Please be respectful of others choices. You can suggest books to other people based on their choices if you want. Some of my favorites: 1. Ready Player One 2. Armada 3. The Martian 4. The Radioactive Boy Scout 5. The Boy Who Played with Fusion

This is a just a random thought I had just now: Can anyone read a book and listen to an audiobook (with a different title) at the same time? You could read twice as many books in the same amount of time! Kudos if you manage to do that in two different languages LOL. Personally, I can’t retain any information that way and it ends up being a waste of time.

Hey guys i wrote a short spec fiction story and was hoping i could have some feedback. If you just want to read then do that. I really want to share this asi am pretty proud of it *i know the paragraphs and whatnot were lost in the copy-paste from google docs... Sorry Goodbye By Jack Vann-Lammonby Rosalie lay there, staring up at the ceiling. Lights danced across the smooth white surface, telling tales from long ago. Lions ran through savannahs and white horses galloped through fields of green and yellow. She could hear her parents rushing around, picking up her things and putting them into white, plastic boxes, occasionally pausing to argue about something, then hurrying to to pack again, as if to make up for the time they just lost. Then the lights turned off. Rosalie was picked up and carried through the house, towards the door and out into the vast expanse of what once was New York. Buildings, mere skeletons of what they had once been, casting shadows over the endless rubble and destruction, as if glaring down at what once was a happy place, sadly reminiscing. A car pulled up. It's immaculate white finish a stark contrast to it’s surroundings. Rosalie felt herself slide into the cool black leather. Her mother and father slipped in beside her, the doors shut themselves and the car began to move. The long, thin Windows allowed the family a cinematic view of the streets of the once-New York City. The road utterly useless, bar a small strip of fresh tarmac, on which they drove. The side window displayed walls of corruption; political propaganda and extremist posters. Graffiti lined the sidewalk and defaced the governmental figures adorning the walls. The car slowed as it maneuvered through the tight streets. Not a thing moved around them. There was a breeze, but no trees to slowly sway in it. Though it was a warm summer morning, no people peered out of windows to catch the sun’s rays. The streets were littered, yet no dog strayed to find a meal. Slowly the broken cityscape faded and and they approached a vast emptiness in amongst the chaos and destruction. In the centre of this concrete field sat a building composed of a bright white alloy and reflective, black glass. It sat there, a single daisy in a meadow of grass; alone. The building was round and, in the centre, stood a white pinnacle, it's tall frame casting a shadow over them. Rosalie was taken from the cool grasp of the leather and into her mother's arms. The two of them moved down the walkway that led to the building, her father beside them. As they approached the building, glass doors hissed open. They stepped in. Rosalie thought it smelled like a hospital, the reek of disinfectant stinging her throat and making her gag. The only thing in the room was an elevator. It's glass doors parted, inviting the new arrivals in. The doors shut and the elevator began to move. When they stopped and the elevator opened it's doors, it became apparent that they were on a roof, with the pinnacle of white towering over them. A voice from an unknown source spoke to them, “Walk towards the entrance and await further instruction”. Two panels slid aside from the seemingly solid white surface and they stepped in. The authoritarian female voice addressed the family once more, “Please proceed down the hallway then turn left into room ten”. They walked slowly down the hall, carefully putting one foot after the other, not wanting to disturb the absolute perfection and silence. They turned left into room ten. There were doors to other numbers going down the hallway, slowly trailing out of sight around the curve of the structure. Once they would have been filled with people, now they were empty. The room was simple. It was a stark contrast to everything else. It had a brighter, more colourful theme, with three small beds: one blue, one red and one orange. The walls and floor remained crystal clean white. On the far wall was a solitary window, looking out. Three seats faced the window. “Your belongings have been placed in your room. Please be seated”. They sat and did as they were told. A low rumble could be heard. The rumble became an ear-piercing scream and the ship pushed itself from the grasps of Earth’s gravity. Rosalie shut her eyes tight and plugged her ears with her fingers, wanting to shut out the assault on her senses. Rosalie felt the ship shudder as a they pushed through the atmosphere. Then all was quiet. Rosalie felt weightless and free. She opened her eyes. She felt her mother's hand grasp her’s. Rosalie unbuckled herself and floated to the window. Peering out at Earth, a blue and green globe, now nothing but a memory. “Goodbye”, said Rosalie.

If you've seen me in one of my previous CPU upgrade posts I'll explain that I've given up on my F2A55-M LK. I want to get a new CPU with a new Mobo that's in the $200ish and down range. I want to play games like CS:GO, LoL, Payday 2, and Killing Floor 2. Also, I'd rather have a good CPU, so if I upgrade to like a GTX 750 it won't bottleneck it. Thanks.

Not strictly computer-related, but I was wondering if one of you could help me out a little bit. I have this thing in my ceiling and I'm not sure what it is. I think it might be a CO detector, but I'm not sure. Any help in identifying this would be appreciated. Thanks!

Hey all. I had a great (in my eyes) idea for the website. How about a classifieds forum? So we can sell our parts? I thought about this when I decided I want to sell my GTX 750 Ti (PM if interested), but there is no forum/thread for this. Let me know what y'all think.

Hi So i am maybe looking into getting a gtx 970, and i would like to know, is there any of the non reference cards that uses the reference pcb layout so i could eventually mount a waterblock in the future, without needing special block for the brand? Where i live, there is no reference cards available (live in Denmark) and also in the start, i dont want the reference Thanks in advance

Is the gtx 970 fan thingy that "only turns on after 50/60 degrees celsius" an automated thing that can't be turned off, or can you turn off it via programs like Afterburner? And is there something more you can say about it or is it like an "open book". To make it or more clear and/or write it again; Can the thing that gtx 900 series have that only turn on the fan when it reaches a certain temperature be turned of or adjusted.

So, I want a tablet. I want to take notes in class with an Adonit Jot Pro, read and surf the web. Here are the rest of my criteria: 7.9-8.9" display, 4:3, 16.9 or 16:10. I will go up to 10.1" but I really don't want to, I'd rather have an ~8" display MUST be a FHD (or 2048x1536 if 4:3) display, nothing lower. $250 budget Android 4.4. or 5.0. or Windows 8.1, but I doubt you'd be able to get a Windows 8.1 tablet with a 1080p screen under $250 2GB of RAM and 16GB of storage, MicroSD would be nice but not needed as all notes would be saved to OneDrive (which I have gotten 230GB of for free), all books are cloud-backed and web browsing is available out of the box. No MediaTek, Intel is fine I live in the US I'm looking at the Lenovo Tab S8, it looks really nice. I REALLY want the Nokia N1, but stupid Foxconn doesn't want to launch here for whatever reason.

Basically what the title says. I want to get a mechanical keyboard with nice software (main reason that I didn't go with Das, Rosewill, etc.). I'm down to the K70 and the Blackwidow, but I just find it hard to pick one over the other. Thanks.

Okay guys, i like reading stuff, be it comics/manga,books or even magazines, but these last 2 weeks i've been feeling like not reading anything... I know that i'm extremely picky when it comes to choosing books, but i can't ever properly force myself to read measly 1500~ pages of Count of Monte Cristo.... I like this book, a lot, but never got to read it because of school (needed to read stuff for it too...), and now i have the time, but i just can't make myself do it... I could make myself read an LN (with a rather bad english) for 15 hours straight, and can't even do this.... What do you think i should do How to make myself read more Do i take a nice, long nap or what? Thank's in advance for answering and happy New Years and upcoming holidays

so right now i have a 120 gig ssd(pny xlr8) for boots. i have a 1TB wd black for mass storage and video editing storage. and a 320 gig WD blue drive for games. i have had the 1TB drive since they first came out back around 2008, and i have had the blue drive since 2009.both worth like i got them for a ripped off price at best buy yesterday. so the big question. i am fine with have a mechanical drive and have no intention of upgrading unless they die. but sandisk is manufacturing these massive ssds in the comping years. i just want to know how reliable and the life of an ssd will be if you render to it. i will buy them for normal mass storage of movies and songs. but stuff i render cannot be deleted since there is no other way to get it back(other than backups, but i live on the edge) and i dont know how ssds react to rendering.

I play a lot of CS:GO and Battlefield 4. I really enjoy the game, but most good players use 144hz monitors. Now I know higher the refresh rate is better, so is it worth me getting the BenQ XL2420Z? http://www.amazon.co.uk/BenQ-XL2420Z-inch-Gaming-Monitor/dp/B00HZF2MPE/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1398638640&sr=8-1&keywords=benq+xl2420z I really like the look of the monitor and its at a good price. I already have 2 IPS displays but these are not the best for gaming. Thanks, Alfie.

So I did a poll once, S5 vs M8, and saw other polls too, and even though the post put "EXPLAIN WHY" in caps and bold or whatever, people happily just say "M8 because of the build quality" Now I love the Metal Body of the M8, it is fantastic for what it is, but people be rational, you do know, Metal gets dents way more easily? It also gets scratches more easily making it ugly after awhile making the build quality feel go away with time, if it is scratched up and dented. I mean look at other companies, LG, Motorola, Apple(5C), Sony, OnePlus, Oppo, do they make Metal phones? DO THEY?! So please, enough with your M8 cause of build quality, Yes it is beautiful in all aspects and should be adopted by others, but if you look at the other phone companies, they also don't really make Metal Phones either. I mean if I had ever had to buy a iPhone for build quality, I would go with the 5C, because for it feels natural and just more enjoyable to use. So all in all, please stop with this build quality nonsense, in the tech world is does have relevance yes, but does that mean, you could have the best Build Quality, but limited Functionality? Or phone that has good functionality but just not such a great build quality. Sorry if you did not like the rant, I have not been sleeping lately due to exams, so I just wanted to rant about this, thanks for reading, and remember, if someone asks why one phone over the other, don't just say one thing and post, they need your help, that is why they ask. /rant A song to listen too if you want to read this post: Or this, Original one:

Hi there folks. I've been finalising the parts list to the new mid-high end PC which I am hoping to get within six months. Please keep in mind that I live in Australia and the prices are often higher than in the US. I want you guys to go through this list and see if you can improve upon it in any way. The catch? I want you to be as nit-picky as possible and if needed suggest alternate components and explain why. So here is the list: Case: Phanteks Enthoo Pro [AU$115] -- Looks good, it's also pretty much the most fully featured case in that price range. PSU: EVGA SuperNOVA NEX 650W Gold [AU$239] -- Good enough to power any single GPU system. However, I don't really like the red PCIe cables. If the SuperNOVA G2 750W was in Australia I would pick that instead because of the all black cables and higher wattage. I also considered the Corsair RM550/RM650 because of the very low noise but chose not to use it because of the inferior cables. Motherboard: ASUS Maximus VII Ranger [AU$225] -- There are cheaper options out there but I chose this one mostly because of Fan Xpert 3 and because of ASUS's generally good warranty. CPU: Intel Core i5 4670K [AU$269] -- Most likely to change this to the 4690K because why not. RAM: Kingston HyperX Fury 2x4GB DDR3 1600 [$99] -- Not the greatest performance, but it's cheap and looks better than any of the other similarly priced RAM. (RAM in Aus is much more expensive than in the US) GPU: Gigabyte Radeon R9 290 Windforce 4GB [AU$449] -- Pretty cheap for a 290. SSD: Samsung 840 EVO 250GB [AU$179] -- I will also be using a 1TB HDD from my current PC CPU Cooler: NZXT Havik 140 [AU$69] -- This particular CPU cooler seems to be overlooked but from the reviews that I've seen it performs very well, especially considering its price. Total: AU$1554 I would greatly appreciate any suggested changes, as long as you can explain why. I would also like to keep the total cost under AU$1600
