Hi, My Raspberry Pi OS failed. I need to recover lost data. Are there built-in recovery mechanisms or tools in Raspberry Pi OS to assist with data recovery? Are there third-party data recovery tools or software that can be used to retrieve data from a failed Raspberry Pi OS installation? Will be grateful for any help.

Hello, I have a 4GB Raspberry Pi 4 which is setup as a SMB file server (a single external HDD over USB) and a Plex Media server. The data on the drive is not mission critical, but I'd feel safer knowing I had RAID redundancy. However since a Pi4 is a low power device, using software raid introduces a big performance hit, so I'm looking into hardware RAID options. There are multiple USB HDD enclosures that support RAID. This enclosure is one that has particularly peaked my interest because of its design and price (on sale atm): https://www.newegg.com/orico-3529ru3-dock/p/0VN-0003-001P0?Item=9SIA1DSB8V2618&Description=Dual HDD enclosure&cm_re=Dual_HDD enclosure-_-9SIA1DSB8V2618-_-Product&cm_sp=SP-_-370410-_-0-_-2-_-9SIA1DSB8V2618-_-Dual HDD enclosure-_-enclosure|hdd-_-6 My question is, would configuring this box in RAID 1 produce any problems for a Raspberry Pi? I'm assuming I would be able to just mount the drive(s) (it should just show up as 1 drive since RAID 0, right?) to my SMB share list and it should just work, right? Worried about potential driver issues on the Pi, this is a pretty large purchase that I would have no use for if it does not work.

Hi folks, I do have a question concerning a hobby project which is stuck in my mind for a couple of days and I can't seem to figure out a decent answer for myself. Therefore, I decided to ask for help from the community of my favorite Youtube hardware channel; Linus Tech Tips. Thanks a lot for the help in advance and my apologies if my questions are rather stupid, but I am definitely not a hardware expert myself Project description: So in the last couple of weeks I have been working on a decent collection of Python scripts which automatically scrape a few websites once every 7 days to show the offerings of these websites. I do this to automatically list new product offerings. However, currently these scripts are running on my own computer, where the terminal automatically starts the scripts Saturday. at 00:00. The downside is off course that once I shutdown my computer the scripts won't be able to run. So I thought; its time for an upgrade and I decided to look for a VM/VPS on which I can run the scripts, database, middleware, front-end etc. However, since it is just a hobby project my hardware requirement are very low and the costs of a dedicated VM/VPS are rather expensive for this purpose. Possible solutions A couple of days ago I searched around for a company which provide a VM/VPS and discovered multiple services. However, I just have the idea the prices are rather high for the RAM being offered. Below I listed some numbers of a Dutch company which offers a VPN solution. Couple of days ago I had a discussion with a colleagues about Raspberri Pi's and checked them out; and now I am stuck with the question whether I should just buy a raspberry Pi instead of a VM/VPS since it seems to be way more cost efficient. However, due to my lack of knowledge in hardware I may be missing some crucial points. Therefore, any help is highly appreciated VPN; €10,- a month; 1 CPU core; 1024MB RAM; 50GB SSD; €20,- a month; 2 CPU cores; 4096MB RAM; 150GB SSD; Raspberry Pi; €115,- once; 8GB RAM, 128GB SSD, including a case with a cooling fan. TLDR; I want to host a couple of python scripts, a SQL database and a front-end. However, i think VM/VPS prices are rather high for the amount of RAM being offered (see numbers above). Therefore, i have the idea that buying a raspberry Pi may be a good solution. I have no experience in these projects; therefore I am looking for some general opinions on this subject. Thanks in advance

I have a Raspberry Pi 3B+ with Samba installed. How do I make partitions/drives assigned to a different SMB user? I want everyone in my household to have their own 25GB share with privacy. What do I put in smb.conf to make this work?

I just finished watching the video Anthony did about reading cartriges from old consoles. Figured I posted this here since it's kinda a similar concept. Basically I recently created a Memory Card replacement for PSX using a Raspberry Pi Pico. Here I'm, posting a small guide on how to assemble the device and use it. For more in-depth information visit the compete github repository: https://github.com/dangiu/PicoMemcard Components required Raspberry Pi Pico (~5$) One of: Memory card (original or a clone or even broken... Basically everything works, clone Memory cards can be found on AliExpress for less than 2$) Controller cable (the connector that you plug into the PSX) Custom PicoMemcard PCB (not yet available... I'm working on It. I Will post some pictures as soon as I receive the first prototype) The total cost of the whole project is less than what would cost an original Memory card! Assembly Assembling the device is quite easy. The schematic below shows what pins of the Pico need to be connected when using a Memory card. You need to cut a grove deep enough to disconnect the original memory controller (dashed red line). Than you can scrape away the protective film on top of the traces and solder the wires onto them (yellow squares). Finally cut a hole at the bottom in order to feed the wires out (dashed red area). If you are using the controller cord the connections are slightly different, you can find the controller pinout here. If you have any problems let me know. Installing PicoMemcard To install PicoMemcard on the raspberry simply plug it in via a micro USB cable while pressing the "BOOTSEL" button, than drag and drop the latest release of PicoMemcard. Uploading an image To upload/download a memory card image simply plug in PicoMemcard into your pc and copy to/from the PicoMC disk. The memory card image must be exactly 128KB in size (131072 bytes, the exact size of an original memory card) and must be named exactly "MEMCARD.MCR". Also remember to perform safe-ejection after uploading a new memory card image otherwise the data will not be processed correctly. I've tested it in a few games and it seems to work fine. It's also compatible with FreePSXBoot so you can play homebrews and backup copies of your games (e.g. if you scratched your oriignal copy). If you try it out let me know! In my spare time I'm already working on a custom PCB and on adding support for a micro SD card to allow for additional memory card images. Let me know if this is something that you would be interested in. Demo

I've got both a Raspberry Pi 2B and a 3B+. They've sat for a while without being powered on (climate-controlled, low humidity). When I last used them, both worked fine. When I tried turning them on recently, they either don't finish boot or don't put out a display. With the 3B+ at least, I can hear the attached fan powering on and varying speed a bit. The red LED lights up, but no activity light, and nothing on the ethernet port. I have tried both with multiple power supplies (both at 5V 2.5A max output) at multiple outlets, tried with multiple HDMI cables and multiple displays both TV and computer monitor. To coincide with the lack of activity on the ethernet port, I also do not see a new device on the network nor one of the Pis' configured device names. I'm not sure how both of these can go bad suddenly, so I must be doing something wrong, or I have tremendously bad luck. Any ideas? The one thing I have not yet tried is checking the microSD cards in either of them, which have remained in their respective Pis' card slots. They are fully-inserted. UPDATE: Well, nevermind. I solved my problem. Took the microSD card out to check the boot partition, found it was fine. Forced HDMI though it wasn't necessary before and I wanted to say I had done something. Put the card back in and no issues with starting it up...I imagine it was just reseating the card considering before it wasn't even starting the network stack and no activity lights. These weren't stored in a high-humidity or hot environment so I'm not sure why reseating it worked. Then again I suppose I'm not sure sometimes why power cycling somethings works as often as it does, even though I've been in tech support in some fashion for decades >_>

Hey I was wondering if I could use a Raspberry Pi 4 as a renderer for Davinci Resolve. Rendering takes a while on my laptop (3550h, gtx 1650) and I want to be able to use my PC while its rendering, but want to be able to use my full computing power while it is rendering. Is there a way to render my videos on the Pi? I could work with it set up as just a rendering server or just straight up installing resolve on it.

Just wondering if I can run windows Server 2012 r2 or server 2016 on a pi. I want a domain controller that can run 24/7 but stay in my bedroom. Their are only 4 users that will be using it. It will only be taking up the entire role over night really when my rack server is offline. Is it possible?

Hey guys, My uncle is looking into getting his personal cloud (for redundancy and working on documents on different computers easily) and one of his options is https://nextcloud.com/box/ . From what I read I'm not completely sure I like it. However, I would like to know the opinion you guys have about the product (both hardware and software) and, if you have tried it, how did it go. Thanks!!

So, I'm looking to set up a comprehensive home server on the cheap, we're talking starving student budget. What we are looking at is limited at best, a 4 Down 1 Up ADSL Internet connection. Yeah, I know. And the only available computer at my disposal is Raspberry Pi 3 + 16GB SD Card & 1TB Usb HDD. Now what I'm looking to do with this pile of dreggs is: Email Hosting Web Hosting NAS Functionality Media Streaming Print Server Now that we have a shopping list, what do I need to know and study to achieve this? And any tips from seasoned vets to the server markets. Cheers!

Hey, I've recently got a Raspberry Pi Zero. I have a USB Wifi dongle so I can use this online. I already have Raspberry PI 3 with Kodi installed. I was thinking of making a wireless NAS but I already have a Synology NAS. I was thinking of making a 'smart centre' with weather updates, news etc... in the morning on my TV but I couldn't find any tutorials out there. Any other ideas? Thanks!

Hey I'm trying to stream games from my PC to raspberry PI. The problem is I can't use "moonlight' I have have an AMD GPU. Any work arounds for this? Thanks!

Hey! So I bought this raspberry pi 3 model b just to stream live tv. But there is huge buffering issue which renders the entire thing unwatchable. I am running 100/100 network connection so I do not believe its creating a problem. My osmc is updated to the latest version. I have tried to fix it through an advance setting pluggin and by accessing the files through putty.

Ok, I'm wanting to make a laptop with a Raspberry Pi. I have a Pi 3 Model B, and i still need some help deciding what things to buy for it. I still need a: Keyboard 720p or higher Monitor trackpad(if not built in to keyboard) Battery bank able to power all of that. usb 2.0 dock so I can have I/O on the outside of the laptop. usb to HDMI adapter. By the way, im not doing anything professional here, so i want normal things you can buy on Amazon or at best buy. I need suggestions. I don't have a set budget, but I want as cheap as possible.

Hello guys, After @Slick did the awesome video on the Joule, I decided I wanted one! Now 200 USD isn't that bad of a price, especially considering what one will spend on PC parts But to a 18 year old in college, with a average paid job as a cook, It's just...not as appealing But the concept is pretty simple! There's got to be someone who's made one right? Well, yeah! I've found a bunch of well documented build logs where people have made the same thing for less than 75 USD! But all of the solutions I've found still lack what IMO makes the Joule so appealing! And that's the ability to control from the app on your phone! Now, I've found a few builds where a web interface for monitoring was made, but I also want to be able to control my cooker remotely! What I'm looking for, isn't difficult. But I have no experience with either a Pi, or and Arduino What I want to do is combine this tutorial I found. But add some features. Like using a heating element instead of a crock pot to make the unit portable and usable in different containers. Adding a circulation Pump. And linking up a Pi to be used as a web interface that will allow monitoring and control of the temperature from a remote location or just adding code and a WiFi enabled board to the Arduino. Basically a BrewPi I guess, but I want to be able to build it in a elegant looking container like the Joule. But, I don't know where to start I would like someone who knows the in's and out's of these control boards to help me out! Or maybe we can get Luke and Linus to take their best shot at it for our entertainment! Hopefully I can find help here! ~NerdNinja TL;DR I need help making a feature rich DIY Sous Vide Cooker with Arduino and/or Rasberry Pi

Hey, I've created a 'smart mirror' with a raspberry pi. Looks awesome and works great however, I'm worried about screen burn since I'm using an lcd/led monitor. I want it so that when I walk up to the mirror, it wakes up. I've disabled the sleep mode and I'm running the default OS. If I can't get that to work is there any way to send it to sleep/wake up with the Amazon echo via IFTTT or a widget on my phone. Thanks!

So I want to host a modded Minecraft server with a Raspberry Pi 3 B. I will have max 5 players. (175 mods) The Pi has 1Gb of RAM, 1.2GHz and has 4 cores (64 bit). I have an 8GB flash drive I can use as a storage device for it (23.23Mbs read 10Mbs write) I was wondering if anyone who had done anything like this before knew how I could do it and if it would work with the PI. Thanks. (I already know about this website but it's for a vanilla server not modded.)

Hey, I'm in the process of creating a DIY smart mirror, it's almost done. Unfortunately my PI Zero died on me so I thought I may as well get PI 3 and wanted it so that when I walk up to the mirror the OS wakes up from sleep as the mirror is powered by an online website called "DAKboard" (goes in full screen when I press F11). I said USB and as I don't want to risk soldering and mess anything up. Any suggestions? Thanks!

Hey, So Yesterday I dusted off my old Raspi 2 Model B and installed shairport to use it as an airplay server for my speakers. Everything seems to work fin except the sound quality is horrible and there is lots and lots of noise and squeaking. Do I just have a bad unit? Is there anything that can be done on the software-side? I've read about the first gen raspis having problems with the audio jack being too close to the power delivery or something but thought that was fixed in the first revision. I also don't think an external dac will fix this as its just horrible sound quality. Any Ideas? Thanks in advance!
