Hi, I've a modem on the opposite side of my house which has vaulted ceiling (no attic space) and I want to get signal all the way into my garage. I'm not really looking for huge speed as I only need it for watching videos on YouTube and steaming music. Currently I can get 20-30 mbps down on the closest wall inside the garage but quickly drops moving away. My budget: I'd like to keep the total under 100$ What I've already tried: Tried Powerline (TP-AV1000) got similar to even worse performance No coaxial for MoCA Would rather no run ethernet through the walls I've heard the wifi repeater are just a scam. Since they wont actually solve the already poor range back to the modem so the speeds are bad anyway. My current idea: Using a Access point with larger antennas (TP-Link AC1200) to hopefully have a stronger connection in range extender mode to fill the black out spot. while being able to reach the modem. --------------- Is this a dumb Idea? is there a better way of going about this? have any of your had a similar problem? are there better products/brand to do the job? (I've only used TPLINK, goMocA, and Netgear before)

Hello i am having issues with the wifi range recently and i can not decide on how to proceed. My issue started when i wanted wifi in the detached garage. I bought a small plug in wifi Extender placed it in the back enclosed porch (Tp-Link AC 1200 RE305) and got it up and going. But i only have signal right inside the garage doorway after that it drops hard. The extender is only 20ft from the router and only has 2 walls in the way. what i should buy to replace the current extender? The distance isn't so bad it is only about 30 ft from the house. Would i benefit from a new router more? (current is netgear AC 1750 r6350) ? or should i just upgrade the extender ? (I had plans to wire the garage with Ethernet but the driveway is in the way for underground and trees prevent overhead). I have no idea what to do. (i will ad a crude diagram of my setup)

Greetings. I have a logging road where somebody keeps dumping trash. I'd like to set up a surveillance system yet I'm having a hard time selecting a camera. Part of my trouble is I need the photos captured sent to me, so I need either a cellular service option or WIFI connection. The road isn't far from the house, I'm thinking a WIFI connection might be an option. (might not) I don't know much about WIFI signal/range booster devices. Any advice is appreciated. I'd say the camera's location is roughly a 2 min walk from the house. Maybe 500 feet or less?

Hey guys, my girlfriend lives in a garage apartment next to her landlord's house, but it has no cable connection for a modem. Essentially, there is no internet due to the range from the house's wifi to her apartment. I think this is due to the router being on the opposite side of the house of where the garage is. My first idea was go perhaps get a wifi extender, any recommendations for my situation? The distance from her apartment to the room where the router is located is maybe about 100ft(30 meters). Any suggestions?

So i bought this https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0084ZYI88/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o00_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1 it looked reasonable with helping me get some better wifi coverage around my house. my pc doesnt have a wifi card so i was using powerline adapters for my pc and that took a major internet speed hit, i get about 120mbps upload and download when i have an ethernet plugged strait in from my router but thats across my house so i wasnt planning on doing that. with the powerline adapters i got about 20mbps upload and download so i needed something else. so i bought the wifi range extender, now i have it i connected my pc to it with one of the gigabit ports on the back and RIP, the speeds are SUPER unstable, one moment they are at 80mbps upload and download the next moment they cant surpass 5mbps. and i play a lot of games on my pc so this is kind of a problem, is this just something wrong with my model? it seemed to have decent reviews so i didnt think something like this wouls happen. Usually when i test the speeds it gets around 35 to 40mbps, (which is still much lower than i should be getting) but like i said its very inconsistent at times

I won't be upgrading the GPU for a while as it is pretty good for gaming at 1080 on ultra, only if I get a 144hz monitor would I need to look at upgrading Valley score was over 3000 and firestrike was around 10,100 Memory overclocked to 4498mhz gpu core overclocked to 2152mhz

Hey guys, So I recently changed my ISP and got cable internet. They provide their ARRIS TG862S which is a modem/router combo. However the wifi signal strength is very bad. I did a Wifi Analyzer test and there are no other wifi networks interfering as my house is not in a crowded area. I also checked the router's settings and the wifi power level is set to high which is the max. I also tried re-positioning the modem/router without any luck. It only reaches like 10 meters away and then gets really bad, so I can't even print on my wireless printer anymore which is like 12 meters away. Whats a solution to this? Should I get a router? An access point? An extender? Kind of a noob with all of these. Feel free to offer your advice on a product. Thanks!

Hello, everyone! So I need a router capable of absolutely astonishing range with 2.4ghz and 5ghz bands. I want to be able to get my full speed (100-200mbps) easily from anywhere in my house and my main use for this is gaming. My budget is $300-$500 CAD. (If possible, a built in modem would be helpful as well.) Thank you!

Hi all, I've been doing some research and there's one thing I haven't been able to find anywhere. In EPA range estimates, is regenerative braking used? Like does the range estimate go for the amount of energy held in a fully charged battery, or does it account for energy regained through the regen process?

So I have this problem (wonder why I'm on here ): I'm in a room without ethernet ports and my PC does not have WiFi built in (used only ethernet for years). I have a router with me that's not even a year old and I was wondering if there was some way to use it as a wireless adapter for my computer by connecting it to the WiFi in the house. Also, running an ethernet cable is not currently possible and I'd prefer to not have to buy a USB WiFi adapter. I'm able to do this with my iPhone feeding off of our WiFi and plugged into a USB port, so I'd imagine the same concept would apply here. Any help is appreciated!

I am currently looking at this: https://www.amazon.com/dp/B01MAW2294/?tag=10beasts-20&th=1 Are there any options that are easier to find in Norway, preferable to the borderline of overkill to the point were its barely legal! ^3^ Edit: The concrete is fire proof and very good at blocking wifi.

So I'm sure this has been discussed before but I'm on the go today and couldn't find an older post. Essemtially, I pay about 32k/year for grad school and live ALMOST within range of campus wifi. I'd really like to cut my cable bill and just connect to the school wifi. I would appreciate tips/help achieving this goal, and if any further info from me would help, ask away. For starters, my apartment is on the third floor, and maybe about 15-25 yards from the nearest campus building. My current connection is through Spectrum (the cable company) but via my own modem and router (a so-so d-link) with my desktop and other devices connected wirelessly to that router. If additional hardware is needed, I'm not against some investment to separate myself from the cable company, but this connection needs to be fairly consistent/strong enough to support streaming video-can't go without my LTT! Thanks in advance!

I have an m.2 to PCIe adapter(I will link the card at the bottom) which has a built in AC 9260. My brother has an older Intel wifi card: the AC 3165. Even though we are the same distance from the router(20-23 feet) he will have a constant 9 ping while my ping goes from 30-200. So my questions are: does a m.2 to PCIe adapter weaken a wifi card's range and power if it was meant to be in the m.2 slot? Does the AC 3165 just have better range than the AC 9260?Link to my card: https://www.amazon.com/Fenvi-Wireless-AC-2030Mbps-802-11ac-MU-MIMO/dp/B07DMDZ888

I am trying to find the low dBi SSID's on my Windows Desktop which my Kali Linux is seeming to pick up, even with low dBi, Kali is able to still find it (as the picture shows below). But for some reason my Windows isn't picking up the low dBi Signals like I am in Kali Linux, I know Windows has some sort of control over that, but I don't know what exactly, would there be a way to disable the way Windows Controls the way of finding/searching for SSID's? I'm using 2 different network cards by ALFA, The AWUS036ACH and the AWUS036NHA, both are plugged into my USB 3.0 slots on the front, both using a 5dBi Antenna. And if it can't be disabled, Any recommended programs for that sorta thing? I know the ACH has the Realtek USB LAN Utility tool (which doesn't help much) but.

I dont know if this actually fits "Hobby electronics". I am making an electric car out of a fiat 126. I will be using 2 10kW electric engines on the rear wheels and i want to know which battery should i buy to get around 160-200 km of range on 1 charge? If anyone here knows the answer i would be very thankful!

So our wifi router is at one of the far ends of our house, and I recently moved my PC into my bedroom, on the other side of the house. I used to get 60-80 mps (16 ping), and it always worked fine. Now, I'm getting around 2-10 mps, meaning video calls and gaming are difficult. I'm using an old HP Elite 8300, so I bought this adapter to give me wifi. I was wondering of anyone had a solution to my problem, like what wifi repeater to get, or if I should get a better adapter. Btw, moving the PC and/or router is not a viable option for me. Thank you, Mellowed

I currently have a horrible Zyxel Emg2926(free rental from my ISP) and the range is absolutely terrible. The speeds are fine as I only have a 120Mb down and 30Mb up, that's all that's available in my area. I am looking to have way more range as well as a constant connection. At times the router goes down completely and after a factory reset (pushed by my ISP) it works for a little while. I have around 15 clients connected from various Google homes, phones, tablets, game consoles and a smart TV so I'm not looking for an extender as the router seems to be overtired. I also have smart light switches and WiFi timers running off the router (which messed up my pool balancing as the router went down and did not send the signal to my timer to turn it off). Basically I'm looking for something for a 2 story home with better range and more reliability for around 100 CAD if possible, I'm going to try to hassle my ISP but might be better off spending my own money and negotiating a reduction on my bill to compensate for this 'free' rental. Thanks for all your help!

If anyone owns this MOBO and uses the wifi, what speeds do you get on average, and do you find it stable in terms of range, etc? Or do you recommend getting a separate PCI Wireless Card?

Hello, As of right now, I have been experiencing somewhat inconsistent performance with my computer via wifi. Sometimes I could be in a game or discord and my ping will shoot up to 4000 ms or so the connection being so slow that I would straight up not be able to open a webpage. The router is in the living room and I am unable to bring it into mine. I do have a range extender in my room with an Ethernet out that I have to use for the printer (it is an older one without wifi capability). I was wondering if I could use a network switch to split the ethernet out into two ethernet connects, one for my computer and one for my printer. I have attached a picture of what the configuration I just mentioned. By chance, has anyone tried a configuration such as this? Does it worsen performance or latency or anything?

TLDR; Has anyone tried using RP-SMA extension cables in order modify the antenna position on their router? Could you strategically place them around your house (assuming your router supports multiple external antennas) in order to significantly maximize the range of your house without having to buy a more expensive solution that supports multiple access points? Are upgraded antennas worth their cost or am I better off using the stock ones that came with my device? Background: I'm in the planning process of reconfiguring my current setup to include a new sit-stand desk. I'm trying to think of better ways I can manage my cables to minimize clutter, especially considering the number of devices I have that are connected to the desk which includes 6 mounted displays, a mounted tablet, amazon echo, router, keyboard, speakers, microphone, webcam, LIFX Z controller, and an HTC Vive Lighthouse. Anyway... I've been thinking about positioning my router somewhere else that's out of sight like maybe mounted underneath the desk. For some irrational reason, I don't like the idea that the antennas won't be mounted upright even though I really don't think it will make any difference considering the room it's located in is probably the worst place in the house the router could go anyway. So that got me thinking... The antennas are a standard threading (RP-SMA) which can allow me to simply extend where I want the antenna to go (in my case right through to the topside of the tabletop)? Following this thought I did a little bit of research and had an idea... why not go beyond just moving the antennas a couple inches and buy longer extension cables in order to broadcast from multiple areas of my house. My current router has 3 separate external antenna inputs could I move each antenna to a completely different side of my house or are they depended upon each other in order to operate properly? If anyone has tried anything similar to what I posted I would be very interested to hear about your results.

Is it possible for me to buy a wifi set up for less than $100 and reach around 1000 ft away and get a strong signal? (I'm aware that it also depends on whats in the way and other signals around) There are a few trees in the way and a small 20 x 20 building made of wood. If so whats are the best options available? I've looked into directional antennas but don't know much about brands and what works best and also seen on some specs for routers and extenders they claim to go up to 2km? Any recommendations and info on prices would be helpful.

I'm looking for the best Wifi adapter for gaming, under £40. Note: my SkyQ router seems to have quite a weak range. Any suggestions are appreciated.
