my speed's randomly decrease with my TP Link range extender I've tried many troubleshooting steps and none of them have worked I have tried factory setting it unplugging and plugging it back in reconnecting the range extender to the network and turning on and off DHCP nothing seems to be fixing the problem someone help me please

Sorry I am in a little bit of a pinch, and I have looked into about 50 different outdoor range extenders and I'm a little lost. I'm trying to help a friend, and he has a barn about 300 feet away from his main house, he needs to get wifi out there. Running a wire isn't an option. So anyone know of the best / easiest to setup range extenders that will cover 300-500 feet (just to be safe) ? Does it have to be mounted on the side of the house? Will something on the second floor on the wall facing the barn be good enough ? Can I keep the same SSID and credentials to avoid different logins for different buildings. Thank you in advance.

Hi everyone! Long time LTT fan, first time forum member. I'm in the market for a range extender, I'm trying to set up smart plugs in my bedroom and the wifi signal just isn't strong enough. My house is aprrox. 1300 sqft. I would love to know what kind you all have or what you can recommend, I'd like to spend less than $200 but I don't necessarily need something super cheap. Hi everyone, bit of a noob when it comes to networking. 2 years ago, my family and I finally switched to fiber optic Internet. While it is very fast, issues still exist. Originally, when we first got it, I was connected to WiFi with a TP-Link USB WiFi adapter. While it "worked", Internet speed was pretty slow compared to what was advertised, because I was far from the modem/WiFi router downstairs (about 60Mbits/s up and down). When the pandemic hit, because I was following studies that were computer-dependant, we decided to install a WiFi repeater in my room, in the upper floor. I plugged my PC to it with an Ethernet cable, and speeds really changed ; nowadays it's around 350Mbits/s, so quite the difference. Sadly, we realize nowadays that it's not ideal. At the same floor are two other people, one who plays a lot and one who works on a workstation. Both are connected to WiFi, and because my WiFi repeater is the closest, they are connected to it. Unfortunately, their download speeds are pretty mediocre, around 30Mbits/s. I thought it was because I'm "gathering" a lot of bandwidth or something, but then again, I don't know much to it. And when I tried and disconnect my repeaterr to "force" their device to connect to the router itself, Internet speeds are faster but not by much. Nowadays it's risen quite the tensions. So, I'm asking for help. I guess the ideal setup would be: me getting a WiFi repeater or some kind that only allows Ethernet connection, so that I'm still able to get the speeds I have without "hogging" the bandwidth. giving them the repeater I had, and plug it to one of their rooms, with at least the workstation or game console plugged to it via Ethernet, just like I did. Or maybe they are other solutions, and I'll be happy to read them! Keep in mind I'm the one who knows the most about hardware, but networking still feels really complicated for me. And I can't get my head around it, with words like hotspots, amplifiers, range extenders, DHCP, routers... it's becoming quite the mess. A few things I want to clear in case you wonder : WiFi router/modem is the original one that we got, no NETGEAR routers or anything. I believe our WiFi is WiFi 5, but I'll have to look into it. My internet provider offers some kind of repeater that can switch our WiFi to WiFi 6 if it's directly connected to the router... I don't know if custom ones can do that, and if I get one, is it worth to use it not as a repeater, but directly plugged into the router? I live in France, so things might not be the same compared to the US or else. Already sorry if things are more confusing than they should, but I'll take any help I have. Hey all, this is my current situation; I recently started an agricultural farm and installed automated smart equipment that allows me remote access and monitoring across the frontline row of my crops. The start of the first row is approximately 60' away from the office, the office has my internet modem connected. My goal is to have 6 more of these rows, directly in line with the office of that first row, each station being 60' away from each other, making the total distance approximately 360' in one straight line. What WiFi device would you guys recommend for this setup? There are no concrete walls, no trees, almost direct plain line of sight between the office and the last station approx 360’ at the end of the line. Also, I'm not sure if this would matter, but each station would have at least 5 smart devices (but no more than 10,) so in total; 30 smart devices minimum, but no more than 60 that would be in use for that entire 360' distance. Much appreciated.

Hello i just updated to a 1gig line at my house and i have a trashy walmart range extender in my garage that is about 120 feet away from the router im getting speeds of about 120-150 which is fine but id like to upgrade to something more powerful with a wider range and that would preferable have a single network so when i go from the house to the garage outside my phone will just swap from one to the other im not even sure what i should be looking at there is so many products i feel like im just watching youtube videos but i dont even know what im looking for can someone help me narrow down this search. thx Scott

Hello, I need you help, determining how to make this work. Issue is this. I have network in my main room (had asked here for help and after answers went with cable, no wifi). Here i set up my Router TP-Link AC750 Archer C2. All good and so. But now i have issue with WiFi on my other end in house. I was looking at WiFi WA850E Range extender, but started to think, that i don't have good place to put in in the middle, between the 2 rooms furthers apart. What i have, i have network cable in the room i want WiFi (now not stable, like 5-10Mb/s) But don't want to set up another WiFi there, that is different, then i need to reconnect there worst case. Also if i set up router, i get diff IP cant use my Printer that connected to main Network through Lan. So what would be best solution here? Sorry to sound noob here, but i though easiest to ask here and maybe someone will point me to correct solution and then will read about it more. I now theres Access Point, but as i understand that's when you take WiFi and connect device with cable. Not vice versa. Thanks for answers.

I recently upgraded my home internet from dsl to cable. I now get 200 down 10 up. My Modem/router (netgear c6300) is in my living room, and my pc is in my office, on the other side of the house. I have a range extender so I can connect to ethernet. However, I am getting worse signal on my pc now. I did a speed test before and after (also did a steam download test). Before I was getting the correct speed, but now I am getting worse. On my phone or other wifi devices, I get the correct speed. I tried re-configuring the range extender, but to no avail. Would it be better to set it up as an access point, rather than a range extender? Or should I ditch the extender, and run Cat. 6 cables in my attic? thanks for the help

Extender: TP-Link RE200 AC750 Dual Band So my router is on the first floor (and it cannot be moved), and I just bought a range extender in order to get internet up to the 3rd floor (where my room is). I found quite a good location, and managed to get a good 15-20mb for 2.4ghz and up to 40ghz for 5.0ghz signals. However, both seems to be very unstable. There is a lag spike every 5-10 seconds while gaming, and streaming isnt the best experience either (altho watching video and web browsing is ok). I tested my connection dirrectly from my router, and both wired and wireless did not have this problem. I installed the new firmware for the extender and tried reseting and manually setting the IPs but it all gives similar results. Am I doing something wrong? NOTE: The building is really old and big, so power lines are not a good option.

So in the UK there is the Isp called Virgin media which is very popular across the uk. the router they provided me with is a dual band router with a 2.4ghz channel and 5ghz. The problem im is that i bought a wifi range extender last year and my 2 brothers are having issues connecting to the extender. the signal is sending but the actual connection to the internet is false. what im asking for is the best wifi range extender possible. price isnt too much of an issue but i just hope that it will work and extend a signal to the moon and back thanks in advance

Hi everyone, Im trying to fix the poor wifi coverage in my house and bought a Ubiquity AC AP Lite to add to my existing network. I want to know if there is a way to set it up so it would just be part of my same network. The one side of my house and outside even out into the garage is handled nicely by my linksys ac1900. So is there a way to configure the new WAP so that everything is just one network as we move through the house?

I brought an Asus RT-AC3200 wifi router to my new two-bedroom apartment. However, this apartment comes with a router, and we have to use their router and internet without admin privileges. They tucked their tiny router in the utility room in the corner of the apartment, so I thought I would set up my nicer router as a range extender near the center of the apartment. I connected my router to theirs with the built-in ethernet ports in the wall. I thought that this method would: 1) provide better coverage 2) keep me from having to set-up all my wifi devices over again (I kept its old name which is different from the new router's network name.) 3) keep my router from sitting useless in a box Unfortunately, I frequently have very slow internet. I don't know what to blame or how to fix it. I have 25Mbps download from the provider, but today was having trouble streaming 720p video with only one device online. Speedtests usually confirm I am getting the correct download and upload speeds in this configuration, so I don't know why I have such trouble loading and streaming sometimes. Can the routers interfere rather than help? Is keeping the old router name and connecting my devices to it a bad idea? Any settings I could have configured incorrectly? Did I do everything perfectly and it's all my provider's fault? I only have very basic networking knowledge, so any thoughts would be appreciated.

Hello all, I have one main Linksys Router that connects to the Internet via PPPOE (I live in Dubai). Additionally I have 2 range extenders, 1 Dlink DAP-1320 and a TPlink RE355. It's a pretty big apartment. Are there any settings on the router, extenders or mobile devices, where my devices can automatically connect to the strongest available connection? My parents aren't very tech savvy and this would help them a lot. Thank you very much for all your replies.

So I need help to turn one of my old routers (a 2wire 2700hg-b) into a range extender/repeater. I want it to connect my computer (that has no wireless connection) to the Internet via the old router and a Ethernet cable(my computer is a floor above my main router) How do I do this??

I recently moved my pc into a different room that is farther away from my modem. I noticed right away that the speed was significantly slower than its' previous location so I decided to buy a range extender, the N300 WiFi Range Extender from netgear. I installed it like it said to in the instruction manual and it connects to the internet like a charm, and even shows higher download speeds in speed tests but doesn't show the actual peformance it has. From my old location it would get around 3.6mbps download and now I'm getting 1.5mbps download with this. Please help It says Ping: 41ms, Download Speed: 3.18mbps, and upload speed: 2.53ms without the extender and Ping: 47ms, Download speed: 13.14mbps, and upload speed: 4.71mbps with the extender

So in my house we have BT infinity and it is quite fast for the area I live in and is completely fine, however when I plug in my range extender my internet is exactly the way it was... For 5 minutes, then it only allows me to use Skype and not the internet itself. Today I reset the hub and range extender and as usual the internet was working for 5 mins then starts playing up... Plz help Edit: it also works perfectly on my phone with and without the range extender - this started when I switched to BT from talk talk Also by playing up I mean not allowing me to use it properly

Ok, so I want to make this short and sweet. I am sure that this has been asked a million times before, and for the life of me I cannot find a easy solution for my problem online or even with my "tech" friends. The solution should be so simple but it's not. I have hard wired ethernet in my home. I have my linksys WRT1900 plugged in centrally in the house, wifi in the entire house is great. I have a ethernet line going from inside the house that connected DIRECTLY to the router and the other end goes into the backyard garage. The garage wifi is unusable. Basically, I am trying to re broadcast the SAME SSID signal from the inside of the house into the garage. I have used access points but they only create a new network, which works fine if I want to keep on manually switching my wireless devices, but I don't want to do this anymore, I just want the same SSID to be everywhere. I have also tried UNIFI access points, only problem with this is they only do zero hand off as long as you use more that one access point. I don't want to get another access point in the house. This is my frustration...... My 4 year old apple time capsule and apple airport express had this feature and worked great!!!!! How in the work do other manufactues not support this!!?? When I would setup the apple express it would ask me if I wanted to use the device as a access point and if I wanted to use the same SSID...... This is killing me I can't simply figure it out. And no, I don't want to go back the apple devices. Thanks

a week ago I bought my sister a Netgear WN2000RPTv2 Universal WiFi Range Extender to help her deal with the atrocious wi-fi provided by her room mate and owner of the house she is living in (she's using a Linksys wireless-G router). Anyways, while the device worked initially, it then started dropping the connection, and soon would not be able to complete setup. What I mean is that as soon as the device connected to the Linksys router, it would immediately restart the setup process. At the time, the router was in an area which received only 38% signal strength. after moving it to the bathroom, which received 58% signal strength, it still wouldn't work. Does anyone know what's up? Should we RMA the product or try a factory reset? I've attached pictures. As you can see, the range extender is connecting to computers, but the wireless indicator light won't even turn on anymore. I'm worried it tried to update its firmware, but received too many bad bytes and is now glitched.

Hey All, Moved into new apt. My Linksys AC1600 isn't doing so hot as far as Wifi range goes, I think it's because the building is quite old, walls are bricks and solid concrete afaik. (Does that even affect signal? I'm not a networking guy at all) Was looking into range extenders, but not sure how well they would work. Streaming video, or even upload/downloading stuff in any room besides the office, where the router is located, is abysmal. Was looking at this guy: TP-Link RE200 AC750 Extender Would this broadcast the same SSID as my AC1600's wifi network? Is that how this kind of stuff works? I'd really prefer to not have to connect to different networks depending on what room I'm in. Also, recommendations on range extenders, or solutions to my problem would be greatly appreciated. The router can't really be moved, because it's in the same room as multiple wired connections, and there isn't anywere to run long ethernet cables (no gaps under doors, etc..) Or are there settings within my router that I'm not considering? tldr: need performance enhancement for my wifi, pls reccommend
