Hi all, I tried searching the forum, but couldn't find a answer to my query, so created an account to ask. I've started noticing issues with my pc, which I believe I have narrowed down to bad sectors on my ram causing instability when using xmp overclocks (multiple blue screens with different stated causes, game crashes etc). I have 2x16 3200 corsair vengeance rgb. Is it possible to overclock this to get more than stock performance, but not quite to 3200, or should I just look at replacing the sticks? I'm also upgrading from Ryzen 3700x to 5800x3d, which I've heard doesn't improve as much with faster ram.

Hi, I need some help in terms of my memory. My current setup is: CPU: Intel Core i9-9900k GPU: Gigabyte GeForce RTX 3070 Master MOTHERBOARD: MSI MPG Z390 Gaming Edge AC RAM: XPG SPECTRIX D50 32GB 2X16GB (3600MHz) POWER SUPPLY: XPG Core Reactor 850W GOLD I'm thinking upgrading my ram to 64 GB at the same speed (3600MHz) Would it be pointless in that the CPU won't support DDR4 past 2666 MHz? I know that for possible upgrade paths for my PC, I'd need a whole new mother board for anything past intel 9th gen, but was thinking I could upgrade the RAM as well as add more storage options in the meantime. Alternatively, any suggestions to help boost the longevity of my PC in the years to come?

Hello, I have a Ryzen 3900x on an Asrock x570 Taichi motherboard. I've equipped the machine with 4x16g ADATA XPG GAMMIX d30 sticks (not a kit, just 4 identical dimms). The ram is rated at 3200 - CL16-18-18 but in my case can only run at 2666 CL19-19-19. When I load the 3200 XMP profile my machine just dies during post. The error code the mb shows is "failed ram". If I manually set just the frequency to 3200 it works but the timings are much worse. I want to be able to run the ram at its rate of 3200. Can anyone help me with this. I'm attaching picture which show my timings. By default the ram runs on configuration titled #1 in the first picture. Ideally I'd want it to run on the XMP titled configuration. Then here are the timing as set by the XMP (but I haven't rebooted into it because as I said the machine fails post), and more secondary timings and the final of the timings. Any ideas what I might do to rectify this situation?

Dear Community! My primary question is the following: What will cause me less pain when doing ZFS + dedup with Linux (Ubuntu/Debian) on Zen 2 overclocking ECC RAM or using non-ECC RAM ? The RAM I am considering is either 2x32GB Samsung DDR4-2666, CL19-19-19, ECC or 2x32GB G.Skill RipJaws V DDR4-3600, CL18-22-22-42, (non-ECC) I know that ECC is commonly recommended for ZFS, though there are diverging opinions. Notwithstanding I do not want to get a speed decrease on the workstation by running it at less than 1:1 IF speeds (esp. in sight of later CPU updates). I personally do not have enough experience to decide on that question, hence I ask for the wisdom of the community. Background:I am doing my PhD in Physics on MRI raw data recon. Due to CoViD I have to improvise in order to get things done despite not being able to use the university resources while being low on funding. So my home ryzen 3700X workstation has to do both data storage and a part of the really demanding calculations (I know separate systems would be the optimum but that will not be possible in the moment) Before CoViD I stored the pseudonymized MRI (k-space raw) data I acquired redundantly on external HDD (according to the study prescription, ethics rules etc.) After this intermediate step I should go to the workstation in the department -this is not possible in the moment (and will not be where I am for quite some time ). However I am allowed to work on the (non image) raw data at home.The data is higly redundant due to headers so a high deduplication ratio is to be expected. But first things first - I have to consolidate the huge dataset. I organized 8x4TB WD RED from other projects and want to set up a RAIDZ2 with deduplication. Currently I use 32GB non ECC RAM (2x16GB DDR4-3600) but that’s to small even without having the RaidZ2 when I start my scientific calculations and run a KVM simultaniously. So my options are overclocing the ECC RAM or using non ECC memory. Here I would have a second question: I plan to use a NVMe SSD for this. What SSD would you recommend for it? (I have two PCIe 4.0 lanes at an M.2 via the chipset) Would the Intel Optane Memory H10 with Solid State Storage 32GB + 512GB, M.2 make sense for this as SLOG (on Optane) and L2ARC or would you recommend otherwise? Hello all, I am working on planning my first PC build and I'm trying to understand some specs that I'm seeing. Also, any general advice or suggestions on my build design would be appreciated. Right now, I'm planning on using the following components: AMD Ryzen 7 2700X CPU ASUS Prime X470 Pro motherboard (currently looking into a few other X470's though) G.Skill Trident Z RGB RAM, DDR4, 4 x 8GB, 3600 MHz Samsung 970 Evo NVMe SSD Either an RX 590 or a Vega 56 GPU, undecided which yet. Case, cooling system, and PSU are currently undecided, considering an NZXT H500 chasis (would love the H510 Elite, but right now I'm not currently planing on getting a motherboard with ADD_RGB headers, so I cant justify the price tag) Here are my questions: Per the motherboard specs, it can handle memory speeds of up to 2666MHz non-O.C., and 3600 O.C. If I want 3600MHz clock speeds on my RAM, will I need to overclock it to 3600MHz? Since factory tested speed on my RAM is 3600MHz, what am I really overclocking, my RAM or my motherboard? I've seen people talking about raising the voltage on RAM and CPU's to overclock. If I decide to over clock, how much should I raise my voltage for each? If I overclock, will my memory and CPU ALWAYS run at those speeds, or only when its required? For example, will they overclock during simple web browsing, or only while under extreme use? Okay, so i need some questions to be answered here... I just got a R9 3900X and a Asus TUF gaming X570-plus, i had a 16gb ram kit from my 7700K and Z270 (im upgrading the ram to either 32gb corsair vengance or 32gb trident Z, but still want answers on this). The ram is Crucial Ballistix Tactical 3000mhz CL15 ram, on my Z270 Tomahwak arctic and 7700K i could EASILY OC the ram to 3466mhz, it was 100% stable. So why cant i OC to more than 3066mhz without safe mode screens, windows crashes, BIOS bugsETC on the X570? Doesnt Ryzen like OC`ing as much as intel? Is D.O.C.P or whatever it is worse than intel XMP? Or is the Asus X570 board just really bad? Thanks for answers.

Managed to get these overclocks, ram hyperx 2400-2666mhz dram voltage 1.2v, CPU 2200g 4.02ghz 1.375v, my main concern now is motherboard vrm temps but there's no vrm sensor so I'm not sure how hot its getting any ideas how to get a rough estimate? Also the ram timings are labeled differently from my x370 board such as trcdrd and trcdwr I assume those are read and write and should equal? I'm giving this PC to a mate and the last thing I want is for it to shit itself in another state.

I built my PC in late December just past, I have a Ryzen 2600 at 3.8 stable. I was wondering if my ram; (Ripjaws 4 2x8gb CL15 @2400Mhz) being overclocked to 3000Mhz with CL16 is a stable setup or not. I understand there are silicon lotteries with these things, after testing I found no hiccups (yet). I also understand that Ryzen is a ram-speed-hungry cpu so I do have a belief that this is needed. What I would like to ask you is to flag anything you might see here because this is my very first time overclocking RAM ever. I also am wondering what issues I should really be looking out for here because a lot of websites and guides can try and scare you with the "Cons of Overclocking" and all that bs. I'm gonna assume that because of the massive heatsinks on these things and ram generally not heating upto their rated tdp, I could actually have this headroom. I can post a cpuZ/hwmonitor screenshot or something from home after work so if that can help you guys analyze it better that'd be great. Thank you for taking time.

Hello i successfully overclocked my DDR4 Ram to 3800 Mhz from 3600 Mhz also overclocked the timings using the Dram Calculator 1.7 latest version however 1 part in the dram calculator it shows the TRFC Value default is 374 and the overclocked calculator value is 504. So my 1st question is in this particular timing is it better to have it lower or higher? Is it increasing to compensate since i'm overclocking the mhz to 3800 from 3600. As far as the TRFC value it gives me 504 but the bios also asks for TRFC2 and TRFC4 so do i leave it to auto in the bios? According to this article online your supposed to use this formula TRFC / 1.346 = TRFC2 and then for TRFC4 value you do TRFC2 / 1.625 so is it better to use this formula or to just leave it at auto? Where did the 1.346 and the 1.625 formula even come from and how is that formula correct? Can someone explain? In my case i did use that formula in the bios settings and it was successful but i was wondering if it would be better to leave it at auto or keep it the way it is. Which would be better performance?

Hello everyone. I recently posted to see about which component I can upgrade in my setup but there doesn't seem to be much gain by upgrading only 1 component. So I have decided to go the route of overclocking until I can save to upgrade more than 1 component. Please help me with overclocking as I have never attempted this before. What can or should I OC, what is risky to OC, etc... Purpose for my build it mostly competitive and casual gaming (I'd say 70% competitive) and sometime casual content creating such as 3d modelling and rendering. So I've recently finished my ryzen5 build. I got a 2600 + 2x8Gb of ADATA Gammix D10 ram in an ASUS B350m-a PRIME/CSM The ram stick model is the ax4u240038g16-SBG I raised the clocks peed to 2666MHz through the BIOS, bumped up the voltages to 1.22v But I keep getting around 2660/2661. I've googled around and found no info regarding OCing these ram sticks... (Maybe I haven't googled hard enough) HWiNFO is displaying a multiplier of 13.33x... if that serves as additional info. The BIOS screen says that my ram speed is 2666mhz... I did a quick torture test on AIDA to see if the clock would go up to what I am looking for, but to no avail Are these numbers right? Did I choose the wrong memory kit for my build? I was going to get a pair of GAMMIX 8gb sticks that run at 3000mhz natively, but I couldn't find them... (I got impatient because my country's currency rate is all over the place, and I bought the parts as soon as the dollar convertion rate went down a bit.) The current conversion rate for my currency (Argentinian Peso) is > 1 Freedom buck = around 38.01 Argentinian rupees... Thank you for your patience while reading this. I had to reinstall windows over this a few times. The windows explorer process was stuck at around 20% CPU usage all of the time. Even if I ran a stress test it wouldn't stop doing that. The memory usage would constantly climb for that process too. The one thing that I can remember being consistent when this has happened is that I enabled my memory overclock sometime before noticing it happening each time. It wouldn't start doing it right away, but it's one thing that's consistent between when it has happened and when it hasn't. The thing is that I've been extremely thorough about testing this memory overclock. I've run memtest86+ overnight, I've run HCI memtest, I've run prime95 blend, I've run prime95 custom to make sure all of the memory was being used, and I've run aida64. No issues, but this issue keeps coming back and every time it has, it was around the time where I enabled that overclock profile I setup. If I disabled it, it'd still keep doing it too. Does this sound like any issues you guys have encountered with memory overclocking?

anyone know an average overclock i can get on my hyper x ddr4 2400 ram ive noticed my ryzen 5 is slowing down its only at 2% usage and application load times are atrocious

I tried to overclock my hyperx 8x2gb 3200 to 3600... I only forgot one thing, can the motherboard or the CPU handle it? And now my PC won't boot Motherboard- MSI bazooka v2 CPU- ryzen 5 2600 Any idea on how to fix the mess I did?

Since i got it like a week ago i tried to get the ram up at least at the 3200 on the box but every time i tried AIDA64 at some point (5/10/15/20 the max time i got over the memory stress test was like 43 something) the pc simply shut down and won't turn on unless i turn off and back on or pull and re-insert the powersupply botton/cable. I thought it was because the ram i hynix and could not be stable at that rate so clean cmos and 2133 till i send back the ram to get a new kit, But the i tried the memory stress test with the stock ram and same result at some poit the pc shut down and won't torn on unless the two cases before. So i don't know what to think bad mobo? bad ram? bad power supply? bad cpu? I have a Hp envy m6-1105dx laptop that has the following specs AMD A10-4600M , Triinity 32nm Technology RAM 8.00GB Dual-Channel DDR3 @ 665MHz (9-9-10-24) Motherboard Hewlett-Packard 18A6 (Socket FT1) Graphics 512MB ATI AMD Radeon HD 7660G (HP) I have turned down the cpu to 2.3 ghz has I have not noticed any serious FPS losses on the games I play ( Race Room Racing, Feed and Grow Fish, War Thunder, Argo) the cooling benefits are worth it, I no longer thermal throttle when the CPU tries to maintain 3.2 ghz. I overclocked the gpu to 979 Mhz up from 667 Mhz. I would like to overclock the ram for more frequency or better timings. The laptop has been advertised to have 3053MB total graphics memory yet I am only seeing 512MB of graphics memory. Cooling is not a problem thanks to my Oplar laptop fan :D) Can someone help me to: Get the Pc to recognize the right GPU memory Overclock the Ram frequency or timings

Hi Folks, I'm new here but a computer tinker for my whole life, except the overclocking part, reason why I came to this forum. I was looking at the 7980xe and found a great deal of $1200 for it so I started planning; Ordered a x299 R VI Apex and looking over RAM and on the QVL list found a few "cheap" 4x8 DIMMs at 3-3200Mhz, particularly from corsair, like the dominator platinum or the RGB ones. The only problem is my lack of overclocking knowledge, where I would like the forum's help: If I go for, let's say 3000Mhz, will I be able to overclock this RAM over it's XMP profile, to 3800 or above? I know overclocking shouldn't be done if you're not experienced, but I have the PC know-how and did some OC (but couldn't pass 2999) on my ryzent 1700x + trident Z RGB 3200Ram (attached pictures that I found) - mainly because I liked the ram but didn't use the QVL though I didn't find it listed there. Hi, I'm facing problem with my ram overclock. My Ram is G.Skill Ripjaws V 8GB DDR4 3200MHz. By default it is running at 2133 MHz. So today i tried to overclock it with 16-18-18-38 latency and set volt to 1.35v. After that PC starts but continuously showing "IRQL not less or equal" So i couldn't overclock my ram. And went back at 2133 MHz where it shows no problem Can you guys please help me how can i overclock it to 3200MHz. My System info: CPU: Ryzen 5 1600x MOBO: MSI Tomahawk B350 RAM: G.Skill Ripjaws V 8GB DDR4 3200MHz Windows 10 And the bios release is 3-8-2018 Here is some settings which i applied when tried overclock.

I currently have two sticks of 4gb HyperX Fury running at 2400mhz I've been able to push them as far as 2933 Mhz by loosening the timings a bit. My question is, with my current specs, will I see any benefit whatsoever in gaming and productivity? Is there any actual advantage to running faster RAM on my PC?

Hello, I think there has been many discussions about this and I hope people have gathered enough information on which would be the best brand to go for and which MB model can overclock at what speed. I'm not looking for very high end motherboards, something right below the high end might suffice. What would you suggest for motherboard and RAM combo? Stable 4,6Ghz is fine for me

hi guys, i'm building my rig right now and i have this problem, yesterday, i bought new RAM, (TEAM DARK 2x8GB 2133 1.65v). and after i plugged in to my motherboard, it won't boot to BIOS and keep restarting after the BIOS logo showed i've tried several method i have change the speed, timing and voltage manually before i swapped the ram, but it still restarting there is no XMP option in the BIOS i tried to plug single RAM, plug in different channel i already update my BIOS to the latest version but no luck this is my rig spec : intel core i3 530 @2,93Ghz Gigabyte H55M-UD2H VER.13 Corsair Valueselect 12800k 800MHz HDD Seagate 1TB PSU Corsair VS 450 is there any compatibility issue in my motherboard OR proccesor?

Ok so i have a AMD A10 6800K for my APU, I have a F2A88X-D3H as my motherboard, the bios version is the newest F5, my ram is the Kingston Hyper X 8 gig kit, no dedicated GPU, my hard drive is the Western digital green 1tb, and my power supply is a dynex 400W. So in the bios i set my ram XMP profile to 2 which sets the frequency to 2400mhz and the multiplier to i belive is 24 (will edit if i am wrong) but in my bios when i go into it it says my ram is running at 2400mhz but in CPU-Z and in AMD overdrive it says it is only running at 1197.89 MHZ can someone please provide a explanation or tell me how to fix this issue?
