Hiya, so I have a server cabinet which is next to both my desk as well as my bed. Im unable to move it elsewhere due to shared living so I just keep it in here, It is quiet for the most part as it has noctua fans throughout including my Ubiquiti switches (which never turn on as Ubi removed manual fan control from their switches). I have a 1U fan unit to aid in cooling but it's fairly loud, it has 2 120MM AC Fans in it. (240V as I'm from the UK) I would ideally like to swap it out with Noctua fans so I can keep this 1U fan unit running 24/7 and not turn it off during the night, I've opened it up and had a look and it takes an incoming kettle lead (AKA IEC lead) and splits it to ground, live and neutral. The live goes to the switch on the front and then to both fans as the neutral goes directly into both fans, with the ground going straight to the case itself. Im not sure how I can quiet it down, I looked into putting an AC 240V to DC 12V PSU in there and then put 2 Noctua fans in but I don't feel comfortable with putting a PSU inside the chassis due to both the PSU having limited airflow and also I never really did any AC electrical stuff and something like that would make me extremely uncomfortable. I also looked into maybe some sort of voltage limiter or something with a dial on the front so I could lower the voltage of the fans to make it run at a lower speed, but I wouldn't know the first thing about that sort of stuff and might make me uncomfortable as well. Thought I'd ask here in case there are any other options that are less scary lmao.

Hello Everyone, I have a small Business Running in India, I am looking to build a new server, where I need to deploy around 10-15 RDS Clients running an accounting software whose each open instance takes up quite a bit of ram and processing power (about 500 MB of ram each instance and about 5-10% CPU Resources), Each Client Will be opening about 2-3 instances of this Software, the Data stored in the server would not be more than 4-6 TB at max and most of the data would be the accounting software. I am in need to build a server with redundant storage , ECC memory , and possibly Rackmount. Also Please Suggest if Dual Processors can be Beneficial. My budget is around 3000$. Current Server Specifications : Processor : Intel Xeon E3 1225 V5 (3.3 GHZ) Ram : 8 GB DDR3 OS : Windows 7 Pro My suggestions for the New Server : Processor : Intel Xeon E5 2630 V4 Ram : 64 GB DDR4 ECC OS : Windows Server 2016 Please Help ! and Correct me if I am wrong for my new server suggestions. I just watched the Claytek WRT Rack Mount video and nearly soiled myself... as I already have a Trunk Desk to match! I am having an issue finding an awesome rack mount case to move my crap into... I have a full-size ATX mobo and a couple of GTX1080 to cram into it... but I am happy to go down to a smaller mobo if necessary. Is 3U big enough, or do I need 4U? Any ideas for a great rack mount case for me? Thanks in advance!

I'm looking for some rack-mountable cases to fit in a little cupboard out of the way. I need to fit 4 of them into this space with a door ~47cm wide and ~56cm tall, but is a good 75cm deep. These cases would need to accommodate ATX motherboards and appropriate PSUs, along with full sized GPUs, one of them being a GTX 1080, and PCIe SSDs. Some digging around online only brings up server cases, and all the ones I could find are so flat, I doubt I'd fit a CPU cooler in there. Does anyone have any recommendations that might be of use? I need either a road case or a rack mount case to transport my 4 GPU rig to a job in September. My current build is in a Corsair Air 540 and will most likely have 4 Hybrids GPU's in it. The CPU is cool with a Corsair H100i V2. I would prefer not to transport the rig with GPU's installed so I would need extra space to sore them in a road case setup. Ideally I would like to also fit at least 2 24" monitors and all of the needed cables. And possibly enough room to bring My Oculus Rift as well. I need to be onsite September 18th. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Thank You

I am starting to look into getting a used rack mount enterprise grade server. I am new to this realm of hardware and I am not sure what servers would be good choices or not. I plane to use it for VMs and a Plex server. I want it to have many cores (12 or more) and support for about 64GB of DDR3 RAM. I need to have room for drive expansion beyond the few multi TB drives I have. Non-proprietary connectors and psus would be ideal. I would appreciate any recommendations of what servers to look at or even building my own rack mount system.

Hey all, Im shopping for a front bay 3.5in chassis for my server rack. The one I bought I didnt really think threw and it was all internal bays that are unlabled and hard to get at. I found a Chenbro one on Ebay that had 8 3.5in hot swap bays however it was 150 USD which I was hopping could have been lower. Any ideas that you guys have?

I recently bought a refurbished server off ebay for some simple home hosting. Namely the HP ProLiant DL160 G6. It did however not come with rails, so I would like to know what sized I'd be looking at for this server, and what rails I'd need to buy.

Hello, 1. Budget & Location $10-30k, US 2. Aim AI primarily, multiple virtual gaming (2-5 stations, mainly MMORPG, possibly other various games but not as important), and crypto mining to subsidize 3. Monitors I have 4, possibly more in the future for other virtual stations 4. Peripherals Prefer linux, I like Ubuntu but open to Ubuntu variants. Will buy additional monitors/peripherals as needed. Looking at rack mount solutions preferably, but needs to be a shallow rack (~34" external, 24-27" internal depth) 5. Why are you upgrading? I am building a new house and looking to setup everything "right" from the start (plan for a 30 year home). I'm tired of cobbling together various desktops for the family all over the place, I want to put together a truly righteous setup all at once. I'm building a new house and planning for my dream setup in it. I'll have a home office with a tech closet w/ it's own hvac supply, exhaust fan to the attic, and 20a dedicated circuit (did some quick math, looks like I may need ~40a for the rig. Will have to talk to the electrician about getting more supply there). I'm thinking of going with a rack instead of all these desktops I have under my desk now (media server, work, personal), will run KVM under the floor and up to my desk. Also considering KVM over IP so that virtualized gaming stations can be run in the game room, not crowding everyone into my office, I really hate the latency of remote computing. I am a data scientist, lots of deep learning work, who also raids with my wife and (when they are old enough) 3 kids. It occurred to me that AI, gaming, and crypto all overlap (although nvidia is best for ai, amd for crypto, but close), and that I might be able to at least subsidize an insane AI rig with crypto, and then be able to run several virtual windows gaming rigs off of that, but I need to be careful how I plan or Ill have an expensive non-solution. I'm looking to build something similar to one of the Lambda Labs blades, 8x 2080ti's, (NVidia is a must for AI, and 2080ti is the performance/$$ break there). Fully expect a 10-30k build here, but I'm not up to date on all of the low level hardware quirks, esp in setting up the virtual windows gaming like in several LTT videos. Also looking for quite, as I spend most of my days in the office and dont want to go crazy. I'm above average comfortable with linux, but not at LTT level, happy to learn and tinker though. In general, AI is the focus, games is the bonus, and crypto is the subsidy I use to justify it to my wife. My biggest issues are: 1. picking MB/chip that will work with 8 cards, be future-resistant for a while, and work with virtualization / GPU passthrough 2. water cooling, I have no experience with it but think I will probably want to go that rout 3. power supplies Any thoughts would be much appreciated.

I am looking at a 3U rack mount case for a personal server but dont want or need a server grade PSU. I know a full ATX PSU will not fit in the case but an SFX PSU should. Can anyone confirm that this is the case and if any of the mountinfg holes line up? I also dont mind taping the PSU to the inside of the case if that is required. Thanks!

Good Day, I'm in the process of renovating my home, with the intention of renting it out as soon as I find a suitable tenant. I would like to install a hardwired Gigabit LAN network during this process. I intend on routing all 23 jacks to a Port Panel and Switch mounted together with the Router on a rack with a dedicated power supply. I would also like to run the single Phone Jack in my house to the 24th port of the Port Panel. As I plan on renting the house out, I want to make it as idiot-proof as possible. For this I will connecting every port on the Port Panel to a corresponding port on the Switch. That way the Tenant never has to worry about moving wires around on the rack whenever they move a device between jacks upstairs. I am also leaning towards an unmanaged Switch at this time, with strong consideration for the TL-SG1024. Are there better Switch options that the forum can recommend? I forsee no PoE needs, and with the internet being a 960mb/s fiber connection, I doubt I will need QoS. Is there any reason why I would want to consider a Managed Switch in place of the Unmanaged Switch I have earmarked at this time? Is there a better Unmanaged Switch? What is out there for Port Panels? I have no idea where to start with those, except that I want one that can support a single Phone Jack, and I want it to be easy to label. Learn me please. Power Supply - Same as Port Panel. What are my options? Needs to be able to support up to five devices in case I decide to upgrade from a single combi Router to dedicated hardware for the Firewall, Modem, Wireless, etc. And probably the easiest question, what are my options for a wall-mounted rack? Lastly, I'd like the install to be clean. This will be installed in the Laundry Room, and so tenants will see it daily. I want it as professional looking as possible.

Hello, folks! I'm looking for a silent, perhaps almost noiseless cooling solution for a rackmount chassis. I've been heavy into rack mount stuff recently, transitioning from having several full-blown tower cases (mostly AeroCool ones from 2013) to 4U rack mount systems. Didn't do much planning beforehand, but ended up with 2x 4U cases with misaligned server rails (mid-hole alignment, 3U rails for a 4U due to easy availability) and one 3U case which I'm most likely bound to throw away in the gutter (or sell on eBay). All that is installed in a 12U cabinet designed for (here comes the first constraint) being wall-mounted. Tempered glass front, 2mm metal back side wall. So far, my 200mm fans case made a noticable 6°C difference in overall temperature, however my CPU idles at 50° (without overclocking) and is able to turbo without thermal throttling for around 3 to 4 minutes; and then it throttles hard, dropping down almost to 2.8GHz. I'm considering the following options so far: Water-cooling radiator for 1U with QD3 and a custom loop for both rigs (separate pumps probably) Replacing CPU cooler (612 didn't fit into my 4U case, so I had to cut off four topmost blades as well as trim down copper tubing; maybe it's useless now) Delidding CPU, replacing TIM with liquid metal, as well as putting a copper IHS afterwards Drilling backside holes for 4*200mm outtake fans Replacing tempered glass with acrylic and putting intake fans on the front of the cabinet Adding a 120mm AIO for the CPU in my main rig Soundproof foam all over the cabinet as well as cases Changing PSUs to low-noise ones (like FSP Hydro G series) Does anybody have ideas regarding available options? Pics of the setup provided. Cable management is a mess right now, but the setup is still in progress.

Anyone know of rails that will fit the Rosewill RSV-R4000 that are sliding rails? I'm looking to go rack mount instead of having it lay on my floor in my guest room and all the rails I see online are meant for specific server case's. It's a 4U case at I think standard width but my rack will have adjustable depth so if I get a super long case in the future it will still fit. Thanks ahead of time. Hi, I'm looking to change my current server setup which is a micro ATX board in a fractal design case with an aio cooler and two harddrives with capacity for 8. I would like to go to a rack setup with the same setup however do not know if there are 1u/2u cases that support an aio and up to approx 6 harddrives ?

I needs suggestions for a new case. I am looking for a new case to build a new NAS in. I am in need of case that fits in 2u rack space, with 8 hot swap bays, preferably with a locking door with filters. The door is not needed for security it is for a home unit. It also needs to be able to handle a full ATX motherboard and the option for a redundant hot swap power suppley would be nice but also not necessary.Rack depth no issue in my setup, would also like the case to have mid mounted 80mm fans.Here's the part that makes finding this difficult... $200 to $300 (U.S.) is where I'd like to keep the price. NO NORCO PRODUCTS!!!! Have had nothing but trouble with their backplanes working properly. Anyone have any suggestions they have experience with. Tall order and I may be looking for a unicorn, I know.

Hi LTT Community, I'm building a rack mounted server (it is actually going to be a router) and I need a 1U power supply. I have looked around but there are no brands I recognize as I have not done much with server building before. I don't know what brands are reliable and well made. On PC Part Picker with estimates that the server will use 69 watt so 100 watt psu would be good but I could not see any that low, so as close as possible. It needs to be efficient as well as not to expensive (lower the better but reliable and safe) plus no longer than 200mm. I am in Britain if that matters. Thanks, Max

I just finished the "Personal Rig Update 2015 Part 4" video and was wondering if Linus is going to put that gaming rig in his server room how is he going to hook up the display, keyboard and mouse I know there are network extenders out there but I did not think there good enough for gaming as some of them have horrible input lag? Linus please tell us what are your plans?????

Hello I work for a company who does photos for a handful of dealerships, I have gotten green light to reccomend and help build a server for the office they are building across the country. What I think it will need: Rackmount redundant drives 8-14 cores preferred haswell should be safe with 32-64 ddr4 ecc ram titan black gpu windows server software ssd and magnetic drives network switch battery backup So here is what happens, we shoot a series of interior shots that then go through software to stich them together into VR, link it with the mouse acceleration or gyroscope on a phone to pan it around. The software requires mostly cpu power to run and is pretty much automated. The editors would like to be able to remote into it from their laptops to initiate the software and then come back to perform any final touchups that are required. We also would like to be able to backup files to the server from multiple users from across the country. Is there anything big that I am missing on the list or any advice. Also price isn't a huge deal we should try to keep it under 15-20k. I am knowledgeable on personal systems so hitting a rack and xeon is uncharted territory for me, probably the same for a good chunk of individuals on this forum. I appreciate the time and opinions.
