I found this R9 280X with a Mother and CPU. The Motherboard and CPU worked, but when I set up the GPU it would shut off. I tried it with a 500W Power supply. Thinking it was the PSU, I bought a 850w PSU. It would still shut down. I put in a Gtx 460 to see if it was the MB or the CPU, but it turned on normally. Any tips or suggestions?

My second monitor uses DVI while my main uses HDMI (if that matters). How can I fix this?? I used both MSI and Radeon software.

does system requirements for call of duty black ops 3 on the AMD side sucks the recommended requirement for the AMD processor is a AMD Phenom II x4 810 I have a AMD Phenom II x4 955 and it's not the Black Edition. Let's just say running the game on that processor sucks and I'm also using an R9 280x and I can't even put the game on Ultra settings because the processor is pinned at 100% in low setting

A few weeks back I was playing Black Mesa, when the game started to crash my PC, with the monitor displaying vertical stripes of 2 colours, each time having to hard reboot. Until after like the 6th time, the video card would simply not send a signal. Cleaned it and everything, and nothing. So I stored it away for about a week and used the PC with integrated graphics. When I tried again that week later, the card actually worked! But I realised that one of the 3 fans on the card was not working properly, so I assumed the card was originally failing due to overheating. This fan would turn a bit upon boot but then remain stationary. I installed Afterburner to test it a bit and found that it was behaving odd. It would only start spinning when I set the fan speed to about 85%, then when I lowered it, keeps spinning until 80%. So as of recently, I have not been doing any gaming with it. I tried Minecraft thinking that's safe, but it caused another fail (Luckily it rebooted no problem, but I wasn't gonna try it again). The Graphics Card I'm using is the Sapphire R9 280X Vapor-X Tri-X What should I do? Some seem to suggest replacing the fan, is that it? I've been using this setup for close to 5 years, but I currently don't have the money or motivation to upgrade anything, so if possible I'd like to keep using this GPU for a bit more and not pay too much. Hi. I need to disconnect my GPU fan due to it causing trouble. However, the fan I need to disconnect (Leftmost in the image), seems to be directly connected to the all the fans' PCB connector. How do I disconnect that one fan and leave the other 2 running?

GPU in question: Sapphire R9 280X Vapor-X Tri-x Hi, a few weeks back my GPU failed while I was playing Black Mesa, crashing the PC often until the GPU wouldn't send a signal. I tried it again a week later, and it turned on, but I found one of the fans wasn't working, so the card must've overheated. (Image below) Tested a bit with MSI Afterburner and found that the fan would only start working when set to 85%, then keep working until I set it to 80%. What can I do to fix the fan and avoid GPU Failure? Replace it? This setup is kinda old (almost 5 years), but I don't have the money to upgrade so I'd like to keep using it a bit more. Thanks!

I was wondering if there is cross compatibility for using another manufacturer's Bios on a card. I have been having issues since purchase with my MSI R9 280x 3GB with artifacting, tearing and screen jitter. The general consensus is that the soloution for this is in a Bios update, and people with cards from other manufacturers have reported success fixing the issue. I have well and truly given up any hope that MSI will release a Bios update for a four year old card. I was hoping I would be able to flash another manufacturers Bios on to the card, at least it has dual Bios should worst come to worst, but I really know nothing about the feasibility of it. If it can be done, what do I need to be looking out for to ensure compatibility? Thanks.

Hi forum! First time speaking out here (mostly been reading silently in the past... ) Situation is this, the card in the title is new to me (got it second hand) and i can't seem to get along with it. Has given me a lot of headaches and reading time and i still can't assure the cause of the problems... It overheats like the sun! heck it even makes the whole case hot to touch and today the screen started blinking black (image goes off for half a sec and comes back several times randomly). Have it connected to the tv through an HDMI cable i can hear a crackle sound from the speakers once in a while... Hey there, I've had this MSI r9 280x 3GB for around 2.5 years now and when I first got it I noticed that it showed artifacts... at the start I just brushed it off since it didn't occur often, but since the card got older it started happening more and more. As of now I get artifacts on a daily basis. Hello, my problem right now is I have a R9 280x (1xHDMI, 1xDVI, 2xMiniDP) and want to connect 3 Monitors, but after some some trying and "googleing" I read that I need an active adapter. Ok so i got myself an R9 280X Tri X as defect but later tested as working, i knew it was iffy but i got it for $42(+ stupid amounts of shipping....) and i have tested it on sevreal motherboards, in both mounted in a case and laying on a box, all using the same 100% working PSU. the only thing i managed to get any boot with the system was using my ASUS P5N-E SLI with a Q6600 and an 8800GT as the GPU in the first slot. i can get into BIOS and Linux Mint just fine but the 280X does not want to output anything, atleast not over DIV or DVI dual link(i have yet to go through the massive pain it is to test HDMI and i cant test the minidisplayports because i dont have anything that takes those nor a cable). i have checked driver manager in Mint and it shows me there is a second GPU, but it says non functioning device and suggests not using it and the only assignable driver would be the one for Intel IGPUs which clearly would not work(il try tho). no comand i have tried in the comand line has detected the GPU, this is kinda the same as when i try setting up SLI where only some programs for some reason can detect that there is a second GPU. if anyone know anything about this please tell me, i really want this card to work because it will be a nice upgrade from the GTX 660 in the LAN PC currently

So I am looking to upgrade my rig, with my rather old MSI R9 280x 3GB causing a little bit of bottlenecking. As it stands the options I have are a second 280x in crossfire, or an R9 Fury. So my hope is someone here, more experienced and intelligent than I, can give me some advice as to what to do. Also worth noting that the 2nd 280x will save me about 2000 South African Rand (about 150 USD), which is a pretty compelling factor for me, being a student.

Hi, Any R9 280X users out there? I wanna know what your normal temperatures are when under load. A friend of mine recently bought an R9 280X for about $100 which is nice IMO. It's an VTX3D R9 280X and he's getting about 80C+ under load. I told him it doesn't seem healthy though and should be below 80C, since I consider anything north of 80C to be the Danger Zone. I know the 7970s and 7950s were kinda hot, but 80C seems too much for a dual fan card. Would replacing the thermal compound solve the problem?

Hey guys, So unfortunately I have run into problems with my R9 280X. Currently, my screen has a greenish hue. It all started after I booted Far Cry 3 awhile ago and started getting weird screen behaviour in the form of horizontal lines flickering accross my screen (It's difficult to describe qualitatively), which were primarily green. I have tried two diffirent monitors, different VGA/HDMI cables and even moved my card down a slot on my motherboard, which fixed the flickering lines. I am quite confused as to what may have happened and what I can do to fix it. I am sure it's a hardware/software problem related to my graphics card as I started my PC with onboard graphics and it ran fine. If anyone knows any fixes/potential causes I would appreciate it greatly!

Hey guys how's it going. It's been a while since I posted anything on LTT and I've kinda been taking a break from PC stuff like new hardware and such and I want to start getting up to date again. Anyways recently I've found out about the new game PlayerUnknown's Battlegrounds and it looks like lots of fun. However I'm kind of worried that it might run poorly on my PC. I currently have an i5-4460 CPU and an R9 280X GPU. Will I be able to run the game at 1080p 50-60 fps in its current state? Or is it best till I wait for an update that fixes optimisation?

If I could then how would I go about doing so? From everything I have read online so far, you can crossfire an R9 280x with a 380 and a 380 with a 480 or 470.

I've long been wanting to build an secondary PC, to bring with me to LAN parties. Although I only visit 1 LAN party per year, the appeal of having a very compact PC is something that I've always wanted to have. Because the nature of LAN parties, I don't like the idea to bring my high end gaming rig with me. Therefore, I've decided to build a cheap gaming LAN PC. My parts: 20 EUR - Coolermaster Elite 130 + free 4 USB 2.0 5"25 Hub Sharkoon 40 EUR - I5-2400 (non K) with stock cooler 50 EUR - Intel DQ67P (m-ITX) + I/O shield 35 EUR - Corsair 4GB x2 1600 (total of 8GB) 100 EUR - Sapphire R9 280x 40 EUR - OCZ 600w Powersupply 10 EUR - 128 GB SSD Micron 5 EUR - 500GB 7200 Hitachi HDD Total money spend: 300EUR Click on spoiler to see picture part list. Honestly, I've never thought that I would be able to make a decent gaming PC rig for this price. The CPU will become a bottleneck at some point, but I've always been playing games on LAN parties that do not require any high end components. Again, this system was build to be just bring around at LAN parties. The games I would most likely play on LAN parties are: Hearthstone World of Warcraft Heroes of the Storm Overwatch Counter Strike Global Offensive FIFA series Rocket League Orc Must Die series Any other game like GTA 5 for example, I would be rather playing on my main system (i7 6700k, GTX 980ti). Unlike in the theme of Scrapyard Wars, I did not had any additional peripherals laying around for my secondary machine. Therefore, I had to buy them as well. I ended up with: 15 EUR - Logitech G15v2 5 EUR - Logitech MX310 + free mouse mat 100 EUR - 25" UltraWide LG25U65 (2560x1080) 20 EUR - 7.1 Corsair 2100 Headset with broken mic 10 EUR - Plantronic Desk Mic (new) Overall, I'm very happy with the parts I was able to get for the price I've spend on the used parts. I don't have any benchmark numbers or anything for new, but they will be available once I've spend my weekend at the LAN party (Sugarlan in Belgium). I've been gradually assembling a budget gaming rig for a while now, and I have all my parts besides a PSU. Here are my specs: Core i5 6500, stock cooler which I will upgrade if it turns out to be inadequate. Gigabyte H110m s2h 2x8gb Hyperx Fury 2133 DDR4 MSI Radeon R9 280x 3gb Twin Frozr OC Edition 1x Sandisk SSD plus 120gb 1x WD Scorpio Black 2.5" 500gb 7200rpm 3x case fans PCpartpicker comes out at 436w, and my graphics card box recommends 500w system, but it sounds a little close. Would an EVGA 600w 80+ white be ok? Or do I need something higher end? Would it make more sense to go with something like a Seasonic s12ii 520w? I'm on a pretty tight budget (like £60) but there's no sense in frying components to save money.

PC Specs Rampage IV Mobo i7-4960x 40GB ddr3 1333Mhz 2x MSI AMD R9 280x - Cross Fire Windows 10 Pro I just recently picked up the 38UC99 Monitor, had to also go back to purchase a Mini DP to DP cable. The issue I started to have right away after updating my AMD crimson drivers to the latest and hooking up the Monitor is I'm locked at 30Hz which is terrible. I thought it could be due to driver issue so I decided to do a clean install of my drivers using DDU (which is posted by AMD yet they say use at your own risk) luckily it created a restore point because after running that tool I was not able to install a single driver. I was receiving errors every time I tried to install a driver whether that was for the GPU or just a random device . So after a few hrs looking up those errors running; check disk, sfc scan, repair, and image repair which didn't solve the issue of drivers not installing I was left to restore. (now I have other issues which I just plan on reinstalling windows at this point.) Pretty pissed cause I should be able to achieve at lest 60hz I manually uninstalled all the drivers from device manager by forcing removal of the device and checking the 'Delete the driver software for this device' which took some time. After which I cleared out the registry for display adapters etc and finally was able to do a full clean install of AMD drivers. To my surprise I'm right back to square one stuck at 30Hz so yeah at this point I'm pretty pissed. So things at this point that I have done include the following: Buying multiple Mini DP to DP cables (To ensure I didn't have a bad cable) Update Windows 10 with all the latest updates. Installed the latest AMD crimson drivers. Uninstalled all AMD drivers using DDU (Worse mistake of the day) Restored using restore point Manually uninstalled all AMD drivers from device manager using 'Delete the driver software for this device.' Cleaned the registry of all old displays (1 had 6 23 inch 1080p Acers) Installed the latest Motherboard Drivers, Chipset drivers, audio drivers, Bluetooth etc. Updated my bios to the latest bios available Updated Windows 10 to latest updates (Not including the Creators update) Installed a clean / fresh version of the latest AMD Crimson drivers. All of which left me with the same results stuck at 30Hz. After trying to shutdown the computer I ran into a new issue, the computer refused to shut down or restart and would get stuck on the "Please wait while shutting down." screen. Wtf I knew this had to be gpu related because with no drivers installed the computer worked fine. After hitting up google its search reveals AMD has had a know issue with this while the cards are in cross fire. So I removed cross fire as I'm tried of reinstalling drivers and the fix posted was a bunch of crap to follow. Load and behold. Cross fire was my problem the whole time. I have finally achieved 75hz at 3840x1600 and the computer shuts down and restarts correctly. So I plug back in the cross fire cable to verify and sure shit capped back at 30Hz and can't shut down or restart. I have tested both cards and they work fine independently and are able to achive 75hz at 3840x1600, but as soon as I place them in cross fire I get the following issues. Windows will not shut down properly - stuck at the please wait while shutting down. Windows will not restart properly - stuck at the please wait while we restart. Monitor is capped at 30Hz So so why does cross fire cap my refresh rate at 30Hz. Well more like 27.something hz? Has anyone else run into these issues or know a fix that would solve these issues ?

So I traded this guy a guitar for a graphics card he wanted to get rid of, okay. And he SAYS it works perfectly fine before he gives it to me. Lo, and behold, it's not perfectly fine. I know, I know, I got it. I got screwed over. But alas, all hope is not lost. Here's the deal. The damn thing works, just not the way I want, or with stability. When in my rig, it powers up, the fans spin, and it shows video. This indicates that the card does in fact work. However, these freeeekin lines are on the screen. Not to mention when it just decides it doesn't want to work and either display a huge one, or nothing at all. So, im thinking it's a connector issue. I've taken the card apart multiple times already, gave it an alcohol bath after discovering what looked like some minor water damage on the actual connector solder on the board. I wiggle it around a little, and it looks better. Basically, I want to know if there's anything I can do to get rid of these lines. The only post I could find about this was on some knock off ltt site, and he just rma'd his. Which I obviously cannot do. So if anyone knows any solutions, please feel free to tell me. UPDATE: Upon further inspection of the card, I noticed part of two gold contacts are missing from the card. I don't know if that's at all normal, but I just figured it might help diagnose it. I attached pictures below. ANOTHER UPDATE: Got the system to boot, found some pinched contacts and separated them. However, the card is being recognized but cannot get drivers or be controlled. Any thoughts?

Trying to overclock my R9 280X and I've increased the core clock and memory clock. The increase is displayed in GPU-Z (its at 1160mhz coreclock and 1600 mhz) but when i run unigine heaven or valley, the GPU core clock and speed read out at 880mhz and 1500mhz. I've tried increasing the voltage too, but that didn't have any effect. Don't worry about if my core clock/memory clock is too high, I just need help with figuring out why my card won't stay over clocked in the bench marks. Motherboard: B350 ASUS STRIX ROG CPU: R5 1500X RAM: 8GB CORSAIR PSU: 600WATTS EVGA Any help is appreciated!
