I know a lot of home servers get used for plex, and I'm sure many of you have tested the hardware transcoding of PMS. When I see people talking about intel quick sync vs nvidia nvenc the topic is always revolving around the number of encodes the GPU can manage to keep up with. What I am more concerned with, yet have never really seen discussed is the quality of the encoders. What's the consensus on quick sync vs nvenc encoding? In the use case of PMS does one look noticeably better than the other? I'm still running an i7-2600 with the first generation of quick sync that supported h.264 hardware encoding. Do newer generations of the hardware encoders supported in PMS visibly look better than what I'm getting with my system?

Hey everyone, hope everyone is staying safe out there during this terrible times, I have an Intel Xeon E3-1225 v2 Ivy Bridge CPU in my desktop, and I'm upgrading. I'd like this system to become a server, running Linux. It will primarily be serving movies with Plex. I have a question re: transcoding. I wanted to see which would be better at H.264 and H.265 decode and encode, Intel HD Graphics P4000 with QSV, or NVENC on a GeForce card, probably either a 1030 or a 1050. So here’s my deal. I upgraded my gaming rig enough to have pretty much a 2nd gaming rig. 4790k, 32g ddr3 and a 1080FE. It’s now going to be a streaming only rig. I have an el gato HD60 Pro in that rig. The 4790k has a 120m aio on it. So so my question is with a liquid cooled 4790k (cooler master Seidon 120m aio), a 1080FE (blower style) and an el gato HD60 Pro... which is the best video encoder?

Hey guys I have a strange issue that I hope someone here can solve. I hope its informative enough for a diagnosis. My system: Intel Core i3 3240 @ stock EVGA GTX 960 SSC @ stock, 364.72 drivers 8GB 1600 MHz DDR3 RAM ASRock B75M-DGS R2.0 Motherboard Windows 10 Home 64 bit About 2 months ago, I used Teamviewer ver. 11.0.56083 and first noticed some horrible lagging that I never had before. Whenever I open the start menu, my mouse would lag like I'm running the desktop at 1 fps, if I close it then the mouse will free up and I would be able to move but whilst running Teamviewer it will happen occasionally no matter if the start menu is open or not. I've provided an example video of what it looks like during recording. In the footage it looks like a computer freeze but in actuality, I'm trying to move the mouse away from the start menu and click outside at those 1 fps speeds. So I said okay, maybe Teamviewer has some recent update that's causing this. But recently I tried out OBS v0.657b only to be presented with the same issue. How I knew something was horribly wrong was that I had OBS set up from before to record my desktop at 60 fps and I've done numerous tinkering with settings to achieve that. Plus I have this exact same version of OBS on my laptop, set to use QuickSync, same Windows 10 and it has no such issues. The first thing I noticed was the high CPU usage. With my settings to QuickSync or NVENC I never had such issues so I investigated there first and saw that dwm.exe along with COMODO Firewall were using a lot of CPU power. I uninstalled the firewall leaving me with dwm.exe at 20 - 30% whenever I use OBS or Teamviewer. That CPU usage is normal only when I'm capturing using x264, when I use NVENC or QuickSync, dwm.exe should be at 3 - 6% CPU usage. But even when I use to use x264 and my CPU usage is 70 - 100%, I would never experience lag like this before. Shadowplay still works perfectly fine however. And the funny thing is, if I have Shadowplay in Shadow mode while I use OBS or Teamviewer, the lagging is completely gone, everything works just like how it should no matter how much CPU dwm.exe is using. So can anyone please help? what's really causing this problem? The Lag Issue.mp4

Hello, I've been looking around for information on the Intel Pentium G3258 and it's performance on recording games. I understand that it is a terrible CPU for streaming, from what I've seen. No hyper-threading, and only dual-core. However, I would like to see if it is possible to at least record gameplay. Games I would like to record: Counter-Strike: Global-Offensive, The Culling, Minecraft, Hearthstone. H1Z1. Questions: Using OBS to record with my specs, is it better to use x264, Quick Sync, or Nvidia NVENC? Is there a different recording application that I should use if I'm using a G3258? What settings should I use in the recording application? I have: CPU: G3258 overclocked to 4.3GHz GPU: GTX 960 Motherboard: MS-7921 8GB of RAM SSD: Western Digital SiliconEdge Blue 256GB SATA II (SSC-D0256SC-2100 [OEM]) HDD: WD My Book 1230 As a misc. question, in System, it shows my CPU as Intel(R) Pentium(R) CPU G3258 @3.20GHz 4.3GHz. Is it supposed to show both the base frequency and the overclocked frequency? Or did I do something wrong? Another misc. question: Sometimes when I boot my PC, it boots to the EFI shell, and I have to restart until it actually loads windows. What is wrong? Thanks.

Hi, I've searched around and couldn't find reliable information about how well a G3258 would perform for this purpose and want a few other opinions before I actually purchase anything. I plan on building a streaming PC for cheap so my primary computer isn't so strained while streaming and gaming. I've heard about Intel QuickSync and how it uses the integrated graphics to encode video quickly, but will this still be viable when the computer doesn't have dedicated graphics? The computer will use OBS and will capture video from my other computer via a PCI-E capture card. I plan on liquid cooling and overclocking. I'm thinking about using the G3258 because it uses the LGA 1150 socket which means I could eventually save and upgrade to something like the i7 4790K in the future. What can I expect when using a Pentium G3258 for a dedicated "Stream PC", for Twitch/Recording In case anybody wants to see a PC Part Picker for this. Just keep in mind that I put that together with upgradeability and portability in mind. That is why it's an mITX build so I can bring it to LANs, That is why I chose a Z97 board, one stick of RAM, and so on. Samsung SSD because I already own one. But the whole build isn't the point of this thread, I just want to know if anyone here has experience with streaming with the G3258. I plan on replacing it down the line and am trying to gauge whether or not I should just opt to save more and buy something much stronger.

I was wondering what video codec would give you the highest quality out of x264/Quick Sync/Nvidia NVENC for a local recording on OBS. If it helps as well I would also edit and render the video using Adobe Premiere Pro using H.264. Thank, GR412

I enabled quick sync to use with obs a couple days ago (I have an i5 2500k), it works fine with obs, and I also have a 7970 discrete GPU in my system. However my photoshop is now crashing whenever I try to re-size anything, and when I hover over 3d all the options are grey, and neither my integrated gpu or my 7970 show up in preferences. This problem goes away when I disable the monitor running off of my integrated graphics, but quicksync also stops working. All my drivers are up to date. I was wondering if there was a solution to this problem other then just turning off the monitor running off of my integrated every time I open photoshop, thanks.

Hi. I recently upgraded my hardware to a Asus Z97-Pro (Wifi AC) I7 4790k I reused my "old" GTX 285. I plan to start streaming and would love to test Quick Sync out. On my GTX285 i have dual monitor. When i enable Quick Sync and set my primary display to PCIE will my windows 8.1 not boot properly. I can see a mouse cursor move around on the screen but it is pitch black. I just updated to latest GFX driver from Nvidia, but haven't tested out Quick Sync yet with latest driver. I also updated to latest bios 1204 Any idea?
