I have a Intel Core 2 quad q9550 with an Asus P5Q motherboard i need help for overclocking because I already did overclock it and all of the overclocked were totally not stable that means you would get windows crash and programs. If anybody can help me on this please I really want a 3.6GHz if it's possible.

Is 80C on Core 2 Quad Q9550 OK?Almost same condition created 65C on a Core 2 Duo E7500. But changing the cpu to Q9550 makes 80C. Both are full load condition.Changes :1. Ambient temperature is higher about 5C for Q9550.2. Better thermal paste is used with Q9550 -Cheap, unbranded paste with E7500.Cooler master paste with Q9550.Tried:1. Reapplying paste and cooler. Cooler: Stock Intel cooler provided with E7500.Note: Q9550 is bought used from ebay, without a cooler.

Going to overclock Core 2 Quad Q9550 to 3.1GHz o maybe to 3.2GHz. Will a arctic freezer 7 pro rev 2 help in temps and noise? What is the expected delta in temps and noise? Please don't suggest any costlier alternative. Gotta go cheap.

I am having a problem, Ok so I previously had a Core 2 Quad Q8300 and just put in a Core 2 Quad Q9550, I have a MSI R9 270 OC Gaming Edition Graphics Card and 8GB RAM... every other game I have, runs MUCH better on my Q9550 (Fallout 4, Shadow Warrior 2, Doom'Vulkan', etc.) but Overwatch now Stutters, every 1-3 secs the WHOLE game freezes for just a fraction of a sec and goes back to normal frame rate. I put my Q8300 BACK in and it stopped then I put in the Q9550 again and it went back to doing it ... what could be causing it. What other info should I post to try and get this sorted out. I run Overwatch on the Lowest Graphics settings possible except that Resolution Scaling is at 100%, VSync on, and 1920x1200 resolution. On my Q8300 I got pretty constand 60fps on the Q9550 for some reason I noticed that it caps at 52 fps. EDIT: After a bunch more digging I noticed that my Processor info never updated when I installed the new Processor. In DxDiag it still said that I had a Q8300, I looked up how to update the info for the new driver and found that I had to go uninstall the processors in Device manager and then restart the computer. It now detected the new Q9550. Went back into Overwatch and noticed immediately that the fps wasn't at 52 anymore and was back up to 60. went into a game and it stopped the stuttering! Own Question answered. So if anyone else is having this problem, try this solution.

I have several LGA775 Core 2 CPUS laying around, Name| Wattage| Clock| Buy It Now price on Ebay| remarks Q9550| 95W| 2.87G| $25| (discovered abandoned in a closet at university, no tags so the lab supervisor gave it to me, possibly lightly used) Q9650| 95W| 3.00G| $44|(Bought on eBay for $40, I bought it because I thought my Q9550 was dead, but it was just motherboard BIOS wasn't updated to support E0 cpus lel) E8500| 65W| 3.16G| $6| (I am planning to save this, just in case one day I turned this old LGA775 into a home Media PC/NAS) E6600| 65W| 2.4G| LEET |(Going to sold with a Abit IP35V motherboard) My question is which Core 2 Quad should I sell? I am thinking about selling Q9650 since I am likely will recover my 40 bucks spent on it and the performance gaps between 9650 and 9550 is almost null. And should I keep the E6600 instead of E8500? Just to make that motherboard more attractive on eBay?

I already have a q9550 CPU, just wondering if it will worth the hassle to get a Xeon e5460 with my GA-E45-UD3R. As far as I read, to make a motherboard compatible with Xeon you need to flash the bios and cut off the two tabs in the socket, what else needed to do with the motherboard? FYI I am not playing latest AAA games, mostly pre 2015 games, but I will use this PC as a private cloud most of the time so power consumption is a concern. Also, I know the hardware is old and it is better to upgrade to Core I series, but its not my primary computer. It is just LGA775 is kind of like my child/teenage memories and I want to keep it alive.

Hello Everyone, i`m new here, could someone help to upgrade my PC This is my spec: Proc : Q9550 MB : JW-X48D2 Extreme RAM : DDR2 2x2GB 399.9Mhz - PC2-6400 Goldenmars Technology (my 1st RAM corsair 2x2gb were broke, so bought it online) VGA : MSI Twin Frozr GTX 770 2GB PSU : TX 650 W Corsair Monitor : 2 monitors, TV Sharp aquos lc-32dx8881i-y and the second (primary), Samsung P2050 (secondary) Daily Use: 1. Browsing 2. Photosop 3. Microsoft Office (Excel, Word) 4. Gaming (Dota 2, Console Emulator, Android Emulator Bluestack) 5. Coding (XAMPP & notepad++) Information about my old PC 1. It perfectly fine with my old spec, although some new version of software like Microsoft office/photoshop/editing video run slower 2. Bluestack run quite slow while gaming and a bit laggy 3. Running DOTA 2 is fine with medium setting (i tried very high, still running 60FPS although sometimes drop lower) --------------------------- Why am i need upgrade? 1. The main reason is to play PUBG (at level "playable"), i dont mind to play with all very low setting, im just normal gamer who just want to play PUBG (i play dota a lot) 2. Better performace for daily usage or even can run most recent game such as fortnite etc Personal Information : 1. I live in Indonesia, and the currency is IDR (1$ = 14.000 IDR) 2. I don`t mint to play game with all very low setting, just a normal gamer, i prefer to go high FPS rather than very high detail texture.. 3. Budget very limited, why? because in my opinion i can do fine with my old spec, i just want to run PUBG at "playable" level. Upgrading to intel i7 is just too much for me (as you can see my daily use) 4. I don`t know how to overclock processor/RAM/VGA Budget & Upgrading Component : BUDGET : 285$-300$ I believe (please correct me if i`m wrong) i still can use my old PSU, VGA, Monitor so i just need to upgrade motherboard, processor and RAM Processor : AMD Ryzen 3 2200G Motherboard : as far as i know i need AM4 motherboard (which brand or any other spec are not yet decided) RAM : 8GB - 2x4GB PC21000 RAM (brand are not yet decided) The Questions are : 1. With R3 2200G + GTX 770 + 2x4GB PC21000 RAM,is it possible to get around 60FPS (more less) in PUBG? 2. Any suggestion about the RAM & Motherboard? 3. Any suggestion about the Processor with similiar price? i dont mind to change to intel as long as the price is similiar to R3 2200G 4. or is it better if just upgrade to Ryzen5 2400G? then i sell my GTX-770 (but i`ve seen some review/benchmark/suggestion that GTX-770 is better than integrated VGA in R5 2400G) This is a youtube video that play PUBG with R3 2200G i`m very happy to hear any suggestion/concern, sorry for my bad english Thanks for your attention

Hey all! I recently took out my old P5Q Premium motherboard with a Q9550 processor, slapped a brand new Noctua NH-D14 on it and been running it as a secondary gaming rig when friends are around. I'm now wondering what you guys/gals think it would be worth for a P5Q Premium motherboard, Q9550 processor, 4GB RAM and a new Noctua NH D14 in a bundle? Is happily running windows 10 now and modern games at medium-low settings depending on GPU on stock speeds. But in the past has been stable with a 4GHz overclock. I am located in Sydney, Australia! Any help or recommendations would be appreciated

Hello. For my own amusement, I'm upgrading my Socket 775 with a Q9550, new RAM and an SSD. Short version: The problem I'm running into is that the Q9550 will boot into Windows 10 only once. If I reboot, it locks up at Windows 10 logo (no loading animation). When I reboot from that, It gets stuck at logo with the message "Preparing automatic repair". I've had it run over night to try and wait it out without result. Long version: The motherboard is an Abit IP35-E. With Bios version 12, it has worked perfectly fine, running an E2160 at 3.4GHz without any problems. When I first installed the Q9550, it wouldn't even post, so I upgraded the Bios to v18 which is the latest official version. After that, I could boot... once, and then ran into the problem described above. I reinstalled the E2160, and now windows boots and performs an automatic repair. Then I plugged in the Q9550 once again. It boots into Windows but it gets stuck again on reboot. Resetting CMOS doesn't help. Unplugging the drive, and booting from Win10 USB also locks up at logo. Things I have noticed running the Q9550 Windows task manager performance tab says it's still an E2160 with two cores. (BIOS identifies the correct fsb/multiplier combo tho) HW Monitor shows only two cores, CPUTIN idle temps around 100C with cores at 25C, where the E2160 has both CPUTIN and Cores at around 30-35C idle. Do you knowledgeable people have any idea about what's going on here? Thanks /B

I have acquired an Asus P5Q-VM motherboard with a intel q9550 cpu, a 500W Antec EA-500D power supply, a cooler master case fan (unsure what model) and a Mac G4. I am looking to install a cheap all in one water cooler, and customize the case to fit my board and install a mid range graphics card. So far i have stripped the Mac G4 case mostly, i am yet to source my RAM (DDR2) and i am yet to source my graphics card along with a few other bits an pieces. If anyone would like to help me out with the choice of graphics card that would be much appreciated as i am unsure on what to go with in this buils.

Help me, Obi-Wan Kenobi (LTT Community). You're my only hope. My efforts to become an overclocker are futile. I have read and followed many guides that pertain to my cpu/chipset as well as just overclocking in general and I cannot manage to achieve a stable overclock. I simple dont know where to go next.... Hardware: CPU: Intel Core 2 Quad q9550 (http://ark.intel.com/products/33924/Intel-Core2-Quad-Processor-Q9550-12M-Cache-2_83-GHz-1333-MHz-FSB) MOBO: EVGA 780i (http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16813188024) RAM: 8GB DDR2 (4 x 2Gb) (http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16820227269) -Onto the BIOS- Clock speeds etc... CPU Frequency: 3.4GHz FSB (QDR): 1600MHz MEM (DDR): 800MHz Memory timing: To my knowledge this is where my OCZ memory is supposed to be set tCL: 5 tRCD: 4 tRP: 4 tRAS: 15 CMD: 2T Voltages: CPU Core: 1.35V CPU FSB: 1.4V Memory: 2.1V (again, manufacturer specification) nForce SPP: 1.4V nForce MCP: 1.525V I ran memtest for just about 8 hours, 100% success, however with this configuration I can only run Prime95 (small FFT) for about 15-20 mns before there is a failure. Just to be thorough, starting this morning I ran Prime95 for 10 hours on ~2.8GHz (stock, or at least close to it) with zero issues. Thank you SOO much for the read and all of your help! I do very much appreciate

Hi! I'm currently running my PC with an old Q9550 CPU. I've run this PC since 2009 now, but it has not been until last summer that I really started to give dam about OC:ing and about components in general. I've only played games and worked on my computer with mostly photo editing, and some occasional video editing. The CPU has been running on stock-speeds with stock cooler during all these years, and the temps during idle is a whopping 55 - 60 degrees Celsius, and under load they might spike up to 70 - 80 degrees. Now, I've read that the Q9550 is a really good CPU for OC:ing. The question now is: Because this CPU is so old, will it be any use in OC:ing now? Or is it already worn out? I haven't really figured out what "aging" of a computer means, only that OC:ing and high temps will make your CPU fail faster. So if I've been running at stock speeds, but for 7 years, is the CPU more or less dead? I run a AsRock P45TS mobo, and I would obviously upgrade the cooler if I would OC the CPU. But I want to hear your opinion about this first before I start investing time and money on this.

I've recently been trying to overclock my Core 2 Quad q9550 (E0). I have a motherboard with a P43 chipset so I know that I'm only limited to 420 FSB but I have 800Mhz RAM so that doesn't matter for me anyway. I've started with oc'ing it slightly to 3.00Ghz (at 8.5 multiplier). All voltages were set to normal and with a small OC like that it sure should be enough. But after rebooting it wouldn't even get through POST. It kept restarting so I had to restart the BIOS by removing the battery on my motherboard. I'm quite new to overclocking and really afraid of breaking something so I decided to ask here first instead of tinkering with it myself. What could be the cause of this problem?

Hey guys! So, I'm running an Intel Q9550 CPU (at stock speeds) with a Cooler Master V8 cooler. For stock speeds the core temps are ~30C idle and ~50C load. When I overclock my CPU to 3.4GHz with the stock voltage the temps are ~30C idle and ~60C load but they can go to 62C on some cores and even 64C as well (never above 64C though). I want MOAR! - 3.6GHz or possibly 3.8GHz, but there's no way the cooling can handle it, with that said, I am trying to keep the temps within the Intel's 71.4C max Tcase temp for this CPU. The temps at 3.6GHz are okay-ish, a bit hot for my liking (~74C max core temp). The 3.8GHz mark with reasonable temps is not possible. So I have many questions: 1. What is a "safe" core temp for this old CPU of mine? 2. Am I expecting too much of my CPU cooler? 3. Should I just not care about the extra 200MHz because they'll barely make any noticeable difference and just run at 3.6GHz? 4. How far will I be able to push an i7-4770K with my current cooler (just an approximation)? 5. What would be a better cooling solution (for any CPU) except custom water cooling? By the way the cooler is properly mounted, the thermal grease is Arctic Silver 5 and is properly applied, the case is open so airflow doesn't play a role really. Any other suggestions you might have for me, except telling me to buy the i7-4770K that I am planing to buy . I am open to advice and suggestions.

Found an old PC outside someone's house left for trash. Looked decent so I grabbed it. Didn't test anything yet but wondering if anything is worth reusing for a build I'm going to be doing for a friend. It's in an Antec Nine Hundred, with a Q9550, ASUS P5E mobo, PNY GT610, 12GB of DDR2 RAM and some ASUS soundcard. What really interested me though is the PSU, an Antec EarthWatts Green 650W, a Tier 4, which is good enough for the build my friend wants (R5 1600 + some random GPU, probably the 610 if it works. Just need display no gaming.) So, what can I keep? Is the CPU relevant for non-gaming tasks? Can I OC on that board? Thanks!

On my secondary build, I have 4 slots for RAM. My motherboard is Intel DQ45CB and is equipped with 3 gb of memory. Now, my brother would like to take this gaming () pc to play roblox and minecraft on it. The problem is, there is not enough RAM, and he would need a little bit more. I plan to remove the current memory and instead put this : https://www.amazon.ca/gp/product/B0032CMZ06/ref=ox_sc_act_title_1?smid=A1XKLTAW7R2SP8&psc=1 Is it gonna work? This motherboard support dual channel, but say it support four slots. Is 4x2gb gonna work?
