I am looking into getting a ps3, and I would like to know if it is backwards compatible with earlier PlayStation games. I mainly want to play the old gran turismo games and the early resident evil games. Thanks!

I just finished watching the video Anthony did about reading cartriges from old consoles. Figured I posted this here since it's kinda a similar concept. Basically I recently created a Memory Card replacement for PSX using a Raspberry Pi Pico. Here I'm, posting a small guide on how to assemble the device and use it. For more in-depth information visit the compete github repository: https://github.com/dangiu/PicoMemcard Components required Raspberry Pi Pico (~5$) One of: Memory card (original or a clone or even broken... Basically everything works, clone Memory cards can be found on AliExpress for less than 2$) Controller cable (the connector that you plug into the PSX) Custom PicoMemcard PCB (not yet available... I'm working on It. I Will post some pictures as soon as I receive the first prototype) The total cost of the whole project is less than what would cost an original Memory card! Assembly Assembling the device is quite easy. The schematic below shows what pins of the Pico need to be connected when using a Memory card. You need to cut a grove deep enough to disconnect the original memory controller (dashed red line). Than you can scrape away the protective film on top of the traces and solder the wires onto them (yellow squares). Finally cut a hole at the bottom in order to feed the wires out (dashed red area). If you are using the controller cord the connections are slightly different, you can find the controller pinout here. If you have any problems let me know. Installing PicoMemcard To install PicoMemcard on the raspberry simply plug it in via a micro USB cable while pressing the "BOOTSEL" button, than drag and drop the latest release of PicoMemcard. Uploading an image To upload/download a memory card image simply plug in PicoMemcard into your pc and copy to/from the PicoMC disk. The memory card image must be exactly 128KB in size (131072 bytes, the exact size of an original memory card) and must be named exactly "MEMCARD.MCR". Also remember to perform safe-ejection after uploading a new memory card image otherwise the data will not be processed correctly. I've tested it in a few games and it seems to work fine. It's also compatible with FreePSXBoot so you can play homebrews and backup copies of your games (e.g. if you scratched your oriignal copy). If you try it out let me know! In my spare time I'm already working on a custom PCB and on adding support for a micro SD card to allow for additional memory card images. Let me know if this is something that you would be interested in. Demo

What's the best way to play PS1 on my HDMI monitor? (and don't say buy a ps3/ps2) Will buying a playstation RGB scart cable, then connecting that to a scart to HDMI converter work well?

I vaguely remember this game so bare with me here. It is a PlayStation 2 game I know for sure. I remember the case cover art had lady (main character) in a dark setting. The name of the game *may have* "light" or "dark" in the title name. (it could also have monsters in the name idk) The game had an over head perspective, similar to league of legends or dota. Almost a "spectating" point of view. You start off in a town with around 10 npc in walking distance. Most of which are quest givers and vendors. The setting is extremely dark, your near/in the woods. After talking to an npc, choosing where you want to go, the game loads you into an area with monsters. Most of them are zombie type monsters. After killing a certain number of zombies, (I believe), you have to choose to go back to the main town and spend money to buy better weapons. Most to all of the weapons were expensive. Health was hard to come by and you always felt under geared. At least, that's what I remember. Decent amount of level design and monster variety as you played the game. The inventory menu was very overwhelming as well. It was like a large spread sheet with many squares for items. Any idea?

I have two video games I would really like to play again. They were really changeling when I was little. Naturally, I'm older now and would like to give them another try. Is it possible to search for a ps1 or ps2 game by case cover art? I need a large index of ps1 game to slowly scroll through. If I could see the case again, I think I would remember. Anybody got any better idea to find this needle in a hay stack? I will be opening another post later explaining in details of each game. Hopefully, somebody knows the name of them. Just checking to see if there is a better way. Thanks This is not easy to scroll through >>>http://www.thecoverproject.net/view.php?cat_id=6

Hi, So I've been trying to find a cheap version of castlevania symphony of the night for my ps1 but its like a low, low price of fucking 50 dollars. Thus, so then I just decided to fire up dolphin. Now, currently I'm on a trip so I'm not gonna bring my desktop obviously so just keep in mind I'm using a macbook from 2008. ( Running macos ) So i've never used dolphin on macos but I'm not completely ignorant to emulation. So I wanted to test it out, maybe play some doom. And so it doesn't fire up. I've heard that emulating games are harder then doing it on the actual oem console that the game was intended to be played on and I've heard that it takes more beastly components that the original hardware used in the original system to emulate. However, I'm pretty fucking sure my fucking laptop even from the 2008 can run doom. I'm sure as fuck. So I just sorta tried castlevania and that didn't work. I did load the iso files ( for doom I loaded the wad file ) and it turns black and then it gives an error message and crashes.

Ok so i have been planing this build for over a year and waiting for the parts to become available and after so long it is finally done. My initial idea was to build the fasted pc possible in the smallest amount of space so a ps1 was chosen as it is only 2.1645 litres and i wanted a challenge. i seen that the asrock desk mini could support a gtx 1080 and foung out how small the mother bored was. it was then that it was decided that i would use this as the base Specs Case: it should be obvious by the title a PS1 Processor: intel 8th Gen Core i7-8700K Processor Motherboard: Asrock Z370M-STX MXM Graphics card: NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1080 (8GB GDDR5X) MXM card Ram: 32 GB G.SKILL Ripjaws DDR4 Laptop Memory (only 16gb used see below why) Storage: Intel 760p 1TB M.2 PCIe NVMe SSD/Solid State Drive water cooling loop Alphacool NexXxoS XT45 Full Copper 40mm Triple radiator 3x Noctua NF-A4x10 FLX ( 40x40x10mm ) Alphacool NexXxos GPX Pro Solo with backplate - black tubing PUR 8/6mm (1/4"ID) clear 8/6mm (6x1mm) barb fitting G1/4 thermal grizzly conductonaut (it needs it) acrylic spray (reading the instruction it mentions not to be sold to the public and to be used by professionals witch i'm not) miscellaneous stuff bought switches led mother bored standoffs Crimp pin connectors latch connectors The build This was a time consuming project took be about 2 and a half months to complete (it was done is my spare time and i was on holiday for two weeks) and frustrating as the is next to no room when building inside of something so small. Ps1 prep I stated of buy removing the inner workings of the play station witch to my surprise the ps1 i bought was chipped and giving the case a clean as this console has been sitting in the back of a store for a long time after that came the fun part using a dremel to remove all of the bumps, screw holes and divider plate to make room for the mother board and space for the rear io. then making some holes for the mother board stand offs I used hot glue to connect the switch and led to the case so the power and reset buttons work and the led turn on like the original ps1. I also use hot glue to connect the latch switch to allow the lid to open and close I was not able to use the original button to do this as the radiator it in the way Mother board prep and why only 16GB of ram So as i am using liquid metal in this build i need to protect my components with an acrylic spray it easy to use just spray on to a cotton swam and start covering every thing around what you are about to liquid metal. found out this can take a lot of time so i went with the easier method and just sprayed it on making sure i covered the cpu and gpu chips but i forgot to cover the ram so after it hardened and i went to post the PC it failed to boot turns out the first ram socket i cover some of the pins preventing contact as the cpu still recognises that it is there but cant store properly it get stuck in a post loop. i have tried to remove the acrylic but to no success i spent nearly a week under a black light with sand paper to remove the acrylic but to no success so i left the second stick out Water cooling loop build so i turns out that the gpu block o bough does not fit on the mxm card as the mounting hole are to close on the card but i did notice that the screws that hold the cooling plate to the plastic housing match up with the holes on the gpu so i got some long bolts and the dried through the hole for the screw in the plastic housing fed the bold through the top of the plastic housing then the cooling plate and finally onto the gpu making sure to bolt the block back together tightly as space is limited in a ps1 i decided to skip having a reservoir it is possible but not required as filling the loop requires submerging parts water a letting it run until no air is left i done this by filling a bucket with deionized water at puting the radiator and pipe in then taking a bottle of deionized water and connecting it to the end of the pipe and squeezing the water through the loop then once all the air bubbles where out disconnecting the bottle and connecting the pipe to the radiator under water The Finished Product It runs just like any other PC it is a bit on the hotter side having idle temps of about 50c at idle i have not yet done a stress test on it to see if it will throttle but will update later with the results I could probably have done better a cutting the holes maybe next time and i cant find the panel for the parallel port might have to print one will link more photos at after bench marking with the case apart Edited to correct spelling mistakes and to include new photos below and performance info Performance Under full synthetic load the pc thermal cut out due to over heating but can still manage to keep it temps below 50C when under light load and should be fine whilst gaming one other thing i noticed when benching is that it is a lot quieter than i expected tested it with my phones db meter and it was at about 22 db a meter away and up close reaching 33 in front and near 60 db right next to the fans but I believe this was manly due to the air being blown into the mic

This issue first came about when I tried to play an old PS1 game through my PS2 which was connected to capture setup which is Elgator game capture HD (not the 60FPS model). PS2 and original X Box games work fine but the PS1 games give me the out of range message. I am familiar with what this error means however I was wondering if anyone has found a way to get around it so the image can be displayed? I recently got my orginal Sega Megadrive connected to it as well and would love to start creating videos for those games. Thanks in advance for any help

Back when consoles were better than PCs for gaming, an awesome series was born under the title of Crash Bandicoot What do you think is the best title in that series? I vote for either Crash 2 or Crash team racing OOOOR crash bash if I am with 3 other friends around

Hi there... I was just wondering if anyone wanted to watch/see reviews of old, obscure PS1 games... By obscure, I mean unpopular (from my perspective)... I'm asking this question since I remembered that I had a large-ish PS1 game library and a still working PS1... All I need right now is a camera (or I can use bandicam + an emulator)... These reviews might be the start of a little youtube channel that I have lying around... Thanks for the feedback...

Share your favorite memories with the beast known as the PlayStation 1. Keep your replies under 1MB. Wouldnt want to overload the memory card, now would we? Spyro, Metal Gear Solid, Silent Hill, Gran Turismo, Lara croft... I remember trying to boot up a scratched TR3 disc, and it actually worked. Had to freeze the disc in the freezer first, but it worked. The school courtyard in Silent Hill... I was only 6 (I think)... Running around the tank hanger looking for meryls codec code on the back of some CD case that I could not find in MGS... Locking the butler in the freezer in TR3... So many memories! Also, can someone try watercool a PS1 for the lolz?
