Hello dear LMG staff! I'm curious. If yes, which DAM/MAM does LMG use to manage the masses of material and to be able to find anything again? Or do you simply have all the videos in your head since LMG was founded? Best regards! Andreas

Hello my dear fellow ltt fans, i know i have asked yall alot of questions on linux and laptops, but i wanted to ask has anyone tried running any other operating system on an old mobile phone that shipped with android, i have my old samsung galaxy a7 (2016) laying around and wanted to play with it, but i found it even more confusing to try new things on mobile than it is on laptop, and ive seen pure os and ubunto touch and jing os but i am afraid of testing before asking as any wrong step would brick the phone, and if yall dont suggest changing the os what other projects have yall tested on old android devices that helped yall?

Title is pretty obvious. Each thread would be a different project. these project guides should be pretty basic so that anyone can do it and include lots of pictures for the tech illiterate. Example projects: How to set up a NAS on Windows ” on Mac How to host a free HTML website on github How to link your HTML website to a custom domain How to make a website with google pages etc etc

I just felt like listing everything I intend to do at some point both at work and at home so I could have a list. And I figured I would share that list with people because why not? I'll probably check them off as I go or something and update when I get a major one done. If I have time, forums threads will accompany them if they are cool and I think people will care. Note that what stops me for many of the home ones is money. Also ETC = Estimated Time of Completion, ETA = Estimated Time of Arrival. Note also that all ETA/ETC's are assuming I don't join the Air Force. If I do, then those will obviously change a lot. Some things probably won't even happen. We'll see (If I become a drone pilot, which is totally a thing, I can still live in Texas and have tons of free time, it just all depends on the job). Home projects (ordered by which will get done first, most likely): Start making PCB jewelry and such out of my heaps of circuit/motherboards to sell on itzy and other websites. (ETA: 5/16/2014; ETC: Eventually) This will feed the others and is relatively easy to start and spreads over a long period of time, so it's first. Finish setting up my FreeNAS server with my plugins and such. (ETC: 5/17/2014) This still hasn't been done because I've been busy. It honestly ties with #1, but I'd prefer to complete or at least start #1 first. Thus the order. All I need to do is install the OS and get the plugins to work. I've got to find a stable version though and that's proving difficult. Route Ethernet through the walls in my home. (ETC: 6/21-31/2014) Approximate cost $200 or so in total, I intend to have a patch panel with Cat 6A because future proofing and me having a FreeNAS server for backups and such means I need no bottlenecks. It will also add value to my house, I'm sure. Finish or fix all the renovations going on in my home. (ETC: 5/11/2015) This is something that my step-dad was doing. However, he stopped when my mom died (they were doing it together). Since then, little has been done and most of it is unfinished. I have most of the materials. I just need to have time to do it. This sort of ties with #5, but this doesn't require much monetary input, so this is more likely to happen sooner. Set up Solar Panels on my roof. (ETA/C: Eventually) This has some issues as I have trees EVERYWHERE where I live, so I'm either going to have to trim some, or find a different way or place to mount them, approximate costs are $16,000 but I expect to get some grants and stuff for it too from my local and state government as well as my electricity company. I'm seriously considering an unorthodox and strange looking setup, but at the same time, I don't want to do that. My house would look dumb, and future buyers might not be interested in something like that. Although I do entirely intend to bring my solar panels and thermostat with me if I do move. Work projects (I'm not doing ETA/ETC or descriptions for these because it's work): Finish re-arranging a file server to where all the drives are formatted to allow usage of their total storage capacity, since they are formatted in MBR and not GPT. Finish setting up Roaming Profiles within our Domain. Finish setting up our Ubuntu server to host services like Cacti, Nagios, our internal messaging server-client program, and the like. Upgrade file server in #1 to server grade hardware (it's consumer stuff aside from the HDD's currently). Clean our phone closet and arrange all wires neatly (this will take FOREVER). My Gaming PC specific Projects: Buy a Logitech G502 (ETA: 7/11/2014 I love this mouse so much. :D The only negatives for me is the lack of a pinky rest and the blue light (only option), but I use that to maneuver my mouse anyway and it kind of goes with white/black anyway respectively. I may sell my current mouse to make up the difference to get this one anyway. I also decided some time ago that my next/final mouse would be a Logitech one after I watched a video of one of their engineers explaining the intricacies of Mice designing. Buy a new keyboard (after completing the review/in depth look at my current one) (ETA: 9/11/2014) I'm not sure what I'm going with after this. I only know it will be black or brown switches, full keyboard layout and will have macros. We'll see. I'll update this as I decide. Purchase another reference 290X or sell my current one and get a 295X2 if possible. (ETA: 11/11/2014) Preparing for 4K, and future watercooling. Watercool all the things (ETA: When finances allow) This one is going to take a while. I know what parts I want, how they are going to be set up, and everything, but hey, it's costly to water cool. And that's just counting those 3 categories. I have many more. This is why I'm so busy. :( So many things going on at once *sigh*.

My USB headphone amp is not letting my PC sleep etc when its plugged in. I managed to figure out it was this specific device because when I unplug it the PC sleeps then I plug it back in and it does not. I looked in device manager and it does not seem like there is a option I can change there since it does not have the "power management" tab the other USB devices like mice or keyboards have where you can decide if it should prevent sleep or not. Has anyone run into anything similar? I am running the correct drivers etc. Its a Pre Box S2 Digital, I am going to contact support but in the mean time does anyone have any ideas? Thanks for the help!

I've recently been applying for jobs as a new graduate in the computing sector but not much luck. Most of the jobs in my area work around web dev, software engineers and junior roles, however due to only just coming out of education, I have no commercial experience and my portfolio is extremely limited. For feedback from one of my last applications, the guy in charge recommended that I created a portfolio, doesn't have to be of any real life projects, just a series of dummy developer projects. What I was going to as is, what kind of projects should I do or create which would look good on a portfolio? For example a website using a SQL database to gain access to a fake library of files, or a super pretty website using CSS tools etc. Or along with this, maybe a program which reads and shows disk activity. Any ideas are good ideas! Thanks

So this idea came to me from the LTT video where they compare the Alienware Graphics Amplifier against the Razer Core, as seen here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FHwXOwTgYB0 Where I thought, hang on, don't we already have the technology to do this DIY style? So naturally, I went to PcPartPicker to make a prototype: https://pcpartpicker.com/user/Gy001/saved/#view=87p23C But my question is if you were to put a graphics card inside it would it work? Or if that specific design wouldn't work, would anything? This thread would basically be a free video idea generator if monitored correctly. It could lead to some great ideas for comparisons, PC builds, and other things I can't think of off the top of my head. But the if monitored correctly part can't be stressed enough because there will be those people who post their "Dope AF" PC expecting that you people will make a video out of it "doing a zillion frames per second in Crysis 6 on 3 8K TVs in surround". -Some LTT Vid I can't be bothered to find. So, that, in a nutshell, is my idea, now go forth and ignore it.

Hey everyone I'm a fairly new python programmer but am one of the best in my high school second only to my brother and 2 year 12's. Because I am finding my work ridiculously easy I'm planning to submit a portfolio of sorts and ask to be moved up a year level, I understand this is fairly ambitious can anyone give me any ideas/tips for my github? Thanks In Advance EDIT: Current Suggestions Include: Make a pip package, website and open source projects

I like messing around with computers, doing meme things or just building simple and clean PCs. And with this hobby, I've got a list of projects that I am currently working on and plan on doing in the future. Some of these projects I may need help with (for easier solutions or on what things to get/use), and some may be a while before they can be started and/or completed (mainly due to physical space limitations). I'll likely be updating this thread/post with updates on active projects and such. May create additional threads for specific issues for help and whatnot, we'll see. I figured I'd make this thread to avoid having just a bunch of threads everywhere for short little projects/upgrades that don't really need their own full, fat thread in Build Logs. Planned projects: Active projects: OS installer, X58 system I'm probably going to order the things required to make the "universal installer stick" (UIS?), since it would aid in OS experimentation on the X58 system I'm going to be picking up soon. Found a cheap dual socket LGA1366 board and some cheap Xeons, I may make my server sooner than anticipated. Updates: I have the M.2 in its enclosure, and its running great. However, I've run into the problem where the Windows 95 through Windows ME isos don't boot, they just go to the grub menu. I ordered some unopened Vista discs that I will rip into ISOs to put on my USB drive, and I will do some testing in VMs with the early Windows ISOs to see if they work before I burn them to the drive. I also finally was able to get an X58 board, which is a MSI X58 Platinum and it will come with 12GB of DDR3 and an i7-920. I will order a cooler and SSD once I have an estimate on when the system will arrive.

Hi, I’m keen to toy with a Gigabyte Pico board. Either an ex dev or prototype board is fine. It’s for an open source project I’m working on to do poc for miniature embedded centos server for remote deployment. https://www.gigabyte.com/au/Motherboard/GA-PICO3350-rev-10#ov So far I’ve played parrot ping pong being guided to gigabyte m2m implementors and back to gigabyte with neither getting anywhere. No one has one for sale and it’s been public since Sept 2019. It’s one of the worlds smallest x86 instruction set based micro nano board. Any ideas where to try next would be awesome. Thanks in advance.

I watched linus's video about the 1 CPU 10 gamers and wanted to replicate it(smaller scale obviously). Got the hardware and get the conecpt but i dont understand how you can run 2 diffrent instances of windows independently on one CPU. Surely using more HDD and SSD is an option but how would you boot from both or one for each GPU? Please help!

So, as I'm getting more and more into technology, I've started to see some of the cool things that can be done with the rPI. I already think that I'm going to build a small DNS caching machine using one. But, I wanted to know if you guys could recommend any fun, and easy projects that can be done as time wasters and as a way to learn some of the coding involved. Whether you've done them or not, leave any suggestions below! Thanks in advance! -JGunnz

I know there is a forum for power supplies but I also have a couple of other questions. I like old computers, and as part of that I like to tinker with them and see what they are capable of. With that said I have learned from past exp. to not use old ass computers w/ the power supplies you found them in, unless you want to kill it. So I have bought an extra power supply to keep this from happening. But my question is should I worry about the power supply as far as swapping it out from one computer to another. It's a basic Evga 80+ 430w power-supply. The other question is that currently I am working with an old e machine and want to know about the cpu in it, it's an Athlon 64 3400+ @2.2 ghz. What I want to know is this processor considered the contender to the P4 in terms of performance? (The series in general really) I'm just trying to see what I can expect from it(and faster versions of this chip) and I have a pretty good idea of p4's so if it's on that track I can know.

I have a few old gateway and HP systems that I got from my uncle (I'm getting like 6 more too ) and I have no idea what to do with them project wise. Their power supplies are worth about $40 bucks each but I feel like these computers can still be used for something. wat do

I'm really sorry, I'm sure you guys get this question a lot. I want to start working on small games and other projects, the kind of stuff you could do in Scratch in an hour or two, but with actual code. What language should I do this in? I have previously dabbled in JavaScript (the most I have made is a rock-paper-scissors game) and I have just about scratched the surface of Python, Ruby, and jQuery. If it helps, I do know fairly advanced HTML and CSS. Furthermore, what should I learn this language with? I have found that Codecademy was not very application-oriented and focused more on basic, browser-popup based stories and games. Thus, my knowledge is quite limited. Thank you for you time.

Does anyone have ideas on software and/or websites that I could make just as a side project and work on open source? I'm just looking for projects that don't require all of my time but that I can spend a decent amount of time working on as I get time to work on it. So far I plan on making an application to check my bank status as I don't currently have one for windows phone. I'm also working on a VERY simple chat application that's encrypted, I'll post the github later if anyone at all is interested. I'm just looking for other ideas or anything cool to work on, any suggestions are appreciated!

there once was a similar topic but that is long dead, i decided to bring is back to see if i could fetch some more contributions, this thread is mainly made with boinc in mind but folders can drop by aswell, i'm just curious if there is any particular reasoning or interest that makes you donate the otherwise probably mostly unused processing power to the projects you are, share how you stumbled upon boinc or folding if you feel like it. doesn't have to be anything grand, maybe you just trust one project over the other to get anything useful out of the data.

Personaly i like to concept of more then one operating systems but not the way you put on components and i think its a little pricey

http://www.dailytech.com/IBM+Introduces+Two+New+Watson+Projects+for+the+Medical+Field/article33555.htm IBM announced two new Watson projects aimed to specifically help the medical sector: “WatsonPaths” and “Watson EMR Assistant." IBM collaborated with brilliant minds at Cleveland Clinic Lerner College of Medicine of Case Western Reserve University to make the projects possible. WatsonPaths shows Watson's course of thinking, from the initial question to how it arrives at an answer. In between is Watson uses information from reference materials, clinical guidelines and medical journals to calculate conclusions that either support or refute a set of hypotheses -- just like human thinking. The point of WatsonPaths is to help medical professionals look at new ways of consuming medical information and thinking to arrive at the best treatment options. IBM also said that it could eventually help medical students learn how to search the latest medical information quickly and study critical reasoning pathways. As for Watson EMR Assistant, it allows for a quicker and more thorough understanding of a patient’s electronic medical records. EMRs can be very dense and contain too much information to read in a short period of time, but Watson EMR Assistant takes in the EMR data and makes sense of it all to create a complete analysis much quicker than a human doctor can. The doctor can then use Watson EMR Assistant to make quick and accurate medical diagnoses. "On 'Jeopardy!' it was not necessarily critical to know how Watson arrived at its answer. But doctors or domain experts in any field will want to understand what information sources Watson consulted, what logic it applied and what inferences it made in arriving at a recommendation,” said Eric Brown, IBM Research Director of Watson Technologies. “Through our research collaboration with Cleveland Clinic, we've been able to significantly advance technologies that Watson can leverage to handle more and more complex problems in real time and partner with medical experts in a much more intuitive fashion. These are breakthrough technologies intended to assist future versions of Watson products." Overall, the projects have improved Watson's cognitive computing abilities for a more "natural" interaction between Watson and medical staff. Watson competed with human contestants on "Jeopardy!" back in 2011. A little later, IBM thought about using Watson's DeepQA software to answer sales questions about the company through telemarketing calls. (Copied from dailytech)
