  1. Netbeans

    Hey My friend is starting to code and I was wondering if netbeans is a good IDE for beginners
  2. public class PlayerMovement : MonoBehaviour { public float speed = 900f; public Rigidbody2D Rgb; // Use this for initialization void Start () { Rgb = GetComponent<Rigidbody2D> (); } // Update is called once per frame void Update () { float Haxis = Input.GetAxis ("Horizontal") * speed * Time.deltaTime; Vector2 Move = new Vector2 (Haxis, 0); Rgb.velocity = (Move * speed); } } Okay so I've got the movement of my character sorted but despite everything i try i can't seem to make my character jump, any help will be appreciated .

  4. Hi! So recentely I was going through some old boxes and found my old laptop. To my surprise, it was still working but the OS was broken to the point I couldn't even connect to the internet. I installed Windows 10 just to see what happens, it was too much for it, as it has 1GB of RAM and has an intel T2130 CPU, 2 cores @ 1.86 GHz. I decided to go for Linux, as I've heard there are distros designed to be lightweight to run smoothly on old PC's. I chose Lubuntu, downloaded it and installed. The problem is, I have never used Linux. I thought installing my standard software would be easy, but installing additional libraries to Code::Blocks... Oh man. On my main rig with Windows, installing SMFL library was simple, I had to download it and link it in Code::Blocks. But I struggle with it on Linux. It would be easier if I had a 64-bit version, because there is an already working SFML pack for that, but because of my CPU I can only use 32 bit OS, and the only way to get SMFL for 32 bit Linux is to build it yourself with Cmake, which I tried to do but my code still won't compile after linking my project to freshly built SFML. I would really appreciate some help with that, it's my first adventure with Linux and I'm not entirely sure what to do.
  5. I do a fair bit of virtualization, a lot less gaming than I used to, more and more scraping, and voip -- sometimes all at the same time -- I know... yolo. I had 16 GB of RAM, but was starting to feel it drag. It isn't dragging anymore, but now I want to squeeze every last bit of performance out of this system. Where do I start? 3rd party software? Power profiles? Advanced system settings? Is there a knob somewhere I can crank up to the max? In VirtualBox I literally increase memory allocated by using a slider. What about my in native system, Windows 10? Other key specs i7-7700HQ @ 2.8 GHz 250 GB SSD to boot 1 TB HD Storage GTX 1050 ti Something else cool that I can't think of here Oh, by the way, I'm on a 32-bit operating system. JK, its 64. All suggestions are super welcome, eh!
  6. i want to grab gpu information using opengl and when i type in the necessary code and include the header files: #include <GL/freeglut.h> #include <GL/glut.h> the program crashes and gives no specific error code. it just says The program has unexpectedly finished. i should include these two headers inorder to get the gpu info. i would appreciate if someone could suggest me on what i should look for or if theres another way to get this information using c++

    Hello, I trying to figure out how to get started with writing a program for my python class. I'm having trouble grasping loops and conditionals. I have completed this assignment before but without the use of loop structure. I've attached screenshots of both the new assignment and what I did previously to this post. Thanks in advance for any help.
  8. Hello guys! Currently I'm in the process of solving a c++ programming exercise for uni but can't really find my mistake. The program is supposed to encrypt a text by combining it with a key via the "^" operator. the encrypted string should then appear on the console. However my main function does not execute or take the encrypted variable from the encrypt function to display it. I'm very new to c++ so please be easy with me XD. Thanks for all thhe help! Anyway here's my code so far: #include <iostream> #include <string> using namespace std; string encrypt(string text, string key) { string result; string part; int k; for (int i = 1; i == text.length(); i++) { part = text.at(i) ^ key.at(k); result = result + part; if (k == key.length()) k = 1; else { k++; } } return result; } /* Hier beginnt das Hauptprogramm */ int main(int argc, char* argv[]) { string text = "Dies ist irgendein Text."; string key = "irgendein Passwort"; string crypt = encrypt(text, key); cout << "So lautet der verschluesselte Text: " << crypt << endl; return 0; }
  9.   12. so yes this is probably a simple question, i have done some searching about division and all videos and codes that i came across had a similar code to the one below which for them works nicely but for me it causes the application to crash. im doing this in QT and the application opens up, stays for couple of seconds and the loading icon in the cursor appears and the application goes not responding and asks me to force close. No output is showing up on screen when i tried it. Here's the code, Thank you: int i = 2; int b = 2; int ans = i/b; printf("out: %s\n", ans); //tried commenting the code above and typed in the one below with float variables but that gave the otput as null float i = 2.0; float b = 2.0; float ans = i/b; printf("out: %s\n", ans);
  13. I am currently in the market of looking for a new laptop (my old one does not handle multitasking very well) Current System Aspire E5-772G ( 17.3" - i5-5200U - 1TB HDD - 8GB RAM ) I currently have two laptops selected ROG Strix GL702ZC (17" - Ryzen 7 1600 - 256 GB SSD - 16 GB RAM - RX 580) Sager NP8370 (Clevo PA71HP6-G) (17.3" - 256 GB SSD + 1 TB HHD - 16 GB RAM) SAGER NP5872 (CLEVO N870HL) ( 17.3" - 256 GB SSD + 1TB HHD - 32 GB RAM) AORUS X7 V6 ( 17.3" - i7-6820HK - 512 GB SSD + 1TB HHD - 16 GB RAM ) Razer Blade Pro 17 ( 2017 ) 1080p (17.3" - i7-7700K - 16 GB RAM - 256GB SSD + 2 TB HDD) Gigabyte P57Xv7 ( 17.3" - i7-7700HQ - 256 GB SSD + 1TB HHD - 16G RAM ) Dell XPS 15 ( 15.6" - i7-7700HQ - 512 GB SSD - 16 GB RAM - GTX 1050 ) I would like to run some VMs (more than 1), couple instances of an IDE ( InteliJ Idea and Rider / Visual Studio ), and sideload Ubuntu (Driver support). 14. hello, i have decided to set up a chart in QT and I have used this: https://doc.qt.io/qt-5/qtcharts-piechart-main-cpp.html as reference for making it. I got it running but I do not know how to adjust it's size or position it at a specific location in the window. What it currently does is it takes up the entire window space when running and whatever the other labels and buttons i have all get covered by it. If anyone could suggest a way to achieve this it would be great help. Thank you

  16. Hiding CMD window using C++

    im writing a QT window application and im using popen to use CMD to run a command, get its output and display it. when running it open the cmd window for like a second and goes out. the code works and i get my output in the label . I do not like seeing that cmd window pop up so i want to know if there's a method to hide the window when its running. Thank you #include <iostream> #include <stdexcept> #include <stdio.h> #include <string> std::string exec(const char* cmd) { char buffer[128]; std::string result = ""; FILE* pipe = popen(cmd, "r"); if (!pipe) throw std::runtime_error("popen() failed!"); try { while (!feof(pipe)) { if (fgets(buffer, 128, pipe) != NULL) result += buffer; } } catch (...) { pclose(pipe); throw; } pclose(pipe); return result; }
  17. I have a problem with one task. The main content of this task is that we are given n intervals [a;b] and number k. We have to find the maximum common range of any k intervals and print the indexes of intervals that have maximum common range. On the left side is an input - the first 2 numbers are respectively n - number of intervals, and k - number of any intervals having a maximum common range. The next are n lines. Each one has 2 numbers, a and b, and they are representing the interval [a;b].On the right side is the output. The first line contains the maximum common range of any k intervals. The next line contains k indexes of intervals that have maximum common range.The indexes of the intervals are as follows:[3; 8] → index 1[4; 12] → index 2[2; 6] → index 3 [1; 10] → index 4 [5; 9] → index 5 [11; 12] → index 61 ≤ k≤ n ≤ 10000001 ≤ a <b ≤ 109The available memory is only 128 MB, so I suppose that I can't implement interval tree for this task, but maybe i'm wrong.The code to optimized brute-force (I only print the maximum common range but have to print the indexes as well. Can anyone tell me how to implement a faster algorithm? #include <iostream> #include <algorithm> #include <queue> using namespace std; constexpr int MAX = 1000007; int n, k_range, range_check; struct rangeof { int p, k; int nr; void read(int i) { cin >> p >> k; nr = i; } }; rangeof tabp[MAX]; int maximum = 0; bool sort_by_first(const rangeof & z1, const rangeof & z2) { if (z1.p < z2.p) return true; else if (z1.p == z2.p && z1.k > z2.k) return true; return false; } struct range { int p, k; }; bool visited[MAX]; int range(const rangeof & z) { return z.k - z.p; } bool reached_k = false; void do_odd1(rangeof z1, int i, int k) { rangeof pom; while (++i <= n && ++k <= k_range) { if (z1.k <= tabp[i].p) return; pom.p = max(z1.p, tabp[i].p); pom.k = min(z1.k, tabp[i].k); int dl = range(pom); if (reached_k && dl <= maximum) { --k; continue; } if (k == k_range) { if (!reached_k) reached_k = true; if (dl > maximum) maximum = dl; --k; continue; } do_odd1(pom, i, k); --k; } } void do_main() { for (int i = 1; i <= range_check; ++i) { if (!visited[i]) { do_odd1(tabp[i], i, 1); } } } int main() { std::ios_base::sync_with_stdio(0); cin >> n >> k_range; range_check = n - k_range - 1; for (int i = 1; i <= n; ++i) { tabp[i].read(i); } std::sort(tabp + 1, tabp + n + 1, sort_by_first); do_main(); cout << maximum << endl; } Thanks in advance
  18. I'm searching for a programming laptop and I'm pretty interested in the New Dell Inspiron 15 5000 gaming laptop. Specifically this configuration http://www.dell.com/en-ca/shop/dell-laptops-netbooks-and-tablets/new-inspiron-15-5000-gaming-intel/spd/inspiron-15-5577-gaming-laptop/ni155577_btsb_s405e. It's got 512 GB PCIE SSD, 16 GB of RAM, and i7 7700 HQ and the price seems pretty darn good. Anyone have any info regarding the screen, cooling, and typing experience? The dell page gives you so little info. Or if anyone is from Canada specifically around the GTA does anyone know if there's a store that sells this so I can test it in person?

  24. so this is probably a easy thing i guess but i haven't managed to figure this out myself or managed to find a explanation for this online. i'm very new to C++. im using QT and i have a label in my GUI, i want to display some text in it. this is what i have tried but i keep getting ui was not declared in the scope. #include "mainwindow.h" #include "ui_mainwindow.h" #include <QApplication> int main(int argc, char *argv[]) { ui->label->setText("hello"); QApplication a(argc, argv); MainWindow w; w.show(); return a.exec(); } i have also tried this in the main method but no luck. Ui::MainWindow->label->setText("hello"); error i got for this was: expected unqualified-id before '->' token Ui::MainWindow->label->setText("hello");
  25. Oracle MAF and IOException

    Alright so I don't know how many people will be able to answer this but I'll give it a shot. So I am using Oracle MAF to play around with phone apps and stuff and I am using HTMLUnit as a library (headless browser). When I use it in the code the IOException causes hiccups in the program. I'm only trying to test stuff out right now and I don't really know why IOException is causing an issue. I've tested only initializing the browser and that works, but as soon as I execute any code with IOException I get errors. The code below is just my test to see if it will work in JDeveloper through an IOS simulator. So far it doesn't work in the simulation, but it does in Eclipse as a command line java program. package mobile; import oracle.adfmf.amx.event.ActionEvent; import com.gargoylesoftware.htmlunit.WebClient; import com.gargoylesoftware.htmlunit.html.HtmlPage; import java.io.IOException; public class hr { public hr() { } //on button click execute this code public void doaction(ActionEvent actionEvent)throws IOException{ //initialize headless browser WebClient webClient = new WebClient(); HtmlPage currentPage; //get url currentPage = webClient.getPage("http://www.google.com/"); String test = currentPage.getTitleText(); //print title of webpage System.out.println(test); } } The error that it is throwing is attached in an image. Also the command line error is below: [SEVERE - oracle.adfmf.framework - Utility - invoke] InvocationTargetException Error: oracle.adfmf.framework.exception.AdfException Let me know if you guys have any insight, it would be much appreciated. Also, I know AdfException works, but I don't know how I could use it with HTMLUnit. Thanks in advance.
