  1. im facing this weird situation where my ID columns which has been set to auto increment skips numbers, jumps numbers by 2 or 3 and sometimes it jumps a number then later goes back to the number which was missed and continues from there. once my ID even jumped by 1000. i googled this problem and i found this solution where i have to go to SQL server service, go to start up parameters and insert -t272. i have also posted a screenshot on this. i hope i did that right. after that it didnt jump a 1000 but it still keeps doing this jumping by 2 and 3 and sometimes going back. i have posted a screenshot on this as well. it happen in random tables and at random times so i have not find it possible to detect a pattern and tell when it will happen again
  2. Hello, i'm trying to make the damage of the sword random, i mean it is but its not changing values and its always the same import time from random import randint #Player stats player_hp = 100 player_dmg = 20 player_gold = 100 iron_sword = 1 gold_sword = 0 #Enemy stats enemy_hp = 100 enemy_dmg = 10 #Swords if iron_sword ==1: player_dmg = (randint(20,30)) if gold_sword ==1: player_dmg = (randint(30,40)) #Base turn_cycle = True while turn_cycle: print("Player is attacking") enemy_hp = (enemy_hp - player_dmg) print("Player did" , player_dmg , "dmg, enemy has" , enemy_hp , "hp left!") time.sleep(2) print("") print("Enemy is attacking") player_hp = (player_hp - enemy_dmg) print("Enemy did" , enemy_dmg , "dmg, player has" , player_hp , "hp left!") print("") if enemy_hp < 1: print("you won") player_gold = player_gold + 10 turn_cycle = False elif player_hp < 1: print("you lost") turn_cycle = False the player_damage is always the same.. so is there any way i can refresh it or something?
  3. Does anybody know good books/ebooks that can help you learn C++ in a timely manner?
  4. Hi all, i'm writing a small program for my workplace. I want to be able to monitor the CPU and Memory usage of a remote system. Here's the tricky part. Basically, i get the total system memory of the remote system by using for /f "tokens=2 delims==" %%f in ('wmic /node:%PCName% os get totalphysical /value ^| find "="') do set "TotalMemory=%%f" which returns a value greater than what batch can handle. I then get the free memory of the system and subtract the two in order to find how much memory is being used. I then divide it by 1024 in order to get to MB and GB and percent being used. Is there any way i can do the calculation without running into this limitation?
  5. Hey, does anybody know how to type in exact measurements an move Objects very precisely (via Shortcuts) in SketchUp Make 2017?
  6. so I've got a code that I've started in a program called BlueJ, a work environment used for java. The program I am trying to write is basically a wizard school quiz to find out which school you belong to. If you need to get an Idea if what im trying to make, Im basically trying to replicate the intro quiz from wizard101, which can be found here: https://www.wizard101.com/create_wizard/?utm_campaign=disp_ad2games&utm_source=ad2games.18470_3278p&utm_medium=display&utm_content=wizard If anyone could help me out, I just need help figuring out how to set up basic choices kind of like an A,B,C,D sort of quiz. I just want to learn the fundamentals of writing a small quiz. I am a few weeks into an AP Computer Science class and I just sort of want to learn this concept a little before it is taught. Here is my code so far:
  7. Here's the links for the two builds being proposed. The AMD Threadripper 1950X build: https://pcpartpicker.com/list/zgk7tJ The i7-8700K build: https://pcpartpicker.com/list/zzCvBP What I want to know is if either of these builds will bottleneck on the GPU or CPU, and which is the best for the intended use, which is going for high speed game development, as well as testing and gaming. This is a purely hypothetical build scenario, proposed mostly out of curiosity. Additionally, the initial price tag is no more than $6000 USD, and I do kind of want to preserve the RGB as if I were to spend this much money on a PC, it might as well look cool. And it can be used to monitor system temperature and fan speeds. In theory. EDIT: I should also point out that I would at least make an attempt at overclocking both processors, so it's a matter of which can achieve the least bottle-necking and the best game design productivity and gaming performance when testing high fidelity games (or playing other games for inspiration).

  9. Python Homework Help with Loops

    Hello, I trying to figure out how to get started with writing a program for my python class. I'm having trouble grasping loops and conditionals. I have completed this assignment before but without the use of loop structure. I've attached screenshots of both the new assignment and what I did previously to this post. Thanks in advance for any help.
  10. Hey, So yesterday I installed KDE Neon on my laptop which surprisingly worked after like the 6th try however it's been awhile since I've actively used linux for anything other than running the occasional server. So I was wondering, what IDE would you guys recommend using? I'm looking for something that I can easily compile C/C++ code in, that has a dark look so it's easy on my eyes, it would also need to be able to allow me to build code from inside the IDE rather than having to manually build my code in a terminal. Optionally it would be nice if the IDE also supported Python and Core JavaScript or allowed me to define new syntax highlighting definitions.

  14. Trying to make a Heads or Tails program in Python, here is what I have right now: import time from random import * def computerChoice(z): Z = (randint(0,1)) if Z == 1: print("Heads") elif Z == 0: print ("Tails") return(z) def anwser(x): x = (randint(0,1)) if x == 1: print("Heads") elif x == 0: print ("Tails") return (x) playerChoice = input("Heads or Tails: ").upper() if playerChoice == 'HEADS' or 'TAILS': print ("You chose:", playerChoice) time.sleep(0.1) print ("Computer chose:", computerChoice) The problem is that at the last line instead of printing 'Heads' or 'Tails' it prints this: <function computerChoice at 0x030DFF18>
  15. need help with python program

    You might of saw me already with an earlier version of this program, I have now finished it but there is one bug. Everything works fine but the "You won" and "You lost" statements, it seems to be kinda random. But here's the code: INFORMATION: PYTHON 3.6.2 import time from random import * def computerChoice(): Z = (randint(0,1)) if Z == 1: return("HEADS") elif Z == 0: return ("TAILS") def anwser(): x = (randint(0,1)) if x == 1: return("HEADS") elif x == 0: return ("TAILS") playerChoice = input("Heads or Tails: ").upper() if playerChoice == 'HEADS' or playerChoice == 'TAILS': print ("You chose:", playerChoice) time.sleep(0.2) print ("Computer chose:", computerChoice()) time.sleep(0.2) print("The anwser was: ", anwser()) if playerChoice == anwser(): print("you won") elif computerChoice == anwser(): print("you lost")
  16. GPU Farm Advice

    Hello, I am in the US and am looking to spend up to $2200 (USD) total on a GPU farm. Applications include coin mining (planning to start with Ethereum), Blender rendering (better than my GTX750ti), and password cracking (I'm a cybersecurity student). IMPORTANT::: All of these applications rely on computing power, and not bandwidth (so using PCI 1x with a Celeron for 16 GPUs is okay). I can't use a mining os because I need to be able to run hashchat and blender, so I'm probably going to end up on some lightweight Ubuntu because I'm good with Debian. I'd like any and all advice/tips/suggestions/warnings/death-threats/love-letters you are willing to give. For a start, I'm currently looking at this: Thanks in advance!
  17. Thoughts on Rust?

    Like the title suggests, what are your thoughts on the Rust language? I plan to experiment with it once I have some spare time.
  18. I've used multiple monitors before. I found them to take up a lot of space yet boosts productivity. I'm back in college and programming again and I have a 24" display. I plan on getting a secondary that could be vertically sitting on my desk for mainly coding and also for other things when I'm not working. Could you guys recommend any rotatable monitors? I would also be ok with buying this cheap monitor and a VESA mount but I can't figure out if it will fit on the side of my desk. (Picture attached).
  19. i have a column called ID in my table and i have set it to increase by 1 when new data is inserted. when i inserted data like 3 times the ID was 3 but when i added another record instead of showing the ID as 4 it showed 6. i checked my auto increment settings and it was set to increase by 1. i didnt understand what was happening so i dropped the table, made a new one and started entering data. the first time i entered the ID was one but the second time i inserted it showed 4 as ID and the third time in inserted a record ID was 6. what is actually going on? im inserting data using the edit table data mode in sql server however the first time i tried it was using C# and i got the same issue. is this some error in sql server 2014 or am i doing something wrong?
  20. Hi! I'm a law student and hobbyist programmer. I'm located in Norway. Together with my girlfriend I run a medium sized eyelash-extension salon. I'm currently using a 12" MacBook. In the past I've built one gaming rig, but that's a few years ago, and I'm not too caught up on the latest hardware. My new build will be used for two things: Software development (mainly python/node.js for web app development with Google AppEngine. I use the PyCharm IDE. This is not too demanding, and runs ok on my MacBook, but with occasional, but very annoying slowdowns. This work is not too demanding, but I don't mind spending some extra cash to have maximum performance in this area. Business analysis. I've created an Excel sheet that pulls data from Google Analytics and thousands of booking confirmation e-mails and analyses things such as customer retention, conversion rates and other trends. A few moths my MacBook was able to pull it off, however horrifically slowly (a few hours of calculation until the results were ready). The dataset has now become too large for the MacBook to handle. It grinds to a halt and Excel often crashes. I realize now that using Excel for this task is not ideal, however spending some extra money on a computer that can handle it is a better option for me than redesigning the whole thing using a different system. I have enough money for a new computer, but not enough time in my schedule to redesign the analysis system. It's not too much of a problem if it still takes a while to finish, as I only do the analysis once every other week or so. I will not be doing any gaming, photo editing or video editing. Because of this I figure I can get away with using integrated graphics. I would however, like to have 3 monitors. I don't save lots of data either. I can fit everything I use in about 200 GB, so 512 GB should give me more than enough room for the foreseeable future. Budget: preferably around 1900 USD. The build I currently have in mind: Intel Core i5-7600K ASUS Prime Z270-A (3 video outputs) Intel TS15A CPU Air Cooler Corsair Vengeance LPX DDR4 3000MHz 16GB Samsung 960 PRO 512GB M.2 PCIe SSD Cooler Master CM Force 500 Midi Tower EVGA BQ 600W Hybrid Modular 80+ PSU 3x Samsung 22" LED S22F350H HDMI cable (already have one) DisplayPort -> HDMI cable (already have one) DVI cable (already have one) Windows 10 I have a mouse and keyboard lying around somewhere. Build price from Norwegian retailer komplett.no, including shipping and VAT: 1850 USD. Does this seem like a reasonable build for my tasks? Would you suggest any changes?
  21. so idk how it happened but i think i have installed sql server 2014 twice in my system and i have 2 instances. so i uninstalled the instance that i created and it was the only instance which showed up in the wizard to uninstall it. however after uninstalling that i searched for sql server in my pc and it wasnt there.since there were 2 instances i should still be able to access sql server even after uninstalling one instance right? because i was unable to find it i thought everything got uninstalled so i installed sql server again and when i open it up i still have 2 instances in it! and this time when i try to login to one instance it gave me this Named Pipes Provider, error 40 - Could not open a connection to' SQL Server' error. i found the solution for this online and it was to activate the sql server service which was stopped from services.msc or sql server 2014 configuration manager but it gave me a error saying "the request failed or the service did not respond in a timely fashion". so i have decided to uninstall sql server once again and when i tried to uninstall sql server 2014 64bit from add or remove programs it asked me to uninstall some other sevices first so i uninstalled all sql server 2014 services that showed up in add or remove programs and when i try to uninstall sql server 2014 64 bit it gave me this error shown in the screenshot. what is going on? How do i fully uninstall sql server 2014 from my PC and so that i can start off with a fresh install? Any help would be greatly appreciated as i have wasted 2 days trying to get this thing running. Thanks.
  22. i am trying to display a text file which has a couple of words written in it using a message box . i have tried the code shown below but i ran in to a error saying: An unhandled exception of type 'System.IO.IOException' occurred in mscorlib.dll Additional information: The user name or password is incorrect. I have set the permissions of this folder as full control to Everyone in advance sharing setting and im sure that the connection between the 2 computers have been correctly established as im able to ping the two computers. what i think the program get this error is because it doesnt have the username and password to get into the other computer. if i am correct then how do i put in the username and password in the code? i have done some searching but i havent found anything that works. im trying this in C# windows forms and if some one could help me i would really appreciate it. var data = File.ReadAllText(@"\\192.168.1.1\foldername\filename.txt"); MessageBox.Show(data);
  23. so i have been searching for this in the internet and i have seen many people recommending to use IDs of hardware such as processors and HDD's ID. they have also recommended to use multiple ID's from different hardware because the chances that two or more people could have the exact same hardware are pretty less. if i decide to use processor ID and HDD ID to identify a computer uniquely and give them a key is it a good idea? and what happens if by any chance a person does have the same Processor and HDD as another registered user. any idea how to handle such problems?
  24. Hi guys, long time fan of linus, but this is the first time i'm posting cause i need some advice. So from the title, i got $8000 for a new rig. I am a gaming guy, hardcore, but I'm not soooo much into RGB cause mainly I feel they just add the ability of RGB and charge a premium for stuff. That being said, i do like a little bit of flare in my system. So what is this going to be used for? This is mainly going to be used for gaming AND programming (My Job) AND Ethical Hacking (also my job). I don't edit videos nor would i ever intend to so this build is not for that. Let me explain what i mean by each. Gaming: Mostly First Person, i just like story mode most of the times, but i do like online multiplayer like The division and probably Destiny 2. No RPG, not interested, don't have the time. Programming: Now this is crucial, i will have more than a few editors open, a local server running, apache, MySQL, MongoDB, PHP, Java, Go, Rust running for different stuff. Ethical Hacking: I will get a gigabit connection (should not be a problem). The reason why i have this is that i will running a few VM's at least (2-3 VM's having at least 2 cores each and 2 GB ram.). My Preferences: I will have 3 OS'. Windows (Mainly for Gaming), Linux (For lot of stuff), MacOS (my job kinda needs it). I really want Windows on separate SSD and Linux, MacOs on another. I will need a large 10 TB storage as well. Note: If having MacOS trouble's the boot, then lets forget about it for now. My Current List: Intel - Core i9-7900X 3.3GHz 10-Core Processor Asus - STRIX X299-E GAMING ATX LGA2066 Motherboard G.Skill - Trident Z RGB 64GB (4 x 16GB) DDR4-3600 Memory (The non-RGB version i think was like 10 bucks lesser so thought might as well. Unless i was looking at something else.) Samsung - 960 EVO 500GB M.2-2280 Solid State Drive x 2 ( i know with this motherboard i need to get an m.2 stand as well for the second one) Seagate - BarraCuda Pro 10TB 3.5" 7200RPM Internal Hard Drive (Raw storage.) Asus - GeForce GTX 1080 Ti 11GB STRIX GAMING Video Card Corsair - 860W 80+ Platinum Certified Fully-Modular ATX Power Supply (Should be enough I think) Corsair - K95 RGB PLATINUM Wired Gaming Keyboard SteelSeries - Rival 700 Wired Optical Mouse 3x Monitors ( a programmers setup) 1 ASUS PG27UQ (when it comes out) (Center Placement, for gaming and having my editor open) 2 x Dell Monitors for just good clarity. I don't need anything special with them (left and Right Placement) Processor and GPU will be water cooled. Mostly EK blocks. I need a good looking case. Current Contenders are Corsair - 900D ATX Full Tower Case (This will need a lot of work to make it look good) Lian LI PC Desk, but i don't like the glaring color that would come from the desk cause it'll directly hit my eyes and i would end up covering which defeats the whole purpose. (need more suggestions, something transparent.) This PC will be running for days together before a shutdown so please keep that in mind when suggesting case and cooling equipment. Please know that NONE of these components i have, and they all can be changed. I will be getting this in Jan or Feb of 2018. Reason for the advance thinking is to get some stuff in the different offers coming up for the holidays. I know this is a lot to ask and i know this might end up being a really long discussion but i am sooooo tired of all the different websites 'claiming' a certain equipment is best that now i just look for personal experiences more than their claim. Finally Thanks for reading this long requirement and i hope i get some decent advice. ** HAIL Linus **
  25. i asked this question like a week ago,asking it again as i still havent managed to find a proper solution. im trying to stream video files between 2 computers where 1 acts as the server and contains the video files the other is the client that is accessing them remotely. i have been directed to this code shown in the site: http://csharpmagics.blogspot.com/2008/11/stream-video-over-lan-using-cnet.html and so i did try it but when i run it nothing happens. no errors or anything the 2 forms just stay open and nothing is shown. i did change the IP address to the loopback address (127.0.01) as at the moment im using a single PC to test if this is working and the site also says loop back address should work. i also did put a path in my computer with a mp4 video file. i dont see any other changes i should do to that code. i tried what i could by going through the code to spot any mistakes but i dont understand the code very well so i might be missing something. it would be very helpful if someone could help me figure out what the problem is. the method shown in the site is the only method i came across and there were comments that it works.if u know any other better way please do comment below but in a simple way as i am not very good at programming. thanks
