Budget (including currency): Total PC build: $1000-1400 USD Country: United States Games, programs or workloads that it will be used for: CAD, Oracle Virtual Box, VB & Java programming, Star Wars Battlefront II (2017), Civilization 4+ Other details (Refurbished) Intel(R) Core(TM) I5-3470 CPU @ 3.20GHz 3.20GHz, Installed RAM 12.0 GB, Win 10 OS Hi all, I am going into aerospace engineering, likely going to be doing CAD and I already have done some programming, and am needing to upgrade (seriously upgrade) my PC. I am also a gamer, who likes to play new-title, high-graphics, FPS and RTS PC games. I was wanting some advice as to what processor I should invest in? I am not partial to Intel or AMD. Hello all! I've been watching Linus Tech Tips for a little while now and although I am not a gamer, I appreciate reviews of enthusiast level products, CPU, GPU, etc. because I need them for complex data analysis. Long story short, I'm still using a membrane keyboard (rip me, I know) and I'd love to replace it with a good mechanical keyboard. Instead of sorting through 1000's of reviews on Newegg, I've come to this awesome forum for first hand experience and recommendations. I don't need a gaming keyboard with a bunch of fancy features (20 macro keys for example, although a few would be nice), rather, I'm looking for a keyboard that is pleasant to type on for hours on end, has a back light of some kind, and absolutely must support changing the key layout to Dvorak. My target price range is $50 to $100 dollars, what do you recommend? Thanks so much to everyone who provides their advice!! --Benegesserit

Hi, I am a programmer and my macbook pro mid 2009 is dying. I am willing to spend around 1000 usd on a laptop but there are too many out there to decide. I need a laptop that can run vm's, edit videos and a bunch of other things. I would love to get a mac because build quality and battery life is really important to me as well. I don't really game that much, but I would like something that can at least do casual gaming. Here are a few options that I found: Inspiron 15 7000 Gaming - 1100$ 7th Generation Intel® Core™ i7-7700HQ Quad Core (6MB Cache, up to 3.8 GHz) 16GB, 2400MHz, DDR4; up to 32GB 128GB Solid State Drive (Boot) + 1TB 5400RPM Hard Drive (Storage) NVIDIA® GeForce® GTX 1050Ti with 4GB GDDR5 74 Whr, 6-Cell Battery (Integrated) 15.6-inch FHD (1920 x 1080) IPS Anti-Glare LED-Backlit Display http://www.dell.com/en-us/shop/cty/pdp/spd/inspiron-15-7567-laptop/dndnf510s?oc=dndnf510s&l=en&s=dhs&selectionState=eyJGUHJpY2UiOjEwOTkuOTksIk9DIjoiZG5kbmY1MTBzIiwiUXR5IjoxLCJNb2RzIjpbeyJJZCI6NTcyLCJPcHRzIjpbeyJJZCI6IkZHMDA0NCJ9XX1dfQ%3D%3D Alienware 15 4K - 1069$ Screen Size 15.6 inches Max Screen Resolution 3840 x 2160 Processor 2.6 GHz Intel Core i7 RAM 16 GB DDR SDRAM Memory Speed 2133 MHz Hard Drive 1 TB HDD 7200 rpm + 256gb ssd Graphics Coprocessor geforce gtx 970m Chipset Brand nvidia Wireless Type 802.11 A/B, 802.11bgn, 802.11abg https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B01IABDY8A/ref=s9u_simh_gw_i3?ie=UTF8&fpl=fresh&pd_rd_i=B01IABDY8A&pd_rd_r=196b7f82-b198-11e7-bdb8-e32f1756b509&pd_rd_w=ULrL0&pd_rd_wg=P85kN&pf_rd_m=ATVPDKIKX0DER&pf_rd_s=&pf_rd_r=C6Y08XBHYRVP028YATZF&pf_rd_t=36701&pf_rd_p=1cf9d009-399c-49e1-901a-7b8786e59436&pf_rd_i=desktop I would really appreciate any help/tips with this. ch341a Can't use a programmer on a BIOS chip.
JelloBeat posted a topic in CPUs, Motherboards, and Memory
I tried reviving my BIOS using a programmer. My mobo is ASUS HERO XI (Wi-Fi). It failed to boot after one of the updates, and now I can't get anywhere in my PC, it just won't output anything. I have a very weird BIOS chip. (I attached a photo), and it can't be recognized by any of BIOS programming programs. I use a clip to connect to the chip itself, but I still can't program anything on it. My Q-code panel says "0F" (Microcode not loaded) if that'll help. Also, asus flashback doesnt work too. -
Hi - hope everyone is well. I'm a coder/programmer and I want to build a PC with Ryzen 9 3900x with occasional gaming (maybe once in a month). I only have a budget of USD 1300. Why Ryzen 9: ** I want to invest in good CPU which can serve me for long. ** It gives me flexibility of having multiple virtual machines. ** Can support 128GB RAM which I need for heavy programming and number crunching tasks. Any suggestions??

Hi I am a front-end developer and i am looking for a mouse similar to Logitech g300 but with even more buttons on the top, not on the side. I want to programme the buttons in a way to combine mouse click with keyboard key combination. for example: "leftMouseClick +(delay of some miliSecond) +Ctrl + c", I tried it with g300 but the Logitech utility doesn't allow to programme mouse click in combination with keyboard keys. I searched a lot but I cannot find any mouse with key more then g300 on the top. there are a shit load of mice available with a whole keyboard attached to them on the thumb side for playing MMO games, but I want something like g300 with 6 extra buttons instead of 4 or maybe more on the top. I came across 'keymouse' but it looks like shit and impractical.

Hi guys! I had been deciding these for a while now. I am a programmer as a hobbiyist and I wanted to buy a new PC. I was on a strict budget and came up with these. Will the following build suffice? I am not a hardcore programmer but I may do some mediocore stuff after a year or two, so shall I be taking this laptop : HP FHD Laptop Or this desktop? 1. i3 8100 2. B370 Motherboard (upcoming) 3. 8 GB DDR4 RAM 4. 128 GB SSD 5. Corsair Carbide Spec - 1 6. Corsair 450W PSU 7. BenQ FHD 21.5 inch monitor And I don't travel a lot. All suggestions are welcome Thank you

Hi! so next week is my birthday and I have saved about 2,000€ (about 2,239 USD, 2,911 CAD) for a complete new System. I'll have a pcpartpicker list at the end linked for you guys to adjust to your local prices/ best offer. Currently I am running my Lenovo T440p which is okay for work but it sucks at gaming and it takes a lot of time to build my android apps since it runs on an i5-4300M. So I am aiming for a nice machine which allows me to do my Android-App builds fast, has enough punch to run emulators, virtual machines since I like to fool around with Linux Systems and has the power to run games at 1440p. There will be two OS installed: ArchLinux for work and Win10 for fun. I really don't want a system which blinks/lights up and stuff - therefore the Fractal R5 w/o window! - it should be as silent as possible and should serve me a couple of years For now I chose these components: (prices are from amazon.de/geizhals.at which is an austrian/german price comparison site) processor: i7-6700k 340 € cooler: noctua nh-d15 89 € (I am a simple austrian, i see austrian products, i buy them ) motherboard: asus z170-A 150€ memory: Corsair Vengeance LPX 16GB (2 x 8GB DDR4-3000, CL15-17-17-35) 86 € case: Fractal Design R5 black 99€ ssd: samsung EVO 850 500 Gb 150 € (might be split into two one for my Arch Linux Installation and one for Windows 10) hdd: WD Green 3TB 105 € and now the two parts which i can't get my head around: psu: Corsair RMx 650W ~110€ (enough???) the RMx 750W would only cost 10€ more (according to this calulator my machine with some future upgrades draws 457W) additional info: i have some phones running on a powered usb hub, the occasional external 2.5'' external HDD for backups, 1-4 xbox 360 controllers, a mouse and my trusty cherry board mx 3.0 (browns) ot: man I love this keyboard graphics card: EVGA GTX 1070 SC /FTW ??? or the THE MSI Gaming X GTX 1070 ??? (a 2nd monitor should be ok in the future?) this should be around 1,580€ (about 1,769 USD, 2,299 CAD) - I still need a new monitor, mine is 10+ years old! LIST: PcPartPickerList comments on all parts but especially help with the psu and graphics card is much appreciated, as well where I could save a couple of €. A recommendation for a nice IPS 144Hz 1440p Monitor would be great but I guess it's OT here. Thank you guys in advance, greetings from the alps of Austria, and the obligatory "sry for my bad English"

Alright so I watch a lot of Eli the Computer Guy and he recommends starting with PHP as a first language. I am currently in the process of attaining my bachelors in computer science and I've honestly not ever programmed anything in my life. Just wondering if PHP was alright to start with I was thinking either that or python because I'm going to be taking a class for C++ so that would be kinda dumb to do that first any thoughts? I know a lot of people ask about a first language but none with php

Hi. I am currently running a dual monitor setup with an old 20" 1680x1050 display and a 22" FHD, both TN panels, and I want to replace the 20" with something new. I am a student and computer programmer so I work with a lot of code, documents and spreadsheets. I watch movies on my computer, but I don't care about gaming. My budget is roughly $350. After a lot of research, I have ended up with basically two options: - 25" 1440p 16:9 display - should give me more screen real estate and a slightly higher ppi without the need for scaling (I'm making all comparisons against my 22" FHD) (Dell U2515H or something similar) - 29" 1080p 21:9 display - this ultrawide option will give me a lot more horizontal space but won't improve vertical space and the ppi will actually be a bit lower (LG 29UM67-P or something similar) I think I should be able to comfortably place 3 text files next to each other on the ultrawide panel. That is something very useful for me. But I am afraid that the 1080p resolution won't be enough on this display size, especially when talking about vertical space. However, if I were to say that I don't have enough vertical space, the 25" 16:9 doesn't really solve the problem either. To complicate this a bit more, I plan on upgrading my other monitor in a few months when I move and get a much bigger desk. This means that I could potentially place a monitor vertically next to my ultrawide and have the best of both worlds. So, if you are a programmer or work with docs or spreadsheets and have experience with these kinds of displays, I would appreciate your feedback. What do you and what don't you like about them? Or would you recommend something else for me? Thanks a lot

Os.js is a javascript based Operating system. It is sleek, pretty fast and handles Multitasking pretty well. It comes pre-loaded with some basic applications like- A code editor, Writer, chat via gmail and many others. The best thing though is, it runs on a browser.

Hello! I need a programmer to interview via LTT messaging. I need to ask things like what is your name, how much you get payed, and what your education is. Please if your a programmer let me interview you. This for an English research paper and I just want to ask someone about programming anyway because I want to be a programmer in the future.

Hello guys, can you make me a nice PC setup for a programmer for relevant price? I need some performance, because I'm contributing on large scale projects and it takes a while on my MacBook Pro. Sometimes I do some computing stuff when I play around with math and graphics so GPU would be quite nice thing to have. I'd like to go up to 2000$. Thank you guys.
