Summary Intel is planning a major rebranding with their Core i-series processors by renaming them Core Ultra (insert 3/5/7/9 here) series instead. An example would be the Core Ultra 5 1003H. This rebranding is expected to start with the launch of mobile Meteor Lake processors. Quotes My thoughts This is pretty crazy to hear that Intel is doing a rebranding of their Core i brand to Core Ultra. Do they really want to confuse consumers more? Intel did post a terrible Q1 2023 earning with profits down so much its a first for Intel in history. I guess a rebranding is part of trying to change their image into a new company. The Core i7-1165G7 was just too much. Hello all, I need to buy a cheap laptop for school work. I found two laptops with mostly similar specs expect for the processors, one has a Pentium Gold 5405U while other one has a Celeron N4020. I can't decide which one to buy, or whether to buy these at all. So, I'd love to hear what you guys think. Thanks in advance

Hello, This is a follow up question to my previous one (here is a link if anyone is interested, ) In it I was trying to decide between a Pentium Gold 5405U and a Celeron N4020, but it came to my attention that the local store that sells these also has a option with an i3-1115G4, it's bit more expensive than the others. So, now I'm trying to decipher whether the extra cost of the i3 going to worth it or should I buy the Pentium instead? I'd love to hear what you guys have say. Thank you!

Hey guys, I've recently come to the conclusion that my current i5 4690k build is a bit outdated and that I need to upgrade a bit. I'm not super worried about being on the "cutting edge of performance" or anything, but I'd like to at least see a nice bump. I currently have a 4690k with 32GB DDR3. I use the computer mostly for gaming and simulations for work which are (from what the IT people tell me) optimized mainly for Intel CPUs, so I'd like to stay with Intel, despite the large performance gap currently see between the blue and red teams. I was looking at my local Micro Center and saw that the i9 9900k is only $320 over there right now, and will probably be even cheaper in the next month or so with Ryzen 5xxx series and black Friday/cyber Monday deals on the way. At this price point is the 9900k worth getting? Or should I just opt for a 10700k (10900k is a bit out of price range, the most I really want to spend on a CPU is ~$400) when the deals come around? (if I can get one) Just looking for some quick pointers, I've been out of the PC building game for quite a while and I'm not too knowledgeable on the more recent hardware. Thanks for the help.

Hey all! I was hoping to find some help here. I'm currently taking a class to prepare for my A+ certification, and learning how little I know. I know that AMD and Intel have butted heads since...however long, and that currently AMD is (subjectively) on top. I'm trying to write a paper doing a compare/contrast between the two. So I'm hoping you wonderful lot could help me answer a few questions: 1. Are there any fundamental physical differences between the two processor technologies? As in, I understand that some processors are PGA and some LGA, and made to work with various sockets, but is there a fundamental difference that radically separates AMD from Intel? Or is it simply two competing companies? 2. I've been told that AMD works better for graphically intense system needs, such as gaming. How accurate is this? I'm currently operating on an i7, and played through Doom Eternal with minimal issues. 3. On the inverse side of #2, would that mean Intel is a better choice for more business/research minded applications? 4. Is there a price point difference, i.e. is AMD or Intel wildly different in pricing? I'll be researching these questions on my own as well, but since i've come to find Linus' YouTube to be an excellent source of info over the past few years, I thought I'd stop in here and get some expert advice as well. Thanks in advance!

I have a i5-9600K and I'm wondering what GPU would pair better with it. A rtx 2060 super or a RX 5700 xt. I'm relatively new to PC gaming and need help choosing one considering they could bottleneck my CPU. I'm open to new recommendations on GPU's that could work better with it as well.

I only care about framerates in AAA games. is keeping your gaming rig balanced/non- bottlenecked really worth it if you can spend less and get better frame-rates? I'm running a i5-3470 with 16 gigs of ram @ 3.8 Ghz and gaming at 1080p . I can worry about bottlenecking and get something sensible like a 1070/1060(already using a 1060) or I cound spend a lot of money to get a new 6700k/7700k and pair it with a 1080/1080ti which would be very expensive. but what if I don't upgrade my old cpu and just simply buy an overkill 1080ti and game at1080p?!!! would a bottlenecked 1080ti+i5-3470 still give me better framerates than a balanced 1080/1070+7700k combo? does bottlenecking even matter if cost to performance ratio is better on simply upgrading the gpu?

Can somebody please make a chart pairing Intel CPUs with their closest AMD counterpart? I am building a new PC soon, and I am having trouble comparing whether I should get an AMD processor for my needs, or an Intel counterpart. If you somehow can, please include Ryzen CPUs! Thank you!

Hello everyone, This is my first post to the forums, so I'll do my best. I recently purchased an old gaming PC off one of my friends. Ill list the entire spec sheet below, but what I am mainly interested in is the processor. It has an AMD Athlon X2 7850 Black Edition. Have any of you guys had experience overclocking this processor? What was the best clock you all got? Also, at what voltage did you achieve the overclock? I am running the stock cooler on it at the moment, but will probably buy a Hyper 212 or something along those lines. Thanks for the help! PC Specs: Case: Lian Li PC-101A Silver Mobo: Asus M3N72-D CPU: AMD Athlon X2 7850 Black Edition RAM: 4gb (2x2) Corsair XMS2 DDR2 @1066 Mhz GPU: EVGA 9800GT (Looking to get another one for SLI) Storage: None (I have put a 120gb Crucial M4 SSD in there with windows 10 home) PSU: EVGA 80 Plus 600W (Came with an old Enermax Liberty ELT620AWT, which I took out to put in another system) P.S.: For anyone interested, I bought the PC for 90 dollars.

Hi I am currently interested in purchasing a small 1U rack server in place of my router at home, I currently have been dissatisfied with consumer routers especially from Linksys and NETGEAR since they always seem to be buggy. I am switching to a 1U rack server since they're pretty much enterprise routers from my understanding. My question is if a $50 server used online such as the Dell Poweredge R410 will be more powerful than say an Asus RT-AC5300? Are the Xeon 5500 series CPUs better than those internal CPUs from consumer routers? If that's the case, should I look into more cores, clock speed, more ram, or a good overall balance of the three? I'm thinking about running Windows Server 2008 with the server to perform my networking tasks. I hope I'm not making a mistake and wish to prevent it here thanks. Cheers, El_Gran_Técnico.

I want to build a GODLY system computer and I need advice and for someone to point me in the right direction. I either want to build 4/cpu system or a 8 cpu system with all XEON processors and at least 4 Titan's in SLI. Before all of you jump on me and laugh, keep in mind I am fairly new to system builds and am not an expert at all in this field. First of all I was a little disappointed to hear that windows 10 doesn't natively support more than 2 dual physical processors, so my question is, is there a workaround this issue. I'm thinking that there is some type of hack/modification for the end user to use more than 2 physical processors on windows 10, maybe a program (customized OEM of some sort or maybe a program that someone released) or some type of method to get around this issue. I'm sure (giving all the gaming mods and election hacking by the Russians and all the yahoo hacking) that there is some type of way to turn a windows server 2012 edition into a windows 10 version. My second question is: Do anyone know where I can get CUSTOM built motherboards? The reason why I ask is because I realize that I may run into a problem with ECC memory (depending on the configurations). Also, is it possible to order a CUSTOM built mother board capable of running 4 way SLI Titans (and yes, I heard that Nvidia currently only supports 2 way SLI, but I've heard that you can create profiles/hack/modify) without ECC memory?

So first and foremost, i understand that x99 is entirely overkill for gaming. An i5 7600k would be where i would stop if i wanted to game. But aside from fairly heavy gaming (GTA V, Witcher, Ark occasionally) i also do editing on my computer, fairly heavy music recording and editing, and a video here and there. Might pick up on video soon, who knows. In my music editing i usually have pretty complex project files with plenty of plugins, and I'm looking to the future for recording live drums which means recording several tracks at a time.My main question is, is going for even the cheapest x99 worth the extra cost for editing, and would i notice much difference on the gaming scope? Could i negate the differences by overclocking x99?My understanding is that under these circumstances, i would definitely benefit from the x99, but i want to know if its really THAT much better to be worth the cost. Also, someone has suggested Ryzen but I know next to nothing about Ryzen as compared to Intel. I'm not opposed, but I'm a bit biased towards Intel.

Hey so I'm just wondering if upgrading a CPU would be worth it, I was thinking running an i3 6100 for at least half a year, and then upgrading to an i5 6600 or something along the lines. I will be pairing this with an amd rx 470 video card. So overall I was epndering if it should be done. I'd love to here other's opinions and suggestion. Also I'd appreciate it if you guys could recommend me a cheap atx that's compatible. Thanks again.

Basically I have a few builds, please help me choose which build to go iwht So these are the two parts R5 1500x R5 1600 Gigabyte GTX 1060 6GB / 3GB (I need help with that too) 16gb ram 8gb ram - both 2400MHz 550W Power Supply Case Not Important 1TB WD Blue 7200RPM MSI Gaming Plus x370 / Gigabyte B350 Gaming 3 (I need help with that too) So motherboard, CPU, and GPU, can anyone help me choose please? (I'm on a budget around 700 - 720$) P.S I have a third config with a 1070 and an i5 3570k, tell me what you think about that one too I know this question looks terrible, but as I said in my other post, I'm hasty when writing stuff like this so please excuse that one THANKS in advance

Hi guys. Since the release of Ryzen i have been contemplating whether i should move to the Ryzen family and ditch Intel for now. My current configs are as follows: Processor: Intel i5-6600 (non-K) Motherboard: Asus B150 Pro gaming Ram: GSkill Ripjaws V 8GB single stick@2400 Graphics card: Asus ROG Strix 1070 OC PSU: Antec True Power Classic 650 watts. Its notable that i use my PC mostly for gaming with occasional Video editing. My questions are: 1. Will getting a AMD RYZEN 5 1600X give me any significant boost in term of FPS in games ? 2. Will getting the AMD RYZEN 7 1700 (if i can manage the money) give me significant boost? 3. Will i need to change the PSU since the ryzen has a greater power draw as far as i know? 4. Which motherboard should i go for? Thanks for your time.

As is probably common knowledge by now, the US Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency (DARPA) tends to spend quite a bit of money on advanced technology, some of which makes it into the world, some of which proves to be unworkable for the moment. In their most recent $80 million US project, they are looking to create a different kind of computer processor that would be the 'World's First' graph analytic processor. So of course, the question is, what does this mean? According to an Engadget article: https://www.engadget.com/2017/06/11/american-military-backs-an-entirely-new-kind-of-processor/ Basically, these processors would be able to access data stored on the system memory in a more non-linear fashion than how current processors have to take in data and should allow for these processors to be able to detect cyber-attacks and disease outbreaks at a faster pace than existing processor technology. I would also think that these processors/computing models would provide a greater advancement towards better Artificial Intelligence as the computers operating with these processors would be able to do something that our brains currently do, which is connecting dots in incomplete data sets or seeing patterns emerge out of data as it is being processed. Currently DARPA has Intel, Qualcomm, Pacific Northwest National Laboratory, Georgia Tech and Northrop Grumman on board to work on the development of these chips so it would appear that there is some horsepower behind the initiative, although I don't expect there to be a public computer running this for at least a decade, if it ever is fully developed.
