I want to create 2 independent private home networks and share a single fiber internet connection. My ONT (box fiber comes from) has multiple LAN ports, would it be as simple as buying a 2nd router and plugging it directly into the ONT.

so i could go into the details of my project, but all you need to know is that i'm running a arch Linux system connected to the internet via a powerline and a switch. i need to be able to ssh into it from an external network. this does not currently work. i have an ip that research tells me is in the private ipv4 range. so i figured i needed a public ip. i found that the ipv4 public range i full and expansive. i think one of the 2 quintillion public ipv6 ip's would be fit. thats where i got stuck. do i just set a unused ip as my own static ip? do i contatc my isp (telenet)? can i requeqt it myself? does this cost money? do i need to do it in router settings? thx in advance

So i just setup two vm's on virtualbox. I want each VM to be able to speak to each other. VM1 -> VM2 And VM2 -> VM1. Also i want both VMs to have internet access without being able to ping the host machine. How would i do that. I've setup and internal network and each VM can talk to each other and then i add a NAT to give each VM internet access but each VM can still contact the host IP how would i set it up to stop this?

This Friday Linus will be taking part in a recorded conversation with executives from Private Internet Access and Kape Technologies about their recent merger, which was announced late last year. We saw that our community had a number of questions about what that means for the future of PIA, and we want to get answers for you, directly from the source. If you have any questions or comments about the future of PIA and our relationship with them, please list them below, and we'll do our best to get some answers during that conversation. Feedback & direction from our community will be the primary factor that we consider when determining the potential future of our partnership with PIA/Kape, or any other VPN provider. Thanks for your contributions here!

Hey guys,I have quite the problem on my hand here:-I want to host a private CS:GO Server -My ISP does not provide me with a private IPv4So I only have the option to set up a server through a VPN Service like Hamachi or, in my case, Radmin. This is however tricky since the Server sets the public IP to 95.222.25.104 at the moment, which is not reachable, since this IP seems to be used by multiple devices AND routers. I tried forwarding on my router, it is not possible. If it were possible to set the servers IP to the one of my Radmins network, it should work, as this is already working with my TS3 and Minecraft server! The other option is to set the local IP of the server to the one provided by Radmin. But this also does not work, since the server is not able to connect to Steam servers like that and will only allow LAN connections over my real LAN.If there is a way to remove the LAN only funktion of the "offline" server, this would fix my problem as well! Can anyone help me here?I fear that there won't be a way for me to fix this.

I'm new to this site and I've been having trouble finding the solution to my problem anywhere else. I live in an apartment that provides its resident free WiFi. In order to access the WiFi, you need a device's MAC address. This isn't a huge issue except with all my smart home devices. My other issue is that even with both my chromecast and Stadia controller connected to the WiFi, they aren't linked to each other. I figured that my own private network piggybacking off of the apartment's network would be the fix, and I do have ethernet access to connect a router, but I do not know what I'm supposed to do to create it. Any help would be much appreciated.

There is a lot of companies that supply VPN's. I wonder if it will be possible to buy bandwidth from data carriers in DC's and provided services like that. With no monitoring and logging. Symmetrical bandwidth and load balance all the clients through a /24 subnet with an AS number. Would that be possible to host the service and how may people will be interested? The internet is monitored a lot and more and more people wants vpn's, but due to the fact that its expensive and have speed issues its not always the best option in the given area, SO..... i want to start my own VPN service but need support on setup, hosting and design. Any ideas?

One thing I want to make clear right from the start. I do not let school get in the way of my education. I am a self-taught HTML, Python, Java, and C/C++ coder. I also taught myself how to solder (fixing up broken TI 83 when it was profitable now I can't make a living off it because too many people are doing it now) and fix smartphones, tablets, and laptops (thank you, Louis Rossmann). I am currently studying Linux (don't know why it took me so long to get into it), PERL, and C#. I am constantly looked over in job applications (input from a specialist) because of my lack of education, or rather school education, and experience. This includes low-level "intro" jobs, whatever that means. So I am now attending BYU-Idaho online ($830 for 15 credits and no expensive books sounds great to me!) I will be moving to Idaho next year to finish my degree (Computer Engineering), mainly because of the price it is to go there physically and to live there. I live in AZ and for a 2-bedroom apartment costs around $1100 and you have to pay utilities (electric is killer here) whereas in Idaho it is $700 with utilities and high-speed internet. I work in a call-center for Safelite and I was talking with an older gentleman who owns his company and would rather hire someone from a first-rate school (he said I should go to MIT and with what I already know that could help me get in) then go to a second-rate private school like BYU-Idaho. Despite the major differences in costs (BYU-I a sum $4k and MIT $47K). Of course, if I could get into MIT with a scholarship that would pay most if not all tuition I'd take it but the likelihood of that happening is like winning the lottery to me. To anyone who is a hiring manager or high in the tech industry would the school that I attend really matter? Even if I have a high GPA (currently 3.7) and all credentials/certifications? Any thoughts on this would be great to have and I may look into a course redirection if necessary. P.S. I didn't care about anything in high school so I had a low GPA and no SAT scores. If anyone out there reads this, don't make the same mistake I did and actually care about what you learn.

So I'm at a loss for what I'm doing wrong here. If I set plex to automatically configure a port it successfully establishes a connection for about an hour and then magically looses it so I decided to manually set up a port..... with no luck I might add. Do I need to set up a Dynamic DNS? I'll include some screenshots. Server has a static IP also

Ok so I have a weird issue going on. I pay for the privateinternetaccess VPN (https://www.privateinternetaccess.com/) and it is installed and running. Whenever I search for my IP to check if it's working, (Example: Google: "what is my ip") the program is successful at masking my ip. But when I do a google search for "where am i" it locates me exactly where I am. So IP searches work and say I'm in New York for example but Googling where am I results in a map of where I actually am in NC. What am I missing here, and is this an indication that the VPN has not completely secured my connection? Hi All I thought I might post some info I found on, give the link a read. EA in now going to supply all the game servers, which would seem to result in a lot of restrictions for customisation https://server.nitrado.net/usa/news2/vi ... ly/?f=home "Following the Battlefield™ 1 launch, we will start rolling out a Rent-a-Server Program that will allow players to set up their own private and public Battlefield 1 servers, with control of different gameplay options to map rotations. Thanks to these customization options, you’ll be able to create games that suit the play style for you and your friends. Starting close after launch, you will be able to rent a server through the in-game store of Battlefield 1. In the past, servers were handled by third-party companies – now, EA is providing them directly. We think this will benefit you in several ways. First off, we will be able to secure the quality of the actual hardware. Since the servers come from the same provider, it will give everyone the same uniform experience. Furthermore, if you have questions or need help, you will be able to reach out to EA Support directly instead of third party support. On a rented server, players will be able to customize gameplay aspects like server name, map rotation, game mode, various game play settings, and more. We might restrict number of game modes available at launch and gradually enable them based on feedback and other circumstances, but you can expect that we’ll keep adding customization options and UI design throughout 2016. Expect to hear more about it as we approach the release of the Rent-a-Server program. We can’t wait to see you on the battlefield!"

Hey guys Who has experience with VPS'ses that run a distro of Linux (preferred Ubuntu, CentOS or Debian) that has a webpanel where I can host websites. I need to have a PHP server with MYSQL and SFTP. It also should have a mailserver included. I currently use VestaCP wich I find "OK". I've tried Webmin, but I don't really like it and I found an SFTP bug where the user would not be chrooted to their home directories. I kinda want it to be an open source / free web panel. Anybody has any suggestions?

GUYS, KEEP THIS CLEAN! NO BASHING ON OTHER OPINIONS, OR MEMBERS! ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ My area is NDP 99% of the time, so voting for anything else is usually useless. This election Im leaning more towards the liberal than the NDP.

I need to know what is the best Free VPN software out on the interwebs. My mom likes to block YouTube and Skype some times using the internet routers admin page. I would just reset the router and change the password but then she might just change the network password and disable my phone so using a VPN sounds like the best option to me, unless you know a better way. Thanks

https://www.hackread.com/canada-looking-into-windows-10-spying/ Canada to the Rescue! I'm glad someone is finally taking up this issue, the problem with Microsoft's "Users can turn our crap off" is that turning the crap off doesn't change anything at all, it only says it's off. I think anything regarding a user's information should be private by default, well that's kinda impossible, in 40 or so years we'll have PCs built into our body along with that comes spyware and ads and ad-blocks and malware, maybe even paralyze or killswitches.

Hey everyone How do you change the network from private to public on a mac? I hope I can get some help fast, my high school class depends on it

Well...this is awkward if you use your Private browsing modes for more private means. Looks like those URLs are still getting stored in a file on your computer, so unless you're packing a strong password + encryption on the drive, someone can take a peek at what you've been up to anyways. This is disappointing. Chrome wastes battery life and Safari is violating my happy time privacy, what browser is a man to use for such purposes? Hey guys i am looking to host a private VPN on my home machine, so that my girlfriend can get around her colleges monitoring and blocking of many sites and services(Skype being one of them). I have tried just buying her a VPN (P.I.A.) but for some reason it wont connect. Later i came across this Reddit thread witch mentioned it might have to do something with "Layer 7 filtering" and that "You are going to need to use cloaked ports". So i taught why not just host a VPN on my machine then? After a couple of hours of googling i got stuck. If some one has experience with this, or knows of a good guide i would much appreciate it. Both of us run windows, but i could run linux if it helps/makes it easier. Oh and she has this app on her iPad, called Onavo Protect (a VPN app, btw i was surprised that crapple had VPN apps that worked) and it worked until recently if that is of any help. Thanks in advance

What VPN do you use? Just did a search on google and it was pretty ambiguous. I need someone here who has or is using one and an actual preference. (Just realized this is in the wrong section. Can someone move it to networking for me, please?)

Hello! As you can see, this is my first post. I hope this is in the right section! My aim for this is to revamp my old gaming rig into a machine that can host servers for games AND store a lot of data. This is going to be for my personal use, not the rest of my family, so no worries there! The specs; Intel Core i3 2120 3.3Ghz Dual Core Processor 4GB Single Channel DDR3 1333Mhz Memory ASRock H61M-HVS Motherboard ASUS NVIDIA GeForce GTX 560 Ti 1GB DirectCU 500GB Hitachi HDS721050DL3630 Internal Hard Drive LG DVD/CD RW My budget is £450. I live in Southern UK, if that affects prices in any way. I'd like to change the case, as this one is very gaudy, loud and ugly. My preference in cases is quite understated, plain looking cases with decent features. Things like the Corsair's, Fractal Designs. I also quite like the NZXT Phantom Series, but who doesn't? I'd like to add more Hard Drives, and possibly an SSD. I'd also like to add more RAM, so hosting can have a bit more to latch on. If push comes to shove, I can sell this one on and build a brand new PC, but I'd rather just upgrade this. Please contact me if I need to add any more information, or move this thread.
