  1. Hi all! I have been having lots of bluescreen issues lately, and from what I can tell it appears to be CPU related. The errors frequently change, but the most common I get is driver_irql_not_less_or_equal. I figured this was due to an unstable overclock, but after hours of tinkering I eventually set my bios to defaults and tried running prime95 only for worker #6 to consistently fail. I have already reinstalled windows (blue screened several times during the process), disconnected all secondary ssd's, reseated both my ram and gpu, as well as cleared cmos and updated bios. On the bios update page I noticed there is a note to update the intel rapid storage technology driver, but it looks like I don't have that on my install of windows. My specs are as follows, and I have attached everything seemingly relevant from prime95. I think I may have a dead core, but I wanted to see what you all think before I go and buy all new hardware. Thanks in advance! NOTE: The cpu has been stable at 4.8Ghz @1.34v for the past 2 years, I started having issues roughly a month ago and it has only gotten worse up until today Aorus z370 gaming wifi (rev 1) Intel 8600k (cooled by cooler master 120mm AIO) 2 x 8gb 3600mhz Corsair vengeance ram msi duke 1070ti EVGA 650 GQ psu local.txt stress.txt prime.txt results.txt
  2. I built my first custom loop water cooled PC not so long ago. Everything looks fine, under full stress test (P95+Furmark) the water temps stayes at 36-38 °C with a very conservative fan curve, while GPU at 45-46, (RTX 2080 OCed to 2085-2100mhz). So my question is, is it normal to have CPU (3600X maxed out PBO settings, no voltage offset) to go up to 75, sometimes peaking at 80°C? Is my waterblock sucks? Or I did somethimg wrong? Anyway, the block is a Thermaltake block that comes with the pacific DDC soft tubing kit. I've got a Thermaltake slim 360 and a Raijintek calore elite slim 360 rad. (That rad will be swapped out to a nexxos 45 360, when I will have the money.)
  3. Lately I've gotten crashes and black screens, so I tried to get to bottom of it by running Prime95. And it works fine (Blend mode) for about half an hour. After that fails always either thread 3 or 4 or both. So my CPU might be defective? I've tried several RAM sticks and lowered OC to default speeds but yet 3. or 4. thread fail. I'm guessing theres nothing else to do than buy a second CPU to test? My CPU specs are in my profile, but motherboard is GA-Z270X-Gaming K5 and CPU 6700K. CPU delidded and at 4,6GHz (1,3v) Also, Small FFTs runs fine. Maybe memory controller faulty or overheating? Though temperatures of CPU under load are below 80C. Haven't run Memtest86 much longer than 30 minutes, as usually memtest reacts faster to RAM errors than Prime95. And memtest86 does not find any errors. --- But maybe VRM MOS gets too hot?
  4. I'm new at this. My teacher at school was talking about prime numbers. He was talking about the Great Mersenne Prime Search. He told us if you had a good computer, try finding primes using it. I have a decent PC with a Ryzen 5 2600 at 4.0ghz. Here's my current progress so far, how do you know if you've found a prime number. Also what does the ETA thing stand for. I've been running prime95 for almost the past day now. 20200125_134716.mp4
  5. Earlier this day, I undervolted my CPU. I was pretty sure that it's stable since Prime95 didn't show any errors and everything passed, CPU is maxed at 75°c. Now, the thing is, when I stopped prime95, the moment I clicked stopped at Prime95, I heard the fan stopped spinning then I just felt something so hot in my laptop for a few seconds, let's say around five seconds. Then the BSOD showed. I just restarted the Laptop, then it showed me a message to go to BIOS, I just skipped BIOS and just clicked discard w/o saving anything. Then my Laptop started without errors. So, is there something that I did wrong? Or maybe it was just because of the heat when the fan stopped spinning? In case you want to know, I'm running on AC at that time, it was 28°c here when I started running Prime95.
  6. I recently took apart my computer to do a thorough cleaning and improvement on my cable management. After I put my computer back together I got in any game and soon after starting it would crash, this escalated to getting the BSoD quite frequently even when I was only trying to log into windows. The error codes on the BSoD were always changing each time and this became a cycle of restarting until I turned off the computer. I tried taking my hardware out to localize the problem but nothing worked, not even reseating my cpu, gpu, ram, or taking out all my power connections and cleaning and putting them back in. I even did a factory reset on windows. killing all of my previous files. I found that once I turned off my OC that it fixed the problem, but once I turned it back on the BSoD persisted, I've used OC on this rig for a while but this is a new issue. I have just recently started using prime 95 as was recommended to me in an earlier thread. When I am not overclocking my cpu I can run it for a complete 12 hours and not have an issue. however once I start OCing things change. The smallest FFTs has no issues but once I use small and large FFts I get the hardware failure detected. The blending test does cause the failure as well. What does this mean? Do I need to test my ram and put different ram in my current system? Thank you for your help! Parts list: CPU: i5 6600k GPU: GTX 1070 MOBO: Asus Z170-A CPU Cooler: Kracken X61
  7. I'm coming here because I cannot find the answer literally anywhere online. I've been trying to overclock my 8700k to 4.8GHz. As I'm running Prime95, the processor starts out at the 4.8GHz clock, but for some reason clocks go down as low as 3.8GHz and often hold ~4.1-4.2GHz. I'm on manual voltage control set at 1.31V currently and am unsure where to go.
  8. Hey guyz. Sorry for my bad english.. i have a x58 asus p6t mobo with x5670 on it.. my cooler is cooler master masterair ma410p with two fans. now i overclocked that processor from 3.3ghz to 4.3 ghz at 1.38v. i cannot make it lower then that because the cpu become stable.. now i was stress testing my processor with aida 64 before where my cpu didn't throttles.. but now i tried to stress test it with prime 95 and my processor starts to throttle after 30 seconds or so.. now my question is that should i drop some overclocking or i should believe on the results of aida64? which test is more closer to gaming.. because my main purpose is gaming..
  9. Hi all, So i want a few questions answered, y is it that i can get a stable overclock with a lower voltage using aida64, then when i use prime95. Aida 64 i can get 5ghz at 1.3v but i think i could get but still testing... all my cores are 100% and staying there and no crashes... and avx is at 0 and temps are about 80-84 max on 1 core When i use prime 95 i have to put on a avx offset at 2 and my voltage is about 1.34... to get a 0 avx i have to go higher and my temps are round the 95- 100 mark What i want to know is whats the best way to make sure my system is stable for gaming i dont do anything on it other then game and watch films Are these temps to high? And i want to know if there is a way to get my temps down and still have the avx at 0 And i want to know is it better to have the oc stable from prime or aida?
  10. Hello, I have 2 very old servers: - Sun Microsystems Sun Fire X4100 with 2x AMD Opteron 254 - HP ProLiant DL360 G4 with 2x Intel Xeon 3.60 GHz (Nocona) Both of these systems had very bad problems, from turning off and power cycling randomly, to not turning on at all and just a bunch of weird issues. I spent an entire day stripping them down completely, cleaning everything, and heat-cycling them with a hairdryer (I was really out of ideas), anyway, one of these methods worked and both servers came back to life. I then updated both servers' BIOS and Firmwares. I then created a fresh RAID array and installed Windows Server 2008 R2 with SP1 on them (just for testing purposes). I needed a way to stress test them to make sure that they are actually fixed, and that they are not going to just fail on me again. I loaded AIDA64, IntelBurnTest and Prime95 on them (only running 1 at a time though), and proceeded to run the tests. I noticed that they didn't get that hot and even though all CPUs were pinned at 100%, the systems still felt responsive as if there was no load on them at all. Basically, I would like to know if there is a way to stress them extremely hard and really torture the hardware to tell if it is going to be stable. I will run the tests for a week or two to make sure. So far, they have passed a night of AIDA64, but as I said, they don't really seem to be breaking a sweat. I want to push the hardware to it's absolute limits. CPU, Memory, Cache, FPU, Disks, Network etc... really rev them out and take them to their breaking point. Any suggestions will be appreciated! PS. I know these things are extremely old and almost useless by today's standards, and use a lot of power, but I like them and they are still very useful to me.
  11. I imagine there are quite a few people that use Prime95 for their CPU stress testing when dialing in their overclocks. I'm also a user, but I can't say I am an expert beyond recognizing when isntability arises. So what I am asking, of you good folks, is to help me learn if there is a log file that can illuminate more than the simple instability it identifies. A log file that can help me diagnose the problem. Furthermore, a particular curiosity of mine is, why is it always the same core that stops working. My experience with Prime95 testing is that it always exhibits the same behavior when instability is uncovered and that is "workers" 5 and 6 (or core #2) stop running. If anyone can help me figure out why that particular core stops then I'd love ya forever.
  12. AMD Ryzen Master overclocked CPU freq @4GHz w/ 1.325 volts. However, temperature rapidly starts increasing with prime95 after 2 minutes it hits 80C... since it continues raising up I stop the prime95 test. IDLE temperature is 40C. Open bench. YES I AM LOOKING AT TDIE TEMPERATURES. SO FAR THESE TEMPERATURES MATCH WITH AMD RYZEN MASTER SOFTWARE. Why it is running so hot? MSI x399 Carbon Pro Corsair Vengance 3200Mhz RGB (16GBx4) AMD Threadripper 3.4GHz-->4.0GHz PSU HX1000i Corsair H100i V2 Liquid Cooling
  13. Overclocking the i7 7700k and in Prime95, every time the first test passes around the 5 minute mark, my temperatures spike from around 75 C to upwards of 100 C which causes Prime95 to fail shortly after. I am using a Corsair H115i as front intake, one fan at the back as intake, and two fans at the top as exhaust. All fans are running at maximum speed. Here is a test at 4.8Ghz, 3000 Mhz ram, 1.3 Volts. You can see the spike in temperatures slightly after halfway. The test fails right before cpu usage falls before 100 because I stopped prime95. I thought maybe it fails because temps and so I started lowering voltage. At 1.26 Volts, I fail prime95 immediately. At 1.27 Volts, a similar thing happened. This time it took less time to fail after the temperature spike, and the spike happened right after passing the first test. I'm not sure what would cause the sudden increase in temperature if the cpu had been running at full load up to that point. It was only 5 minutes, so maybe it hadn't reached equilibrium, but the sudden spike still seems odd to me. Has anyone experienced this before and have any advice? Would greatly appreciate it.
  14. I just noticed that the blend test in prime95 only maxed out at 25% ram usage even after 16 hours. I'm using version 26.6 since I have a 9700k. Is this normal? I thought I remembered blend using almost 100% of the ram during the blend test. My ram overclock passes all other benchmarks and memtest86 so it's not a bad stick or anything.
  15. Just installed a hyper 212 evo and downloaded prime95 I noticed that it stays stable at 66c for about 3-4 minutes then jumps to 76-80 seemingly out of nowhere. The cpu stays pinned at 100% load at both temps. Does prime95 do harsher tests every couple of minutes? Im using the Blend test.
  16. So I have the i5 4690k and the H80i from corsair, and I have already fixed the problem with the backplate, but when starting the prime95 test, the temps jump from 25~30 degrees to around 79~86 degrees instantly. This worries me.
  17. I refreshed my PC with new copy of windows 8.1 x64, and I did prime95 test on fresh OS install, like supposed to. I did not fail any test, but it did it like 'TEST 1' and then didn't write pass or fail, just skip on and write 'TEST 2'. It did the same test twice. What does that mean? Should I be worried?
  18. Can anyone plse put the Prime95 download link in this I can't find the real one only the fakes please help!!!
  19. So I recently built my PC. I have a i7 - 4790K CPU with a Noctua NH -D15 Tower Cooler on a Maximus VII formula motherboard. I am a complete newbie to over clocking and this is an initial attempt to overclock CPU. Im looking for two things: 1) Push my cpu to the absolute limit with my current setup. I understand liquid cooling allows for additional overclocking headroom but this being my first build was not too sure about a liquid loop. 2) Good overclocked setting for 24/7 running. I have only changed the CPU voltage and the multiplier in the UEFI bios. After booting into windows, I run Prime 95 for 3 minutes to ensure stability before pushing the multiplier or voltage higher. I monitor the CPU temperatures in Celsius using Real Temp GT 3.7.0. Given below are my CPU clocks and temperatures: Multiplier x42 @ 1.150 V Temps : 73 | 77 | 73 | 71 Multiplier x44 @ 1.150 V Temps: 75 | 79 | 75 | 72 Multiplier x45 @ 1.150 V Temps: 77 | 82 | 77 | 74 Multiplier x46 @ 1.150 V Temps: Failed Prime95 Multiplier x46 @ 1.175 V Temps: Failed Prime95 Multiplier x46 @ 1.20 V Temps: 84 | 89 | 84 | 80 Multiplier x47 @ 1.20 V Temps: Failed Prime95 Multiplier x47 @ 1.275 V Temps: 100 C on CPU #2 - Stopped Testing Final Result - Tested additionally with 15 Minutes of Prime95 - Stable Temperatures Multiplier x46 @ 1.20 V Temps: 86 | 91 | 86 | 82 What are my next steps? Thanks in advance. -NinjaOfSEA
  20. So i decided to test out the OC genie button on my x99 motherboard today. After only about 5 minutes of prime95 i got a blue screen. The issue doesn't happen when i run prime 95 without having OC genie activated. I realise that the issue might be heat, but shouldn't a water cooled CPU be able to handle that? The temperatures i saw never went above 70C. My CPU is an i7 5820K.
  21. I just discovered undervolting after looking around at ways to reduce the heat my CPU was getting to. I'm still on the stock cooler (saving up for an NH-U12p SE2 or similar) and running at stock clocks, but ever since summer really started I've been idling in the mid 40's and prime got to 64C on small FFT. I managed to get the voltage down a ton (AMD really gave the CPU's too high a Vcore, like 1.35+V is insane), and the lowest it would boot at is 1.1125V. That's as in barely boot and can't run Prime. I managed to get it to run Prime small FFT at 1.1250V and it was happy doing that. Left it running whilst on the forums and other stuff and it was happy. However, Large FFT caused it to instantly freeze and I had to hard reboot. This happened at 1.1375V and after about 5 minutes at 1.1500V (which is what I'm running currently). I haven't tried Blend yet, but I'm wondering if it's worth bumping up again (1.1625V and dealing with 46C rather than 1.1500V and 44-45C). I know undervolting shouldn't cause any permanent damage, and that Prime is a worst-case scenario since no real-world uses such as gaming or rendering are likely to stress the CPU in that way for a really long period of time, but I was just wondering what you guys think of these results. I was so close to 1.100V and now having to head a fair way back up (it'll have to go up when I get my new heatsink and give it a little OC, but I was really wanting those low temps whilst on stock - the PC turns my room into a furnace).
  22. Today I achieved something which I personally thought I'd never be able to manage. 5Ghz on an i5-2500K is something I've always wanted to try but have always been too scared to punch the vcore too, it's currently at 1.4V and I dare not try running Prime95 for longer than 5 minutes at a time but I'm just so proud aha! I know that's ridiculous, what have you guys managed on your little beauties? System Specs i5-2500K @5Ghz 8GB(2x4) Patriot Viper Memory (1866Mhz) Asrock Z77 E-ITX Mobo Corsair TX650W PSU Corsair Hydro H60V2 (With 1xBitfenix Spectre Pro) In a little bitfenix prodigy with all this at the moment, and a lot of fans, it is very loud! My question is though, is overclocking too easy today? I mean to be quite frank I don't know very much in regards to what most of it means, other than increase the multiplier increase the vCore and viola, I know there are limits of course and it's damaging but is it too easy for ams to do, and potentially endanger their rig & hardware???
  23. I just picked up a build today and I have been having some issues with it. When I run prime 95, I get an instant black screen. My system does not shut down or blue screen, it just turns black. I have to flip the switch on the PSU to get the system to boot again. EDIT: It is the ram. When i run the RAM at its advertised speed of 3000 MHz the system black screens. When i drop it down to 2133 the system works with no issue. Why is this? the motherboard suposedly can support it. Also, my CPU's turbo boost function does not work properly. The max I get is 4Ghz at about 1.168 V. I thought the 6700k was suppose to have a 4.2 GHz turbo boost. What are your suggestions? EDIT2: I ran memtest and it came back with 142 errors. CPU: I7-6700k Mobo: MSI Z170A M5 RAM: corsair Vengeance 16GB (2x8) DDR4 3000 GPU: Onboard as my GFX card was DOA.
  24. i want to start this by saying i am by NO means the smartest when it comes to computers and im learning as I go, so please any and all tips are greatly appreciated! I just built a new gaming rig: https://pcpartpicker.com/list/kFLJjc CPU: i7-8700k CPU Cooler: Hyper 212 evo MotherBoard: MSI - Z370 GAMING PLUS GPU: MSI GTX 1080 Case:Corsair - Carbide 400C while playing a few games i noticed my PC seemed to be running warm. I know enough to realize it should be monitored. Im not exactly sure how to properly monitor the temps (what programs to use) or how to fix them. I downloaded a program called "cam" and have been monitoring the temps there. iv seen my CPU hit 86 Degrees C playing PUBG.. My old PC never hit this temp before, so im a little nervous. any suggestions on what to do or what programs to use to stress test my PC to make sure its not just a fluke? Or what programs are better to use to monitor PC Temps? When I installed my CPU i made sure i put the correct amount of thermal paste and securely place my CPU cooler "hyper 212 evo". I also went and updated my BIOS to version "7B61v11" just incase that was the problem.
  25. Hi, I stress tested the CPU overnight with no problems the first time. I then overclocked my memory and tested it with memstest86+ with no errors. I ran my prime95 stress test again after the memory overclock and it shut down the computer at some point. I have another one running now where I increased the ram's voltage by a little bit to see if that fixes it, but in the mean time... do you guys have an idea of what to do next? I had this issue before the last time I overclocked and I can't remember for the life of me what fixed it. I think more voltage to the CPU even though it's the change in the memory settings that caused the failure. Anyways, I logged my hwinfo data and have a spreadsheet, so if you want to look it over and see if you can find a clue I didn't, be my guest: ASRock z390 taichi, i7 9700k, asus strix gtx 1080 oc gaming edition, 3200mhz Corsair vengeance pro RGB, 500gb samsung 970 evo, etc. 5.1ghz overclock on CPU, 1.28 vcore, cache 4.6ghz, level 2 LLC, ram: 3600mhz 1.38v 18 19 19 39.
