Hey everyone, I'm in need of some serious help combatting ignorance, arrogance, and stinginess at work when it comes to monitors. The Background & Story I got authorization to get new monitors for myself at work. This came after being stuck with some old recycled Dell 21.5" (1080x1920) (that were bought well over a decade ago), I've been suffering from extremely bad headaches, migraines, and sore muscles (bad posture to compensate to use the monitors); finally my supervisor had me do an ergonomic evaluation. They were not happy that I was using such small monitors nor the fact that they were not adjustable (I have them stacked on boxes for height), they recommended that I get larger and better monitors. (Along with a desk that is not 25 year old and desk chair to match.) So I set out looking for new monitors that were somewhere in the neighborhood of ~27-30" (3840x2160) monitors. I found several that were brighter, had better contrast, etc. for around the $360; which to me is not a bad price. I write a report and send it off to the uppers so they can order the displays. This is where things take a turn. For the worst. The response I got was pretty infuriating. They said that anything over 24" in size and/or greater than 1080x1920 in resolution is not considered ergonomic, thus are not acceptable. They then sent me the info and ordering sheet for a monitor that will be ordered instead. Needless to say at this point I am extremely annoyed about the whole thing. The monitor is a ViewSonic VG2448, 24", 1080x1920, which the contracted price for us is $340. Now I'm in the situation that I either get stuck with these monitors for the. Well next eternity. Or if I can find enough sources and studies about UHD monitors, PPI, and screen size, etc. I can actually force them to update their ergonomic standards. This would be amazing for all my coworkers as we are so tired of being handed fourth rate products because, it's what a disconnected 65YO ordering manager thinks what is acceptable. More than half of my office work is working in ArcMap or Arc Pro, along with a lot of reading, excel, and data work. I've spent several hours looking for research papers on ergonomics in regards to ppi, resolution, screen size, etc. and I have come up with mostly nothing. If anyone has some solid sources or anything I can use to bolster my argument I would serious appreciate it. I'm tired of coming home sore, with a migraine, and having to sleep my evening & night away to get relief. TLDR: Got told at work to order new monitors. Sent an order up for some 3840x2160 monitors. Got told anything over 24" screen size and/or more than 1080 is not ergonomic thus not allowed. Was told the only acceptable monitor an overpriced 24" 1080 ViewSonic panel. Only way to stop this madness is to force them to acknowledge that "Ergonomic" is not and does not stop at 24" 1080x1920. P.S. First time poster, long time lurker. I'm in need of some help, I can't take the apathy, ineptitude, and technological illiteracy of my upper management. Go easy on me, I'm dying over here.

Hello all, virgin pc builder here. I know display resolution is different from aspect ratio, but just bare with me... in this instance I am keeping ppi/dpi consistent. I drew up a little picture here to help you...get the picture. After some initial research I found that a true super ultrawide 4k monitor (like the 49" variety) would be around 7680x2160 pixels (i.e. 16,588,800 total pixels). Sooooo, since this is basically half the pixels of an 8k monitor (7680 × 4320), why do 8k monitors exist but these SUWUHD monitors do not? Or at least I cannot find any available atm. I would imagine a large but fine display like this would be super useful to just about everyone in terms of gami... I mean productivity right? And easier on the old eyeballs... Thanks for any and all insights!

Hey, how many ppi is good for gaming and not seeing pixels from a reasonable distance?

I'm courious, what do you prefer, on a bigger screen with 90PPI or a smaller screen with 110PPI. The smaller screen cost $100 less but that's subjective. Personally I would go for the smaller screen with higher PPI. Both screens have the same technology.

I know 32:9 is out of bounds for the >143PPI clarity I seek. So, are there 21:9 monitors with that or better PPI? I realise I am asking for 4K's PPI in a 21:9 aspect ratio. But, is there something? I know I will be stuck with 60Hz, but I am not looking for competitive gaming. I still have to decide on my GPU between 2080 and 2080TI.

Which of these will display more details and cleaner picture I) A 5.5 inch 1080p phone with over 500ppi 2)A 4k TV with ~ 100 ppi

I want to ask the effect of 4k display on battery of a laptop as compared to 1080p display. How much difference in battery backup does 4k screen cause. Does running a 4k screen at 1080p resolution will draw same power to 1080p display at same brightness level .(WHY)

Greetings! I would like to ask which of the following screen sizes is best suitable to a 1920×1080 resolution: 15.6" or 17.3" (disregarding the weight and battery consumption)? Also, what PPI and Pixel size would be the best?

I want to buy a display to gain in size compared to my laptop for watching media. I live in Mexico so the disponibility and budget are both limited. My current DEll G5 laptop has a PPI of 141, which is frankly very good, but the display I'm contemplating to buy (the BenQ Gw2780) has only 81 PPI. Besides viewing media and occasional gaming my everyday work is on Microsoft Word, writing. I remember that when I had a 19 inch 720p monitor of the same PPI, every line of the letters in the desktop and on Word looked like without any anti-aliasing in a game, for example. Is this going to be the same for this type of display (with that resolution and PPI).

Hello guys, I have to do a 80x167 (centimeters) image that will be printed and apllied on a shop window. The thing is, I inserted the centimeters in Photoshop and it automatically converted to pixels (4734 x 2268). What I would like you guys to help me with is: 1) Is this resolution enough so it won't look pixelated? 2) I tried to figure it out as DPI how much is it, and I think it's 72 DPI, is this ok for a picture that size to be printed in this resolution? iv been thinking for several months now or not whether to upgrade one of my monitors or not its been a difficult decision for me to make due to currently using 2, 1920x1080@60Hz 21.5inch panel sizes. For a long time I was thinking of making the switch to Ultra Wide so using a LG 29UM68 as an example but due to thinking about it for such a long time I am leaning more towards just getting a 2560x1440 24inch display to have the higher pixels per inch. But still having my two working monitors right now they are both around 5 years old each a piece I'm at a stalemate and wanted some advice on the matter. The reason I have been wondering whether or not to go for a 24inch is it worth me getting a display that's only slightly larger than what I am currently using. Budget is a little tight for me too currently I had my eyes on the ASUS VX24AH

Hi, I just wanted to ask if the difference between a 1080p 24inch monitor and a 1440p 27 inch monitor will be noticable considering the PPI, 1080p 24 inch = 92ppi 1440p 27 inch = 108ppi thank you

Just wanted to say, first official post here. Anywho. I am looking into buying an ASUS P2B29HQ 29" 21:9 Monitor. I can't find any decent reviews for it, so I just want to know if there's any input lag, any PPI issues. etc. I know it's no 1440p, but something like that will not be in my future anytime soon due to my budget. I am a gamer and a video editor so picture quality is needed. I don't want perfection (cause I can't afford it) but I also don't want rubbish quality either. I also dab in movie production and special effects so this type of screen is practical for me from a professional standpoint mostly. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks!

So, i'm a little confused. I see a lot of people getting 27" monitors in 1440p (I've seen even 24" 4K monitors) So, my question is if 1440p on anything less than 30" is enjoyable. For both gaming and productivity work, since the dpi/ppi would be around 108 for just a 27" 1440p monitor. I'm considering moving up to 1440p, but i'm coming from a 24" 1080p monitor

When Steve Jobs introduced the iPhone 4, he also introduced us to Apple’s definition of a Retina display. “There’s a magic number right around 300 pixels per inch, that when you hold something around 10 or 12 inches away from your eyes, is the limit of the human retina to differentiate the pixels… text looks like you’ve seen it in a fine printed book.” That Retina branding has become an industry misconception according to LG, and the company made a point of it during its G3 smartphone unveiling earlier today. LG’s comments aren’t just relevant when comparing current iPhone models, but also when thinking about what’s planned for iPhone 6. It didn’t mention Apple by name, but it was clear LG was referring to the iPhone and Apple’s 300ppi Retina definition: LG also compared an HD display at 269ppi to Full HD at 403ppi and its Quad HD display from the new G3 at 538ppi: “If it were true that the human eye could only discern differences in display quality up to a maximum off 300 ppi, then you wouldn't be able to notice these differences in clarity and sharpness between the images shown.” Yeah showing the above resolutions spread across in 60" or 70" is the way they support their argument. Idiots! The current iPhone lineup remains at the 326ppi that was introduced with the iPhone 4 despite later moving to a 4-inch iPhone 5 and introducing scaling modes that improved the overall quality on displays of later models. We recently reported that Apple is currently working on a 3x pixel tripling mode that would likely bring a 1704 x 960 resolution display to the next-generation iPhone. That would give the rumored 4.7-inch model a pixel density of 416 ppi and the 5.5-inch model 356ppi assuming they both use the 1704 x 960 resolution. ​I personally think that LG just wants to get some attention by bringing in some high specs on paper. Personally I don't see any pixelation on my iPhone when compared to HTC One (unless you go really close). Just slapping in a QHD screen on a 5.5" display IMO is a waste. I'd rather have a lower res panel with better battery life. And I also do think that the iPhone 6's resolution is smart. The resolution would be high enough to view content without any pixelation but not too high that it starts affecting the battery and the GPU load required. Also not to mention the compatibility of existing apps
