  1. Hi everyone! I've owned an MSI RTX 2070 ARMOR 8G for 2 years now and I've always noticed I was not getting the performance my friends had in games when their hardware was less powerful than mine. Yesterday I've decided to try and plug my GPU in the PC of a friend to test if it was broken, after some testing we found out the problem was not the GPU itself. The FPS was 5x higher than it was on my own PC. I returned home and tried to re-seat my GPU screw it so it was secure in and try again, this resulted in again only 80W power consumption and 52% Max power usage under 100% utilization of my GPU. My GPU is 100% being used but the power consumption is low. My friend tried to launch the same game with a 2070 Super and his GPU Power usage was at 100%. I've noticed my CPU usage is 30% in CSGO for example and GPU usage will be at 100%, my friends will get 200+ fps in maps where I can only get 60 fps. My friend also stated that his GPU was using 100% power usage while under a 100% utilization. After this I checked with GPUz and it stated that my total wattage from the 6 and 8 pin was at 60W. I know not every game can utilize the full power of the GPU but because of the testing I did I think this behaviour is very weird. Friends that own a 1070 have a significantly higher average fps in some games than me (around 50+ more). I've tried the following things: Reseating GPU in PCIe slot Reseating the PSU cables in the GPU Turned my PCIe support from auto to 3.0 in my BIOS Turned off any power saving settings of my CPU in the BIOS Updated graphics drivers Reinstalled graphics drivers with DDU Reinstalled Windows Testing my card in another rig (Card is fine) Changed Windows power plan to balanced Changed Windows power plan to High performance Changed the Preferred power setting to Maximum Performance in NVIDIA control panel My full specs of my system are: Motherboard: MSI B150M gaming pro CPU: Intel Core i7-6700k GPU: MSI RTX 2070 Armor 8G RAM: 2x 8GB CRUCIAL BALLISTIX 2400Mhz (stuck at 2133 because motherboard only allows 2133) Storage: Samsung 1TB Sata SSD PSU: 600w Cooler Master I've also checked if the GPU & CPU were overheating and this is not the case. I've ordered a new PSU to test if it could be a broken cable that is causing this low power draw. If this is not the case I suspect the motherboard is the issue because my CPU is running fine and I don't have any system instability problems while using my PC normally or while gaming. The attachments are my GPUz screenshot under 100% utilization of my GPU, my MSI afterburner graphs while playing CSGO & my friends graph while playing CSGO with a 2070 SUPER. I would love to hear your thoughts about my problem (and hopefully some solutions)! My Graph: Friends graph:
  2. Hey there, im having this issue for a while and now I finally wanna fix it. My Situation: Whenever I start screen sharing in Discord or MS Teams, my audio loses it completely. In Teams I NEED to have Teams as "active window" or I won't hear anything and in Discord it is as soon as I wanna start sharing the screen or rather the previews. I looked at the task manager and saw the power usage jumps up for teams/discord, which I assume is normal in both cases. Funnily enough I don't have this issue when I play demanding games or VR. ONLY when sharing my screen. When I leave the "Screen Share Selection Window" open for a few seconds it completely kills the audio. (Included screen recording) Quick Information beforehand: - Software: VoiceMeeter Potato (to split game audio, coms and music, issue persists even when its off) - GPU: RTX 3090 24GB (KFA2 Serious Gaming) - PSU: 1200W beQuiet! Dark Power Pro P12 - Audio Card: ASUS XONAR SC150 My headphones are plugged via the sound card. My Question/s: So is this a software issue like bad screen capture implementation? Or is there a hardware issue that needs addressing ? Im not quite sure what else I could write to give more information about it. So if you need something tell me please. Thanks to all of you reading this and sharing your thoughts. ^^ 2021-09-30_22-51-16.mp4
  3. I installed yet another launcher to play with some friends, and saw my notifications bar just overflowing with launchers. Rockstar, Riot, Steam, Origin, Epic. On top of Adobe, Unity, Nvidia, Asus and so on, all chewing away at system resources all the time. Cheeky bastards It got me wondering, how much power is all that stuff using? What about on all the other rigs? It's not just gamers; servers, consoles and browsers all spend cycles on DRM too. This must be a massive global energy investment! But how big? My NapkinMathFu has failed me, so I wonder if LTT folk know the answer?
  4. I'm currently looking at if my psu is going to be enough for my upcoming build. I've looked all over but considering the absolute unit I'm of a machine I'm trying to accomplish i can't find any solid info on what im going to need. Specs: Cpu: Intel i7-11700kf Motherboard: asus rog maximus viii glacial extreme Gpu: asus rog strix 3090 oc white edition Memory: 4 x gskill trident z royal elite 16gb 3600mhz cl16 Storage: 2x samsung 980 pro 1tb nvme, 2x wd 750 1tb nvme Psu: asus rog strix 850w 80+ gold Cooling: g1 distro plate, 7x lian li sl120 Just looking at tdp of the components tells me I should be fine with the 850 but if I consider overclocking will I run into issues if I don't put a 1000w in it? The psu is the only piece of hardware coming from my old pc which is why I have it in the parts list. None of the online Power supply calculators i tried seemed to be all that helpful Cheers Robert
  5. Hello, this is my problem with my Dell Precision m6600 mobile workstation, the max power usage of the i7-2860QM (monitored by Open Hardware Monitor) suddenly drops down to 8 W (and the clock speed to 1.1Ghz) and then gradually goes back to normal. This is normal when the temp reaches a critical level but a few minutes ago when it happened the max temp reached was 65 degrees Hope you can help me figure why does this happen, thank you in advance
  6. This happened a while ago and I have been ignoring it for the most part but its getting really annoying now. A few months ago I noticed I had lower frames than usual (about 100+ less) and frame drops/stuttering while playing SOME games and after looking through HWiNFO64 I noticed my GPU was only drawing 40-50% power, but was running at 100% utilisation. The temperatures of the GPU also stayed below 70C with fans on low. Asked someone a while ago who said it is most likely not hardware failure as the power draw loss only occurs on some games rather than system wide. PC specs i5 9600k Asus Z370-G motherboard 32gb 2666MHZ (2x16gb) 500gb SSD + 1tb HDD ASUS ROG GTX 1080 8GB 550W Gold PSU More details: CS:GO: GPU draws roughly 70W of power, CPU draws roughly 30W. Tarkov: GPU draws 160-180W of power, (don't have one of CPU - can get if needed). Rust: GPU draws roughly 90W power. Attempts to fix: - Messing around in power settings of both nvidia control panel and windows settings. - Messing around with settings in game - Completely wiping my SSD and unplugging my hard drive - problem still occurred. (can provide screenshots of hwinfo64 if needed) Any help on diagnosing the problem would be appreciated.
  7. Hello All! I have a RTX 2080Ti that I bought a few years ago. I have been getting quite poor performance out of it - 2080 like performance. I am getting well below the average of 14k with a score of 10.4k. I just noticed that its not using 100% power when running 3dmark time spy so I believe this may be the issue. I have uploaded the two pictures for you too take a look at. I am completely stumped. PC Specs Corsair HX1000 PSu ASUS STRIX OC RTX 2080TI Gigabyte Z490 master mobo Samsung 970 EVO SSD G.skill Trident Z rgb 3200mhz ram 10700k @5ghz all core I tried: Reinstalling drivers completely with DDU reflashing the bios of the card (it has two so it was lower risk) putting the card in my gf's pc, DDUing the drivers, and running it again... and the behavior persisted. Replacing power supply cables. Switching the 12V rails. I have not tried a new power supply. Thanks for taking the time to help me out, I really appreciate it. I can get the logs of a Timespy run if you feel like that would help. ***EDIT: For clarity, the two humps in the below HWINFO graphs are the timespy run and the sensors were reset at the start.
  8. Hi my dad thinks that my pc is producing a 140 pound electricity bill... i use the computer around 10hours a day (with brakes obviously) i have a 650w power supply. My dad wont take the fact that a pc doesnt use the full 650w...can a pc makes a bill this high or is it just other things in my house
  9. Background: My pc has a few issues, the vast majority of which are minor and can be overlooked (Devise duplication). However, as of late I've been occasionally having an issue ware several devices connected to the system randomly lockup and/or disconnect. My external HDD (WD MyPassport Ultra 2TB) is one of these devices as well as my mouse (Logitech g602), joystick(Logitech extreme 3d pro), keyboard (Corsair k55), Bluetooth adaptor(cheapest 4.0 on Amazon at the time), VR headset (Acer WMR). the obvious correlation is the USB usage however on at least 2 occasions my graphics card also lost power a split second before the rest of the system restarted, there was no crash report, and the event viewer just listed kernel power as the error, additionally this happened once when I was clearing duplicate devices from the devise manager and i watched the connected devces all get a little yellow triangle next to them, including non USB devises, which is why I am this here. System Specs: CPU: AMD FX-8370e GPU: XFX Radeon RX 580 8GB MoBo: Gigabyte 78LMT-USB3 R2 Ram: 24GB DDR3 running at 1333mhz (mixed sticks 2x8gb corsair vengeance pro 2x4gb adata xpc) PSU 500 watt EVGA (the $50 usd one on amazon) Storage: 1x 1TB WD Blue 7200rpm, 1x 4TB Seagate 5425rpm, 1x WD Blue 320GB. Other: 2 120mm fans, 2 140mm fans, 1 generic but high quality led strip, default CPU cooler. Question: Is this a power issue, if so then is my PSU going bad or just not enough, if so what is a good upgrade that won't make my wallet cry? is there any more information needed?
  10. So I wanted to dip my toes into custom water cooling and I have all my parts ready. I'm going with a 360 radiator with a pump and reservoir combo (this is all from ek). However, I want to know if my power supply is able to handle this. Im not a heavy over locker, but do prefer to have at least a little over lock on the cpu and a mild one on the graphics card. I am Going to water cool my gpu and cpu. My radiator planned out for the build is the ek cool stream pe 360 with a pump and reservoir of EK-XRES 140 Revo D5 PWM. My specs are: i7 8700k 32 gigs of trident z 3200mhz memory Asus Z370 gaming e motherboard Asus ROG Strix 1080 Ti oc 4 extra case fans Evga G3 750 watt power supply (modular) Fractal Design Define r6 And my current aio is the h115i THANK YOU!
  11. First of all, the reason I'm considering an RX is because I don't really want to give my money to Nvidia. Just wanted to know if the power usage difference between the two is enough to warrant buying a GTX 1050 over the RX560 (!!!the full sized 1024 stream processor variant!!!), I heard they perform very similarly to one another, just worried about that power consumption and my electric bill, I'm worried It's going to skyrocket if I go for the RX
  12. I have a Zotac AMP! Omega GTX 970 w/AMP! Extreme HSF and I can't get my OC over 1450Mhz and I see a lot of ppl getting 1600Mhz but the thing that I can't figure out it why the power Usage% never goes over 84% usage Most of the time stays at 75% shouldn't it be getting to 100% at least with a 1450Mhz OC maxed out at 100% GPU usage? My OC power Limit is set at 106% that's the max MSI afterburner will let me set it to. I may not really understand how the power % and usages work. Maybe staying at that power usage % is a good thing maybe it means i have a lot more to work with IDK. Any help would be appreciated. Specs. 13. I have a GTX 970, and i recently installed W10. When i was using W7, the power usage of my GPU according to MSI Afterburner was on 50% constantly on idle, temps were at 38-40ºC, didn't think much of it, weird idle temps but nothing dangerous. However, after i installed W10, power usage went down to 15% on idle and idle temps are at a constant 28ºC. I am assuming i had a setting i accidentally activated that made my GPU use power constantly, and somehow the W10 installation reversed it, but while i'm happy it's back to normal, anyone has any idea what could it be? The power limit is 112%, no changes in voltage and an overclock of 200 MHz on the core and 300MHz on the memory. Again, i am having no issues now, i just wanna know what could have caused the 50% constant power usage. Thanks!
  14. A question we get asked a lot from our customers and the data storage community in general: what's the power draw of a Storinator? 45 Drives R&D engineer Brett Kelly did a thorough investigation, measuring the current draws during start up, steady state and operating. In his latest blog post, he shares his findings: http://45drives.blogspot.ca/2015/05/the-power-behind-large-data-storage.html As always, we appreciate your thoughts and feedback!

  16. first off: i posted this in troubleshooting because i didnt really know where else to put it, please tell me if its in the wrong section. to the topic: i have two computers that run 24/7 which i'm really not sure of how much power they are *actually* pulling from the wall. i have enough knowledge of computers to know that an exact number cant be calculated but has to be measured, but i cant find any device to measure that anywhere near me. both computers mostly run somewhere between idle and 20% load, with following specs: home server: (4-ish year old custom rig) - i3 540 - 4GB generic RAM (2x2) - generic intel motherboard - 80+ bronze 650watt power supply - no dedicated graphics card - DVD burner - 3 hard drives "steambox": (2-ish year old acer TC-603) - i7 4770 (no K) - 10GB generic RAM (2x4 & 1x2) - generic acer motherboard - generic 350watt acer power supply, doesnt mention anything about reliability or wall power usage. - GT640 4GB DDR3 - DVD burner - 1 hard drive a rough estimate would make me more than happy. if you know an online calculator that can calculate power usage, feel free to suggest it.
  17. So I am planning on getting the BenQ W1080ST+ since it is short throw it is PERFECT for my room measurements. So whilst looking online for best price, etc. I came across an article saying that the BenQ W1080ST+ is the European Equivalent to the HT1085ST in the US and upon further investigation I found that the HT1085ST is £565.84 on the US Amazon while the W1080ST+ is £990.99 on the UK Amazon which is a £425.15 saving, with which I could invest in a sound system and get a better projection screen. Obviously my choice is to go with the US version, or the HT1085ST, since there is NO difference in the models, apart from one has a US plug socket, while the UK is obviously a UK socket. I mean could it be this simple? to just save £400 (Minus shipping) by buying from the US? OR (as I suspect) will I also need a compatible cable or plug socket converter to convert it to a UK socket while keeping the correct voltage? please keep in mind I have no clue about the conversions and differences between UK and US socket types or Volts, Watts and Amps. Thanks ever-so-much to whomever comments cheers
  18. Built this for two cousins who are upgrading from a C2D, http://pcpartpicker.com/p/GnPQhM. Is the wattage good enough for continuous use for a good long time or do I need something a little beefier? Also, clearance in the 200R is a bit of a problem when it comes to PCI-E connectors. Hope the 290 fits or I'll have to sell 'em the system with a 750 ti. So LTT gurus, come on down!
  19. I am intending to buy the R9 Fury Strix mostly because it is seems like a good sweet spot for what I want it for and it would be a very good choice but I am currently running a pretty weak psu in my rig which its well known that the CX600M is also poor quality my question is for anyone that can answer. Would this power supply do well enough from early january I say 4th-20th to about the 11-20th of april would this power supply break before then or do you think it could live with a Fury for about 3 months. http://www.newegg.com/global/uk/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814121975 ^ Graphics card My current specifications are a Nvidia GTX 760 AMD FX 8350 / H100i OC at 4.4 GHZ even on silent mode it peaks at about 50 degrees however I am British so its like 5 degrees in the northern UK at the moment ASUS Sabretooth 990FX motherboard 16gb DDR3 Corsair vengeance 1600 Mhz Ram Seagate barracuda 1TB HDD Samsung evo 250 gb 840 (850 was not released when I purchased it) The PSU I am running this currently on a CX 600M I will be replacing my graphics card at a around January the 4th-10th I understand that the fx 8350 consumes a lot of power and The over clock isn't really that big anyway so its barely noticeable.
