Hello dear forum users! Please help me! I have a problem with my PC randomly shutting off during gaming. It happens exactly like when there is a power outage, except the RGB lights on my RAM stay on. After shutting off, the pc seems to try to re-launch itself after like 2-3 seconds, but it fails and only the ram lights stay on. If I click with the mouse or push the power button (pushing once, not holding, If I hold the ram lights shut off too) nothing happens. Waiting for a few minutes will do nothing. After this happens the only way I can get the PC to start up again is if I unplug the whole thing from the wall, push the power button to release any power left inside, wait for like 20 seconds and turn it back on. Then it turns on sort of like normal, it turns on once, shuts off, then turns on fully after 4-6 seconds (it does like a cycle) and then it is fully functional once again. This shut-off (as far as I observed) only happens when I am gaming on demanding games, and after at least 2-3 hours of gaming, and randomly. Sometimes it won't happen for days, sometimes it happens twice a day etc. Context: Here are the specs: CPU: Intel(R) Core(TM) i7-8700K CPU @ 3.70GHz (running at 4,7 Ghz oc-d, never had problems with that) GPU: asus rog strix OC 2070 super Ram: G skill tridentZ rgb 3200mhz 4x8gb mobo: Asus ROG STRIX Z390-F GAMING PSU: Be quiet! 750W Straight Power 11 +! Might be important: I have recently installed another set of the G-skill ram (2x8gb more, it is exactly the same model timing and everything, though it is about 4 years newer in terms of production) Troubleshooting I've tried already: I thought that the addition of the new ram sticks may have just jumped over my 750W PSU's capabilities, so I lowered maximum CPU usage to 85% in windows power plan, and put nvidia control panel's power setting to optimal power savings instead of prefer max performance. (I have no idea if these do anything to really help me tho, I'm kind of a noob.) If you have any suggestions or know what is going on, please tell me. Thanks all.

Hi! Hope you all are doing good in these crazy times! So, my computer has been doing this thing for the last 2 weeks...it crashes without any blue screen or error message and it restarts by itself. It seems like it doesn't really matter what I'm doing, it crashes whenever it feels like doing so, although most times it crashes, I'm doing something a little bit heavier. Sometimes when it does crash, as soon as it starts powering up again, it goes down before even reaching the homescreen, and then again. If I don't power off the PC, the loop doesn't end. I've checked the temps of board, cpu and gpu - all normal, cpu 50's max, gpu 60's max. Ran Memtest86 and everything was good with the RAM. Cleaned the dust off of my cpu AIO, changed thermal compound on cpu chipset, cleaned my GPU heatsink, changed thermal compound on gpu chipset. Also measured the voltage on my PSU, which was also correct. After doing all this, After doing a clean windows installation and the crashes stopped being so frequent, but they still happen now and then (just like it did when writting this message -_-). I just don't know what else to do, what tests to run, or whatever, any tips you may have would be really helpfull! Thanks in advance!

About a week ago when i was play testing a new Gundam game on steam when my PC powered off during play testing. At first i thought this was due to my drivers being out of date, so i went ahead and updated all of them. I didnt have anymore problems for several days, and now all of a sudden during my last 2 online games of overwatch my PC has powered off 75% of the way through the match. Im still running on windows 10, and even though my computer is dated now (made in 2014 with most components manufactured in 2012), i havent had an issue such as this until the last week. The dust has also been cleaned out of my case as of last week. I already intend to replace this computer, but it needs to last another 5ish months until the new 4000 series GPU's release. Im hoping to replace my setup in october as my own birthday present. How can i go about fixing the problem with my PC powering off without any warning during gaming? Could this be a potential power supply problem? My battery backup also recently went bad (purchased in 2015), so could this be due to inconsistent power delivery during heavy use? Could this be caused by an outdated Bios? Hi folks, I have a MSI GF63 THIN 9SC-240IN and I guess my battery is going bad and I would like to confirm it. At the end of the day I shut down my laptop at around 40-60% juice and I make sure to unplug it before shutting it down. But next day when I power it on the POST screen comes up and the laptop immediately shutsoff/power down. I then have to plug in my charger/adapter and then turn it on. When I turn it on the battery level remains the same when I turned it off the previous night. I am guessing as the laptop is a little over 3-years old the lithium ion battery is going bad. Can anyone confirm me if this is the case?

Hi guys, today suddenly out of nowhere my pc decided to start hard shut downs. Now I'm selling this pc so I need to know which part is bad before I do. I7 6700k Be quiet 630w+bronze No Discreet GPU Asus z170 pro gaming mobo 2x8gb ddr4 Win 10 So whatever I do, be it browsing web or just sitting on desktop my pc will hard shut down randomly after 5 sometimes 10,30 minutes. Funnily enough plugging in ethernet cable seems to speed up the issue. I obviously suspect PSU, all pc is like 5-6 years old now. I have a multimeter, can I check the PSU with it if so how and what to look for?. Thanks

Hello there! So I've recently bought an ssd from newegg, the Team GX2 256gb variant to use it as the main drive for my brother's potato pc. So as I've finished installing Windows 10 and all of the necessary drivers. I've noticed that the cpu and case fans were still on while the monitor was no longer receiving any signals from the pc when I had shut it off. It was the first time that I've encountered a problem like this so I googled it. Forum after forum states that the problem lies on either the motherboard or the psu. While I was researching for solutions for this type of error, I tried swapping back the old hdd that he had. It didn't had any problem whatsoever when shutting down. Then I tried running both the hdd and ssd while the main drive was the hdd, still it didn't had any issues. But, when I tried to use the ssd as the main drive the problem occured again. The cpu and case fans were still spinning while the keyboard's light and monitor is already off. Thank you in advance for looking into my problem. Good morning/afternoon/evening to you all In the last week my pc has shown me a bunch of wonderful new way to crashes, see attached images. Those crashes see to be due to nvidia drivers, but that seems to be fixed after a format. Along with those crashes my pc has switched off with no warning. In the one case I was just reading something on my browser and on the other I was playing Supreme commander, spanning 2 screens. Current configuration: CPU: i5 2500 OC to 4.0GHz (been running like this for 2 years) RAM: 2 x 8 GB Corsair vengeance CL9 1600MHz + 2 x 4 GB Adata CL9 1600MHz (Not the best combination, but it has been working) GPU: MSI 1050ti 4GB (No 6pin connector) SSD: 128GB Samsung 840evo PSU: Corsair TX 750 Motherboard: GA-P67A-UD3 (http://www.gigabyte.com/products/product-page.aspx?pid=3698&dl=1#ov) Windows 10 Pro What I have tried: Format windows Got rid of the coloured crash screen Removed all oc and xmp. Ran valley benchmark 3 times and was stable Evaluated Event viewer and found no errors during the benchmark Restored CPU OC Ran LinX with a 16GB problem set along with Kombuster's frame buffer filling stress test PC ran at 100% cpu load @4GHz at 79C Ram was filled to 20/20 GB GPU used the full 4GB frame buffer Test period 20min System was stable 2017.02.04 Removed the 1050ti and installed my old 660 PC powered down when starting supreme commander FA Struggling to replicate the behavior 2017.02.05 May today be the end of this crap Stripped the pc in its entirety and took a few hours to clean and inspect every nook and cranny. All parts were photographed during the process. The motherboard Inspected the are under the slots to remove the dust that might have settled in ther Found a little dust bunny lodged under my PCI-E lane between the pins Inspected all slots for dust partials and damaged pins Inspected all capacitors for ovality, buldges, leakage and superficial damage Inspected all power connectors for damage or burn spots Clleaned and replaced the thermal paste as the paste was more of a putty than a goo. PSU: The warranty was up so decided to remove the lid and see if all was still well in there Cleaned the fan Cleaned 6years worth of dust Inspected the capacitors for signs of damage Resembled the psu and tested it before using it again Removed some redundant case lighting Redid cable management to remove any possible pinch points Testing Ran Aida 64 for 30min passed Included a picture of a shorter run after the temps had stabilized 2017.02.13 The Pc randomly powered down again. As a next step I was investigating my psu's different voltages (3.3V, 5V and 12V) for deviations exceeding 5%. For the evaluation I used a multi-meter rather than software. Measurements were taken at molex and sata connectors All the voltages are within tolerance and did not shift regardless of idle or load conditions. I think my initial gpu crash were due to windows driver issues. After allowing windows to do all its updates, the problem went away.

Hey all! So my friend recently said that his keyboard on this laptop wasn't working for a while now and he said he might've dropped it. So the lights on the keyboard have stopped along with the keyboard function itself he was managing with the touch keyboard... I said it might be a loose cable, so I found the loose keyboard cable and firmly reattached it to the motherboard. After having done that I secured all the components back to the laptop. Then I tried powering on the laptop with 70% charge and even with the charger plugged in.. Then the laptop power led would turn on for a split second and the keyboard lights flashed for the first time in a while (meaning the keyboard is working again) and the laptop just wouldn't turn on after. I have tried using the reset button to the side after that then powering it on the same would happen. I also tried removing the battery and powering off just from the charger but still no result. Please Help!!!!

Hiya, I have just replaced my air cooler with a new All in one Water Cooler. I took the motherboard out of the case and removed the old cooler. During that process I scratched the bottom of the motherboard a little bit (I hope that isn't the cause of my problem). A lot of cables had been taken out so i could do a bit of cable management. And then i placed everything back the way it was before everything went upside down, just with a new cpu cooler. With everything together I then start my Pc up and then for about 10 seconds all the fans are running and everything seems to be working apart from the monitors not responding. After those 10 seconds or so (rough estimate) the Pc shuts down. And so i thought great troubleshoot time. And the pc started up again all by itself, and then with another 10 seconds it turned off again. It justs goes through a cycle. What I have troubleshooted: Reset Cmos battery with both jumper and taking the battery out and putting it back in. Unpluged Graphics card, hard drives and Optical Drives Checked cables Reseated Ram

My M.2 drive is now disappearing from the bios & Windows after ANY power off. A couple months ago it started doing this if my kids shut off my pc suddenly. Then it progressed to driver / OS updates rebooting the machine. Now, sleep mode or just a simple PC shut down and the drive is gone on next power up! It's a Kingston SSDNow M.2 2280 120GB. This has happened across two Msi motherboards - the Z97M Gaming & the Z97 Gaming 5. My PSU is a SeaSonic X-850. When it happens, I can usually do a hard power off from the PSU's switch, wait 2-5sec, power on & it's back. This used to work & would last for days to weeks, until some kind of abnormal shutdown happened. But tonight I did a normal shut down & came back a couple hours later & it's gone. I've tried changing all the settings in the BIOS I can find that might relate - Hot swap, Intel Rapid & Quick Connect.. Both HWiNFO & Crystal Disk show the drive as being just fine, with no flags or errors. This is the 2nd SSD I've owned & the other (2.5" Corsair Force GT) is even older & I've never had any issues with it. The Kingston has 6,808 GB Total NAND Writes & 9,779 Power on hours. (Corsair has 8,218 GB Total Writes & 13,564 Power on Hours) Checked Kingston's site, and there's no firmware updates or anything for this model. So any suggestions aside from a new SSD?

Hi. My name is Tomás. I recently built myself a new pc which I have overall been quite happy with. However, I soon noticed a large problem. While gaming intensively the pc would cut out. It wouldn't even automatically reboot. I have ruled out GPU temperatures as they were only between 73-82 degrees on load. I believe that it's the power supply but before I go out and buy a new one I thought I'd get some other people's opinions. Here are my PC specs: CPU: Ryzen 3 1200 RAM: 16GB RAM: 16GB 2400mhzCorsair Vengeance DDR4 RAM GPU: Zotac NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1060 6 GB Mini Motherboard: MSI B350M GAMING PRO PSU: Corsair VS550w 80+ Silver Rating I understand that this PSU isn't the best but I thought that it would handle this PC fine. I'm thinking of replacing it with the Corsair RM550x. https://www.amazon.co.uk/Corsair-RM550x-Modular-Power-Supply/dp/B015PWMRI0?th=1 Anyone have any ideas?

Hello everyone, Sorry for the long story. TLDR: PC instantly turns off without a notice or whatsoever whilst the power isn't cut off. First of all I want to say, I this topic is in the wrong forum category I'm sorry, but I'm not sure where else to put it. What happened twice now is that my pc shutdown unexpectingly, not really shutting down actually, just going black and... nothing. The weird part is that the power brick that it's connected to stays on, and the light that's connected to the same power brick stays on aswell. So my only guess is the hardware. In the windows event viewer all it said was: "The system has rebooted without cleanly shutting down first. This error could be caused if the system stopped responding, crashed, or lost power unexpectedly." The previous time this happened I made sure the chord that connects to the power supply was tight in there and wasn't loose or anything. Now that it happened again, I'm clueless of what it is, I have been using this setup for 8 months or so without this every happening since a few days ago. It doesn't happen on startup or under heavy load aswell. Both times it happened after using my pc for several hours after closing my game. Previous time it was GTA 5, and this time League of Legends. Just 20 seconds after shutting down the game both times, but I'm not sure if this has to do with anything or was just a coincidence. One thing I could imagine is the motherboard failing, as I got it broken. Everytime I startup my pc it's a black screen, until I hit the reboot button under the power button a second later and then it boots up. This was becoming a habit and always worked aswell for all those months, but it could be that the motherboard is now really failing. All I really want the know is what could be the problem? And can I find in my event viewer or somewhere else a confirmation of my claims? Or any other software to test on system parts failing? Edit: Well whilst trying to get my pc specs through speccy for this article, my whole pc froze for about 3 minutes when I was detecting my CPU, even my mouse froze and Ctrl+Alt+delete didnt work. Speccy got terminated after 3 min and it started working again, so I just copied the specs from another post I had. But this might confirm my thoughts about the cpu/motherboard failing. Maybe worth mentioning: Whilst this happened I am only running: Chrome, Steam, Discord and Spotify both times. PC specs: Operating System Windows 10 Pro 64-bitCPU AMD FX-4100 62 °C Zambezi 32nm TechnologyRAM 16,0GB Dual-Channel DDR3 @ 933MHz (10-11-10-30)Motherboard ASUSTeK Computer INC. My build: intel 4790K MSI gaming 5 z97 motherboard gigabyte windforce 970 nvidia gpu RM600 psu (600w) h100i liquid coller ddr3 16GB ram running windows 10 My pc switches off at random, even when there's not much load. Here, by switches off, I do not mean like a total shutdown. The led on cpu cooler is on, led on the motherboard is on, and all the fans are on except for the one facing rear (for which the power cable is connected on the motherboard, I've connected other fans directly to psu). The keyboard, mouse and monitor are in off condition. Recently I am not able to even switch on my pc. when i try to switch on, the above-explained scenario occurs. But when I toggle the power switch behind the psu a couple of times, it starts by luck. I initially thought that there was a voltage problem and changed my ups but the problem persists. There seems to be no temperature issue. I also tried removing GPU all-together but still not fixed. (note: I did not overclock any component) Please guide me towards a fix regards (note: please reply with added detail. Noob here).

Hi! At the end of last year I built a new pc, over the last few months I systematically experienced a rather exotic problem: the pc won't turn on if the psu has been connected to the wall for long. To power it on I have to unplug the psu for an hour at least. To me it looks like a condenser in the psu that need to be discharged to power on the pc. On top of that, if the pc is on for more than 6 hours (which it tends to do) suddently it will power off, for no apparent reason. That got me thinking, is the psu bad or dying? Or is the problem somewhere else? computer specs: AMD Ryzen 2600, Nvidia gtx 1060, 16gb crucial ballistix sport, asrock b450m pro, wd black pcie ssd, PSU: Cooler Master MWE gold 650 full modular. Hi people. My PC has been shutting off after gaming for a while with no warning. Everytime this happens I have to turn the PSU off and then on again, otherwise the PC won't turn back on. I have had this problem with this PC ever since I built it just over a year ago. I tried everything I could. I replaced my VS650 with a TX650M and I replaced my old GTX 580 (because it died) with a 7970 Ghz edition. ANY advice or information you have is very much appreciated. as the title states, my new pc build is randomly restarting in some games. The game will hang for a second before getting a black screen then a restart back to the log in menu. This has happened in 2 games so far, Assassins Creed Odyssey (3 times each after 20 minutes) and warzone for call of duty (once after 10 minutes). I had no issues with call of duty till today, and as for AC I had issues until i disabled uplay overlay? Okay so my computer has been messing up for the past few days. I've checked just about everywhere and CANNOT find one thing to help me. And now I feel as if I'm digging myself into a bigger hole. I'm no computer scientist or anything, but I think I've tried just about everything and every method. But if there is anyone out there that could please help me that would be greatly appreciated. So the problem is that I would power my computer on and everything would seem fine, but it's not. Within 10-15 minutes the computer would randomly shut down. I thought maybe it's the power supply because I had recently gone from an off brand one too a Thermaltake 600w power supply or so. I thought the power supply was defective and returned it. I got a corsair power supply and that wasn't making a difference. I have a gtx 1060 3gb, a core I3 3440 I believe, and 8 gb of ddr3 ram. Later on I thought it was the motherboard battery from some other forum I saw, so I got a new one in it. Still didn't stop the shut downs. I even tried re-downloading windows 10 and that's not helping. So now I have a PC that I can't even get to the home screen with. Any other thing I can think of is that I got a new 1tb hard drive, a 128 gb ssd, and a new PC case. Anyways sorry for making this so long, hopefully someone can help me with this problem.

Hello, the original LTT forum post I made for this was in 'CPUs Motherboards and Memory' and is found here, however this post is more refined and I believe this section to be more appropriate after delving into the issue as much as I can. System Specs: Motherboard: Tyan s7012G4MNR (Link to manual; Pg10-12 for PCIe slot layout and labels) Chipset: Intel 5520 / ICH10R CPU: 2x Xeon X5660 GPU: R9 280 (Tested with GT 210 as well) Ram: 2x8GB, Single Channel PSU: EVGA 850W G2 Basically: Do you have any idea why using a graphics card would cause the system to completely power-off crash? It started happening when I moved the GPU from the x4 slot (PCIE3) to an x8 (PCIE4 or PCIE5) slot, and I was using PCIe WiFi and USB3 cards in those slots beforehand without any issue. And it doesn't matter whether it's a GT 210 or an R9 280, the crashing occurs. ****I should add that the problem has now occurred even with the graphics card in its original slot (PCIE3) I need the GPU to be in one of the x8 slots because of bottlenecking which was happening in the x4 slot (something to do with going through both the Intel 5520 and the ICH10R chip as far as I can tell, rather than just the Intel 5520.) Finally, it happens pretty sporadically and instantly, no blue screen and no crash dump. The system just clicks itself off without warning of any kind. Seems to occur more often when using Firefox or loading/playing GTAV. Things I've done: -Reset the BIOS settings -Tested CPU Thermals with Prime95 -Cleaned and reinstalled GPU drivers using DDU Things I've considered: -Flashing the BIOS (Extremely wary, never done it before) -Reinstalling Windows (Going to buy a cheap hard drive and try this tomorrow) -It could maybe be something to do with PCIe power delivery through the motherboard? Thanks in advance if there is anything you can advise. I'm really desperate at this point I'm completey out of my depth.

Hi, For quite some time now, on certain occasion when I hit the power off on Windows (10) it says it is powering off, however after turning off, several seconds later, my PC then starts again, I did replace my graphics cards recently, however it happened before that (It actually started happening after assembling the computer even before adding the sound card and other stuff added later on). I checked my BIOS it seems that all the relevant switches (concerning power supply reboot) are powered off, and I tested to see what device is able to reboot or power on my computer and canceled their permission for that in the device manager. Many thanks!

Hello everyone, please excuse me if I created this thread in the wrong place or anything, i'm new here. I ask of a moderator to move my thread if posibile into the correct thread area. Ever since I built my rig, I have these issues when turning it on or turning it off. 1. When I power on my PC, sometimes there is no signal from the video card onto the monitor, sometimes it turns on just fine, sometimes there's no video signal. After a manual restart from the button, the videocard signal comes on. Please be aware that I am running the monitor through a DVI-I port. I didn't find a fix for this, I tried a lot of things but none of them worked, so I think that the problem is somewhere else. 2. Sometimes, when I turn off my computer, it turns itself back on, sometimes after a few seconds after the shutdown, sometimes minutes or hours after. I didn't find a fix for this either, I just turn off the computer and then turn off the power supply from the button. Can anyone help me out with this? I believe that these two issues might be related to one another. Here are my specs: Gigabyte Z86-DS3H (I don't know if it's Rev 1.0 or 2.0 or whatever, it doesn't say anything on the box) Intel Core i5 4440 Haswell, 3.1 Ghz. 4x4GB HyperX Beast DDR3 2400Mhz CL11 Dual Channel Gainward GeForce GTX 970 Phantom 4GB DDR5 256-bit SSD Kingston SSDNow V300 60GB SATA-III, OCZ Trion 100 Series 120GB SATA-III and an HDD WD Blue 1TB SATA-III 7200 RPM 64MB Corsair CX Series CX650M, 80+ Bronze, 650W And a case Game Daemon 6003.

Asus z97 pro mother board Intel i7 4970K processor Gigabyte GeForce GTX 960 graphics card Samsung 250 GB SSD boot drive WD 1 TB HDD storage Corsair H100i GTX cooler EVGA 650w power supply ThermalTake core V71 case 16 GB gskill 2133 DDR3 memory About a week ago my computer started shutting off randomly after about a 1/2 hour of use. I started it up again but monitored the temps and all of my cores according to thermals on the CPU were fine (about 40 degrees C) and so were the packages, but on two of the 4 "temperature #x" (according to my mother board thermals) were bouncing between 80 and 100. So on my CPU the temp was fine but the motherboard the temp was high. The problem persisted even on idle or in the BIOS, so I bought a new AIO liquid cooler. I unplugged and re plugged everything back in internally and moved it to a better ventilated area. It ran for about an hour without a problem, then started happening again. I cleaned off the thermal paste and tried again but still had the same results. I then took out the graphics card, a stick of ram, cleared my CMOS, and still ran into the problem. It shuts down and then instantly starts back up but doesn't post or show anything. I'm running a stock 4 GHz. I've read that it can either be a defective power supply or a defective CPU, but I'm lost as to which it could be and I don't want to spend $400 to replace both.

So I build my own machines and I've built them for a while now, but this is the first time I'm encountering these set of issues, and I'm wondering if it could be a failing PSU. Now this doesn't happen all the time, but when it happens, it's rather characteristic. Here's a list of symptoms when they occur Mild static can be heard over the speakers Display turns on and off very frequently Computer frequently has a "USB Disconnected" sound with USB Device not recognized warning Holding my external DAC AMP makes the static noises more prominent, and sometimes triggers the USB Disconnected noises as well I disconnected my DAC AMP altogether and hooked up my headphones onto the onboard sound, and I realised that even when doing the Windows sound test, there was a LARGE amount of crackling when the pinging noises played, something that's obviously not normal Today in itself, it occured again, except this time my PC flickered off for a split second, turning everything off and resetting some bios settings (but not the presets I saved) To me this almost sounds like it could be a failing PSU, but on the other hand it could be a failing motherboard as well, except that I find it difficult to tell. For reference, I have an Antec TruePower 750W Blue power supply which is about 5 years old by now, and an Asrock Z77 Extreme 4 Motherboard with an i5 3570k overclocked to 4.5GHz. Anyone care to chime in on the subject, or maybe have a definite answer to this? :\
