  1. PC Diagnoses: Parts: PSU: RM750x (Corsair) Motherboard: MAG B550 TOMAHAWK (MSI) CPU: Ryzen 9 5900x (AMD) GPU: Nvidia GeForce RTX 3080 Gaming X Trio 10G (MSI) RAM: 32GB Dual-Channel DDR4 @1600MHz (16-18-18-38) Trident Z Neo (G.Skill) Full List: https://pcpartpicker.com/user/damondahl/saved/89X74D Summary of Complaints: What I am currently experiencing: the programs utilization usage for the GPU spike from 1%-2% all the way up to 30%-40% just in a matter of seconds. My PC Freezes, I can hardly even move my mouse. -This happens even in the BIOS. The Realtek Lan Port drops connection about every 5 minutes for a duration of 0.25 - 1 seconds. My Audio interface hardly even Works. (It is a Zoom H6 plugged in via USB). From what HWinfo is telling me, the Voltage changes are INSANE, the power draw is NOT consistent. I just want to make sure that I am headed into the right direction while testing these parts and updating firmware, drivers, and software correctly. Any insight is much appreciated. What’s in Good Condition: CPU (Cinebench: Consistent Single-Core and Multi-Core Performance under load) GPU (Tried Another Nvidia GPU and it had the same issue + 3DMark Score for the 3080 was Great) SSD - Boot Drive (No Errors: Verified from CHKDSK /R) RAM (No Errors: Verified from MemTest86 + Windows Memory Diagnostic Tool) Surge Protector + Power Outlet (No Errors) Thermals (Under 60 °C for the CPU, GPU and RAM while under load) Things I did: Updated motherboard BIOS to be to support the CPU Reinstalled Windows 10 Pro 3 times from a USB. (A FULL reset, removing ALL files). Enabled Gameboost for the CPU in the BIOS Enabled XMP for the RAM in the BIOS. Used DDU to refresh GPU. Updated VBIOS from MSI Dragon Center Updated CPU Drivers (from AMD) Updated GPU Drivers (Game Ready Driver from Nvidia Geforce Experience) Enabled Resizable BAR for GPU Things I DIDN’T do: Manually Overclock CPU or GPU Potential Problems: PSU Motherboard
  2. My computer was an Acer Nitro N50-610-UR14, and there is an odd connection on the motherboard for the HDD to connect, a weird 6 or 7 pin port on the motherboard that's supposed to be a motherboard to SATA. But I couldn't find it anywhere so I tried to wing it and connected a makeshift cable which was probably a bad idea, and my RGBs could turn on. then I moved the connection to the last 4 pins and the pc black screened. Now the power button won't turn anything on even with a new PSU connected. The motherboard works. GPU works, I don't know if the CPU works however but I don't think that should be able to fry my PSU. But the PSU gets power, but the relay clicks very rapidly almost at the speed of a buzzing sound, though it still clicks. But the relay clicks less when it's plugged into the wall and nothing else. Like I said, even a different 100% working PSU will not turn the pc on as the power button doesn't work even though an Amp Probe says the power button works. It's a complicated situation that I am probably explaining miserably, but is there anything anyone knows that might be useful information? Thanks.
  3. I'm working at a school district and there server went off last night and they had no idea. They called me in (Electrician) to find out what the issue was. A breaker had tripped causing the Servers to go down. They want me to find something to send notifications of any Power Failures, but what I've seen through Google searches aren't great. I was hoping to find something that can send out email or text or push notification, possibly over cellular (in case the internet also goes down). The only thing I've ever used that was close what im looking for is the Ring Alarm, but thats because it has a cellular backup. It sends me push notifications that power was lost or restored. I was also thinking of using something with a Raspberry Pi, but I'm sure someone in IT would freak out if they saw it and didn't know who set it up.
  4. UPADATE: Was the PSU, replaced with Corsair RMx and working great now! Hi All, Just got a new PC, all parts brand new, but when i play games my PC has a power failure and powers off, then restarts. All temperatures are normal (CPU around 50c, and GPU around 70c max load). Stress testing the psu and cpu using tools did not seem to cause the issue. I have an old graphics card i tested with for 10 minutes and it did not seem to cause the issue, but it is very old and does not draw much power, nor can it even load games like metro exodus which have been causing the issue almost immediately. I am unsure where the issue is, I believe this to be a fault with the PSU as it is usually the most likely cause with power issues but i am unsure, i am awaiting a replacement next week as i do not have a spare to test this. I will ask to have the graphics card replaced if the new PSU does not resolve the issue. Any knows issues with the parts i have picked? Any suggestions are welcome. System Specs: Windows 10 (64 bit, up to date) Nvidia 3060ti Zotac Twin edge (drivers up to date) MPG Z490 Gaming Edge Wifi motherboard 16Gb of Ram (Team Group Delta) Intel i7 - 11th Gen 11700k @3.6 GHz 850 watt modular Nfortec Sagitta
  5. I recently upgraded the motherboard, processor, and graphics card in my PC. After starting it up, however, it goes to a black screen and returns to the windows 10 login screen after being up for 5 minutes. The lights and fans still stay on during the reboot process. In event viewer, it shows that I have run into a Kernel Power Failure (41) error. I've tried looking it up already and attempted multiple solutions to fixing it, including: Buying a more powerful power supply (750W from 550W) Moving to a different power outlet in the house Reseating RAM and graphics card Reinstalling chipset, networking, audio drivers Running sfc /scannow and dism.exe /online /cleanup-image /restorehealth Reinstalling Windows Reinstalling Windows on a different SSD Switching to my old graphics card (GTX 1070ti > GTX 970) So far, none of the solutions have worked so far. Hoping someone could help me out. The XML file from event viewer is also attached to the post. Running Windows 10 in safe mode is the only way I can get to the event viewer and check logs or drivers without the system rebooting. Old specs: CPU: Ryzen 5 2600 GPU: ASUS STRIX GTX 970 Memory: 16GB (2 x 8GB sticks) G.SKILL SSD: 256GB ADATA XPG SX8200 PRO Motherboard: Asrock B450m-HDV PSU: Cooler master MWE White 550W New specs: CPU: Ryzen 5 5500 GPU: ASUS STRIX GTX 1070ti Memory: same as before SSD: SK Hynix 256GB M.2 Motherboard: MSI B550M Pro-vdh wifi PSU: Corsair CX750M semi-modular kernel-power-error.xml
  6. Here is my Build: Processor: AMD Ryzen 7 3800X (NEW) Motherboard: B450-A PRO (NEW) Graphics Card: nVidia GTX 1060 6 GB (1 Year old) Case: RAIDMAX SMILODON ATX-612WB RAM: G.SKILL Aegis 16GB (2 x 8GB) 288-Pin DDR4 SDRAM DDR4 3000 (PC4 24000) Desktop Memory Model F4-3000C16D-16GISB (NEW) Power Supply: CORSAIR TXM Series, TX750M, 750 Watt, 80+ Gold Certified, Semi Modular Power Supply (1 year old) Cooler: Ryzen Stock Cooler (Wraith Prism) (NEW) Hard Drive: ST3320620AS SSD: PNY CS1311 240 GB Here is my problem, my computer shuts itself off. I ruled out thermal issues through looking at the temperatures through BIOS and other monitors and the fan is still spinning consistently. I took apart the PC in an attempt to try and fix the issue, because I had the idea that the motherboard was causing an electrical short with the plate on the back of the case. I have never overclocked any part of my system. And for a time it seemed as if my issue was solved by removing the back plate entirely from the computer case. Until these last few days when the computer has, once again, begun to shut itself down. Without being under load a significant load. There are no cable changes occurring, no vibrations occurring in the surrounding space, and things seem to be going fine, until the computer shuts itself down. In an effort to try and cause a BSOD to tell some kind of information and rule out certain possibilities, I disabled the automatic restart that occurs, but the shutoffs are still occurring without displaying any sort of information. There did not seem to be anything wrong with the way the motherboard was mounted on the case, and now that there is no back plate on the case where the USBs are plugged in, there should not be a short there. Another little tidbit of information that might lead to the conclusion of a power distribution failure is that VERY RARELY (twice in the last month) when I try and run certain games, the monitors will go black, as if they were no longer connected to the computer, and then they would come back on. Only once did the monitors not come back on, but while that was happening, the sound was still playing through my headphones. I was monitoring the temperatures in the bios when shutdowns were occurring, for the CPU and the GPU (The computer once or twice shut off while I was staring at the temperatures in the bios). I recently got into checking the reliability monitor tool, but it doesn't display any helpful information. When I look in the event viewer it doesn't have any recent hardware events at the shut off time, only the critical message when I reboot the pc saying that the shutoff that occurred at a given time was unexpected. Nothing is out of the ordinary there. If at all possible I would like to save doing a reinstall of windows as a last resort. The CPU, MB, and RAM were all new, but the case I have is not a new case, it is the same case that I have had for the past decade, so one idea is that the new MB is occasionally making contact with the case and that is causing the short. NOT SURE ABOUT THAT ONE. I did not reinstall the OS, the HDD and SSD are still the same as before. This particular type of issue is exclusive to since I upgraded the MB, Processor, ram. If it were a software issue causing my crashes, wouldnt that cause a BSOD? I believe that either there is still a short somewhere, or there has been irreparable damage done to the power supply (be it because of the shorting or because of another type of failure within that part. What seems to be the cause of the problem and how do you recommend I approach solving it?
  7. Hey guys! I hope you can give me some feedback / suggestions. I have the Hadron Hydro case and I had a power failure in my neighborhood while using my PC. When the power came back and I turned my PC back on, the PSU fan stuck to 100% speed permanently. Would this be a sign of a failing PSU? My system is connected to a power surge protector (not UPS). My system specs are: CPU: Intel i7- 4790K (oc to 4.5GHz) Motherboard: Asus Maximus VII Impact Memory: 16GB G-Skill Trident X 3200MHz (2x8GB) Storage: Samsung 850 Pro 250GB SSD + Western Digital Black 1TB HDD GPU: EVGA GTX 970 FTW+ (no OC) Case: EVGA Hadron Hydro PSU: Built-in to case, 80+ Good 500W After restarting the PC a couple of times and not getting any difference, I removed the overclock from my CPU and the fan slowed down a little bit after the 100% startup check, but then stayed stuck to something close to 100%. I'm not familiar with PSU failure signs, so I was wondering if my PSU might be failing or is it still safe to use. Thanks a lot guys!
  8. Hello, I'll keep this short. I run Furmark, and as I hit the button to start the bench mark the computer suffers total power loss. I also get this when I load some games up. GTA, BF4 etc. However when I run other bench marking software and play other games the computer performs flawlessly. No idea whats wrong. I have tried MEMtest, Reinstalling windows, older drivers for GPU, disabling cf. All have had no effect. Nothing is overclocked also. Hardware/software. CPU: i5 3570k, GPU: R9 290 in cf Mobo: Asus P8z77 Deluxe, RAM: 16GB corsair vengance OS: Win 10 64 Any advice is really appreciated as I am at a total loss.
  9. Hello Everyone! if anyone could help explain to me if Intels HQ series of CPUs bad? my Alienware 15 when playing games thermal AND Power Throttles both the CPU and GPU. anything is Helpful.
  10. The past few days, my PC has been having power failures during gaming. I have tried re-seating the DIMMS, re-seating the GPU, and re-seating the CPU, but not having any luck. My PSU is from 2015. Antec HPC-1000 Platinum and not pulling any more than 390 watts. Am I missing anything?
  11. This is all mostly just conjecture and a theory at this point, but it seems to make sense at this time. For the past six months ,and perhaps coincidentally ever since we had some work done on the house, I have been suffering with kernel power failures on my machines. Initially it was on my late 2012 iMac that I had owned for a year, and other than having its screen replaced due to ghosting, it ran fine. I was convinced at the time that the iMac was malfunctioning, as it would shut down on both sides of my partition on Windows and OSX, almost always during high power consumption GPU tasks like video editing and playing games. At the time I never considered that it could be anything other than the Mac that was at fault. On sending the iMac in twice for assessment by Apple, they couldnt find anything wrong with it, and it never suffered any power failures when it was in their care. Due to my persistence the engineers decided to replace the logic board, I guess as a kind of fail safe fix. This obviously did nothing and I was suffering power failures soon after I got it back. I then put in for a complete replacement, and got one through Applecare that immediately went on ebay. I sold it and set out to build my own machine. Specs: i7 5820k H100i MSI X99 SLI Plus 16gb Crucial Ballistix Sport DDR4 EVGA GTX 980 SC ACX 2.0 Corsair RM750 80+ Gold I built this machine about two weeks ago and up until a few days ago it worked great, but over the last few days it has started to act exactly the same as the iMac did, shutting itself off when playing games, particularly World of Tanks, and Skyrim. This started to make me consider the possibility of the issue being with the power outlet or the mains supply. This could just be a coincidence but the power failures almost exclusively occur in the afternoon/evening. When power consumption in the household and neighborhood are much higher than during the earlier hours. My iMac would work flawlessly during the day time and only start to malfunction later on in the evening. The actual mechanics of the shut down are this: With the iMac it would simply go black, my external monitor would remain on, and nothing else in the room would lose power. I would then have to turn the plug physically off at the switch for several seconds, and then on again for the machine to work. I had tried a few different plugs. With the new machine both monitors go black, but due to my case having a windowed side I can see that none of the components have turned off due to all of the L.E.D's remaining turned on. They dont appear to flicker. Sometimes the machine will reboot, other times it remains blank and I will have to physically press the reset button. I have tried several plugs including routing an extension from another room, neither of which seemed to make any difference. At this point I am considering buying a UPS as a fix, I know I should probably have one already but up until now it seemed like an unnecessary expenditure. Or could the problem simply be a coincidence and it is my hardware that is at fault? Any advice would be absolutely amazing at this point as I am only a amateur and don't have much technical knowledge at all. Thanks for reading Joshua

Gtx 660 Intel Core i5 3570k Asus P8 H77-V LE 1 terabyte hard drive 8 Gigabytes of ddr3 corsair Vengance Ram Finally an Antec high current gamer *850 watts* of power The 850w psu is more than enough to power all of this and more. I just don't know what the problem is
  13. Hello, I recently have been having the issue when playing games on my System it restarts after a short period of time. I first would like to notes this is my BACKUP SYSTEM so the specs in my signature are irreverent. Here are the specs of my backup PC: AMD FX-6300 (6 Core) (Stock Cooler) OC @ 4Ghz Gigabyte 78LMT-USB3 8GB of DDR3 (1 DIMM) 1TB HDD Powercolor DEVIL r9 270x Fractal Design Core 1000 LEPA MX-F1 600W ATX Power Supply It could be overheating as I have seen my r9 270x reach temperatures as high as 94c but I heard with the r9 200 series, that is actually quite normal so I'm not sure what to conclude from here unless the Power supply is sufficient though there are plenty of watts unless of course this is a issue with the quality. Thank you everyone for your assistance in advance.
  14. This all started when my webcam stopped working and now when ever I try to restart my computer crashes, and when ever I try to shut it down, windows will shut down almost instantly and my actual system will stay on (fans, lights, etc) in which I will have to unplug my power cord from my p.s.u., but then it still stays on as the blue lights on my motherboard will stay on and so will my mouse's led's. When my computer crashes on restart, it says to look up "DRIVER_POWER_STATE_FAILURE" in which I cannot find a single fix, when I look in my event logs, it gives me "Kernel-Power, #41", also no fix. I cannot install any updates to my drivers such as Ge force Experience, Steam, etc. I thought that it might have been a miss-installed driver for the webcam, but when I try to uninstall it (this go's for any of the updates I can't install either) the progress bar stays frozen forever unless I restart explorer.exe. I cannot access the devices and printers part of my control panel. When I check in the computer settings menu in windows 8.1 it says that the device app is not installed, and it wont let me delete the device from there either. Please help me.
  15. I just updated my rig: My current system... ASUS P8Z68-V PRO Intel Core i7-2600K 4 sticks of G.SKILL Ripjaws Series 8GB (2 x 4GB) DDR3 SDRAM DDR3 1600 I also upgraded to a Samsung SSD 850 Pro I went from a GTX 580 to a 980 Ti. I thought my power supply was the issue (being old or some unknown reason). So I recently purchased a 1k Watt EVGA power supply. Ever since I installed my new video card and SSD my computer has been randomly restarting. The computer completely shuts down with no warning. I do not see any screen tearing, slow down, or artifacting. The restarts usually occur when I am playing a video game, and rarely when I am watching Twitch.tv. I thought it was my power supply failing, so I purchased a new 1k Watt EVGA power supply. Yes I know it is overkill. My temperatures are not the issue. I have been monitoring them and they do not spike. I am at a complete loss with what to do next, and I appreciate any help or advice!
  16. I've been using this system almost every day for the past 7 months. It has worked completely fine with no indication of error at all, but now it will not power on. Whether I use the casr button, the button on the mobo, or jumping the pins, it flashes on really quick and then turns off. It's just enough time for my LEDs to flash on and for the fans to rotate a few centimeters. It's not enough time for the mobo to post any error codes, so I can't be sure what's wrong with it. I was building a PC for a friend, and his acted similarly when I tried to jump it after forgetting to plug in the CPU power, so I think that either my 8-pin CPU cable is broken, or my CPU itself. I just wanted to get a second opinion. I have done the standard testing of switching surge protectors, unplugging the power supply and most of my components, and trying everything one by one, although I don't have a replacement CMOS battery so I haven't tried that. I really appreciate anybody who can offer help or advice. Thank you. System in case anybody might need: CPU: 4690k GPU: GTX 970 Mobo: Gigabyte G1. Sniper Z97 PSU: Rosewill Lightning 800w
  17. Basically I can't boot into windows and the reset your pc option is not working. Over the past 2 weeks or so we have been having a lot of nasty storms coming through and yesterdays was no different. Like i always do i went to go turn my computer off some kind of power failure, usually its just short brownouts or the lights flickering a little, After i started the shutdown i walk away to look out the window and a short while later I heard the computer shut off(at the time I didn't think anything of it but it was a fast shutdown and around the same time my light had slightly dimmed but again). What i believe happened was there was a slight drop in power which caused something to shutdown, I don't know what exactly happened but something happened (my only guess are that a drop in the power caused the computer to shutdown or maybe the processor crashed due to lower power I really have no idea). Anyways later that evening I went to boot my computer back up and I got the "Preparing Automatic Repair" and I wondered what happened and went oh well and let it do it's thing. After it finally got to 100% it rebooted and thats when I got the BSOD saying CRITICAL_PROCESS_DIED, thats when I went oh shit, and it gave me the option to restart or advanced options so i restarted and the something happened. At this point I was getting a little scared. I didn't want to mess to much with anything so I turned my computer off and went online to see about my error. Upon searching I found a few things but nothing to useful and basically came to the consensus that this wasn't going to fix itself. I went back on and went into the advanced options and started windows normally, that failed, then I attempted to boot into safe mode and that also failed. Next I tried a system refresh and that quickly gave the message "There was a problem refreshing your PC. No changes were made." So i then went into command prompt and used SFC /SCANNOW, somewhere online I read that would work, it didn't and instead said "There is a system repair pending which requires reboot to complete. Restart Windows and run sfc again. (What they don't tell you is you actually need to make it into windows for it to be complete) So I restarted my computer and tried again and got the same thing so I tired it again and then found out that I need to successfully boot into windows for it to work. At this point I realized I need to cut my losses and do a system restore. It wasn't so bad I had one from three days earlier and the only thing that had been updated (besides steam and steam stuff) was my graphics driver. Alright so I selected the restore point and hit next and then went to select my OS drive but I ran into another problem. In the list of drives under the status column it said "You must enable system protection on this drive". That was really strange, I had drive protection enabled I even had the restore points. Well I looked some more online and found no fix for that. Today when I got home I went back on my computer and tried some of the same stuff again with no luck. This is when I pulled out the old windows 8.1 install disc and I realized that sadly my install of windows was fubar and there was nothing I could do to save it. I inserted the disc and booted into the repair mode and selected Reset your PC. Then I got this a message saying "Insert your Windows installation or recovery media to continue", well that is odd my install disc was already in. I popped it out and in again and a spiny thingy showed up saying verifying then "The media inserted is not valid. Try again." Try again WTF is that supposed to mean. Well anyways I tried again and got the same thing and then again with the same result. I really hope this isn't windows pulling some shady crap because you already have windows installed already and used your code blah bitty blah blah blah ToS, EULA blah blah. Anyways the only way to create windows recovery media is from your computer. Great, how do they expect you to create recovery media when you can't boot into windows. So this is where I am left at right now. I have come to the conclusion that all hope has been lost on anything less then a full system reset but if anyone has any ideas or knows anything that could help me please tell me, I will try anything. That being said I need away to reset windows without access to any recovery media or away to get the install disc to be recognized as valid. I will try to upload the log file when and if I can find it. Windows said it put it in E:\Windows\System32\Logfiles\Srt\SrtTrail.txt one problem , the E drive would be my optical drive which has the windows installation disc in it, and if i am not mistaken those are read only. Also I have two hard disks one for the OS and almost everything (sadly I think I will lose all of it) and my other drive which has all my games, my school stuff and a few other random things. My question about that is the seconded drive shouldn't be wiped of anything when doing the reset correct? Also if it will be unplugging it should work and there shouldn't be any corruption to my personal data because the power loss happened during shutdown and that stuff should not have been touched. So should that be the case or no? Edit: Ok so I went through the install disc I couldn't find anything. There isn't even a Windows folder and though I was not using a windows machine to view the disc I think the E drive my be referring to my main OS drive which is weird. I thought that no matter what the location of the OS was always the C drive but anyways looks like I wont be able to get the file unless someone has another way.
