Original message: New: I tried connecting another internal SATA device to my computer and it wont detect the new device. Recently, attempting to connect a brand new sata device causes the computer to crash. Booting after a crash it sometimes does not post, but may post after showing an error screen saying the system has failed to boot. It will load into the operating system, load to desktop but functions poorly ( low desktop FPS ) which is an entirely new issue. Restarting the computer usually results in windows reporting an error, or the computer failing to post several times. My specs are: Windows 10 home 64 bit American Megatrends International, LLC. 2.07, 10/6/2022 13th Gen intel(R) Core(TM) i9-13900KS, 3200MHZ, 24 Core(s), 32 Logical Processor(s) 2x16GB G.Skill trident Z5 RGB Series (intel XMP) DDR5 z790 steel legend wifi 1080Ti Duke (B0722YBZGK) GPU WD Black SN750 NVMe SSD (wds100t3x0c-00sjg0) Boot drive EVGA Supernova 1600 T2 The old drives were Seagate 2TB FireCuda Solid State Hybrid Drive (ST2000DX002) I'm going to leave the computer completely off for now.

Hey! Thanks for passing by! Specs Windows 10 - 64bit BIOS v6.0? It's what's shown up in the POST CPU - AMD FX-8350 (AM3+) RAM - HyperX HX312C10F/8 (DDR3) MOBO - GA-78LMT-USB3 (rev. 5.0) PSU - Cougar CMX 850W GPU - Sapphire - Radeon R7 370 Case scenarios: PC does not POST, keeps on until the power is cut off. PC does POST, then: It reboots/shuts down randomly (black screen) from the POST screens to early usage of the OS (0~10min) (if it shut off by this issue recently, tends to get in a reboot loop, going from start beep, up to the first OS seconds) It shuts down with heavy usage (seems that was solved) It simply works (but just randomly happens), and handles fine heavy GPU usage (and CPU too, it gets super hot) I don't get any error messages. If reboots a lot it just does shut down. What I have done: Tried on-board video (Removed the E-GPU) (Helped in getting POST scenarios more frequently) Reapplied thermal paste to the CPU (It was shutting off by heavy usage too) (Got to run games and heavy applications for hours, got a week of everything working fine, just had to swap the RAM slot sometimes) Reapplied thermal paste to the chipsets (haven't got no-POST scenarios since then) Surely is a hardware issue, I need to pin down what's the faulty component I'll see where i can check the BIOS version, before it shuts off, in 5 min

Hi. How to bookmark/save forum posts to find them later for reference?

I didn't quite know where to post my problems, since it includes multiple issues and parts while booting, so I hope it's fine here. If not please let me know! First and foremost my specs: OEM: Windows 10 64bit OEM Key CPU: i7 8700k Mobo: Asus Maximus X Hero RAM: 32GB 3200mhz GPU: EVGA 2080 FTW3 PSU: RM750x Storage: 1x Samsung 850 250gb (OS and Programs) 2x Samsung 860 500gb and 1x Samsung 970 500gb (I have my online and favourite games on the 860's, and move others on the 970) 1x 2tb WD Black and 1x 6tb WD Black (I have a lot of games on steam and etc, so I download and install them on the 6tb, to then later move em to the 970. I do this because of my slow internet speed and some games load just fine) The Issues are: 1. Whenever I boot up my PC, it needs 2 cycles/posts at least I had looked up if it is my PSU or Mainboard and both seem to have some threads relating to this issue (but it seems to be clearly a issue with the board in general), clearing CMOS multiple times didn't change that it doesn't really bother me that much since I'm aware it's a general issue and it doesnt take a lot of time, but maybe somebody managed to fix it somehow or has an suggestion 2. The loading screen after the bios prompts takes around 20~40 seconds, if not more I was wondering if it's clearly only because of the amount of connected drives, also whether changing the 6TB HDD for a big SSD and also removing the 2tb HDD might improve it, since I will finally have fiber in a few months which would make my 6tb redundant. I also had clean installed the OS and the Programs on my 970 for testing purposes a few months ago, which made no difference at all 3. Rarely, really rarely I get no picture while my PC is booting and afterwards I have to restart it once and it's fine again. Just wanna know if it is normal. a Sidenote: I have my PC and everything else (Monitors and such) connected to a power strip, which is then connected to a powerline adapter. I always turn of the power strip, when my PC isn't needed. Just in case if there might be something related. I would be really grateful for some help, since these issues are bothering me since I have my PC, but I just now have finally have the time to take things apart if needed and such. Also if there are any questions please feel free to ask ofc!

Hi all, I just installed some new RAM in my ASUS Z370-A II mobo and now it's deciding not to boot. I do have access to the BIOS but it refuses to boot past the ASUS logo after BIOS. It fully recognizes the RAM and they are installed in the correct slots. I have moved to two 16GB sticks from four 8GB sticks. My new RAM is the G.SKILL TridentZ RGB. I have flashed the BIOS, and made sure that all defaults were loaded. Sometimes, instead of refusing to boot past the ASUS logo, I will get the logo and a "preparing automatic repair" thing from what appears to be Windows 10. This isn't the first problem I have had with this board as it will periodically stop recognizing some of my USB devices after booting. Any help is appreciated!

The system was not super useful so I decided to upgrade it last week (the build above). I purchased a Cooler Master S600 Silencio case, 5 noctua fans and a Gigabyte Radeon RX 5500 XT Gaming OC 4G to bump up the living room system. The 2X 8g were added 2 weeks ago in an attempt to improve performance a bit (I had them on hand, so why not) BIOS setup The system posts, sees all the components properly identified on the post check AND in the BIOS which is accessible without problem. The boot order is fine too (Disk drive, SSD (windows), HDD). I **tried resetting everything to default in BIOS** just in case. I **switched between the default fast boot and normal boot** too and I've **messed around with the boot order** to see if it was my SSD that was croaking on me. The issue I'm getting Each time I get past the post screen or the boot menu, I get the little white flashing cursor in the top left corner for a few seconds and instead of saying the "press any key to boot from CD" message or booting to Windows, I get nothing. The screen just stays black and the system just stays like that (I've tried leaving it like that for 1 hour to see if it was just doing something without putting out a message). What I've tried I figured maybe there was an issue with SATA on my MOBO so First I rechecked all the plugs, connectors and devices. Then I've tried moving the drives to different SATA plugs, Then I used a USB stick with Windows 10 on it and set it as the first device to boot At this point I figured SATA was not the issue. Maybe the new graphic card? First I checked the GPU's connectors. Then I plugged the HDMI cable into the motherboard's HDMI instead of the graphic card -> I got no image at all (not even post). I'm not sure what to make of this. At this point I don't know what more I can do to diagnose if it's the GPU, but I'm fairly sure the GPU has nothing to do with booting from a CD or USB... I also looked at booting with the case open to see if anything looked fishy. No dice. A few hypothesis' I have CPU cooler is caput. I might have mishandled my mobo by grabbing it by the cpu cooler to position it in the case. My CPU cooler is fairly old, as well. Too many fans I have 5 case fans +1 the cpu cooler, my mobo has only 2 fan connectors so I'm using a fan extender thingy. I've been using that thing for months now with other fans without issue. Could the noctua be drinking more juice and somehow causing trouble for the mobo? The fan hub has it's own dedicated plug on my PSU however... The GPU is PCIE 4.0 and the Mobo is PCIE 2.0. Somehow that's causing compatibility issues? I don't know. Does not seem likely or plausible. Bad RAM? I recycled the memory sticks from an old rig and added them to this one. They were purchased a year and a half ago. Despite being recognized by the computer, they are causing trouble because they are not the same clock speed. But then why now? I had them in for 2 weeks without issue... I simply caught something with my hand on the mobo while moving it/ was too rough with the SSD while extracting it, touched something I should not have touched Could be, I have big hands. Any ideas about what could cause this? I'm getting desperate....

Hi, So I accidently replied two times on a giveaway because of internet connection being slow. I replied once at 6:10pm because the site crashed I thought that the reply did not process. THen later at 9:00pm I repeated the reply and it worked. But when I checked my activity apparently the first reply also registered. Please HELP! How can I delete one of the posts.

The post counter says that I'm at 396 but I know for sure I'm at about 410-ish. Anyone know what's wrong? Even with this post it should have updated, but it hasn't...

What are the gild buttons under people's posts for.

Yay! I'm at 1000 posts as of this one! It's interesting to see only 6 a day but at the start there were days of no posting at a time, and I think I average more like 20-30 posts a day now. Edit: aand the counter still says 999...Now a thousand.

Hey Forum. I've just reached 2,000 posts. I have no clue how long I've been on the LTT forum, but it's been a blast. The amount of knowledge I've gained alone has been incredible. I enjoy helping people and the forum is an incredible way to do so. Thanks LMG and the entire community, I guess. Thanks for getting me this far. I have no clue when I'll reach 3000 or 4000. http://linustechtips.com/main/topic/293437-1000-posts/ Edit: aand the counter still says 999...Now a thousand.

YAY! I have reached 1000 posts! Thank you to everyone who helped me out on this forum! Achievement Unlocked!

WOOHOO! Much happy. Very post. Thanks LTT for a great time over the past 21 months! I know 1000 isn't that much overall, but this is momentous in my eyes. Here's to another 1000! (not factorial) (ninja'd)

I'm bothered by that post counter below your avatar in every post you make. What's the point having that counter? Does higher count means we can trust your opinion? Can someone explain that to me? Thanks!

I was wondering how to look back at all your posts in IPB. I could access them by just scrolling down in the posts part of my profile in VB5 (not complaining, this software is a thousand times better), but in IPB I'm not sure how to find them without searching for one in particular (with search). The reason I ask is because I often like to look back and reflect on or fix/update posts that are more than five posts ago. If anyone knows how I'd like to be informed. Edit: I'm sorry if this isn't fit for the troubleshooting forum but I thought it would be the best fit.

When some has a problem with a pc.....Please don't post something like "Omg i have the same problem" because never has some one said that and then that has fixed the problem. Please instead Wait for an answer and post only if it has fixed it so we know what to do! Thank you for your time! EDIT: Rant over

is there a limit on how many of your posts you can seeon your profile? in that case that is a problem for me since I want to be active on every one of my posts.

Well, we are getting close... Are we going to do something special? A giveaway? A party?

Hi everyone, I did a search on this and didn't find much about it, so I just wanted to make a sort of general public service announcement regarding large posts. I'm not a mod or anything, but I see people not using it, so I assume they don't know about it. There is a spoiler tag in the forum. You might see it sometimes. Sadly, I haven't found a button for it. If there is one, it'd be great if someone could point it out. Basically, to use it, just type spoiler surrounded by brackets (These []) at the beginning of what you want in the spoiler and the same thing with a / at the beginning of spoiler at the end of what you want in the spoiler. Example:
*massive post with images and videos*
What the example produces: This makes threads easier to navigate and at the very least hides massive walls of texts. The main problem is when people *quote* these posts without using spoilers. I often put any large post I quote into spoilers or cut down the post to what I want to talk about/address. People who post large images or videos, it'd be lovely if you put those in spoilers by default (when you post them) to save whoever quotes you's time. If there is actually no button for this, one should likely be added at some point. Not sure, haven't seen anything on the forum suggestion thread about it. Thanks, Vitalius P.S. Mods feel free to do whatever with this post. Edit: There is a spoiler "button". Look at the third post of this thread.

I feel that post farming would be less of a problem if post count wasn't so prevalent, and people would be more likely to post only when they have knowledge/input to contribute. I'm not saying I am not guilty of wanting to gain posts, it is precisely why I think it may be a problem. Other's might feel differently, and their are definitely positives (such as seeing what members are active on the forum.) Oh, and I think showing post count when you visit someone's profile would be a good compromise.
