I have a 4:3 display (it is an onyx boox max lumi) and Pop os won't natively display anything besides 1080p 16:9 and 720p 16:9 on it from the pop os display settings. I tried following some instructions on how to fix it from command line and it didn't work. So I messed around with the NVIDIA display settings and was able to get a 4:3 Resolution to work 1440x1080. The thing is it won't save and show up in Pop os settings. Also, that is way lower than the actual resolution of my monitor which is 2200x1650. Anyone know how to fix my issue? Here's a link to what I did to fix the Nvidia settings (which I completely don't understand.) In total, these are the issues I'm still having. I can't fix Mirror mode (I want it to be like it is on windows where on the 4:3 display it looks normal and then on the 16:9 display it has black bars on the left and right and the mirrored 4:3 display is in the middle I can't get a Higher Resolution to work for example I tried 1920x1440 and it didn't work, even though I had the ViewportOut set as "1920x1440+0+240" I can't Change DPI I don't know how to get it to save the monitor settings I set in NVIDA (it resets upon reboot) The new Display settings don't show up in the Pop OS! settings menu (so, it doesn't give me a correct resolution to choose from and I can't change my DPI

Hey guys I'm planning to switch to Linux. Primarily Pop OS or Ubuntu. (from win 11 ofc) I was just wondering if the Epic Games launcher would work on Ubuntu. I read a reddit post where 3 people were have trouble w/ the launcher/store. I wanna know which is the better option in terms of the launcher. (I don't use or wanna use Steam) Also, is there a way to transfer my files for Win 11 to "that" specific OS?

so I followed the tutorial present at https://www.freecodecamp.org/news/how-to-dual-boot-any-linux-distribution-with-windows/ to install linux in a dual boot setup with my windows installation except....when I chose the EFI partition it said it was too small so I had to make a new one of 1 GiB and now when I boot, I don't get that GRUB bootloader screen to let me choose which OS to boot into, how do I fix this ?

Hi I have just installed pop os (Nvidia) on an old Compaq Presario CQ60 114EM (4gb DDR2). Its working quite well but the screen resolution is stuck a 640 x 480 (4:3); and the setting appears to be fixed at this. It appears the CQ60 may be able to reach 1366 x 768; which I'm thinking may make things a little sharper. Any ideas how I can improve the resolution? Many thanks

I installed and and believe I have updated WINE. Do I have to install steme and proton in order to get warthunder to play? Also there are some retro games I would like to play if possible. I heard from another source that older programs are more likely to run because they would have had time to adapt it for wine or some other modification. Do I need to do anything to install and get them to run?

After watching the video Anthony did on Pop Os I decided to finally test drive it to see if I can make a permanent swap to Linux. I installed Pop Os on a spare ADATA SU650 120GB SSD I had lying around. The drive is housed in an external drive enclosure since I am moving the drive between my PC and my Macbook Pro 2014 depending on which machine I am using. I've noticed that while using Pop Os with my Macbook it hitches and stutters very frequently. It makes watching videos or even typing annoying as it hitches constantly. When I have the same drive plugged into my PC I don't have these issues. I have also tested the drive in a second enclosure with the same results. This leads my to believe it is a video driver issue with the Intel iGPU in the Macbook. If that is the case I don't know how to find these drivers nor how to install them. All the articles I can find for ubuntu are nearing 10 years old so they aren't exactly useful. If that's not the case I don't know what I need to try to resolve the issue. Any help will be appreciated. I've also already tried: Reinstalling the OS Ran sudo apt update (all packages up to date) Turned on performance mode quit all but one program to test disabled vpn

On cold boot I proceed to enter the passphrase for my encrypted home folder and it asks me to re-enter passphrase on nearly every submission. The capslock doesn't seem to be working. But whether I use it or not it never accepts password on first try. Also when my password for account login is accepted the screen kind of freezes for 90 secs or something then refreshes back to the login page and this loop does not end. I have to restart my computer from the shutdown option on screen everytime. On the second boot the passwords are accepted with almost no issues and I am logged in properly. What is this stupid issue? how do I fix it?

I have live persistant storage on usb. And Ubuntu Software Center was not running. So I turned to google, and followed these two pages: (If you don't want me to keep using persistant storage, please answer my question at the bottom with leads to another thread.) Page1: https://www.fosslinux.com/1768/fix-ubuntu-software-center-not-loading-issue-in-ubuntu-16-04-lts.htm Commands I was told to write in terminal: sudo apt-get update sudo apt-get autoremove gnome-software sudo apt-get install gnome-software sudo apt-get install synaptic Nothing Happened, then I went to Page2: https://www.maketecheasier.com/ubuntu-software-center-not-working-fixes/ sudo apt-get update && sudo apt get upgrade sudo apt autoremove gnome-software && sudo apt install gnome-software sudo apt-get update && sudo apt-get dist-upgrade -f After I put the last command (-f one) and pressed enter, it said it'd use 150mb. After a few mins, while the commands were still running, I opened software center and it worked. I decided to let it finish, but it was taking too long so I went and came back after 2 hour or so. And saw the screen was black, nothing I did fixed it, so I restarted. After reboot, software center was not working again, and my disk space left was 870mb from 3.5GB earlier. After this I just want a normal install of Pop Os as many are suggesting, but I need to know the answers of some questions, please answer them in this thread:

Hey guys So i recently installed ubuntu on my old laptop alongside Windows 10(dualboot). That's my first time installing Ubuntu ever as i used on VMs. But i screwed up. I installed ubuntu 17.10 which is poorly built os which i installed before in a VM 2 years ago. Like it doesn't have much support for apps. I had a hard time installing grub customizer & wine refused everytime i tried to install it. And it's support in the community is very rare & irrelevant. So i did some research & found out that Pop-OS is one of the best distros based on ubuntu. And it pretty seemed good to me. I already have downloaded the iso. But i already have ubuntu installed on it. So I'm confused whether installing it over ubuntu won't conflict the grub or it won't affect Windows 10 installed on it. Can i just update to Pop-OS through ubuntu?. I'm a newbie to Linux personally but i know to use it. So guys just help me out please. Thank you

Hey all, Bought a cheap-ish SSD (120gb Crucial BX500) Installed Pop-os (had to do twice cos I accidentally deleted the Gnome GUI in package manager ?) & installed all the system updates etc ... Dam its responsive & fast! ? But I got a few problems that are causing big issues. TLDR - Cant copy/create files to other internal HDD`s ? 1 > I installed "Timeshift" so I could take a snapshot (just in case I did something stupid like the above) ... I ran the wizard & the program & now have the "snapshot" in my "computer" folder ( the same folder where the boot, Bin & root folders are ( I would put the path up but I cannot figure out how to make it show )) This is where my issue comes in - whenever I try to copy these to anywhere on my pc that "IS NOT" on this SSD .. I get permission or read-only errors From within Timeshift - If i hit browse it shows me the folder where the snapshot files are contained, I then go back a few directories to find the "snap-shot folder", I then right click and select "copy to" ... I select a partition on a separate HDD that is formatted to the "ext4" format ... and it starts to copy ... however b4 it ends I get this error .. ( the same happens if i drag and drop the folder ) So atm I have a snapshot on the boot drive that I cannot copy to any other part of my system (including usb`s) 2 > The second issue for me is that I cannot get steam to install the games on my "linux games" drive as the drive has a "lost+found" folder on it .... I got around this on my last install of POP OS on a separate 80gb HDD, by just creating a new folder in the drive called "steam" which allowed me to direct steam to it once I had mounted the drive. This time however ... I can mount the drive no probs but I cannot create a folder within it as the option is greyed out? I read that this is all to do with permissions again but I haven't done anything different to my 1st run of POP OS apart from install it on a SSD - So im baffled -In Gparted the "linux games" drive shows that it has no flags selected (I dont know if this makes a difference)? -In "Disks" it says the drive is mounted & running in "Ext4" of which most pages on the net suggest that is the format needed to fix permission problems? I have added other screenshots just in case One things that is confusing me (and might be the problem) is that even tho I have the drive mounted there a "zzz" icon next to the drive I am having issues with comes up every now n then? The folder u can see is a failed copy of the Timeshift saved state files - So in my head, It can create files to that drive - it just wont allow me to do it personally As I mentioned b4, I did get this setup to work when I installed POP on a 80gb HDD about 2 days ago ... so I'm totally baffled again As you can see in the pics - I am running out of SSD space due to me using it to test other features - But I would prefer to keep this SSD purely for POP in the future. I kinda knew that I would be facing a few challenges when moving over to linux ... but this permission issue ... I dont get it .. why does it set the system up without giving the "actual" user basic permissions? Is it just a security thing? If you got this far .. thx for reading & hopefully you can help too ;D

Hi guys, so I wanted to give POP OS a try after seeing it in the videos. But I get neither the LTS nor the 19.04 version to install. After selecting the region, the installer stops after selecting the keyboard layout. I tried selecting other layouts but it didn't work. Do you have an Idea ? Cheers

After few weeks since I bought Dell G5 5587 with i7-8750h and 1050Ti, installed Pop!_ OS and used it for productivity ,I really missed some software(MathCAD, some Steam games, which refuse to work with Proton). So, I installed Windows 10 Pro for WS(mainly for ReFS and less bloat). Aaaaaand almost immediately maxed out my poor 120GB SSD. Also, it a bit a hassle to first boot to Pop than to Windows. So what better for perfomance and storage space: keep current setup(Pop for Blender, Godot, and other productivity) and Windows for everything else or to leave only Windows? Does Linux perfomance boost and lack of BS worth a bit of work?
