  2. Source: https://www.theverge.com/2017/5/10/15614980/uk-durham-police-ai-risk-assessment-policing Seem to be on an AI and machine learning kick today, keeping that going UK police are about to utilise a predictive artificial intelligence system that will determine whether a suspect should be kept in custody. "designed to classify individuals based on a low, medium, or high risk of committing a future offense. Police plan to put it live in the next few months to test its effectiveness against cases in which custody specialists do not rely on the system’s judgement." It remains to be seen if this system will have the same inherent bias against certain ethnicities as previous systems. What do you all think about the future of predictive law enforcement?
  3. Does anybody know a good police simulator for android? I've been looking, but they all seem poorly made.

  5. In a not-so-stunning twist, a serial 'Swatter' has been sentenced to 20 years in federal prison. He has been connected to at least 17 incidents of Swatting.":Tyler Rai Barriss pleaded guilty in November to a total of 51 charges " https://www.nbcnews.com/news/us-news/serial-swatter-tyler-barriss-sentenced-20-years-death-kansas-man-n978291
  6. So before 1 year my phone(Huawei P9 Lite) was stolen and today I got a mail from the police that my phone has been activated, the problem is that I deleted it from my google account. Is there another way to find it?
  7. As part of an awareness campaign, against "Trick-Thievery" (con-artists), the police or northern Jutland in Denmark in a Tweet today, took shots at the new Star Wars Battlefront 2 game, when they tweeted out: "Have you, or someone you know, been victims of Trick-Thievery? Or did you just happen to buy Star Wars Battlefront II? Then join us here, and avoid being tricked [Link]" I find it most amusing that the police has a sense of humor on the topic, along with being pretty "up to speed" with current event. I hope it's allowed to post this in the Tech section. Link:
  8. Argos, a special task force of the Queensland state police in Australia created to combat child exploitation, has been reported to have "hacked" a number of members of 'The Love Zone', a dark web child abuse ring, including 30 US citizens who's IP addresses have been handed to the FBI. After Queensland police arrested the site's owner, Shannon McCoole, Argos they continued to run the site for months, this allowed them to uncover member's IP addresses. There's not much info on how they did this, but court documents indicated they had a video file coded to bypass TOR and connect to an external IP through the user's normal network connection. Then it was just a matter of collating the IP addresses and getting arrest warrants. This operation did not involve the Australian Federal Police. The way in which Argos has conducted the investigation has raised a few eyebrows and some have questioned the legality and ethics of hacking. On the other hand, pedos. So yeah. Source (Motherboard): https://motherboard.vice.com/read/australian-authorities-hacked-computers-in-the-us
  9. So lately. As we have seen there has been a shit ton of issues lately with the police and how they act. And the various issues around the few shootings of " Black " men. I put quotations around black because there shouldn't be " black " shootings. It should just be shootings. You see there are a few reasons why people are hating on the police so much and are basically jumping on the bandwagon in order to feel right or feel something. First issues that is always addressed is police officers, as police officer you should be trained to DE-escalate a situation, which I think we can all agree on, and I believe they're also trained in it somewhat. But what we have to understand is that they're doing this work to protect you, themselves and the community, sure if its a normal stop, you still have to be on your toes in this time and age if your a police member, cause now there is a nothing but pure hate for cops for a reason. second police officers are human. By human I mean they want to live, no one wants to die or get killed, so if a officer gets a called saying someone got a gun you be pretty damn sure cops are going to roll up with weapons drawn, how the hell are they going to know if a suspect has a gun or not and if they are going to shoot cops on sight or not? They can't read bloody minds. Three we're only human. There is people that are racist no doubt, but there is also people being just plain scared of people. Imagine walking down a street and you see three people and they have on saggy clothes, walking with each other making gun figures and are in tattoos and what seems to be a weapon, coming your way. Wouldn't you feel a little worried, just simply by what they wear and act? Now if they were walking and laughing and in casual clothes like jeans and dress shirts you wouldn't feel scared. You may not realize this people but we are naturally afraid of things that are unknown and what seem to be a threat. For example you wake up and see a wall in red with splatters everywhere and in a location you dont realize whats your first reaction? Obviously freaked out and scared. But if you woke up in a room with a wall in blue and splatters everywhere and still in a unknown location you would be somewhat scared but not as much compared to the first room. What am getting at is HUMANS ARE SCARED, WE LOOK FOR DANGER AND AVOID DANGER. Why do you think when we look into something pitch black and feel a shiver down our spine? Its because we do not know whats in the darkness we are in going without any idea or light into the darkness. Four the media. The media plays a huge part in this who police conflict thing. For example if a news network received that a grandma slipped and fell and a officer shot and killed a black person which one do they choose? Of course the officer who shot a and killed a black person. Why? cause it's gets them ratings and reviews and things that work. Oh a dog died after getting hit by a truck meh, BUT a police officer shooting someone OH LETS AIR THAT. Its all about making money and views and getting the most controversial thing on the air in order to maximize rankings. You really think every news network decided to broadcast the france shooting cause they care ? Okay maybeish, but also to get ratings and views. Five. Is that YOU GOT TO LISTEN TO POLICE OFFICERS. Shit MOST OF THE TIME MOST PEOPLE DONT LISTEN TO WHAT OFFICERS SAY. IF THE BLOODY COPS SAY SIT THE FUCK DOWN YOU SIT DOWN NO QUESTIONS ASKED! You gotta understand that cops have authority, and you gotta listen to them and DONT QUESTION THEM. I have seen tons of videos of cops pulling people over or asking them to stop doing what they're doing but they don't listen, and it leads to escalating the situation. Six Cops aren't movie stars. Look at this video. COPS ARE NOT TRAINED TO WOUND THEY ARE TRAINED TO KILL SOMEONE IF SOMEONE IS HOSTILE OR ATTACKS ANOTHER OFFICERS. Look at this video, look the officer tries to shoot the suspects legs and misses three times. It doesn't work like that, plus cops are trying to be efficient and take down the hostile as quickly as possible, and it can take more shots than needed to take down hostiles and not to mention you lose some ammo, if you got a seven shot pistol and miss three shots as that guy did oops you only got four shots left, and what if you miss the remaining four oops your screwed and requires you to lose some time against a hostile. Seven some cops aren't good and some are. As you can see in the video above other than hitting the suspects arm with a baton in order to disarm the weapon, some random guy also kicks the suspects head/neck for good measure even after he is down, as you can see his buddies back him off because he's being more aggressive than needed. This is what is needed, some cops making sure their buddies aren't being more aggressive than needed, although am not entire sure if that person in the black and white lined shirt was a cop or normal person. Below you can see in the video COPS ARE GIVING MULTIPLE WARNINGS EVEN BEFORE PULLING THE TRIGGER TO FIRE. And some cops firing within a second of giving warnings. Or cops firing because suspects have weapons pointed at officers. Eight the human body can take a lot of damage. You see even with a taser shot and the target down, people can still swing wildly as shown in this video. You see the reason why tasers can be so ineffective and effective is because everyone is different and plus various errors with the taser as a tool, the taser uses two prongs/needles to THAT MUST pierce skin in order to work, if the needles don't penetrate to the skin, then you have to account for different peoples level of pain and tolerance and resilience to pain Below showing a different type of person high on drugs and making the person immune to taser, physical pain and pepper spray. Nine. Hate culture surrounding the police. There is a certain little hate culture around the police and they must deal with that. On a constantly daily basis which isn't good for cops and isn't good for the people either cause who knows, maybe one traffic stop routine could end up completely bloody. In that, hopefully things get better, and people listen to the police and understand some police are trying to do their jobs and protect their comrades when needed. But also remember a bad apple is in every tree.
  10. This is the second time it had happened, my phone calling 911 on its own. I keep on getting calls from this private number but this was the first time I had answered it. She asked me if I had a emergency and that I had to tell her or she would send the police. I told her I didn't have any emergencies and my phone is calling 911 on its own. Finally after about ten minutes she gave up and believed that we had no emergencies. I later looked in my call log to find that my phone has called 911. At that time that my phone called i was running around.
  11. Share you stupidest (REAL) news stories from the paper or the web!
  12. So I have been bored lately, and been watching a lot of Youtube videos about the police being wrong and breaking the law when arresting people. I just have to feel that those officers who are in the wrong may be power trips and not want to admit they are wrong because they are too deep into the arrest that it would be embarrassing for them to pull the plug and set whoever they are arresting free (protecting their own ego). For example, it is perfectly legal not to identify yourself to an officer if you are not being arrested or detained, but there are so many videos about police officers demanding their names or ID cards out of the blue. What are your thoughts on all of this? Are SOME of them just ignorant about the laws that they are SUPPOSED to enforce? Or do they just not have anything better to do like stopping actual crimes from happening?
  13. The police are going to be granted access to view the internet history of everyone in the UK. Companies and firms are going to have to by LAW to keep the last 12 months of internet history of everyone using a device (on their network?!). Police would also be able to access specific web addresses visited by customers. I believe this will be this will be for all individuals as well. At this moment in time the poll stands as this (out of 8000 people): I bet some of you are thinking "Why the hell did you vote yes?!!!!". Well, I think they have every right to view it. I have nothing to hide, even if I did I guess there are ways around it such as VPN (unless they have access to that as well). I think it will do good to fight cyber crime and terrorism. Ok yeah, there are risks. People could get that data and leak it, but oh wait... it is my internet history. They might find out that I am looking for local women in my area. (I don't really look, I just clicked on it by mistake  ). And there it is also open to abuse (like everything else is). Such as if you could get onto that persons PC/Network then you can spoof all of those and make it look like he is trying to look for unsavory things. What do you think? I think it will help a lot to tackle crime and will save a lot of time and money with the police and investigation teams. Sources: http://www.telegraph.co.uk/news/uknews/crime/11964655/Police-to-be-granted-powers-to-view-your-internet-history.html http://www.msn.com/en-gb/news/uknews/police-to-be-granted-powers-to-view-your-internet-history/ar-BBmAHxG EDIT: http://strawpoll.me/5872169
  14. Source: Their Twitter - reason for not linking direct later on in post. So Anonymous, or a member of Anonymous or someone trying to claim to be part of Anonymous, has shown their attempt to support for the people of Baltimore with the latest attack against the Baltimore Police Department. They (being an "Anonymous twitter account" just linked on their twitter feed a Pastebin of email addresses for the officers of the Baltimore PD. Why I am not linking direct, I don't want to get in to any forum or legal troubles, if you look quick, you may find the tweet before it gets removed. But, I have taken a screenshot to show this is not fake, but have also blurred out the email addresses for the reason stated above. My thoughts. While yes, supporting people is good and all, I don't think it is wise putting the emails of officers out to the public. 15. Source: http://www.macrumors.com/2015/07/27/factory-counterfeit-iphones/ $19 million worth of counterfeit smartphones. Holy balls. That's a lot of fakes right there. Good to see China does something sometimes when it comes to counterfeits of other products.
  16. The police seem to not like the fact that this app exists for use by the general public it seems. I know its a point of contention that people have access to near instantaneous reports with respect to accidents and speed cameras. I'm of the opinion that the police forces need to spend less time worrying about how to hand out speeding tickets and more time patrolling the roads for actually dangerous drivers. We've had this issue in our city too, the City runs our program and they get awfully butthurt when people challenge their claims about "increasing driver safety" and whatever else to justify the expense of photo radar programs. Then again, they'll do anything to protect their golden parachutes from being plastered with holes. Instead of saying "for the children" they're saying "for the greater good". Excellent improvement, isn't it? http://globalnews.ca/news/1800136/police-expand-concerns-about-waze-app-say-it-interferes-with-speeding-tickets/
  17. A UK man has been arrested as part of an investigation into denial-of-service attacks on Sony Playstation and Xbox systems over Christmas. The 18-year-old was arrested at an address in Southport, near Liverpool. He is accused of unauthorised access to computer material and knowingly providing false information to law enforcement agencies in the US. The investigation was a joint operation between UK cybercrime units and the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI). Microsoft and Sony were attacked on Christmas Day, making it difficult for users to log on. The distributed-denial-of-service attack - which floods servers causing them to stop working - caused major disruptions. 'Swatting' The arrest was part of a joint operation between officers from the South East Regional Organised Crime Unit (Serocu) and the North West Regional Crime Unit (Rocu), supported by the National Cyber Crime Unit (NCCU). Craig Jones, head of the Cyber Crime Unit at Serocu said: "This investigation is a good example of joint law enforcement co-operation in relation to a type of criminality that is not restricted by any geographical boundaries. "We are still at the early stages of the investigation and there is still much work to be done. We will continue to work closely with the FBI to identify those who commit offences and hold them to account." He explained more about one of the charges, known as swatting. "Offences referred to as 'swatting' involve law enforcement forces in the United States receiving hoax calls via Skype for a major incident in which Swat teams were dispatched." Peter Goodman, national policing lead for cybersecurity at the Association of Police Officers (Acpo), added: "This is a significant arrest... of a UK citizen suspected of engaging in serious and organised cybercrime on the national and international stage." A hacking group called Lizard Squad said it carried out the attacks which caused major disruption to the gaming platforms at one of the busiest times of the year. All information has been taken directly from the BBC website. Source - http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/technology-30849172 Whats also crazy about this is that the man who got arrested, literally lives 30 minutes away from my home....
  18. Intel had to evacuate its Irish based factory due to a credible bomb threat this morning. The police were called and all 4,000 employees were evacuated. 19. Original Article: http://www.technobuffalo.com/2015/03/08/galaxy-note-ii-blocks-bullet-to-save-police-officers-life Article 2: http://www.digitaltrends.com/mobile/galaxy-note-2-saves-cop/ A Police Officer in Thailand has narrowly escaped death or life changing injuries by gunshot due to a certain phone in his pocket. Reportedly, his Galaxy Note II decelerated the bullet enough to note (pun note intentionally made, okay maybe that one was.) fatally injure the police officer. Unfortunately, I could not locate an image of the phone in question. The phone was in his left side pocket and caught the bullet thus not majorly injuring the officer, the phone how ever is a different story and is no longer functioning. Samsung has come out and offered to replace the phone with a brand new Galaxy S6. (That's a nice gesture, since they didn't really have to do anything) and pay any travel expenses that may occur. Apon being offered a new phone, Sergeant Police Major General Sophon Thonglorm (that is one long arsed title) has accepted the offer from Samsung although is yet to fly out to Bangkok to receive his new device. My Thoughts? That officer is one lucky person. I am surprised that the phone was able to decelerate the bullet enough, I personally would have thought it would go right through the phone. Also, props to Samsung as they didn't have to offer him a new phone. Your Thoughts, Please leave them down below.

  21. Eyes on the Prize In the wake of Ferguson Trial & protests, President Obama on Monday will announce $263 million in funding for law enforcement agencies to purchase body-worn cameras and improve training. The White House said the funding, which would need to be matched by state and local police, The money includes $75 million allocated specifically for the purchase 50,000 cameras for law enforcement officers across the country This is just one part of a much larger solution that also includes an overhaul of how the government distributes military gear, but it could make a big difference if it provides video evidence whenever there are complaints of excessive force or rights abuses. the new Body Worn Camera Partnership Program would provide a 50% match to states who buy their own body-worn cameras Obama on Monday is gathering Cabinet officials and civil rights leaders to discuss the distrust between local communities and law enforcement agencies. Even tho camera's are everywhere even with the mobile footages shot by civilians , Police body cameras is going to be pretty useful since even tho regular folks could do use it for evidence there are many many reported news (in extreme cases) of their smart-phones being seized by the officials on site for evidence & later return them with wiped memory sticks, and regular civilians are defenseless in this situation. This will be able to counteract those faulty measures taken by the officers & can to an extend induce a psychological response & refrain from using extra violence under the notion that it's being watched , experts agree on this . This funding, of course, will only be enough to outfit a small fraction of police officers with cameras, and yet, it’s a major vote of confidence from the federal government in a new method of police surveillance that is already proving to be incredibly effective. Obama also plans to overhaul how the federal government disperses military equipment to local police departments, Flipside (a different perspective) Privacy: On the otherside there is also the ignored concern of privacy, With literally hundreds of hours of video generated by police cameras every day, that would present serious problems for both privacy and simple logistics. every interaction , even an unrelated event happening on the side line could be captured & set within the system for years & years and could potentially be abused by any or all person having access to that data.. Blind Spots: Every camera has a blind spot , let alone body worn cameras , when events and occurrences that they miss or don’t catch could be used in a different way. Holding the video as truth, then, can be just as dangerous as not having a record of the police interaction at all. Basically these blind spots can be used by the suspect to fill in falsified event that could go against the officer in a dispute, if the events are under normal circumstances & the official could potentially become the victim. Logistics: public records law requires government agencies to release almost all records in a timely fashion, or face a fine. With thousands of hours of video, which must be blurred and muted to protect people’s privacy, that could become a serious logistical burden for police departments. Technology like this can be pretty useful in this situation , but can also be counterproductive at the same time , The protest response with the given advantage with excessive force is such an example, read this quote from Attorney General Eric Holder Same thing can be said for technology, But These equipments have also been really productive in cases like in Boston event. it depends on the person using/controlling them , Wearable devices are looking to be more effective in these regions.. Pretty harsh topic to deal with But it's really cool to see technology can be used to make potentially explosive situations under control & monitoring , Please do have a rational discussion on this topic if you choose to.. Will request to lock the thread if it gets too far in the comments section. 22. There has been a second shooting near Fergusson. I think gunning him down and killing him on the spot is waaay over the top. Couldm't they have just shot him in a leg? Or used a taser? Or used pepperspray? Or anything non lethal at all? What are these guys thinking?? I'm not from the US, but i can feel the tension from 3000 miles away for crying out loud! I don't know how the Fergusson police is going to solve this... I'm not saying the victim wasn't a criminal, because he was, but gunning him down on the streets is not okay. Not okay at all. A video has been released as well.
  23. He was freed last year but we have only just found out over the past few days as there court day came round. It's strange how I remember seeing a lot of police around that house at that time last year. I've walked past that house everyday to and from school for the past few years long after he was first forced to be a slave. The sentences that the family had got just feels way too short for what they had done to the poor man. http://www.mirror.co.uk/news/uk-news/shocking-cctv-craig-kinsella-held-2997443 http://www.thestar.co.uk/news/local/breaking-vandals-target-home-of-sheffield-family-who-kept-man-as-slave-1-6359447#.Us02J7-_iZc.facebook http://www.thestar.co.uk/news/local/video-slave-ordeal-police-statement-1-6358770 http://www.thestar.co.uk/news/crime/video-battered-sheffield-man-s-slave-ordeal-cctv-footage-1-6358775
  24. So, as it has been said, Linux is the future. Not just for gaming apparently, with Steam's OS, and AMD's Mantle, but apparently for law enforcement agencies too. Story at /. I think this is pretty epic. Note that Gendarmerie Is the Military police force, and usually patrols the country side (taken from comments on the post). I'd make a joke, but some people are sensitive to that. Windows is on the downfall. In related news: Windows' #1 OS is still XP. This is due, mostly, to China using it quite extensively (which correlates with them being the most populace nation in the world). With the coming EOL of XP, Microsoft is basically giving away the keys to the OS (the most exploitable vulnerabilities and such) when this happens on April 8th of 2014. Thereby making XP a horrible horrible choice for anyone to have, ever, for any reason. Except in a Virtual Machine (but even then...). What do you think is going to happen when this becomes reality and China is faced with changing OSes? Hint: Linux is going to become very popular very fast. Calling it now.
  25. Post at Caracas Chronicles. [WARNING: Graphic images and video in the article] Well, things aren't going well. I saw this and noticed it wasn't posted anywhere here, and I know we are a tech forum, but I think things like this are things everyone should be aware of. The fact it isn't plastered anywhere notable, that I can find, kind of says something. So I'm posting this here.
