build help Processor focused build Need Balance Help
Yo_Zack posted a topic in New Builds and Planning
I am currently putting together a list for my first PC build, I've learned a lot over these past few months and have my list now. I'm going for a processor heavy build as my main game is Planetside 2. I would like to be able to stream at least 720p with duh 60 fps. My price range is $1000 to $1500. I don't know if this build is well balanced as far as quality and upgradability is concerned. I'm thinking about upgrading for more RAM if prices do not fall before summer is over, upgrading my GPU if I ever want to play more demanding games, and switching to water cooling if I need it. I will be building it later this summer so no real rush. If anyone can give their insight on my first build, I would really appreciate it. Thanks -Zack -

My friend and I are looking for a few serious people to join us for playing Planetside 2, we play in a close squad supporting one another and want to find more serious players to join us for coordinated tactics. We're looking for people experienced in playing as infantry and armor, but wouldn't say no to good ESF/Liberator pilots/gunners for air support. Ideally we want at least two more people to create a strong infantry squad, and to fill out another MBT. Requirements: Any faction on US West or US East. Able to work well with others and follow direction. Good MBT loadout. Using Teamspeak is a must. Link your PS2 Player Profile/Recursion Stat Tracker sessions, that way we can get an idea of you as a player and if you would fit well with what we're looking for.

So, About a year ago I purchased a Alienware x51 R2 mini gaming pc. Last Sep I upgraded it, Giving it a new GTX 960 4GB, and 16GB of corsair Vengeance pro DDR3 ram. The PC came with an i5 4460. So all is great, games are running really well and I'm happy. Until the last month or so. After so long I decided that I should do a "software clean" removing unused software ( I like to mod Skyrim and stuff so I've downloaded allot of useless software) . I ran Malware bytes CCleaner, and a bunch of software and completely cleaned my PC to the point where I had only a few programs and almost 800GB of games. Everything was even better than when I first got my GPU (keep in mind this was like 3 weeks ago). Fallout 4 was running at 60fps with everything at ultra and 2 things on medium, a couple of frame-drops here and there but overall very well, TW3 was running also had the same settings everything maxed out except two settings both at medium, and JC3 was completely maxed out, most of the time giving me 60fps. All is well. Then I was Chatting with my buddy, and he tells me to get Planetside 2. I was like, "damn I haven't played that in a long time (back then I had a shitty laptop with an i3 and HD 4000 Graphics) but sure I'll get it". And when I'm playing I'm surprised by how low my framerates are during large battles, My GPU usage is at like 45% Cpu usage is at 90-98%. So thats when I do some research, I unpark my cores, OC my GPU a little more (to a stable level duh) and I run it. Still lags like shite. I'm like whatever man, screw this so I go play JC3, welp...... to my suprise the game is barley hitting 40fps, now. I can't see my GPU/CPU usage because Just Cause 3 won't let you, and I'm like "ohh crap". Then I'm like "I'll Just restart it" and guess what that didn't help (it usually does for me). So I decide to check Fallout 4, heh framerates can barley hit 50 inside the Railroad HQ (very small place) and are in the mid 30's outside. So then I re-start it one last time and a miracle has happened its back to 60. Woooohoooo. Then I go run Afterburner to see what's using up my resources. I go back to the game, and we are back to 35 fps. I re-booted again To check if maybe afterburner was f***ing up my PC and nope even without It I can barely hit 40fps. I'm at a loss, I'm completely out of Ideas. Here is a list of things I've tried. -Razer game booster, to close up processes. NOPE -Ctrl+R, ran msconfig, and cleared startup. Surprise! NOPE. -Cleaned registry with CCleaner. NOPE -Ran CCleaner normally. NOPE -Ran Malwarebytes. NOPE nothing. -Un-Overclocked my GPU. NOPE NADA -Verified integrity for all da games. NOPE. -Looked inside my PC for dust. NOTHING. -My CPU runs kinda got 66 C. under full load, but It's been like that forever. So NOPE! -Disabled AVG Until re-start. NOPE. - Made sure all RAM/CPU hogging apps were closed eg. Google Chrome, Spotify, Adobe Photoshop CC. NOPE! And that's it, I'm out of ideas. Why the framedrops? Why all the lag?!?!?!? I'm like a damned philosopher here, I'VE GOT SOOOOOO MANY QUESTIONS and so few answers. And so In my last effort to rid myself of the LAG DEMONS I have come to you, the trusty people of the LTT forums. I'm fairly new here, but I've been watching LTT for years. LTT FORUMS, YOU ARE MY ONLY HOPE. Help me get back to the Commonwealth. I never thought I'd say this, but I WANT to help Preston with his infinite settlements. I wan't to get back to destroying Medici. PLEASE HELP ME GET THROUGH THIS! Thanks for the help guys, full specs are bellow: PNY GTX 960 4GB 16GB Corsair Vengeance PRO ram Intel Core i5 4460 @ 3.2 GHZ Stock Alienware heatsink, with a heat shroud. Windows 10 Nividia VR ready Geforce driver (the newest) Steelseries APEX RAW Razer Ouroboros mouse Wacom Intuos 3 Thanks again, -Michael P.

I recently got myself a GTX 970 because it's a great card with cheap offerings and exclusive bundles from NVIDIA. However, when i use it for a simple games like Planetside 2, msi afterburner would tell me that I've used 3506 vram. I know the card only has 3.5gb of vram but on planetside 2 low settings. When i join a match, it automatically just crashes and when i look at msi afderbutner, it's a steady line on 3506gb of vram My Pc build CPU: I5 4690K GPU: ASUS GTX 970 STRIX RAM: HYPERX 8GB 1600mhz DDR3

This is going to be a long post, and I apologize in advance. Background: About 4 months ago, a friend of mine (who will remain unnamed) had an older computer (Core 2 Quad, DDR2, the works). Then 2 GTX 760s appeared on craigslist for $200, which he bought. My machine at this time was using: AMD FX-8320 MSI 970A-G43 SAPPHIRE R9 270X 4GB I was not happy with my performance and had long been contemplating upgrading to an I5, the highest requirement games I play are: PlanetSide 2 (a lot, I'm addicted to this) GTA V (have not launched yet) Planetary Annihilation (uses a lot of RAM, this isn't an issue and I never notice lag in this game.) I traded my CPU, MoBo, GPU and heatsink for his dual 760s, figuring I could either use or sell them. (I am aware that this was not a good deal on my part, and was aware of this at the time). Then a 4 GB GTX 770 appeared on Ebay and I snapped that up for $200. I then sold the 760s to another friend (@Random32) for $250, which I used with $100 in gift cards to buy: I5 4690k Gigabyte Z97-HD3 CoolerMaster Hyper 212 EVO With my new hardware my performance in PlanetSide 2 jumped, but still drops below 60 in medium-large battles (~70 per side), dropping below 40 in large fights. About 4 days ago, Random32 ran some tests on the cards and discovered that they had been heavily modded by Alienware (they were taken out of a prebuilt). Each card had 1.5 GB, and was running at 800 MHz (these were using reference coolers). We assume this was done to save on wattage. He and I both agree that nobody involved is to blame and that I should buy them back, here are my questions: How much could I sell the "760s" for? Is me giving him my 4 GB 770 (it's EVGA) a good form of compensation? (he is ok with this) Also, I have yet to OC my I5, will overclocking increase my performance in PlanetSide 2? (CPU is currently my bottleneck) And finally, if I do give him my 770, what is the best card I can get for $200 and, depending on the card, will it bottleneck me in PlanetSide 2? Note that I have 3 1080p screens, with the game running on one while smaller apps such as Chrome or TeamSpeak run on the others, this has been the case since before this entire thing started. Planetside 2 is running off a SSD separate from my OS or other programs. I apologize for the length of the post, but I am in need of advice and trust this forum more than any other.

Hello everyone I'm new to this community however I have watched many of Linus' youtube videos on all of his different channels and I love them! They have helped me out a lot and are funny. Really great vids, keep it up guys! Anyways... I am about to buy a new rig. Won't go into too many details as I waffle too much so here are my thoughts: Rig 1: AMD System CPU: FX 8350 (8 x 4GHz, AM3+ socket) MoBo: ASUS M5A97 EVO GPU: ASUS R9 290X 4GB (or possibly XFX R9 280X 3GB to save money but might be worth the upgrade, not sure) RAM: Corsair Vengeance 8GB 1600MHz (2 x 4GB, the ones with the heat-sink fans on them) PSU: Corsair CS650M (650W, 80+ Gold) SSD: Samsung 840 EVO Basic 2.5" 250GB (SATA III) HDD: Seagate Barracuda 7200RPM (SATA III) Case: Antec GX500 Midi Gaming Tower CPU Cooler: Zalman CNPS12X Ultimate Performance (3 x 120mm fan) OS: Windows 8.1 (x64... duh) ~£950 total Rig 2: Intel System CPU: i5 4690K (4 x 3.5GHz, 1150 socket) MoBo: ASUS Z97-K GPU: EVGA nVidia GeForce GTX 770 4GB SC Edition Everything else is the same as above as it should all be compatible. ~£1060 Basically, I want to play games like Planetside 2, Dark Souls/2, Witcher 2, the upcoming Bloodborne and future games like these with maxed out graphics (as much as I can at least) with minimum of 40fps, ideally 60+fps. Which rig will be best for this? I have read sooooo many things and am now more confused than when I started out. Does Planetside 2 use 6 threads now? Would the AMD rig therefore be better at playing it? More titles nowadays are using 5+ threads so surely the AMD rig would be better for this? Then again single thread performance is also necessary and the i5 is better for this. Any help is MUCH appreciated and will help cure my headache and hopefully those of others Looking forward to a healthy discussion! No fanboy comments please: I'm usually an AMD guy but at the same time I know they have been disappointing recently, so I'm willing to give Intel a shot so long as the price is fine. This is the limit of my budget really, so this is the best I can do for the money. But suggestions are welcomed if they are worth the extra cash.

PlanetSide 2 Platoon Vanu Sovereignty Requirements: - Must have a PSN account. - Must be in the Palos US Server. - Must be part of the Vanu Sovereignty. Basics: - The Platoon Leader (Lieutenant) will communicate with Squad Leaders (Sergeants) through group chat. - Squad Leaders will then communicate the objectives to their squads. Advanced: - If you are a squad leader or platoon leader you may edit an excel document which will allow you to: name your squad, add soldiers to your squad, and add your contact info. - You may also enter a group text chat with the other squad leaders and the lieutenant. This will allow a line of communication that isn't overly loud. Position Choosing: - Any person can be a squad leader provided that they have at least 2 members. (In order to join the excel doc) - Skilled players may become a Fireteam Guard if they wish. (Lieutenant's Guard) - Any person can be a Platoon Leader, lieutenant, if they have control over 2 squads. - Any person can be a soldier, squad leader will recruit you. (Not based on skill or level) There will be a manual made for squad leaders and lieutenants if enough people join. Below there will be a excel document layout of how the Platoons, squads, and fireteams will be organized. Contact Info: PSN: Btappin Skype: brandonmarhal

The Ultimate Free-to-play MMO Game PlanetSide 2 Hello Gamers, After playing this game for a week, I can already say it is hands-down the best free-to-play MMO first-person shooter on PS4. The Pros: -You can battle with squads and use teamwork to capture objectives. -The progression system is balanced allowing players to unlock new vehicles and weapons as they rank up. -The game feels more than fair and I haven't spent a single cent on it. -The ground vehicle controls are excellent (Once you change them in settings). -The battles are very intense. -The graphics look great with a frame-rate of around 25-60fps and a resolution of 1080p. -The scale of these battles are massive! -It's free. -Battlefield 4 is more of a pay-to-win then this game will ever be. The Cons: -The squad and friends system need a bit of work. When friends are online they don't show up on the friends menu. This can end up making things difficult because then I had to personally invite them by name to my squad. -The flight controls are bad and need to be reworked; the controls make dogfighting one of the worst experiences in the game. -When servers are full the game starts lagging extensively, but this rarely happens. -Some servers have a massive unequal balance of players on factions, such as on the Palos server: New Conglomerate: 43% Vs Tehran Republic: 33% Vs Vanu Sovereignty: 24%. (This happens frequently). -The interface is not polished and has some glitches; such as: XP not showing, repairing function has glitches, etc. Anything anyone else want to add? My PSN: Btappin if you'd like to squad up.

Hello everyone, new member here. The reason I have created this thread is because I am having trouble with Planet side 2, Sorry if this is not where I'm meant to post this. Anyways, everytime I try and play planet side 2 I log in the launch pad, Select my character and then wait for the tutorial to load, it crashes at 99% opens firefox and says Error G9 I have done what the support suggested which was re install the game, that did not work. I verified entegrity of game cache, that made me download 10gb of things, did not work. I validated game assets, everything is clear. I sent a support ticket and did as they suggested which was something in the cmd, did not work. Is there anything left I can do to fix it?

So I've been playing Planetside 2 for a little while now and I've only just been recently experiencing this issue. When I'm playing Ps2 my screen will sometimes go black and freeze and I'll get a notification on my desktop that says my Nvidia driver had stopped working and recovered. It's getting kind of annoying as it happens 2 to 3 times every time I play and sometimes doesn't recover. Can you offer any help/advice? Here's my parts list: http://pcpartpicker.com/b/M7S

So I recently got a crossfire setup of 7870. And I was playing planetside 2 with msi afterburner and noticing that my GPU 2 is off so now, my question is Does planetside 2 support Crossfire/Sli? If so, why ain't mine working? And yes crossfire is enabled as it works with all the games i have played so far except planetside 2 as my GPU2 remains off when launched.

hey everyone, not sure if this violates any forum rules, so please tell me if it does... Planetside 2 is a free to play MMOFPS, think battlefield, but FREE, and with triple the people in a battle there are three waring factions, the Vanu Sovereignty (all hail vanu!), the Terran Republic and the New Conglomerate, and basically. you join a faction, and go to a battle (which are persistent so none of the waiting between rounds garbage) and kill the bad guys with bullets, rockets, lazers, hot orbs of plasma, tank shells, c4, bombs, grenades, more bullets, and occasionally your knife. if anyone is interested, i play as VS on the Connery server, my ingame ID is LordTumnas1 (or less frequently as NC on the same server as LordTumnas), send me a '/tell' , and a '/friend add' and ill give you a hand https://recruit.soe.com/recruit/smlanding.action?iId=B2MVIKMO2DGT5HTT2QLC&gamecode=PS2 that link is a great way to get started, with a new LMG for your heavy assault, and a 24 hour EXP boost (which you can activate at any time) if any skeptics out there are wondering why im giving the link to the free stuff, if people who sign up through that link make an in-game transaction, i get free stuff (so everyone wins YAY) just a word of warning before you play, it doesnt like low end systems, or high end for that matter, but an optimisation patch is in the works (being released in like a week)

I suppose I should start with where I began having problems. I'm sorry if I'm not being clear enough, some things are forgotten when you're up all night researching what a computer problem might be. -History- First, this motherboard was always suspect the moment I installed it. I don't remember specifics, but getting things working were a pain with it. This PSU is 5 years old now, and it's been suspect along with the motherboard as the source of my issues since the acquisition of the MOBO. Problems began after I tried to put in my older OCZ SSD while maintaining my Kingston as the main HD to boot from. I connected the SSD along with the appropriate power cable to the PSU and SATA cable to the SSD. Past experience told me it'd boot up fine as a second drive, while booting off the Kingston. When it was connected, I booted up the computer and, unfortunately, I forgot what went wrong, but something did. I believe the computer would shut down suddenly, either during boot or after logging in and using the PC for some amount of time. I unplugged it and began looking up what the problem might be. I read I should try updating my BIOS so I did so with LiveUpdate, and it appeared to go horribly wrong to me. I would try to boot up the computer and it would BSOD. I later found out the BIOS reset made it so the SSD went into IDE instead of AHCI mode and that was what was causing the problem - but that was only after having cleared CMOS and reinstalling the BIOS many times. (Just thinking about it brings me feelings of relief again). -Recent History- I put the second SSD in again and it continued to give me problems - shutting down during what appeared to be times I was trying to read/write to the (second) drive. Sometimes, the PC simply didn't start up; when the MOBO had no reason for accessing the drive other than to confirm it's presence. What ended up fixing this, at least for now, is that I pushed in a PSU cable because it appeared not to be secure enough. After making sure all cables were snug, it booted up no problem and I could do basic tasks without problems as well. It's strange to me that problems arose with the SSD being added, as this computer had a history of running quite stable with an SSD and HDD installed simultaneously only 2-3 months ago. (Only difference being the HDD, all other hardware the same [except for monitor]) -TL;DR- Now problems arose again only after I tried to play PlanetSide 2. It wasn't even during the loading screen or in the game's "waiting room" (warp gate) where people walk around - but only when I went into where the action was - shooting, tanks, explosions, etc. I could play around there for about 20 seconds before my computer just shuts itself off. I don't know now whether or not it's: 1) Overheating 2) Faulty MOBO 3) Failing PSU 4) Bad SSD 5) Poor BIOS support for two SSDs (I have the second to latest BIOS) My PC Specs: COOLMAX CUG-700B 700W ATX12V v2.3 (8/13/2008) OCZ Agility 3 AGT3-25SAT3-120G 2.5" 120GB SATA III MLC Internal Solid State Drive (SSD) (8/27/2012) EVGA 01G-P3-1556-KR GeForce GTX 550 Ti (Fermi) FPB 1GB 192-bit GDDR5 (8/27/2012) MSI 990FXA-GD65V2 AM3+ AMD 990FX SATA 6Gb/s USB 3.0 ATX AMD Motherboard (8/21/2012) AMD FX-8120 Zambezi 3.1GHz Socket AM3+ 125W Eight-Core Desktop Processor (8/21/2012) Kingston SSDNow V300 Series SV300S37A/120G 2.5" 120GB SATA III Internal Solid State Drive (SSD) (8/28/2013) CORSAIR Vengeance 16GB (4 x 4GB) 240-Pin DDR3 SDRAM DDR3 1600 (PC3 12800) (8/21/2012) AeroCool ExtremEngine 3T - BBA Black SECC 0.6mm ATX Mid Tower Computer Case (8/13/2008) ASUS DRW-24B1ST/BLK/B/AS Black SATA 24X DVD Burner (8/27/2012) Any ideas or help would would be appreciated.
