Budget (including currency): No budget future plan so cheaper will make me get it faster.. Country: Norway Games, programs or workloads that it will be used for: Plex, game servers (Minecraft, atlas, eco, rust, space engineers, unturned....), nextcloud, unify controller, uptime site, maybe steam cache. Other details (existing parts lists, whether any peripherals are needed, what you're upgrading from, when you're going to buy, what resolution and refresh rate you want to play at, etc): the main reasons for upgrading are that I need more space and the server is pretty loud so trying to find something that's more quiet. also my current system cant transcode anything (unless it's 1080 to 1080 for max 2 streams) due to no GPU. My current setup: ProLiant DL360 G7 Os: xcp-ng (vm then truenas) (info: didn't know what I would end up using so that's why I have 2 os while I only need 1) Ram: 64GB (4x16GB) 2RX4 PC3-10600R CPU: 2 x Intel Xeon X5650 Storage: 1,6TB (600gb*4 in raid 5) Maybe a new setup: I watched the "I built this computer for Mark Rober", and started with this: Motherboard: ROMED8-2T (https://www.asrockrack.com/general/productdetail.asp?Model=ROMED8-2T#Specifications) CPU: AMD EPYC 7302P (or something like) Case, ram, CPU fan, and storage: (https://www.komplett.no/wishlist/shared/423bc95e-3188-498c-9287-aebcd8689037) I already have one of these, but I can't find any information if the motherboard supports PCI bifurcation, if not is there one alike I could use?: https://www.asus.com/no/motherboards-components/motherboards/accessories/hyper-m-2-x16-card-v2/ I also need a Psu and maybe a GPU for transcoding, but how much do I need? I want this setup to be future-proof... so Imma start with 3 disks and add more as needed

So, here's a question. Can you daisy chain your mobile hotspots? By that I mean, can you use a phone as a mobile hotspot, then have another phone connect to that? This should get around the issue of only having one phone line plan but wishing to use both Android and iPhone. This is the real and practical question which begs both practical answers about overhead, legality, etc. etc. etc. ....now...the silly question comes to mind, how insane can you take this? Because, presumably, you could get a phone to chain that setup along from one phone to another to another to [turtles all the way down]. If I remember correctly, the software will try to stop you, but that's not a hardware limit and should be hackable around. Do you get drop off due to overhead? What's the latency issues at play? Even better, maybe you can set a record by trying to find out? Just an idea.

Budget (including currency): RM 6500 Country: Malaysia Games, programs or workloads that it will be used for: Mostly AAA titles, Coding( C# and SQL ), surfing the web too obviously lmao Other details (existing parts lists, whether any peripherals are needed, what you're upgrading from, when you're going to buy, what resolution and refresh rate you want to play at, etc): Currently have a GPU already, but I'll put it it into the list too for reference. I wanna know your thoughts on the list, still tad new to PC building. Even though after looking thru Noctua sites and seeing that the cooler is compatible with the RAM and casing, I'm still unsure about the clearance considering I've been seeing some peeps having trouble with it. Defo need your input on it whether it is compatible with the RAM and that it fits in the case. Thanks Also, I'm aware that this thread is similar to an older one I posted a few months back but things happened and was never able to build that so I'm back again with this one. Hi all, I sold my old PC before moving and am now looking to build a new one. Right now I'm just researching and planning out what sort of thing I'm looking for and aim to take advantage of some black Friday deals in November to actually buy and build it (I know I'm a little early on the planning) . A mid-range mATX build is what I'm going for to match a similar performance to my old PC. I've listed the suggested info and my current parts list & left a link to PC part picker if you prefer. I feel like I've hit a good spot but wanted to check in here to see if anyone has any suggestions about things I haven't thought about or better ways of doing something? 1. Budget & Location I'm based in the UK hence my budget is in GBP at £1300 (~$1500 USD) I'm not really looking to go much above this price but if it's worth it I'm happy to (I'm just using the money from my old PC sale) 2. Aim Uses The aim for this PC is an all around decent home computer with some gaming potential and some future upgrade paths which I've listed after the uses. The three primary uses I've got for it are: My new job has a work from home aspect and so the PC needs to be able to do all the generic "office" type work (Microsoft Suite, Adobe, Emails, other light software programs) I like to program (primarily web) in my spare time and so it should be able to run well with VSCode, A bunch of tabs, local databases, local servers, Figma etc. While I have slowed down gaming I still enjoy it. I don't play AAA titles often, my main games are Overwatch, Civilization 6, Dont Starve Together and I enjoy similar games in those categories, i.e. FPS, Strategy type games, and so some more may be played in future. Note: I often have YouTube or video of some sort playing while I work, program, or game. Upgrade Path Thoughts While putting together this list, I thought about the future and if I wanted to upgrade this build, or upgrade to a whole new platform (AM5 or Intels new offering). I would want to keep as much from this build as I could. The three components I thought most appropriate to spend a little more on now that would still be good in a future build are: CPU cooler - I chose a well reviewed CPU cooler that should be able to cool any CPU I have for the next period of time no problem. Power Supplly - I chose a slightly more powerful supply than I would necessarily need for this build for some head room in future. Storage Drive - I just went with a well reviewed M.2 NVME drive that should be able to handle storage and fit any board I buy for a while. 3. Monitors At the start I will be going with a single 16:9 monitor that is 144Hz and 1440p (I'm tempted by 4K but not sure the current config could hold games at 144 fps at 4K - it's also much more expensive). In the a few months I will be looking getting a second identical monitor (so it looks nice) 4. Peripherals The budget should ideally also include: A MATX case that had good front airflow. A WiFi/Bluetooth adapter (unless the motherboard has it inbuilt - which it doesn't so as of now) The only other major component I still need to buy for this setup is the monitor. I have a budgeted separately for this. 5. Why are you upgrading? Not upgrading, just replacing one that was too expensive to ship. 6. Budget: 750€ Country: Latvia I'm going to use this pc build for gaming only for games like Beam NG, COD, RDR2, War Thunder and GTAV. I'm hopping to play games at 1080p 60fps+ at max or high settings for most games. I am planning to get these parts in a span of 3 months, starting in 2023. I want to know if I can make this build any better for the price or maybe make it cheaper if it can. Thanks. https://pcpartpicker.com/list/ZdXgcb

new pc (Partially) New PC for ~800€, help needed :)
JackCandem posted a topic in New Builds and Planning
Hey guys, I am planning on buying a new PC soon so I thought I might ask you for your thoughts: 1. Budget & Location Germany -> max 800€ 2. Aim Gaming (League/MMOs (Revelation Online)/CIV/DeusEX... so a bit of everything I'd say) on my main screen while most of the time watching a movie on my second screen. Other then that mostly web browsing and "light office work". 3. Monitors 2 Monitors: Main one runs at 1920 x 1080 and the second one runs at 1680 x 1050 - tho i will most likely buy a new screen (with 1920 x 1080 resolution as well) the month after and move main -> second, second -> trash I would not say I plan on using more then two. 4. Peripherals No. I mean I want to, but there is no need for it so I might wait a month or two, as I got a nice working peripherals this will be a "novelty purchase" later on. 5. Why are you upgrading? My current pc is from 2012 (Alienware Aurora), and slowly falling appart ^^. I only installed an SSD and switched the graphic card 2 years ago (or so) to a MSI GeForce GTX970 as the old one was dying but well now the rest of the PC seems to follow and I dont think that it is unreasonable to buy a new one now.... Current Idea: https://de.pcpartpicker.com/list/VQKTVY About this List: The RAM was choosen at random as the one I planned on originally was DDR3 I have a hard time deciding which Motherboard I want, and am never really happy with any choice I made...so please explain me why I should choose XY Motherboard I will use my GTX970 - I will most likly upgrade in a month or two, but for now I want to stay this way and not spend a single cent on a new one. I have a 250GB SSD that is a year or two old that I will use Please explain why you'd advise me to rather buy "xy" PSU/CPU/ etc. I never did overclocking but would like to experiment some day, thats why I chose a "K" CPU and a Motherboard that supports overclocking Thank you for all your help! -
Hi Guys, I did a bit of research and found the following combination of parts for my white and black build. It Should feature 1080p gaming capabilities (somehow near 75 fps to fully utilize freesync monitor) and a bit of multitasking (multiple chrome tabs, ssh programs open. and large excel sheets for data analysis). Not really in the image production business but would help if i can do light photoshop (pretty much a beginner) and inkscape. I know Ryzen is near and I will most likely wait a bit more to see if I need to change the build or if the price of this build would lower. Anyways, this should be the current plan. A z270 was chosen for the white looks and possibility to upgrade to a K cpu in the future. Also similar white non-z mobo are priced similarly so i chose this for the extra features it has (such as overclocking). What do you guys think ? any suggestion or modifications I should consider. Hey guys, Just planning out my new network. Note I have 1 ISP and only 1 WAN. There is a correction to the diagram, I meant to put in an un-managed switch in between the Modem and the two routers. What I want to do is have a manual failover router that can take over from the pfSense if something goes wrong on the pfSense. The DrayTek Vigor 2925 would stay turned off until needed. I know I still have single points of failure in the network. I want a setup like this as I am not at my house a lot and I manage it remotely. If something was to go wrong with the pfSense router, to get the network back up, it would need to be as simple as turning off the pfSense and turning on the DrayTek Vigor 2925 router (as my dad wouldn't know how to fix pfSense). Also just a quick question, if anyone knows anything about the DrayTek Vigor 2860 dual band router, is there a way to use it JUST as a Wireless point? Or would I just be better off setting up a pfSense VM on my server and have that as failover? Also if I was to setup a pfSense failover, if a bad config was configured on the main router, would that be copied over the the failover immediately, as that would defeat the point. Many Thanks ps at the bottom, after the managed switch, that goes into the internal network

Howdy folks, As the title says, this is the parts I plan on getting for my new build, which will also be my first, so I thought I'd see what your thoughts on it are. I'm planning to build my first Desktop PC. I'm gonna use this PC for some games and software development. My main game is Pro Evolution Soccer 2017. I also play Kingdom of Amalur, Prototype 2, and Shadow of Mordor. On the software development side, I develop Android application and sometimes backend stuff like Django or Node.js. My budget is about US$800. I already make a plan for all the components. CPU: Intel Core i3-7100 .............................................................................US$ 109 MB: MSI B250I Pro ....................................................................................US$ 135 RAM: Corsair DDR4 Vengeance LPX PC21000 2x8GB.............................US$ 131 Graphic Card: MSI GeForce GTX 1050 Ti AERO ITX 4G OC (Mini ITX)....US$ 168 SSD: Samsung SSD 850 EVO M.2 250GB ............................................... US$ 101 HDD: WDC BLUE 2TB ...............................................................................US$ 75 PSU: Antec VP Series 500W (I'm not sure about this one...)..................... US$ 33 I already bought a monitor, Samsung 24" curved 1080p. I might have 2 monitors in the future. May be a 4K monitor. Definitely need Windows 10 for PES 2017... (it's not supported in another platform) I already have a Mini ITX casing (I get it from a friend for free). What do you think of those components? Are they good? Especially on the PSU. Do you think it's OK? Do I need to have a look on the Graphic Card whether they fit the Mini ITX or all Graphic Card will fit? I also consider Pentium G4560... But I'm afraid it'll disappoint... Thanks in advance.

So I really love streaming, it's an amazing way to meet some cool people and share what you love. Only problem is I don't really have the optimum setup for it. My current PC is great but just a taddd... jet engine like. It's served me well, however I always groan at the loud noise when i'm recording, embarrassed of the poor audio quality, though it's all I have. I am also getting more and more into 3d game development and my 980ti is fine for this as right now I haven't delved too far into the world of vr creation or anything of that sort. Anyways, what I want is a silent workstation PC built from my current rig. Here is the basics of what I have now: A i76700k on a 280mm liquid cooler, and a EVGA 980ti Hybrid. It's pretty noisy. So I want to make it quieter while not completely breaking the budget, at least not right now. Heres my current plan: - Swap the case for a Fractal Define S with no window side panel. - Swap the cooler for a Noctua NH-D15 - (In the future switch to a workstation wx7100 card and a ryzen 1700-1800x) My main concerns is how to set the system up for optimum cooling while being silent as possible. I'm looking for help from any fellow workstation users or fractal s owners. My original Idea (and i'll try to illustrate this as best as possible), is to have the nh-d15 facing downwards with both fans going vertically, then having the exhaust in the back pulling air. I don't know if this is really a good setup but I heard from another forum it worked well. Problem is I own some very tall ram, 32gb of it, which I would prefer not to just throw away. It's Corsair Dominator Platinum. I heard even with the heatsinks removed they are still rather large. Any help with that? Would mounting the cooler vertically leave any room? The other thing is my 980ti hybrid, should I mount it's cooler in front? I don't know if there would be much room with it in the back exhaust for the cooler. Thanks for any help anyone can give.

So I'm planning on doing my first PC build. I haven't done this kind of thing before so apologies if I seem a little slow to understand things. If anyone sees a problem with my plan/ anything missing/ has any recommendations I'd be very grateful. First things first I'm living in Ireland and my budget is 600-800 euro/ 635-847 USD/ 858-1145 CAD. My goal with the build for now is a single monitor setup that can play all modern games well but I'm not looking to break and benchmark records. I'd also be interested in the HTC vive and maybe 2 monitors in the future but the rig need not be fully for that now, just capable of taking some upgrades if needed. My proposed build is as follows: Motherboard: Gigabyte 990x- Gaming SLI Crossfire CPU: AMD FX-8350 4.2GHz 8 Core RAM: 8GB Corsair Vengeance LP 1600Mhz DDR3 * Note these three come as a bundle from Amazon.co.uk GPU: MSI Nvidia GeForce GTX 1060 3GB OC (Amazon.co.uk seem to have plenty of variants of this but from what I can see this seems good) PSU: Cooler Master B500 V2- 500W (Komplett.ie) Case: BitFenis Neos Tower (Widely open to suggestions here) SSD: Sandisk SSD Plus 240gb Sata 3 2.5inch Peripherals and OS: I am able to source these so I am not including these in my budget. I would be looking to get a good setup when I can however so good value suggestions for these would be accepted. Thanks to all!

Hi all, Info per guidelines: 1. Thinking future upgrade budget $300-$400 if multiple parts, if just GPU, around $300 in USA 2. Purposes = gaming and website work, general non-intensive tasks 3. Currently one 1400x900 monitor and sometimes a 720p tv too, I would like to run 2 actual monitors (one 1400x900 and one 1920x1080) when I get a 1080p monitor eventually 4. Peripherals already purchased for original build 5. Thought Process: My hope was that this build would last a few years. It is still 90% fine. I was very annoyed/disappointed with the AMD 16.xx drivers. 15.x came on the disc w/ the GPU, and that worked mostly fine, but then I upgraded to 16.x and experienced crashes and glitches, so I rolled back and 15.x was better. After skipping a few 16.x releases, it seems AMD mostly fixed the problems causing the crashes, so I am on the latest drivers now. I don't think I NEED to upgrade hardware now. What I want to know is about how long my current hardware should last for playing about 1 new AAA title per year with as many max settings as possible. Framerate is less important to me, anything between 50-60 is fine. Now that the new generation of both AMD and NVIDIA GPUs are out, I fear the new titles will be written to leverage those resources and my previous gen 380 will get smoked trying to keep up. How can I optimize my GPU settings in the ASUS Tweak Tool 2 or OverDrive to make it perform the best? I don't care about noise and I think its temps are fine. I tried increasing the power target and gpu clock, and then click apply to save the settings as a custom profile, but it would not actually save and I would switch profiles and go back and everything would be undone. Could someone please link to a guide or explain step-by-step how to OC an ASUS AMD GPU? One time when I tried creating a custom profile, it actually undid everything and all the sliders went down to 0 in the previously included OC mode. All the guides I have found just say, "increase the clock speed by 10 until it becomes unstable, then go down 20 and you're done!" but that doesn't help when none of my settings get saved/applied and the default OC mode gets undone. As you can see in my linked build, I am using micro ATX. It was really hard to shove the ASUS Strix 380 into this case because of the non removable DVD cage. Its length is the problem. Whenever I do upgrade, I am thinking a single fan GPU on something like a 1060 (Maybe 1160 by the time I need it). That seems super tiny and good for a micro ATX build. I am also leaning toward NVIDIA because I am annoyed that AMD drivers caused so many problems and the software is not intuitive. I have included pictures of the settings that I pretty much leave on and have not successfully messed with much. I did toggle frame rate target control on and set it to 60. I don't really understand what the other settings do. The default OC mode gets 104%. I don't know if that is good. I believe I saw some guy in a video get 118%. I think my 600W PSU should give me a lot of headroom right? What can I do to get better than the default OC mode? I built this system in March 2016: http://pcpartpicker.com/list/MbJqbj RIGHT before the new generation of GPUs came out. Had to, I wanted to play Dark Souls 3. I thought it went in this section of the forum because whenever I do need to upgrade the GPU, I figure it could be worth it to upgrade the motherboard. I am on a Skylake i5, so I figure that CPU should last a while. I think 16GB of RAM should last a while. My wifi card has an annoying antenna that is attached to wires that come out of the back. I wonder if the motherboards that have onboard wifi have 1-2ft of wires out of the back too. If not, I might want to get a motherboard with onboard wifi that is much tidier and maybe only has a rigid antenna or 2 that sticks out of the back but can be rotated up or down. I also want one with more fan headers so I can plug in my case fans and I can eliminate one of the PSU cables that I have plugged into my modular PSU that is solely for a molex cable to plug into 1 case fan. The case fan in question is a large (240?mm) with LED. I tried plugging it into a fan splitter, but it would not work.

Source: http://www.tomshardware.com/news/samsung-flash-memory-summit,35180.html Samsung disclosed more details than ever before about V-NAND. The company has formulated the path to 8th generation V-NAND and has ideas on how to take the technology to 10 generations. A number of new manufacturing techniques must be applied, but a detailed discussion of those is beyond the scope of this particular article. For now, let's talk about the goods we'll see over the next year. The biggest news to come out of the new Samsung campus is QLC flash. Samsung's customers set performance and endurance specifications and don't care about the underlying technology as long as those needs are met. Samsung says it can achieve its targets with its first generation QLC (4-bits per cell) V-NAND technology

Hi, So, second time I am asking for advice on my build plan, things have changed. I am looking to buy a new pc to replace my Mac Mini 2011 running bootcamp. The pc must be optimalized for music creation, as a second and third streaming and gaming. I usually play some light games (RL, LOL and Civ V). Tomorrow I am going to order the parts: https://pcpartpicker.com/list/BPzQbj I have to add that I will use the stock cooler, the two 500gb ssd's I port over from the Mac, the ram will be 3000mhz out of the box (great deal in the local shop here) and the PSU is like 50 euro in the same local shop. In total it will cost me a total of 753 euro's. Also, I am a first time builder with a nagging dad who keeps telling me to knock off with this idea and that it is completely going to fail. This doesn't drive me nuts, it makes me want to go and prove him wrong! He was into pc's around the year 2000. So my question, is this build solid and are the parts compatible? Besides me wanting to get a good performance/value pc, I want to proof my dad I can do this! The GPU in question won't change no matter what, only if you can give me an alternative under 200 euro with 2 hdmi ports and a card that is overclockable. There is a big shortage in my country (like everywhere) with all the GPU's except the 1050 ti's. This card tickes every box and has the best value in my country. Thanks in advance!
