  1. Hi! I'm in need of guidance and help here... In high-school we have to do something by the end of the May to graduate, so I chose to build a custom PC that is powerful and esthetical. The PC components are: i7-6700k 4.0Ghz ASRock Z270 Extreme 4 Nvidia Geforce GTX 1060 6GB Super Jetstream G.Skill Trident Z RGB 16GB (2x8) 3200MHz Samsung EVO 850 SSD 500GB SATA III Corsair Hydro H80i V2 (CPU heatsink) Chieftec ATX 2.3 ECO 700W In Win 303WHITE ATX Mid-Tower My goal is to analyze the performance of the built PC and give it a rating, but here is the problem. I don't know how to analyze PC, run tests or overclock (I intend to overclock to write more about the topic in my essay). I would be more than grateful if anyone could guide me and explain how to fully analyze PC, run tests on CPU or GPU, optimize voltages and temperatures. I promise to credit anyone who will truly help!^^ Thank you in advance!
  2. I wanted to undervolt my CPU to 1.180V but I forgot using the dot (.) and the motherboard set it to 1700mV and I didn't see it before pressing F10. When I rebooted, a message warning the high voltages and temperatures appeared. When I entered the setup, the CPU was @ 87ºC and 1700mV. Immediately pulled the plug, waited 30 seconds and cleared the CMOS. Everything went back to stock. More than 2 hours using the PC, no BSOD, no Freezing, no nothing. Am I ok? 945 points @ cinebench.
  3. I have been wondering for a while why Linus and others reviewers do not do a GPU Benchmark with the driver's settings performance like in this image. Just to let people know maybe losing some detail might help with the performance I use this with my GTX1070 and have no complaints + it can all so remove some stutter in some games but it is up to the individual to do this. If anyone who reads this give this a try with a lower end GPU it might help some people because before I got a Nvidia GTX 1070 I was using a GTX750ti and these settings helped majorly with games like BF1 - Crysis etc so if anyone does or have there settings like this let us know. The Image
  4. Hi everyone!! I am building my first pc and I am deciding in which motherboard I should buy a Gigabyte Z370-HD3 or a MSI Z370-A pro. I think I will use it with a i58400 or a 88600k so I was also interested in knowing which proccesor should I use.
  5. Ethernet and Metal Conduit/Channel

I am fixing to run three lines of Ethernet to my Living room from my Current switch. I am unable to run the cables inside the walls (Double wide Mobile home FML) so a surface run is my only choice. I am trying to figure out what I should use to hide the wires and make it look nice. I was just wondering if I used a metal conduit or Raceway, Would it impact the performance of the Ethernet cable? Im currently running Unshielded twisted pair.
  6. Hi everyone, im from Costa Rica and I was interested in knowing wich card I should buy. The difference in price in my country in not that big but still it gets out of my budget and if the performance between both cards is very different. I can still pay for that card but I want to know if it is worth the extra 70 bucks, thanks the link of the page im buy my components is this one: http://extremetechcr.com/tienda/18-tarjetas-de-video# price is in Costa Rican currency tho
  7. Hi everyone, I live in a country where PC parts are very expensive, so that's why I haven't got a nice cooler and a GPU yet. The PC is: Asus TUF Z270 Mark 2; HyperX Fury 2x4GB DDR4 2400Mhz CL15 Core i7 7700k running @ 4.2GHZ, since the Turbo Boost is turned off; Corsair CX750M (2015 edition); No GPU / Using the onbard HD630 graphics (Sold my old one); Samsung 850 EVO 1TB SSD; NZXT Phantom 410 Temperatures: Idle: 38ºC to 40ºC (100ºF to 104ºF); "Daily" (Spotify, Chrome, Visual Studio, Netflix, MS Office, Torrent): 40ºC to 57ºC (104ºF to 136ºF); Cinebench 15: 80ºC (177ºF); AIDA64 stability test: thermal throttling, as expected. Vcore around 1.232 and 1.230V; Turbo boost off, so it only goes up to 4.2GHZ. CPU C-States, Speedshift, EPU and all the power saving mode are off. Therefore, of course I'm getting a better cooler before the GPU, not going to play anything even with the onboard GPU. For now, I'm using the PC only for the "Daily" use as mentioned above. And btw, it scored 935 points in Cinebench. What you guys think of the score, giving the current circumstances?
  8. Is my GPU damaged due to overheating?

A few days ago, i was gaming for 6hours straight. When i touched the tempered glass panel, i found it's really hot and when i measure it, it's about 56 celcius. After that day, i found that my gpu ran quite slower and it has more lag and rendering problem. It also causes major screen tearing in all my games, so much that was never there before that day. I'm afraid it overheated because i had a laptop that it's gpu fan broke and it overheated. I brought it was home and game on it but notices the problem stated above; decrease performance, lag, rendering problem and screen tearing that was not there before. Could this be the case that i've lost(or won) the silicon lottery and my gpu isn't tolerant to the heat like it normally do? please help GPU- rx 570 CPU - r5 1600 MOBO - msi b350 pc mate RAM - crucial 2400 8gb powersupply - corsair cx550m
  9. Hello, I'm building a pc for the first time ever and I was hoping to get some tips, feedback, and criticism on the parts I have picked out. I have saved up for over 10 years ever since middle school in the hope of making my own rig. Here is the list: https://pcpartpicker.com/list/TddpZ8 I would love to get any sort of help. I still don''t know much about overclocking or Raid. I also would like to know if I should wait for new better parts on the horizon and push back the build. Anything helps and my final line for the budget is that it should be under $5500 U.S. Also, RGB would be nice
  10. My take on Intel refuse to patch the bug.

I'm super pissed as I'm sure all of the Intel owners are. The last part for my first rig ever is arriving tomorrow, and I already have the 8600k in storage. Does anyone know if the performance loss caused by the patch will ever be fixed, if it even can be fixed?
  11. After doing some research and with the help of some great people we came to the conclusion there are two possible builds that could work for my needs. One Intel build see the link: https://pcpartpicker.com/list/DKQqYr and one AMD build see link: https://pcpartpicker.com/list/zKTCBP But there are still a few things i am not sure about and some second opinions would help a lot At first the AMD build is around 200 dollar cheaper which is great. Mostly because of the reduced price of the CPU and the cheaper motherboard. So i was wondering what causes this price drop for the CPU, and the motherboard? I am mostly confused by the drop in price for the motherboard, because i have no idea why this AMD compatible motherboard is 80 dollars cheaper then that of the Intel version. And since i am not planning on upgrading my rig in the next 2 years would it be more useful to save the 200 in the AMD build and upgrade the CPU and the motherboard in 4-5 years with the saved money + a bit more? And is does AMD work well the Nvidia graphics cards + other components? What would be the best option for the next 5 years, performance and bang for buck and quality of components wise? And if you have a totally different suggestion please don't hesitate to tell
  12. Hey guys! So i was reading about integrated GPUs like those that come generally in laptops but also in desktop APUs, but i didn't get something: From what i've got, it doesn't have it's own VRAM, so it takes what it needs from the PC's available RAM and the max ammount is limited in the motherboard. So if you have let's say 32Gbs of RAM and somehow configures the max ammount to be 32Gbs, can the integrated GPU possibly reach like 10Gbs or more? Does something else like it's clock limit it's performance?
  13. So i recently upgraded from an intel core i5 6600k to an intel core i7 7700k becasue at 1080p 144 hz, the i5 was bottlenecking my 1070. now the bottleneck is gone, im wondering if its worth squeezing a little more performance out of my system by getting a gtx 1080, im torn, part of me thinks its a waste of money and the other part of me thinks its a cool idea (PS. moving to 1440p 144hz is very likely in the near future) thoughts?
  14. So my brother decided to get a computer, but he doesn't want a Desktop because he wants something you can just carry around (Sort of), so i was looking for a Laptop/Notebook for him. The problem is... I don't know what's wrong with these things. I searched in lots of websites and lists, but i just can't find anything decent and cheap. 9/10 Laptops i find are like 4 or 8Gb RAM rigs with [Insert I7 CPU here] without a dedicated GPU. n°1- Why would someone want such a powerful cpu without a decent GPU? That's just straight up dumb imo. What am i supposed to do with it? Browse Google Chrome with 60 fps and feel like a boss? Since i don't have a decent GPU i don't see what benefit i would have in doing anything other than using CPU intensive applications, and that's stretching Anyway, i only found 2 decent Laptops, but what i am thinking of suggesting him to buy is this one: Name: Samsung Expert X23 CPU: Intel Core I5 5200U GPU: GeForce 910M 2GB (DDR3? I only found the 1GB version) RAM: 8Gb OS: Windows 10 SCREEN: 15'6 LED HD STORAGE: 1Tb It costs around 560 U$D. It's pretty cheap and looks cool, but i doubt that... that "GPU" will run any recent games with more than 30 fps... Anyway, i don't have much knowledge of PC hardware so i can't tell and i didn't find anything online, do you guys think it would run games like: GTA V, Fallout 4, Rainbow Six Siege, Far Cry 4 and Need For Speed Rivals? With this info in mind i could easily figure if it meets his requirements for the price ofc. Any help would be appreciated, tnks! In the meanwhile, i am gonna keep looking. There must be something decent out there...
  15. I've been planning to pickup the Acer Predator XB271HU 27" for a while now. Earlier in the year I bought a GTX 1070 ARMOR. What I'm wondering is, will my 1070 have enough juice to drive games like PUBG, Escape From Tarkov and DayZ Standalone at 1440p 60FPS running medium/high settings? Thanks guys. Specs: Processor: Intel Core i7-7700K OCed @ 4.5Ghz Cooler: Corsair H100i GPU: MSI GTX 1070 ARMOR Primary HDD: Seagate barracuda 1TB Secondary HDD: Seagate barracuda 3TB Primary SSD: Kingston HyperX 128GB Secondary SSD: OCZ-ARC100 240GB Motherboard: Gigabyte Z170X-Gaming 3 RAM: 16GB Corsair Vengeance DDR4 2400Mhz Case: Cooler Master Storm Trooper Operating system: Windows 10 Pro 64-bit
  16. I have posted once before about this problem but still have no clear answers about what is going on in my computer. I have a custom build using: After removing some hardware for troubleshooting purposes Motherboard: ASRock extreme 6 CPU : I7-4790K Ram: G.Skill Ripjaw DDR3 GPU: Gigabyte 1070 Cooling: Kraken X97 Watercooler Storage: sandisk SSD PSU: CX 750M 80+ Bronze I noticed that my Laptop using a I7-7700U processor would fluctuate frequency's based on load and temperature, no problems and the laptop runs great. modeling software is a breeze and does exactly what I want it to do. when running my tower, I can tell it is running good but not near on par as my laptop does. *note my laptop is no where near as powerful as the tower is rated for since they are only a year apart in age* when running games, modeling software and other applications I notice that my tower is very sluggish in comparison to the laptop. when running a system monitoring software I noticed that the CPU would not change from 800Mhz. I noticed this in 3 different software's including Task manager, CAM, and the Intel CPU Tweaker Extreme. I then did a performance comparison from mu tower to my laptop and found my laptop ran faster and better than my tower did. once I brought this up to the intel community they told me to use the intel CPU test software to ensure the CPU is performing properly and it told me that there was nothing wrong but any time I run any software the clock never changes and continues to be sluggish. After running countless stress test software's the only one that was able to get my CPU to clock even close to its max clock speed was Aida64. other than that, 0 clock change occurs during standard computer use. in comparison to my laptop the tower appears to be dead. my final step to debugging this issue was to unplug any unnecessary hardware to run the computer to allow it the max power it would need to run in hopes it was a power problem, the issue did not change. performance numbers went up a fractional amount but otherwise was the same. I was told that under everyday use a computer should change frequency's rather often to account for the need on CPU load. and in addition to this, the temperature of the die should change as well. after running stress tests with little hardware, and tried to allow the CPU to go up in temperature, it doesn't budge. the CPU even under Aida64 stress testing does not change its package temperature, and if so it is by a factor of maybe 3 degrees C MAX. I understand I may be arrogant to the workings of my CPU but I don't understand why my laptop out performed my tower by a landslide during the same tests. being this tower is built for performance and heavy work load it is sad to see my laptop beats it. is there anything I am doing wrong that may allow my tower to not run to proper specs or is this normal for a CPU, and if not what can I do to fix this, is there say a hardware problem, missing software or tuning that needs to be done to allow the proper utilization of my CPU?
  17. thrift shop cpu

Hi all, my current workplace is a state facility where i work with young teenagers to get them off the streets. and we have a huge mass of old hardware and other stuff. we currently trying to build a few working computers from the stuff we have. So pls rate these cpu´s i was able to dig out; im currently in a bit of a hurry, thats why i cant do it myself. pls consider the normal specs but you can also include oc performance, but i think the two intel cpus are probably the best overclockers. or link a good cpu comparison site CPUS: Intel Celeron D 336 AMD Athlon X2 4200+ AMD Athlon X2 6000+ AMD Athlon X2 7750 Black Edition Intel Core 2 Duo E8400 Thx for your help
  18. Hello all, After being somewhat disappointed with windows 10 game made, I started looking for solutions that would ACTUALLY make a difference in performance during more "cpu bound" games, and I believe I found one. The solution is to set games as "high" priority in task manager. For those who don't know, setting a program's priority higher will give it more cpu time, resulting in a boost in cpu performance. However there is one major issue with this, priorities in task manager are not saved by windows, once you reboot you have to manually go back into task manager and reset all your priorities. Until today, I found the solution that should be the standard for all PC's. Its a program called "Prio", AND IT ACTUALLY LETS YOU SAVE PROGRAM PRIORITIES!!! (Link: https://www.prnwatch.com/prio/ ) Once you install it here's what to do (I'd recommend rebooting after installing just to avoid any wierd glitches) 1. Open the game you are having performance issues with and minimize it 2. Open task manager 3. Go into the "Processes" tab 4. Right click on the game in the list in the "background processes section" 5. Click on "Go to details" 6. You should now be in the "Details" tab, with the game already highlighted. Just scroll until you see it 7. Hover over "Cpu Priority" and select "High" Make sure "Save priority" is also checked (I attached a pic of what it should look like) 8. Close down task manager and you should be all set to go! I also would suggest doing this to certain background programs that take up CPU time, but instead setting their priority to low so they take up less resources (I set the steam bootstrapper and Razer Synapse to low priority for example) Well, let me know if this made any big difference in games like GTA V. I'm curious of your guy's results. (For the record, my CPU is an i5 4570, if you're rocking a newish i7 you might not see the same improvements I did, but if you're using a 4 core i5 or an i3 then i'd HIGHLY recommend this) That is all, take care!
  19. Hi, i'm looking for some advice here. System: Motherboard: MSI X370 SLI PLUS CPU: Ryzen 7 1700 (Stock cooler) Memory: 20 GB (G. Skill 16gb 3200mhz + Corsair 4gb 2133mhz) GPU: GTX 1060 6gb VBIOS: 7A33v36 OS: Windows 10 x64 (1511.10586)OC noob here. Just build my first system ever. That said, with everything at stock, fresh out of installation, i launched Cinebench test and scored 1536 with 3.0Ghz. Then i finally went to overclocking after watching some videos, reading a little bit, etc. In the first try i changed memory speed to 2400mhz and cpu to 3.5ghz the result was no booting, no bios, no nothing. No choice but to clear cmos, and so i did. After that everything seemed to go back to normal, and i proceeded to overclock, this time only the cpu. And i was able to go 3.5 without messing with the voltage. But unexpectedly my cinebench score was much lower. Now at 3.0Ghz i'm only able to reach 1406. At 3.7Ghz with 1.2375V (stressed in AIDA64 for 3h, 78C max temp), my best score is 1478. Now i'm aware this RAM situation is not the ideal and i have another identical G. Skill stick arriving sometime this week, but as i mentioned, i already had much better scores with the current temporary kit. As for general performance, i haven't had much time to test stuff yet (i plan on video editing, some 3d and gaming), so i can only speak for the last game i played on my previous cpu (i5-6500) - Deus Ex: Mankind divided - and that it is doing a little worse now fps wise. So anyone have any ideas as to what caused the performances to drop like this? Edit: I just remembered that i've only upgraded BIOS version after the first cmos clearing, wich was after the good (1536) Cinebench test. Could this be related? Edit2: Just cleared cmos again, removed the Corsair stick, and without any tweaking, full stock settings i did the test again. It is now even worse than before. (I accidentaly overwritten the 1536 cb test i mentioned before). I monitored 3 tests with CPU-Z and clock speed sustained 3198 speed all the time.
  20. RX 580 4gb vs 8gb?

So I am looking to upgrade to an RX580 from a GTX 750 ti. But I am debating on whether to get an RX580 4gb or 8gb. I know there is only like a 3 % difference in performance between the two, but is the double amount of VRAM worth the extra 50 - 70$? The only reason I say this is because I have a feeling the extra 4GB's could be worth it for future titles, but how many more years could I get out of it for the extra 4GB's?
  21. I am in a bit of a dilema. I need a portable powerfull laptop and I have aroud 1300 dollar budget for it. Asus ROG gl502vm looks like a sweet option at the moment, but I found 2 builds that I like. Both have 128gb m.2 ssds, same RAM, same hdd, same panel display, but... One of them has an i7-7700hq and a GTX1060 6gb The other one has an i7-6700hq and a GTX1070, they are like 50 dollars apart. Wich one would you get and why? Thanks for the help!
  22. Good day, So, when I first built my PC, I didn't consider overclocking, and it was dumb. Because now, my CPU is my main bottleneck in any demanding game (Xcom2, Mass Effect Andromeda, and heavily modded Skyrim being the biggest culprits). I currently have an Intel i5-6500 Skylake chip, and am considering buying a new processor and then selling my old processor. Research indicates I could get at least a decent deal for it. Now, for upgrade options. I'm not quite ready to buy a new motherboard yet (currently running a Gigabyte GA-Z170XP LGA 1151), so I want to know what you all would recommend for the best upgrade option for a chip that would be compatible with my current board. Most of what I do with this PC produces a single-threaded workload, so I would want to focus on that, along with future overclocking. I did pick up a CM Hyper 212 over Black Friday, so I should have better thermals than the stock heatsink. I was thinking of the i7-7700k, but wanted to get the thoughts of this group first. Thanks!
  23. I recently built a computer semi-following a build guide here as well as some professional help from a friend. I wanted to get the best performance I could get while staying toward the middle-high end of the performance spectrum. Even after reinstalling the drivers, reseating all my components, and changing my settings around, I'm having incredible performance drops. My average fps in CS: GO is about 150 fps, with drops into the low 60s (On ultra... lower settings yield worse results.) My max in Battlegrounds on High is about 60 with a 50 average (medium-high settings). I have an 80 average in Fortnite with high settings. I have tried everything, and no matter what I do I can't get it above these. (My frame caps for all these games are much higher than the numbers I'm getting.) One of my friends has an almost identical build to me, yet he gets fantastically higher results. Specs: Win 10 64bit EVGA GTX 1060 6g FTW+ (1632MHz base clock) AMD Ryzen 5 1600x (3.6 GHz clock) Gigabyte AB350-Gaming Motherboard EVGA SuperNOVA 650 G1, 80+ GOLD (650 W) Corsair Vengeance LPX 16g DDR4 (3000 MHz) Cryorig H7 CPU cooler (I just ordered a Coolermaster MasterLiquid 240 AIO) Crucial 1TB MX300 SSD (4TB HDD on the way)
  24. Question about my performance on BF1

Hello, so I have a little question regarding my pc. I'm using BF1 as a reference and I'm wondering what I could expect from my current PC. I would like to play BF1 on medium/high, however currently I'm just getting around 40-60 FPS depending on what's going on, usually it stays around 50-55 FPS which really sucks. I don't really know but I feel like my computer should be able to run it better than it currently is. Thankful for answers! 25. What would you build for $3000-$4000 CAD? Use PC Part Picker and let me know (what I THINK I would build is given below). First off: I have never built a PC before and know very little about the hardware and process involved, however, I am a huge *nerd* and use computers for gaming, creating games, programming, music production, running virtual machines/servers, and many other things. Perhaps use these requirements and preferences as a guideline when building your machine. Requirements Play the most recent and upcoming games at a minimum of 4k 60fps+. Support playing VR games at the best quality possible. Stream games in high quality with minimal sacrifice to the gaming experience (try and maintain 4k 60fps+ as much as possible). Lend itself well to professional music production. Be a quiet machine. Preferences NOT be an RGB LED light show--unless the LEDs can be toggled on/off or the case window can be closed. Have an Intel processor to support running Mac virtual machines. A CPU with 6+ cores. Minimum of 500GB SSD space. Minimum of 4TB HDD space. Minimum of 16GB of RAM. Build 1: Build 2 (mostly updated Build 1):
