Hi there LTT Forum! I'm looking for some help on the easiest way to tackle a work-related task. I work for an event venue and we're trying to build a searchable database of events over 60 years. We have scanned in (most of) the lists that were kept as records from 1959 - 1990, and then from 1990 onward, we have some form of digital / PDF, etc. for the more recent events. They are generally laid out like "XYZ Event - December 1, 2000 - Venue Space", mercifully. What would be the best way to tackle getting all of this into a database entry format? I saw the UPDF ad in WAN last night and started wondering if there was an AI / smarter way to handle this than just going through the lists and typing it out by hand. Looking for recommendations on: 1) How to tackle this issue (what software, etc.) 2) How to store this data (best database solution to share with 20+ employees). Happy to answer any questions, just let me know what you want to know! Thanks, WX

I'm looking for a mobile app that would have support for both PDF thumbnails and SMB shares, and I've been desperately looking for this for the past day or so. I've also posted the same question in other forums with no answers. Basically, I want the thumbnail function that Windows provides, but for Android. Most file explorers can do it with pictures like JPGs and PNGs, or even videos, but I absolutely cannot find anything that does it for PDFs. The absolute closest I could find are Xodo and ReadEra, which are readers, and they both have file preview, but neither of them seem to be compatible with SMB shares. The easiest SMB share connector I've found is Total Commander, but it doesn't have file preview. Alternately, if I could have some way of mounting an SMB drive as a "folder" that an app can then see and use, it could also work. The tablet used is a cheap RCA Android tablet but this doesn't matter as it should be something applicable to any Android device. As of right now, these are all the apps that I've tried: Foxit (no SMB) Google PDF (no thumbs, no SMB) Files by Google (no thumbs, no SMB) ES File (not the real one apparently) (no thumbs, no SMB) Astro (no thumbs) Adobe Reader (no thumbs, no SMB) Xodo (no SMB) EA Essential File Manager (no thumbs) Simple File Manager (no thumbs, no SMB) Easy inc. PDF Viewer (no thumbs, no SMB) ReadEra (no SMB) Perfect Viewer (no thumbs) Librera (all of them) (no SMB) Office (no thumbs, no SMB) X-Plore File (no thumbs) FX File (no thumbs, paid SMB) eBoox (no SMB) Pocketbook (no SMB) Lit Photo EBook (no SMB) Lithium (no SMB)

Hello everyone, I am new to the forum :) My question is: what would be the beast way to compress about 6 TB of pdfs (about 500,000 pdf files)? The main goal is to make an archive of my pdf collection I've been working on for about 10 years. I would like it to take up the least amount of space. That way I can make backups on Mdisks, without using too many disks. Also to use fewer micro SD cards to carry with me. This is the last step of my project. I have used: Filestar to convert nonpdf files to pdf format, and Adobe to compress multiple pdfs at a time. This process is still kind of slow and would probably take about 1-2 years time to do between family and work life. My goal would be to find an automated process or program that could run continuously and conpress pdf files withing files, idealy without having to select each and Would there be anyone who offers a service to do this? Anyone have any ideas what software or methods to use?

Hi, I have a word file in my Google Drive that I make changes to it everyday. I have a website (Google Sites) that I embed it in because Google Docs renders things differently to Word some of the text is not in the right position so i save it in a word as a PDF. It's really annoying, as I said earlier I am making changed everyday so it becomes a hassle. Does anyone have solutions (I use Google Drive Stream so I can access it from my File Explorer?)

It acts just like a normal ghost file only no method of deleting a normal ghost file works. Adobe acrobat says "There was an error while opening this document. The path does not exist", just like you would imagine a it would say for a normal ghost file. My guess for the origin of the error is a file name too long for windows, my dad downloaded the file off of a insurance website and the file name is 251 characters long, even though a quick google says the max character length is 260, so i might be wrong about my theory. Anyways, I can't rename, delete or move the file, if i try to edit and shorten it to a .txt file it says "The file name you specified is invalid or too long. Specify a different file name.". After like two hours of researching and trying different solutions, I did not manage to fix it. I hope you can help.

I would like some advice/suggestions on how i can edit PDFs on my phone. I'm on android and so far the apps I've come across either don't work or require some sort of subscription plan. The workaround I've found for the time being is using my laptop> use Libreoffice> edit and save as ODF> Convert back to PDF> send it back to my phone. Its a hassle especially since i don't carry my laptop around with me. Does anyone have any suggestions for an app-based method to edit and save PDFs?

My wife and I have mostly chatted long-distance on Messenger for most of our relationship (6 years and counting), and it'd be a hard blow if we lost any of the contents by some freak of nature (i.e. Facebook going out of business, however unlikely that is). Is there a piece of software or a method I could use to back everything up in say, a PDF format? I've looked at the Decipher Download tool, but I just want to make sure there's no other method floating out there before I drop $20 on mystery software. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks a lot!

I need a program for editing PDF documents. Free, open-source and native Linux support would be ideal but paid ( not subscription ) on Windows with Wine compatibility would also be Ok. Thanks if there’s still a question please ask

I am currently archiving and sorting old files. I often have files twice, one in PDF format, one in Word format (.docx). It is the result of writing a document in word, but sharing it later on via E-Mail and creating a PDF version for that. I won´t be editing nearly any of the documents, so is there any benefit in keeping the Word Version?

Afternoon all, I've got a 1114 page PDF that is a mixture of parts diagrams and text. I'm trying to extract the information but when I try and import the data through excel it kills my ram 32GB DDR4 3200mhz. Is there a way to discard the pages with pictures on without going through them one by one? Or is there a program I can use that is better than importing from excel? TIA

Hey guys, it cant be that difficult, i am simply an idiot. Somehow google doesnt provide the answers i want, so i gotta ask the hivemind. what i am looking for is a simple pdf reader that stands out in two regards. 1) its not annoying. This disqualifies adobe pdf reader, as the massive option bar is always open when i open the program. 2) automatically overwrites the old pdf version once i hit ctrl + s. This also disqualifies adobe, as that always opens the "save as" path. f that. i used the old edge browser because of those two reasons for the longest time. It obviously sucked as a browser, but it worked wonders in just not pissing me off. Sadly, with the update to the chromium based edge everything sucks there as well. cant just hit ctrl + s anymore and also....the fucking table of content is gone...i checked the edge associated forums and...welp...they just forgot to implement it. Not just does the browser no longer have a distinct window on the left to show you the chapters, it also excludes the chapters from the actual text. so there is simply no access to the table of content. needless to say that i require another program that is capable of not pissing me off (a hard task, i am aware) Would love if you could recommend sth for me. The 2) is more important to me than most things as my daily job is going through papers and highlighting them. Greetings An angry dude with a reasonable hate towards pdf readers

Hi friends, I'm having a quite frustrating F**KING time trying to accomplish this ONE SIMPLE F**KING task. So I apologize in advance if I come off rude, disrespectful, or aggressive. All I want to do is send a PDF file to Print, with specific settings (Just setting the Page Orientation to Landscape, Using the Java Print API) I've followed dozens of tutorials, copied test code line for line just to see if I myself was missing something AND NONE OF THE CRAP ONLINE IS WORKING. I'm just trying to get a test program to freaking work so I can use the code in a later project I have planned. So if someone can provide me a test program, with in-line comments that spell everything out cause apparently I'm stupid as all hell, that would be nice. The project I have planned will also be using Apache PDFBox, and I already know the Java Print API (javax.print) will be involved. If it wasn't already obvious, the lanuage I'm using it Java. Any and all help is sincerely Appreciated.

Adobe Reader DC making me cry inside because if something isn't working then I won't sleep. We have pushed out a few policies for Office, Chrome and Adobe which all work. Only to find that Adobe doesn't provide a policy to disable the 'Hello to easy file access' on first startup (surprise surprise).... Now, administrative templates from adobe will get rid of the splash screen and such, although this next screen needs to go.... Although many students won't be using PDF's (year 3 to 6), I want to provide a 'zero' touch experience for a first user logon (or even a user that decides to use PDF following months to come)... I've found that deleting the AcroApp and FTDialog Subkeys in the HKCU brings back this screen after going through this process, but adding these subkeys (with a dummy key inside) doesn't do the trick. I would think that the computer policy 'Show messages when I launch reader' set to disabled would handle this issue but no it doesn't... I've also got an issue on the Windows 10 laptops where I needed to apply a custom xml for file associations to stop 'Set Adobe DC for default PDF....' because of the 'zero' touch experience. Although this method doesn't work for first logon users since it only applies when relogon unless I change the OEMDefault....xml in system32 which doesn't seem necessary. Has anyone had to deal with this problem, or do you not use wet dog pdf reader like this one?...... Edit: (IGNORE) Also tried HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Policies\Adobe\Acrobat Reader\DC\FeatureLockDown with key bToggleFTE set to 1 (dword) and no luck... EDIT2: Okay so, it seems adding bToggleFTE to HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Policies\Adobe\Acrobat Reader\DC\FeatureLockDown does work but not on all laptops (gpupdate /force twice) so I will report in a few hours if this solves my issue.

Hello fellas, I'm looking for a website / software which would allow me to edit HTML documents in a way that I can drag & drop input fields and check boxes on specific locations without having to actually go and mess with the CSS by hand. My goal is to convert PDF documents into HTML (currently using this website https://www.idrsolutions.com/online-pdf-to-html5-converter which only gets the visual part done, no function tho), add the input fields & boxes (would be more awesome if converter did that. but so far haven't found anything decent) so that I can read the user input data & save it into SQL database / or make it accessible for use via JS / PHP. If you guys have any suggestions, please share! I'd appreciate it! Thanks in advance!

Good day all. Hope I place the post where it belongs. We are a small business hoping to get rid of paper. We have tons of invoices, receipts, BOLs and other documents. I tried searching online but I just got "standard" looking scanners. I wanted help into choosing an scanner that will help us in our goal of going digital; and not losing more invoices (warranties) Scanner requirements: Scan bulk quantities of documents Produce searchable PDF (indexing) Be able to place on tray different paper sizes (may be) Network capable (maybe wireless) Efficiency or speed should not be an issue, but something reliable regarding stuck papers. Thanks

Greetings. I need a free program with which I can edit PDF files, and extract pages. I have a digital copy of a songbook, but I need to extract just 2 out of about 300 pages to mail to my band. I also need to attach two scanned images and a letter to an existing PDF document- essentially combining the files. Adobe Reader doesn't do any of this, and I don't want to use online tools like PDFsplit. I'd be extremely grateful for any recommendations you have. Should I just start the free trial for Adobe Acrobat DC? Regards, Aereldor.
