A colleague recently moved into a house that appears to have been owned by an IT enthusiast or professional. We are trying to figure out how the internet setup is meant to work...it's not at the moment. From what we can see, the external internet connection: Goes into the home and straight to a patch panel (we don't know which of the 24 ports it goes to) then to a 24-port CISCO SR224 Switch from the switch back to the patch panel then to the modem router in the home office (we have worked out that 8 on the patch panel goes to the modem) The issue is that we can't figure out which number on the patch panel is the internet connection, and even when they are all plugged into the switch, the modem doesn't get a connection. Welcoming any ideas, suggestions or solutions! Thanks in advance!

Finally BF4 gets massive balance patch. Now I have covered most of this in my earlier post http://linustechtips.com/main/topic/108970-my-thoughts-on-battlefield-4-jan-30th-and-upcoming-patches/ won't comment on same things. There are several things in this patch that I have opinion and I hadn't commented on last time, so here goes. This is only my opinion. I'll quote changes and give my thoughts on them. You can check whole thing in here http://battlelog.battlefield.com/bf4/forum/threadview/2955065226155386316/ General fixes The most important things. Wait, what? Into what, I ask... Sounds fun. Was there problem....? You can "rapid fire" shells without it being problem. But I've seen few times tanks with too fast firing. And when you don't have it, its annoying. Minor things but welcome ones. Last one particularly. I hate when firing half of clip into someone and they seems to survive without hits. This sounds interesting. I like the part where you push boats back to water. No more waiting squadmate to do so with another boat. If only they would fix that same thing on tanks and apcs. Spectator mode I don't use this feature much and so won't paste anything. Overall there is some good and imo some not so good changes. Since spectating is mostly used for casting matches I feel that DICE has focused more towards general pubbers with these changes. Grenade balances I didn't cover these before and there isn't much to cover. Just this: For now minis have been almost better than M67. Huge change. Makes Metro fun again. Or more fun than it was. Or not. Pistols Last time I didn't have anything to say on these. Now I have something. Good thing. I use QSZ-92 atm and I like it. Its like M9 of BF4 with current M9 being shadow of BF3 version. For weapon and vehicle changes check my post on PC Gaming section (link at beginning).

I have a media panel installed in my house which allows me to plug my devices into the wall outlets and have the outputs available behind the TV so no cables are visible. Essentially all cables are patched through the wall. Everything works well except the HDMI cable when running HDR. My TV goes blank when my media device switches to HDR. If I plug the HDMI cable from the TV directly into the media device (bypassing the patch lead in the wall) there is no issue. Is there an incompatibility between the HDMI cable patched through the wall and HDMI cable I am plugging into the outlet? I don't know what HDMI standard cable has been used in the wall because I did not install it. Is there incompatibility between HDMI cable standards when patching? Or could it be something else entirely?

How can I completely uninstall the spectre/meltdown patch? Running old i3 CPU on a gateway computer, can't upgrade to ivy bridge since they don't offer a bios update. I've been using InSpectre to disable/enable the patches and I've found large performance differences in benchmarks. Wondering if there's a way to completely uninstall these patches, also is there an option to disable/uninstall these patches on android? I don't really care about the security tbh. Heard it's mostly been mitigated in web browsers anyways and I'm relatively conscious in what I use

With new laptops coming out this summer, and AMD making its way into the market share; is anyone gonna recommend Intel? I have been hearing about performance hits from patching their security issues; but can't get a good sense of how big of a hit. If anyone can chime in on this, I would greatly appreciate it. For further context, I just heard about the ASUS ROG Zephyrus Duo 15...and really liking what I'm seeing. That said, it looks to be sporting 10th gen intel with no word about an AMD option.

Hey Folks, I live back in India and we are currently experiencing a fiber boom of ridiculous proportions (1 Gigabit Internet with 2TB of Data cap post which I'll get 10mbps Unlimited for around $70 ). I am getting a Fiber to the Building connection. The internet guys do offer the ability to run Fiber to the Home if I bear the cost of the Customer Premise equipment. Since I already have a router with an SFP port its not much really for me. The problem is the people installing these crazy internet connections have no idea on what Optical Fiber Cable they use, or what connector they use. I being a mechanical engineer have no idea either. They tell me that they can terminate a new Fiber connector at my rooftop cable entry point of my apartment. But I have to patch the male connector from Female and run it to my Network equipment wherein a wall port where the wire will be terminated into a wall port. I have to do this all without knowing if it is a multimode or a single mode fiber, and what type of connector it uses. Kindly let me know if there is a standard in fiber cabling to the home. If so what connector it uses, and if it is duplex or simplex. If there is no standard in FTTH connections kindly let me know on what exact details I need to know before purchasing the Optical Fiber Cable and wiring it to my room including what Female and Male Patch Connectors it uses. ( Pictures welcome ) Thank you all in advance

ok i may be behind the times but i only found this patch yesterday. KB4497165: Intel microcode updates Apparently it's optional and it's now version 4 i just did a few simple benchmarks to resolve to myself the performance hit to my i7-4790k and actually i didn't even see the 4790k mentioned in the patch details... (although every other Haswell was mentioned, e.g. 4770k) but i installed it anyways and here are the results: (see attached image) Keep in mind i only ran these tests once. i also have the latest BIOS for cpu microcode on Win10 1909 Before “windows10.0-kb4497165-v4-x64” - fresh reboot Score 1908 Using “InSpectre.exe” to disable Spectre & Meltdown - reboot Score 1930 Renabled “InSpectre.exe” to enable Spectre & Meltdown Then Installed “windows10.0-kb4497165-v4-x64”- reboot Score 1946 Whatever this means is up to you, but i'm happy enough not to disable any patch for performance reasons. It's called V4 and Microsoft recommends re-installing it

An add on my Facebook feed featured this patch "thing". I used the search function on the forum, and it has not been talked about - yet. Anyone who have tried it out? They had av video dating back to 2015 on YT, so its not a new item. Their shop in link below. They had 35cm and 60cm versions. https://patchbox.com/shop

Sources: Engadget 9 to 5 Mac Inkstone News Media: Quotes/Excerpts: My thoughts: We are now on how many bugs caused by entering text or receiving a text message on iOS devices within the past 3 years? Three? Five? Everything from unicode to links within a message. Perhaps we should stop trying to be proactive with the contents of a text message and instead just display it to the user?

As title says, Intel has given up on mitigating spectre variant 2 after having multiple issues making a functional microcode updates, as well as seeing low customers demand for such patches. Note spectre variant 2 only affects older chips: The newest chips that are on the list that I can make out are the 1000 series core series. If you have a sandy bridge processor or newer, this vulnerability does not affect you. This leaves the "Intel core", "Penryn", and "Nehalem" architectures vulnerable. These architectures are all 10+ years old but nonetheless I still think it's reckless to not even try to secure them. Im sure there are plenty of ATM's, School PC's, and other critical systems running these chips. That being said, anybody still running these chips likely are running Windows XP or Windows 7, so it's not like they were secure anyways. I still believe these should be patched, and even if not for practical reasons. It's important to foster an environment of zero tolerance for security flaws in a company, as well as proving to your customers you stand behind your products. Source: http://www.zdnet.com/article/intel-we-now-wont-ever-patch-spectre-variant-2-flaw-in-these-chips/ this was written on mobile when extremely sleep deprived so if I missed anything let me know

Hello So I have a Galaxy S7 Edge from ATT. I got it unlocked and switched my service over to T-Mobile. The phone does still have the ATT firmware on it. What is the easiest way, if there is one, to patch it to T-Mobile? Thanks in advance

Hi, Just being searching for a fix for the capped frame rate in LA Noire. So far I've read about some sketchy 3rd party software compared to just editing a config.ini file. Anyone found a safe and legit fix for this issue? Cheers. PC SPECS: CPU: i7 4770k GPU: 980ti RAM: 8GB

Hey guys, So here's the deal. I fell into the lead position of the IT people at my student union (Living in the Netherlands. I could explain if you wanted to know). Anywho.... Our network is seriously dilapidated. We have wires going everywhere through a building so old I can't actually get to them because it's literally a monument. as far as I remember it's all connected to our custom linux server through an old (like 1980s OLD) HP 'SmartPatch' If I recall correctly. Here's where you come in, I need advice. and some serious advice at that. The Smart Patch is dying, the fans in it broke years ago and I am not sure it'll survive the summer. I need to know if any of you know what kind of gear would be best suited for the kind of stuff I am using. If I should keep the cables I have (Some of them go to parts of the building I can't get to anymore), Or if I should just find out what cables I still use and patch those back into a new system all together. I really don't know what's the best approach. I'd be happy to get more details for you guys if anyone is serious about helping me out. Thanks guys!

Hey, I wanna ask if somebody can help me. When we have LAN parties it's often in locations that doesn't have the best internet for many users, so I wanna make a server which poeple can download game patches for CSGO and LoL from. How hard would this be, and how? My guess would be redirecting the request to the server, but if this is possible, how? Many thanks for the help, Oliver!

Hey guys, I'm not sure how many people this has happened to, but I thought that I would just ask about it wherever I can to potentially help as many people as possible. For about 1 month now, I have been unable to successfully install the latest GTA V patches for PC. The download (approx. 460MB) encounters problems every time it finishes. After the patch finishes, it enables me to play on story mode, but not online since I don't have the latest patch. I've tried reinstalling about 6 times now, using some of the common solutions like running with administrator privileges and such, but with no success. If anyone has encountered this issue, even on other games, please post any possible solutions. Thanks guys!

I'll get an hour or so into the Star Citizen patching process, and it will stop and give a big red error message saying, "SOURCE FILE WAS CORRUPTED" with the options to Retry or Re-download All Patches. And I don't mean this has happened once or twice, I'm talking like four times out of my last 5-6 attempts to patch the client. Today, it has happened twice during the same patching attempt. Is this a known issue? Is anyone else seeing similar behavior?
