  1. In many of the games I play and on any system I try it on(wired and wireless connections), I get random lag spikes over 999ms. I've run packet loss tests and usually find 0% losses. I have also tested a spare router and the same issue occurred. Any idea what this problem is/ how I would diagnose if it's on my end or the ISP's?
  2. So I ordered myself a new CyberPowerPC (nothing super high end) for some casual gaming and for the most part, its been fine other than the INSAINE packet loss ive been getting since day one. What is odd about my case, is that ill have unplayable lag for a time, but on some "good days" Ill have very little noticeable packetloss. I essentially have to pray that my computer will let me play for that day without sending my ingame character 15 feet backwards every 3 seconds. This Packetloss doesn't just occur while in games, but using discord for instance, sending messages will take a significant amount of time one moment but will be quick and snappy some other times. I also don't think its based off of how many people are using the network, as the Packetloss seems to be entirely random. Also another thing to note is that my old Intel computer never had this sort of issue. Weird. I went in and used Ping Plotter, and of course see red bars to almost every IP Address. Im not quite sure what to make of it, other than there is packet loss.. Ill provide a screenshot below (Not sure of the IP addresses should be shown to the public, but if they are ill list them off.) VVV These bars are always changing, sometimes theres only one bar, sometimes theres other addresses with PL and sometimes like this its absolute mayhem. VVV
  3. Hello, some minutes ago i was playing a game and i started to get a lot of micro disconnects, i thoght it was the game but i used the command "ping -t 8.8.8.8 and it jumps normally with low ping like 10 times for example and then it shows like "Waiting time exceed for this request" around 3 times, then continues to jump normally then repeats. I was going to show a screenshot but i used the command again and it doesn't seems to be happening still but i'll do the post anyway, i don't know if this will happen again. Hope you could understand what happened, that's it, thank you in again
  4. Hello, im about to give up trying to solve my problem. So I am having this stutter problem in Call of Duty vanguard where it pops up with packet burst. The same thing in Halo Infinite pops up "unstable Packet loss". I have Gigabit internet, with a new modem (even tried using my 5g hotspot on my phone and still got the packet burst sign). My latency is low, when i have the packet loss counter on it shows zero. I have done everything software wise under the sun. Fresh windows install and bios updates. I have gone as far as switching out motherboard and cpu from amd to intel. I have borrowed my friends gtx 1070 graphics card and it still does it. I have an nvme and i got a second ssd and loaded games on that. I have tried almost everything everything. Only two things i havent done is pulled out my 4 8gb of ram and changed the psu. Here are my specs EVGA rtx 3060 MSI Z590 Pro wifi motherboard - previous was a b550 aorus pro I7 11700K - previous was ryzen 5 3600xt Cooler Master 750 watt PSU Seagate 520 500gb nvme SK Hynix 500gb SSD 4 sticks 8gb ddr4 corsair vengeance pro ram cooler master water cooler
  5. Ok so this is a weird one. I've been searching for a solution for over 2 weeks now and I'm stumped. **Forgot to add that the upload is almost totally normal, basically no dropping. This is only happening to my download speed somehow** I have a 300mbps shaw line and I'm connected via WiFi (I can't hardwire it). Normally, using my MSI B450 Carbon AC's built in Wi-Fi adapter, I see around 80-100mbps stable. Lately I've been having an issue where I'll randomly drop a ton of packets or the speed will slow down to a crawl (<100kbps). This issue comes and goes randomly, as well as the duration. Sometimes its 10 seconds, sometimes its an hour. I used to have the same problem on my old gigabyte WiFi card, which went away when I swapped to the new motherboard about 2 years ago, difference is I didn't drop packets before. I've tried the following: Cmd prompt ipconfig release/renew/flushdns/registerdns and netsh winsock reset (internet usually returns to normal temporarily, then the problem comes back) Completely uninstalled and re-installed all relevant drivers (No effect) Forgot the network, restart, connect again. (Sometimes fixes it temporarily, sometimes not) Used a VPN in case the ISP was throttling me for torrenting (No effect) Changed adapter settings including power management (No effect) Used the windows troubleshooter (lol) Restarted the router (Didn't notice anything) Entered my own IP address, added it to the router, then pinged googles servers (I didnt do well in my college networking course, this didnt work at all) Hardwired into a mesh device (maybe helped slightly, but probably just placebo) Cannot factory reset the router, but I did restart it via loging into it (Fixed it temporarily, but not for more than 2 minutes) I have a solid connection, always 3-4 bars stable and I'm using 5G. Thanks in advance, and yes I made this account to ask this question but I've been lurking for years.
  6. Hey everyone, im asking for your help after a lot of unsuccsesful troubleshooting. I am struggling with high percentages of packetloss, up to 60%, that make playing games and having conversations on discord an annoyance. In games i get ping spikes as high as 1000ms and conversations are being cut up into bits. This only happens on this single device and only over wired connection, how i came to that conclusion follows. What ive tried and found until now: When i first noticed the issue i suspected my ISP and therefore took no action, waiting for the problem to solve itself. Sadly it did not. So i went on to replace my rather worn and old network cable with a high quality one - No difference. This is where i begann to test all the devices in my network chain, i was able to rule out my router and my switch by using other devices with the identical connection. Certain that the problem must be originating from my PC itself i wondered if the network port might be damaged, after buying a PCIE Network Card i can also rule that out. Updating my BIOS to the newest available Version and letting windows search for new Network Drivers also didnt work. I do not experience any Packetloss over my WIFI Connection on the same PC, which is what i am using now. My conclusion after all of this is that it could be a Software Issue or damage to the Motherboard at some place between Network Port and Chip, but i am honestly at the end of my wits with this one. If any of you have any advice for me i would be thankful, Regards Sven My Specs: OS: Windows 11 21H2 MB: AsRock Z390 Extreme 4 BIOS: Z39EX44.30 CPU: i9 9900KF GPU: RX 5700 XT That Network Card: EDUP PCIE Gigabit Network Adapter
  7. I wanted to attach the video file but it's too big, so here you can see the tweet: Hopefully it's not a problem to attach, you don't have to click off the site - just simply look at the video. You can even see the stats at the bottom right for 0% packet loss, my ping, etc etc. Computer Specs: RAM: 32GB 3200MHz GPU: GTX 1080 CPU: I9-9900k
  8. For the last week or so, I have been experiencing ping spikes once a minute, across every device I've tested it on (over wifi). This hasn't always been happening, and I used to get stable ping 99% of the time. I tested this by pinging google.com to make sure. I also tried pinging my router (although I'm not sure if it was done right) and the spikes seemed to be unrelated. Not sure what is causing these spikes and how I could fix it, but they have gotten very annoying.
  9. Hello Guys and Girls!, Recently i just built a new PC and it worked perfect for 3 hours before i left it turned on to install games, and then when i came back i started having extreme packetloss and unstable internet connection when i try to play online games such as Apex Legends. PUGB etc. It should be noted that i could play the games before i left my pc turned on. When i download games i have a great connection (Upwards of 270 mb/s) but then when i start the game i dont get over 1 mb/s and the internet goes away and comes back every so often. Is it a setting that has changed or an issue with my motherboard, ethernet cable or anything else? Is there a way to prioritise my internet connection for gaming? Everyone else in my family has a stable connection but mine is a bit poo poo. When i idle my pc the internet also has random spikes. (look at picture that follows). These spikes go away when i download games then they reappear. I will also show the graph from when i download games and when i play them. 1st picture is idle 2nd picture is when downloading games 3rd is when playing games as you can see my internet goes from 200 mb/s when downloading a game to under 100 kb/s when trying to play it. I have tried to find a solution through google and other forums but i havent found an answer to my problem so i hope you can help me :). PS. English is not my first language so there might be typos
  10. We have the attached network diagram The mobile browser (TCP receiver) wants to download a webpage from a server hosting example.com Packet loss can only happen when the queue on the Wi-Fi router overflows (> 100 packets). The link speeds are in Mega bits per second, where 1 Mbps = 1,000,000 bits per second. Also, assume that the Wi-Fi router adds no hop delay or queuing delay (no matter the queue size). We consider the size of each data packet to be 1,500 bytes. Furthermore, assume that each packet can carry 1,500 bytes of TCP payload. For example, the sender would need 2 packets to transmit a webpage of 3 KB (3,000 bytes) to the receiver. The sender uses the following slow start mechanism which proceeds in time intervals of the RTT: (i) In the first RTT interval, the sender’s initial cwnd is equal to 2 packets. The sender bursts these 2 packets and receives corresponding 2 ACKs from the receiver. (ii) For each subsequent RTT interval, the sender increases the cwnd by 1 packet for every ACK it receives during the previous RTT interval. (iii) The receiver always sends 1 ACK for each packet received from the sender. This means that, the sender would effectively double its cwnd in each subsequent RTT interval. (iv) The sender would exit the slow start and switch to congestion avoidance if/when it detects the first packet loss. Can someone please help me understand in which RTT will the queue in the WiFi router start building up (queue size greater than 0)? In RTT #1, the sender sends 2 packets and receives 2 ACKs. Further, In which RTT will the first packet drop occur at the WiFi router?
  11. I want to ask if anyone had knowledge with how to track packetloss between a PC and the modem/router or even to a game client, in this case specific to League of legends. So we are 4 guys, all using ethernet cable playing LoL together, at random times one or more "disconnects" (we can still see everything happening, taking damage, teammates getting taken out, but we cant do any action ourselves). Just like we can receive packets, but we cant send them to the server or game client how ever that works. We only see this problem in LoL, we play a dusin other games without any issues. Our connection is fiber, 1000/1000. Router and switches can handle 1G, same as all PC's we have. If needed I can gather the specs for each PC. But what I want to check next is if packet loss occurs when the issue pops up, and why is it only some of us and only in that game. Also got mentioned too many devices sending data, could lead to this. Anyone can confirm or deny this? Or give more details? Any ideas? I'm ready to investigate, cause this is turning me crazy.
  12. Hi, I dunno what to do I have been getting lag spikes in every game I play on my pc I have wired connection and my internet is fine. I have tried multiple troubleshooting guides and videos online tinkering with settings in my Ethernet config and even in my CMD with no result. I have attached a picture of a ping plotter app as I believe the problem to be with packet loss but I don’t know what it really means. any help would be great as I’m pulling my hair out trying to find the solution.
  13. hey so i have recently gotten my first desktop and i go to play some games and bam! the games are super laggy and damn near impossible to play so i go onto speedtest.net and check my ping and speeds and i have all around great numbers, so i turn on the latency tracker in game and i will go from 32ms to 1000+ms, this is consistent across all games and i even did some things in command prompt to see packet loss and i get 100% drop rate. I use a wired connection and am baffled at what to do next, any ideas? (i know this video is super low quality but here are some examples of the lag https://youtu.be/5aWR84FF1S4 )
  14. I'm getting really frustrated with this issue. I have been doing some googling, but I think I need more help in actually troubleshooting/narrowing down my issue here... Let me explain. I had a USB WiFi adapter fail on me a few months back and decided, while I was getting a new one, to splurge a bit and get a PCIe adapter instead of a USB one. I figured I might be able to get better and more consistent speeds out of it. It seemed to work fine for a few months until I was suddenly getting a TON of lag spikes and packet loss in online games (I noticed it particularly in Apex). I originally thought it was my ISP because coincedentally they were having network issues that were affecting customers with the modem HW ver I had. I had a sibling in another apartment down the road experienceing drops in connection at the same time as me, etc. SO there was definitely an issue there. Cool, cool. Got a new modem and figured it out, time to game. Yet the issue remained. No more drops in connection, but the lag spikes and packet loss remained. I just happened to plug in ethernet to see if that affected anything and voila... No more lag spikes/packetloss. So I figured maybe the card I had got had died on me it's relatively close to my GPU in my case, and I game pretty often. Maybe it had abunch of hot air blown on it and it got a bit cooked. It was a cheap TPlink card. Fast forward a bit, I have been running a long Ethernet cable all across my living room and saving up for a new PCIe card. Finally, I had saved up some more money and got myself a slightly more expensive "Gigabyte GC-Wbax200" and figured this would solve my issue. Install it, and now I have been tinkering with windows settings and scouring Google all day. I cant figure this out. The same ping spikes and packet loss seems to be there. So it must not have been the card before... But my problem is not having any experience with PCIe cards, and not having much experience in troubleshooting network issues (I have been lucky enough to not really have them until now). What should be my first step? I have been pinging an IP in cmd with "-t" (for example "ping 8.8.8.8 -t") and watching the time while I tinker with vcarious settings. Nothing has affected it. The time to make a trip jumps every few seconds (5 or so?) from 23ms to 600+ms . It's driving me insane. Most of the help threads I find on google have similar posts of "try turning off power management" or "I fixed by reinstalling windows" (which I am trying to avoid) if there are any solutions at all... Here's a shot from my cmd: The only thing I can think of (and I don't really know much, so this could be crazy) is since it's PCIe... could my GPU be throttling it and taking too much PCIe bandwidth? Streaming videos and stuff online (for the most part) seems fine. I only REALLY notice it while gaming (when the GPU would be most active). Edit: More info I have just discovered... My apartment complex has 2 modems/routers in it... Our complex buys in bulk from Spectrum and includes it in our lease. It's a slower speed than I would like though and so I opt to pay more monthly (on top of whats included in my rent) for a second line at a higher speed. This is what I have been using and getting these issues with ping on. Just on a hunch I tried connecting to the other modem/router and now, while pinging 8.8.8.8 in CMD I am getting no spikes. The modems are directly next to each other, so I don't think its a location thing... But somehow it might be related to the modem?
  15. Hi there, I am trying to play League of Legends with my roommate, but am having insanely unstable ping and high ping spikes (200+). My ping is all over the place and fluctuates all the time. For periods of time it is stable, but then seemingly at random this behaviour starts again. The strange thing is that this happens on both my laptops, but not on my roommate's Macbook. His ping is perfectly stable at around 12, spare the occasional ping spike that stays below 50. We live in an anti-squat building and have to game on wifi. Running an ethernet cable is impossible since the router is located in another person's room. If I had to, I could try an 'internet over power' solution, but I don't know if that would work since the building is quite large and old. League runs fine on any other network (both via wifi and ethernet), and so does my internet connectivity in general as far as I have noticed. I ran PingPlotter on the League server and I have included the data in the attachments. As far as I can tell there is some packet loss and spikes in latency at the first hop. Also, I have no clue wtf is going on at hop 3. Things I have tried so far: - Closing all other applications while gaming - Factory resetting both laptops - Reinstalling League of Legends - Buying a wifi extender and connecting via its ethernet port (thought my wifi chip was broken for a while and it seemed fixed using this solution, but now things are f**cked again) - Making sure power settings are set to maximum performance for League of Legends - Making sure League of Legends is added to firewall exceptions - Running League of Legends' "Hextech Repair Tool" - Rolling back to older network drivers for laptop #1 Any help as to what the hell is going on would be greatly appreciated!! Edit: I forgot to mention that sometimes I have a friend over and the 3 of us play League. He also has a Windows machine and has never experienced ping issues. Laptop #1: 4700MQ, 765m, 16GB Ram, Windows 10 64bit (1903 I think) Laptop #2: 8130u, integrated graphics, Windows 10 64bit (1903) Roommate's laptop: Macbook Pro 13" (2018, touchbar) 104.160.141.3.csv 104.160.141.3.pp2
  16. Will using a seperate modem on my network lead to more or less packet loss? Provided that both the router and modem are of the same performance.
  17. When i open my cmd to ping anything with varying bytes of data i always get the message: Request timed out. I tracked the packages and get a 100% loss every time. help? -Thanks
  18. Hey boys and gals, So, got Bf1 a few days back (holy **** ) and everything was quite normal, both mp and sp (with the exception of my gpu going nuts, but was an one-time thing), but yesterday I stumbled into a HUUUGE issue with Multiplayer. While in-game on ANY server, I get extreme packet loss. Every 5-10 seconds the red packet loss icon shows up on my screen and after a few seconds I rubber-band back where I was (rejack much?). This has been happening since three days, and basically renders mp unplayable. I would be glad if some of you lads help me out. Cheers! P.S. Yes, I did already post this in Pc gaming, but didn't get much help there
  19. OK so last week i posted in my ISP specific forum to look for a solution but nobody even responded so i'm still looking for help here is my original post: here are some of the results from testing to try and find the problem: if you know of any better ways to test for problems it would be much appreciated if you share, at the moment i can't play any online games without pain
  20. Hi guys, For the past couple of days I've noticed small amounts of packet loss within Teamspeak and Dota 2 ( around 4%) which I just ignored thinking it was just the servers. However to this day I am still receiving packet loss on my network. My packet loss (measured with teamspeak) wavers between 8% and 50% with both in and out traffic being affected. So I've tried using both on my Ethernet ports and my WiFi with the same results; I have uninstalled and reinstalled all drivers which also hasn't helped. I have tried resetting my router multiple times with the longest being 10 minutes and this still hasn't helped. I have also tested my internet on my phone which also results in around 11% packet loss and I'm officially out of ideas. I believe that my router may be on it's way out (it is 3+ years old) however I'm not an expert in this field. System specs: i7-6700K / GTX 970 / Gigabyte Z170N-WiFi Router: ZyXel P-2812HNU-F1 Thanks in advance!
  21. Ok, recently I've been having lots of problems with my internet. For starters i dont know much about all this, im just trying to gather all the help and information i can to fix this. Im having 20-50% packet loss and is almost constant. Im a gamer so i play a lot, i try to compete in tournaments but my internet has stopped me from doing so. Ive changed DNS, reset both my router and modem more than once, updated firmware on both, changed and tried different ethernet cables but the problem is still there. I also checked my bufferbloat and it goes through the roof. Im talking about 1000ms+ bufferbloat, I pinged my ip between pc and router and it says i have 0 packet loss so im lost, i dont know what else to do. Im going to call ISP and get a tech in to see if theres any bad cables or anything because this problem is getting into me and cant play or even watch anything without lagging or stopping. Modem: CM700 DOCSIS 3.0 Router: Netgear R6700 Nighthawk AC1750 I have 150mbps down and 10 upload speeds. If you guys can suggest anything else ill be more than glad to hear.
  22. Hi! I've recently upgraded to a new computer, with a fresh install of windows, and I have severe packet loss on the new system for no reason that I can find or fix. I am using a WiFi connection, however this is due to living at university and not having the option to plug into Ethernet in my student accommodation. It also mean's I don't have the ability to change any of the settings for the router. I've tried running through every recommended change to help alleviate packet loss that I can find online, no to avail. This includes changing the default packet size in windows to the max packet size of my router so there are no packets lost due to size cap, which is rarely a problem anyway, but I wanted to try everything I could find. Interestingly enough, my old computer, which I have switched back to for now while I try to get this resolved, works perfectly and has zero packet loss. Latency and up/down speed aren't an issue on either machine, both perform perfectly in that regard. The specifications of the two machines are as follows (If it's relevant): Old: CPU - Core i7 4770 GPU - MSI Ventus RTX 2070 8GB OC RAM - 4x 4GB DDR3 1600MHz MB - Gigabyte H87-D3H NIC - Intel Dual Band Wireless-AC 7260 Windows 10 Pro 64 Bit New: CPU - Ryzen 5 3600X GPU - MSI Duke RTX 2080 8GB OC RAM - 2x 16GB DDR4 3200MHz MB - MSI B540I Gaming Plus AC NIC - Intel Dual Band Wireless-AC 3168 Windows 10 Pro 64 Bit Let me know if anything else is relevant... I am almost totally sure that the fact that it is WiFi isn't the problem, as both computers are within 5m of the router, and both are utilizing the 5GHz band which according to a WiFi analyzer I used, is clear and uncongested. The only difference in performance network wise is the packet loss. I can't gauge exactly the severity of it, however I do know that it is consistent and doesn't falter. It is bad enough to the point where any video game that requires an online connection is unplayable. Also, running the ping command via the command prompt for a long period of time shows about 20% of the packets are lost. Massive thanks in advance for any help or advice. :)
  23. Hey all. Recently I've noticed the lovely yellow triangle has been bestowed upon my internet connection on my desktop at my apt. I've tried the usual. Unplug the ethernet cable and plug it back in, swap cables, etc. The apparatus in my room is a 4 port dock which, with which I've reset countless times and tried each port on. I've run all the cmd prompts usually associated with my problem to no avail. I just reset my machine with a new install of windows and that didn't even work. I'm at my wits end with this crap and I'm looking for some help. I'll copy and paste my ipconfig /all notes and such below. Thanks if you can help!
  24. Alright Boys. I got a project that I've spent months trying to fix, but the problem is only getting works. For the past 6 months i have experienced disconnects ranging from every 2 hours to just recently every 2 minutes. Not an exaggeration. This is occurring on my Crosshair VI Asus 1080 16 GB RGB Gaming Monster and my tiny Xbox One. I have gotten a new router, i was on an R0007p and now i have an AC3200. The change prevented me from getting kicked for about a day, now i'm back to disconnects. I've gotten DCed when i was the only device on our WIFI, I've called my ISP and they state everything is good on their end. I've called Linksys/Netgear, and they say that its my ISP (Yeah). I've done that cmd prompt packet loss test and everything looked normal. I don't know guys. I bought a longer Ethernet cable that's arriving tomorrow to hook up directly to the modem (I Barely reach the Router with my cable). I need help. Please brainstorm with me.
