Hello first time posting and need of help. My PC crashed (BDOS) a couple of days ago from too much heat while gaming (poor airflow because of dust), realized its been a minute since I cleaned inside so took the opportunity to dust it off and replace the thermal paste from both the gpu and cpu. After cleaning everything I putted all components back in its place. Because of my smaller form factor case, I have to remove the RAM sticks to have more space for my hands to screw the nut for the cpu cooler, I don’t tight it too much because I had problems not posting before because of board bend. Insert all 4 sticks properly making sure it clicks and turn on the PC, Red DRAM_Led lights up, constant red no blinking. Press and try the MemOk! Button a few times and no post. What I know so far: All 4 Ram sticks are working, PC was working fine with all 4 DIMM slots populated. DIMM_A1 and A2(2 closest to cpu socket) are working, DIMM_B1 and B2 (2 farthest from cpu socket) to gives me the red led. PC posts with A1 and A2 populated, booted to windows and task manager show the correct total amount of Memory. Tried this with and without the GPU works fine. Not a problem with bent pins, reseating or dust in the CPU socket since I can boot it up with 2 Ram sticks Not a problem with the PSU or not enough energy since it was working before, but for curiosity sake I checked multiple power supply calculators, all of them gave me around 480w at peak usage, with a Corsair CX550W 80+ Bronze I don’t see that as the issue. Motherboard is old so no RMA for me. Here’s what I tried so far (all tests were done with both the working and not working DIMM slots, individually and combining the slots): Checked all 4 RAM sticks individually. All are working properly. Checked all 4 DIMM slots individually with each stick.DIMM A1 and A2 gave me post and booted to windows, DIMM B1 and B2 gave me red Dram_led. Reseted both BIOS Jumpers and changed the Battery Read on another forum, a guy just kept pressing the MemOk! button and after 15-20 tries it posted, Tried that with all 4 slots populated and the dual channels but gave me nothing. Reseated both 24 and 8-pin connector on the mobo, no result. Have not tried reseating the cpu, but since it post it and booted with A1 and A2 I don’t think thats the problem. Loosened the nuts from the cpu cooler a bit to not bend the motherboard. Tested without the GPU and with the SSDs and HDDs unplugged so all the power its for the CPU, Cooler/Fans and Ram. Nothing. I did not used a anti-static wrist-band so i understand the possibility of static discharge, cleaned my computer a bunch of times so maybe finally got unlucky and killed the DIMM slots even if I didn't touched directly. I can work with 16GB instead of 32(not having dual channel hurts tho) but I would prefer having all slots populated. If you guys know any other solution that I can try I’m all ears, otherwise I’ll have to accept that the slots are dead. Thank you for your help. Apologies this will be long winded, 2 pcs both with dead boards 90%+ certain First pc (life line to everything), cpu: i5 3750 (?) motherboard: asus p8z77 premium ram: 16gb (4xdimm) 1600 corsair psu: (was bequiet modular 1000w - fried) now evga 750w modular gpu: amd radeon 7850 2gb x 2 (crossfire) System was custom built by myself roughly 7 years ago, has run perfectly being on mostly 24/7. Last week I came back to it after 10 minutes to find no display, case led showed power but there was a very obvious electrical buzzing from case, most likely psu. I initially tried a reset, same thing, tried once more then powered off. Left it awhile, came back tried to power on, nothing at all, no power, no fans, no beeps, no lefds, absolutely nothing. Immediate thoughts are dead psu. Second time I tried to power it flipped the circuit breaker immediately. There was no electrical burning smell or obvious signs of damage other than the electrical buzzing which ceased prior as above. Everything was connected to a surge protector which had no obvious damage and was still powering other devices without issue. Ordered new psu which arrived few days later. Inspected inside case abit closer and could see no obvious signs of damage, not to psu or board, no blown capacitors etc.. Removed old psu, tested with paper clip method, no response. Tested new psu prior to installing, fan powered on fine. Installed new psu, still nothing, absolutely nothing. Removed ine component at a time retesting each time, nothing all the way down to just psu and board. So dead board? It occurred to me afterwards I hadnt actually even heard the new psu fan come on despite testing prior. Removed new psu, retested, nothing.. so now im thinking has this coincidentally died or suffered damage due to faulty board also? Retested old psu (on its own) it blew straight away so fairly adamant that was initial or atleast part of problem. So now im at a slight loss as i havent delved into pc hardware building or repairs since marriage/kids. Assumed new psu wasnt actually dead and maybe wasnt firing because it needed something extra to get it going. Reinstalled to board and fans, still nothing. Reset cmos, nothing, hard reset cmos, nothing, replaced cmos battery, nothing. Assuming board is totally dead along with old psu, new psu still question mark. At this point I dont have the resources to do any further testing. Purchased a cheap compatible system, primrarily to get me up and running, I was considering doing a full in restore of old to new but had a few worries especially as to source(s) Of damage and not wanting to blow another system. Also heavily concerned with data loss as I stupidly did not have a full backup but kept private file backup in a HDD attached to same sytem (i know stupid but life hasnt thrown me many bones lately to contend with it appropriately. New system had a gigabyte z77 board, so i tested old system ram, gpus and ssd/hdd All appeared to be fine except one of the gpu which was emitting a static display when connected (hdmi) havent tried dvi but second test was black screen. Not the end of the world but something too look into later. Now my big issue is with ssd(s). I had 4 plus an msata in old system, one was OS samsung 850 256gb which is my only data concern. 2 x samsung 850 in raid 0 (?) which was just software games (not too worried). Wont go into too much detail and will probably do separate post in appropriate forum but basically concern, after alot of research is how to get old system back up amd running due to constraints with moving ssds into new system. From what Incan gather my best bet is replacing dead motherboard with the same one or similar to bypass driver concerns and hope it just picks up off where it left assuming theres no deeper damage to ssd. Ssds are detected in new system but deemed unallocated, i dont want to initialise or do anything that could cause damage or wipe data. Ok, if you got his far, thanks, ive been pulling my hair out and really losing it so far. So my queries; 1) What else could I do to establish what the overall damage to old system is? Especialy to the board, its bugging me as theres no obvious signs of damage. Would it be worth buying/replacing bios chip? Is it worth taking the board itself. To someone to see if it can be repaired? Whilst the obvious answer is probably no, my next dofficulty is replacing this board. Its damn near impossible to find and comes with a ridiculous cost and only overseas. 2) Replacing the board with similar? In view of attemtping to revive existing system this appears to be my next best move? How similar do boards have to be for there to be a decent chance of this working assuming the ssd / os isnt buggered? Theres plenty of variations of asus p8z77 im just unsure on what my limitations would be and how varied, if at all bios and drivers would be. 3) would any old z77 socket 1155 board carry just the same chance? I understand that i could sily pre-load board drivers during resetup but my concern and lack of knowledge around ssd issues prevents me going forward here. Ultimately what is my best option of reviving my system? i will leave other pc for now as this isnoverwhelming, thank you Edit: 4) i havent tested old cpu in new system, if cpu was faulty could this cause damage to new system (hence why i havent tried)?

So I've ordered the following components from amazon: Motherboard: http://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B007KZQE7Q?psc=1&redirect=true&ref_=oh_aui_detailpage_o05_s00 Case: http://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B00HVVGVZE?psc=1&redirect=true&ref_=oh_aui_detailpage_o04_s00 4x HDD: http://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B008JJLW4M?psc=1&redirect=true&ref_=oh_aui_detailpage_o00_s01 2x SSD: http://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B007R67FTY?psc=1&redirect=true&ref_=oh_aui_detailpage_o00_s01 SSD's will be in RAID 1 on the Sata 3 ports on the motherboard for the OS boot partition. Will be running Windows Server 2012 R2 Standard. The 4 HDD will be running in RAID 10 on the Sata 2 ports on the motherboard for mass storage/backups etc... My questions are: 1) Is it possible to hot swap the SSD's in and out; in the event that one fails. 2) Is it possible to hot swap the HDD's in and out; again in the event that one of them fails? My only previous experience with hot swapping drives has been in pre-built Dell OEM servers at work, never built one from scratch before. Thanks!

Hi everyone, I'm looking to downsize my computer to an itx form factor, and was looking at picking up the Asus P8Z77-I Deluxe motherboard while it's on clearance sale. My question is how good is the Realtek ALC898 audio codec and general audio quality when compared to a lower end Xonar card (sub $90) and to my current onboard audio on an MSI Z77A-G45 (Realtek ALC892). Would it be worth me grabbing an mATX board and a xonar card or is the sound on this itx motherboard pretty good? Thanks!

Hey guys, Recently I was dusting out the fans on my PC, very lightly with a wooden paintbrush, just generally tidying it up after 4 months of use of my PC, I may have knocked a stick of ram softly with the handle but that's about it. However, after I had finished and I tried to turn my PC on and the motherboard usually has a cycle of displaying 'PNY GTX760' and the general specs, then it goes onto the ASUS screen for a second or so, then loads Windows 8. Yesterday however, it went onto an 'American Megatrends' screen i've never seen before and an 'Overclocking failed' message came up; I know my Motherboard, CPU and GPU are possible to overclock but I haven't tried it just yet. The PC then went into a loop of turning off and on, off and on, until it chucked me into the BIOS and I thought i'd try out resetting to defaults, so I did and tried it, and it worked; however i usually use the 'High Performance' setting in the ASUS BIOS, and this was running on normal... Could this be a problem with any hardware (RAM, Motherboard etc) and could it hinder me when i come to overclock the PC? Thanks for your time. Rhys Edit: I have not noticed any drop in performance whilst playing things like GRID2 on Ultra and 1080p settings with screen recording.

Hey all. I was looking into getting a Corsair Obsidian 450d. It looks real nice and fits perfectly on my desk, however, along with the new case I am also looking into getting a CPU water cooling loop in. I was intiay looking at adding a H60 into the rear exhast, but would it be possible to mount a longer radiator at the top. I have a Asus P8z77-LX2 motherboard which has, higher than the rear I/O heatsinks, which are a pain and have seen them causing issues with fans on rads. So, my question is; Does anyone know whether I could add a radiator with fans in the top of a 450d without any clearance issues with my mobo? Many thanks.

Hi everyone, I've just switched out my MSI Z77A-G45 Motherboard in favour of and Asus P8Z77-I Deluxe (just to downsize), and was wondering two things: 1) Do i need to do a clean install of windows 7? 2) I booted it up initially and it went right back into windows...I thought you had to re-install windows with a new motherboard - is that true? Anyways, when I tried to re-install and boot from a win7 DVD, it gives me a blue screen with the ACPI.sys error every time. So essentially I was wondering if it's okay just to run off the new motherboard with no clean install and just install the new chipset drivers, or if I need to reformat and fix that blue screen error. Any help is greatly appreciated!

Hey Techies! I was just wondering your views on the colour change of the Asus boards. I personally am build a rig with a black/blue theme, I thought about using it with Haswell, but with the Z87 colour change, my thoguhts of getting it went out the window

ASUS P8Z77 - Strange noise from audio jack
rretsiem posted a topic in CPUs, Motherboards, and Memory
Hi, Since I haven't found an answer to my problem yet, I try it in this forum and hope I can find a solution. I've built a PC in March with a ASUS P8Z77-VLX motherboard and tried to connect speakers or headphones to the audio jack in the last couple of weeks with always the same problem. I hear a strange noise, sounds like I could hear some fans spinning even when the PC is idle. When starting a game and some load is generated the noise gets even louder. The strange thing is, that even when I move my USB mouse the noise gets a different frequency, but it's never muted there is still some ground noise. I haven't heard this from the beginning since I started with USB Audio devices only and there is no such noise. It also doesn't matter which audio jack (rear/front) I choose, always the same annoying noise. Has anyone a idea what the problem could be here and how to fix this?
