  1. So I am thinking about building my first PC, but I understand the current state of GPU shortages (and some other parts aren't very available as well) and increased prices. I currently have a 6 y.o. laptop that still works fine, but starts to show issues so I want to start building soon. I have made a build that I would love to have, and an alright build that could last me a couple of years (for anyone interested, I will write it down below). The build that I would love to have is outside my budget atm. Here's my question: Which of the following options would be best? Build the alright pc, which will last me a few years but need to be replaced completely when I want a better pc Build the good pc, but replace the GPU and CPU with something I could survive with for a couple of months, and replace it as soon as prices get to normal. The second one would get me my dream pc, but I will have to deal with a bad one for a while and will need to discard a CPU and GPU in (hopefuly) a couple of months, while the first one could last me a while longer without replacement, but once I need to replace stuff I will probably want to upgrade the whole thing. I also could go for a prebuild, but that removes the fun of building it myself and I feel like with prebuilds I always have to give up something (like they put a good GPU on a crappy motherboard or something) so I'd rather not do that. Thanks for your help! The two builds: The good pc: AMD Ryzen 5 5600X MSI B550-A pro MSI GeForce RTX 3060ti Corsair 32GB 3600 Corsair 4000D Airflow Dark Rock Pro 4 If I go for this one, I will replace the cpu with a ryzen 5 3xxx and the gpu for a GTX 1650 probably (not sure yet) The alright build: AMD Ryzen 7 3700X MSI B450 Tomahawk GeForce 1660 Super Corsair 16GB 3200 Aerocool SI-5100 Budget (including currency): ~€1500 I guess? Country: The Netherlands Games, programs or workloads that it will be used for: Microsoft Power BI/SSMS, Assassin's Creed Valhalla, over 9000 Chrome tabs, YouTube Other details: I know RGB makes your PC ultrafast but I don't care about having a disco under my desk
  2. Budget (including currency): 4000-7000 SEK/ €400-700 (ideally at lower end but I can stretch) Country: Sweden Games, programs or workloads that it will be used for: Studio one 3 Professional, Forza Horizon 5, Sea of Thieves, GTA V, CSGO, Valorant, Doom Eternal, Witcher 3. Gaming at 1440p144hz Other details: I'll be upgrading from the following rig. Parts I plan to keep are bolded. MOBO: MSI B85M-E45 RAM: Kingston DDR3 1600mHz CPU: Intel i7-4771 Cooler: BeQuiet PureRock Slim Storage: 3 x 1tb Samsung 870 EVO GPU: MSI Mech OC Radeon RX5700 PSU: Seasonic Focus Plus Gold 750W Case: Fractal Design Define Mini C Naturally, I've been looking at the i5-12600 and i7-12700. I've decided against the K-versions as I'm not really interested in overclocking. Additionally, I'd have to buy an aftermarket cooler just to get the system up and running, which would hurt the value proposition considerably. Instead, I'll be using the included RM1-cooler until I can't stand the noise or if the thermals are unacceptable. At that point, more affordable coolers will be available for the 1700-socket. So here's the question: would the ~50% price increase from the 12600 to the 12700 be worth it? I'd like to be able to use the parts for at least 4-5 years with my current resolution and at least 100ish fps. These are my current options: I've already purchased the RAM. What would you do in my position?
  3. Hi folks, This is my first post here so firstly hi all! Thanks in advance for anyone who reads and takes the time to respond - I appreciate it. I'm interested in what performance gains I might be able to get by upgrading my system (specs below). Most of my usage is on SketchUp, Enscape, V-Ray and some other CAD programs, though I do do some gaming and image/video editing too. As I understand it, my biggest limitation at the moment might be the single-core processing speed? Also I guess ram speed could be improved if I change CPU & motherboard? I've been getting a few WHEA errors recently, and I think it might be one of the RAM sticks, so I may have to replace them in order to be sure. No suggestions are bad- I'm open minded. Budget... well lets say no more than £2k for any combination of upgrades. Current rig: CASE: NZXT H700i MB: ROG Rampage VI Omega Extreme PSU: Corsair RM850X CPU: i9-9900x (9900k was out of stock when I commissioned this system) Cooler: Corsair H150i Pro 360 RGB RAM: Corsair Dominator Platinum RGB DDR4 3200 16GB x 4 GPU: Asus RTX 2080ti ROG Strix OC HD1: Samsung 1TB 970 Evo Plus HD2: Seagate 2TB Barracuda ST200DM008 Current temps: System is OC'd to about 28% (stock OC at SCAN computers, I'm not messing...) when using the Occulus Quest 2 in link mode to view an Enscape model the GPU usage goes straight to 100%, and gets up to around 70C. CPU never gets above 60C. Thanks!
  4. Hi all, The full size Torrent case seemingly is only available to order with RGB in black, why on earth is this? It seems like it's a choice of the colour you want, or RGB, but not both. I cannot see the logic in shipping one colour of the case in RGB fans installed, and not others? Are they likely to release it down the line in grey/white with the RGB fans, or should I just look at other options? Thanks, Kagan
  5. I am currently looking for a laptop for high school. It will mainly be using Google Services, but I want it to be a windows device so it isn't useless after school. I also want to do a little light gaming, probably just a little Minecraft and similar intensity games at mid graphical settings. My budget is ~550$, though going a little under budget would be nice. I am currently looking at the Lenovo Ideapad Flex 5 14 (AMD 5500U & 16gb RAM). Is there another computer I should be looking at? Thanks in advance for your response.
  6. I'm looking at getting either the 1060 WINDFORCE OC, or the G1 Gaming 1060, however I'm a little confused as to what one is best. There's only around 40Mhz clock difference between the two cards, with around £30 being the price difference. Given that I'll probably be overclocking it, would it make a difference which one I go for?
  7. I have a fairly new system, and I was wondering if I were to upgrade it, in what order should I do it, and with what options. My system specs: Thermaltake versa c22 case Gigabyte gaming 3 z170 x mobo i7 6700 k oc d to 4.5 ghz Enermax liqmax II 240 aio water cooler 5 system fans (2 corsair ml pro 120 for radiator fans, and 3 corsair hd120 for case airflow) Thermaltake tr2 gold 700w psu (new version) Gigabyte gaming 1 Gtx 1080 HyperX fury ddr4 2*8 gb 2666 ram 240 gb ssd and 1 tb hdd Corsair node pro for case lighting For peripherals I have razer mouse, headset, speakers and keyboard. Microboard m340 clz monitor. Thanks for the help!

  9. I'm looking for an alternative solution to window system resource manager, anyone know of a better solution to manage resources on Windows server 2012 R2?
  10. My mom's laptop is having an issue, I don't know how it happened or what could have caused it. I am not quite sure how to describe the issue, but I will try. When accessing the file explorer, usually the file tab has several options including the print option, currently, none of the normal options are showing and instead replaced with a set I've never seen before. (see picture) what I would like to know I how to fix it so that the normal options are showing.
  11. Well while the options are good to have, the fact that you're limited to just one is not great. What if I consider a post from someone funny and also I agree with it? I can only pick one. Why not allow people to select multiple options? And what would be a great feature would be a dislike/disagree button. Yeah yeah yeah in the declined suggestion thread it says that if you disagree with something to quote that comment and explain why you disagree with that person's comment. However something you guys aren't taken in consideration is that doing that actually starts "wars" among some users. And what was a good thread before, looks like a youtube comment section. The disagree/dislike/whatever you call it button would be great new feature. You don't like something, you click that button and move on. 12. Hi guys I'm going to upgrade my RAM for my Ryzen 5 1600 system Which one of these kits should I get? I use my system for gaming They cost about the same except for the last one. How much of a performance difference will I see with 3000mhz instead of 3200mhz? https://tweakers.net/pricewatch/496055/g-punt-skill-ripjaws-v-f4-3200c16d-16gvgb.html https://tweakers.net/pricewatch/786133/corsair-vengeance-lpx-cmk16gx4m2z3200c16.html https://tweakers.net/pricewatch/671721/g-punt-skill-aegis-f4-3000c16d-16gisb.html
  13. I'm buying an MSI Corsair Hydro GFX AIO shroud (picture attached) for my ASUS GTX1080ti FE and have a couple of questions, Do you think whats pictured is worth $50AUD? and my main question, What fan should I get for the radiator? I've narrowed it down to three options. Noctua NF-F12 Industrial PPC 120mm 2000RPM PWM Fan - $39AUD https://www.centrecom.com.au/noctua-nf-f12-industrial-ppc-120mm-2000rpm-pwm-fan Noctua NF-P12 Redux Edition 1700RPM PWM Fan 120mm - $35AUD https://www.pccasegear.com/products/44931 be quiet! Silent Wings 3 120mm PWM Fan 2200RPM High Speed Edition - $29AUD https://www.pccasegear.com/products/37643/be-quiet-silent-wings-3-120mm-pwm-fan-high-speed-edition Now on paper, it looks like the Silent Wings 3 is the obvious choice boasting 28.6dB @ 2200RPM which is slightly quieter and slightly faster than the NF-F12 making 29.7dB @ 2000RPM while managing to be $10 cheaper. I'm curious if real-life tests show different results though because I've come to notice with PC parts that it isn't as "cut and dried" comparing a specs list to simply deduce what's best. This and the fact that I've always heard Noctua to be the best performing fans while still managing to be quiet. Also, I feel as if I'm biased towards the be quiet because three of my case fans are be quiet and my CPU cooler is the be quiet dark rock pro 4. Which I've had no troubles with and am very impressed with so far. Bottom line, my mind was pretty much made up from the beginning on the Silent Wings 3 when I compared the numbers but I want to hear personal experiences that might sway me towards Noctua. I thought I’d add that I won't leave the fan set to a static speed, I’ll adjust the curve to correspond with the GPU temperature so it will be on lowest at idle, probably 1000 at the mid-range and hopefully around 1250-1500 on the higher loads, only letting the RPM max out if the temps start to hit thermal limits
  14. I'm having a dilemma with a bunch of ideas for a build using parts lying around the house after upgrading my main rig. I've ran through 3 build scenarios, though my current X99 board had a 00 error and am not 100% sure whether the motherboard or CPU is fried. I'm basing this on assuming the board needs RMA'd and fixed. They are going for around $250 used on Ebay right now. However, selling these and buying some new core components seems like a good idea. The 2200G build I have is the most enticing financially, but I'm concerned it will be a giant bottleneck with a dedicated GPU pairing like a GTX 1070. I also understand that Computex 2019 is soon, and there could be some stellar new APU's and CPU's coming out for a great price, but I'm basing all this on what is available now. I'm curious to get feedback if any of these builds or paths make sense. I'm trying to do it on the cheap, but not corner myself with no upgrade path or bad bottlenecks. 15. Hello, I have a MSI GE63 8RF-099CA laptop which has Nvidia GTX 1070 graphics card. Also, it has Intel integrated graphics 630 in it. So in the Nvidia Control Panel, only the 3D Settings Option is available. I am pretty sure there are more than just one option! So I would like to get the other options too like the Display option, Stereoscopic 3D option, and the Video option. Also, does the Intel Integrated Graphics have to do with it? (NVIDIA OPTIMUS) What the thing with Display Driver Uninstaller? Will it help in any situation regarding this issue? Thank You.
  16. Heya! I'm moving away from home (yay me), and it's compact living time. My triple monitor setup has to go, and I've been eyeing some 4K monitors with good color accuracy for editing since I do photography. The 27UD88 has been my first hand choice, it seems to pack alot of good stuff and works well for gaming. But.. From what I've heard the 27UD68 is the *exact* same monitor as the 88 but without the extra USB ports, such as 3.0 and Type-C. See, I'm in no need of those ports, so if it's about 200$ cheaper without them and still offer the same picture quality.. I'll get the 68. I basically want this confirmed, I've looked around a fair bit and can only find one old forum post from 2 years ago that was kind of vague. That or if you have any other good options ofc! Thanks!
  17. Okay, so i purchased an XPS 15 9570. I love it. Its is amazing. However; what other laptops would you guys recommend within that price range (max $1600/$1700). I'm looking for something with amazing battery life that is good to look at, aesthetically pleasing and can game well enough on occasion. If i cant find any alternatives or anything i'll probably stick with the XPS but i plan to experiment and find something amazing. Anything out there that offers everything the XPS has to offer and more? Also im very big on IO - i'd love something with all the IO id ever need generally speaking but thats kinda an added bonus thing for me. Give me your best shot guys! Maybe Linus can give his personal recommendation? haha id instantly buy whatever he recommends honestly. But lets see what we got EDIT : Id also love a 2 in 1 that is amazing... that said tho, opinions on the XPS 15 2 in 1?
  18. So... I think I have my build mostly figured out (alot of research), as the title says trying to build kind of a jack of all trades on a budget. Gaming and CAD are the most important, but I guess if your machine can do either well it is probably ok for some light streaming. Gaming 50% CAD 45% Gaming/Streaming 5%. Budget is hard cap of $1200, but preferably under $1000. CAD is usually pretty light but I do sometimes get into very large assemblies and simulations. CPU: AMD - Ryzen 5 2600 3.4GHz 6-Core Processor ($165.99 @ Amazon) Motherboard: MSI - B450M PRO-VDH Micro ATX AM4 Motherboard ($79.62 @ Newegg) Memory: Corsair - Vengeance LPX 16GB (2 x 8GB) DDR4-3000 Memory ($169.99 @ Amazon) Storage: Samsung - 970 Evo 250GB M.2-2280 Solid State Drive ($99.99 @ Amazon) Storage: Seagate - BarraCuda 1TB 3.5" 7200RPM Internal Hard Drive ($39.99 @ Amazon) Video Card: MSI - GeForce GTX 1060 6GB 6GB GAMING Video Card ($284.98 @ Newegg) Case: Corsair - 270R ATX Mid Tower Case ($59.99 @ Newegg) Power Supply: Corsair - RMx (2018) 650W 80+ Gold Certified Fully-Modular ATX Power Supply ($79.99 @ Newegg) Total: $980.54 Open to input. At the moment I have peripherals (monitors, keyboard, mouse, etc.) they would be upgraded later to take advantage of the hardware. So some questions: Would a 2700X give me meaningful gains over the 2600, for litteraly 2x the cost? Would 8 gig of RAM with a 1070/1070ti better for gaming at 1080 ultra wide high/ultra settings than 16 gig with a 1060 6gb? (about the same cost) Would the 8 + 1070 or 16 + 1060 be better for CAD? Would 8 gigs ram be to detremental to CAD to even consider? Any other input is welcome.
  19. So I'm by no means educated on routers. So this is a few questions, and some recommendations if possible. 1: Id like to improve WiFi range through my house, and i assume that a new router will improve that. Will it? (Coming form a 5+ y/o fios base router) 2: As well as improving WiFi range, are all routers the same in that, i need no more than ~3 Ethernet ports, and decent WiFi. Does a router with more ports (ethernet) differ from one than less? What do more antenna do? 3: Someone explain 2.4 ghz vs 5 ghz in a real world metric. I think i know that 5ghz is less crowded, higher penetration, but lower range. But if I put it downstairs and a room over, will it be better than what i have? (plywood and drywall walls) 4: recommendations under 150$
  20. I was going to buy a full ATX motherboard for my new build: ASUS B150-PLUS D3 LGA 1151 Intel B150 SATA 6Gb/s USB 3.0 ATX But then my friend suggested that I get a micro ATX because it can support all my expansion cards (graphics and wireless network) but if half the price. I know that motherboards don't effect the computer's performance, but are there any other drawbacks to having a Micro ATX? Can most micro ATX boards support intel i7 processors, and if so, are they more expensive in that case? Also, are there generally enough fan control thingys on the board to control two case fans and a CPU fan? Thanks for any help i really appreciate it. -insta kill
  21. Rainbow Six Siege does not use the dongle/DAC that comes with the HyperX Cloud 2. Therefor the microphone volume for Rainbow Six Siege is very low. I tested this when I went in CS GO had a friend listen to me. I could adjust my Mic volume with the dongle and he could hear me perfectly. However, when I jumped into a game of Rainbow Six Siege, he could not hear me at all. I tried adjusting my Mic volume with the dongle and it did not make a difference. I have all of the in game settings turned to 100 and still the same results for Rainbow Six Siege. The worst part is that HyperX is selling this headset with the game.
  22. I have around $510 to spend on my PC/Setup. But I'm stuck between two options, first of which being a DX-Racer, K70, and one more Acer monitor (For a total of 3). The second option is an i5 Skylake CPU, Gigabyte 1151 Mobo and 16GBs of Corsair Platinum DDR4 memory. My current setup has a rocking chair for a seat, 2 monitors, and a Razer Black Widow Ultimate 2014 keyboard. My current rig has an 8350 at stock clock, 8gb of avexir ram and 8gb of vengence lp ram, with a Gigabyte am3+ mobo. http://strawpoll.me/6570190

  24. About an hour or so ago, I bought Middle-earth: Shadow of Mordor GOTY from Bundle Stars, as the game was on sale for 75% off. Awesome I thought. Been wanting to get my own copy of this game on PC for a while. Once the Steam setup finished and and everything loaded, I went directly into the Options menu as any PC gamer would. After checking every possible menu, I did not find any option for toggle stealthing and/or crouching! How the hell did the developers miss this? Almost every PC game I've played has a crouch toggle. Toggle aiming is much less common unfortunately. The lack of this option makes this game borderline impossible for me to play. I have limited fine motor mobility as it is. I almost feel like I would have been better off purchasing this came directly through Steam even at the higher price point. Since I bought it through a third-party website, I cannot get my $15 back. I wish Valve had a way to let people deactivate their keys. At least that way I could give the key away to someone who can actually play it.
  25. I want to do both gaming and editing with this build and I'd love some peripheral recommendations. I would also appreciate some fan and thermal compound recommendations. I want this build to be as quiet as it can without compromising too much performance.
