For a very long time I was planning on designing my own fan controller, and I'm finally doing it. I want to release the design as open-source/open-hardware so anyone could use it and benefit from it. Now with that said, I want this project to be driven by the community. This means that my goal for this project is to design something will be: Helpful / Useful - you can use it to solve a problem, or improve the quality / reliability Open - Design must be fully transparent and well documented. This way new features and integrations can be easily implemented. Accessible - Anyone should be able to order parts or kits and put them together without the need for special or expensive equipment. Affordable - Components are relatively inexpensive and/or can be excluded if they are not necessary for the build (ie. Don't need buzzer, OLED, RGB controller etc) Features that I have in mind for now are: Programmable FAN profiles (i.e. when temperature reaches X, set fan 1/2/3/4/all to Y%, when X app is running turn all fans to max or set fans to 20% during night time but only if temperature is below 40C and so on) Individual FAN speed control Support for 3-pin and 4-pin fans Temperature sensors (you can place them anywhere and use them as triggers when programming) Current sense (sens how much current each fan is drawing. Could be useful to detect fan stall, broken fan or even when over time there is a lot of dust on the blades) RPM sense (additional data point that over-time, combined with other parameters, could give more information about fan health and efficiency) Programmable and Open-Source (end user must be able to easily reprogram/update the device over USB) Buzzer (audio feedback. Can be used if fan failure, stall, high temperature or other problem is detected. Also user must be able to turn this feature on/off) Parts and components must be easily available and reasonable (end user should be able to order individual parts and assemble the thing as they see fit for their case/mod. No unicorn horns or pixie dust allowed. ) OLED support (you can connect OLED to display any information on the screen) RGB controller (you can connect RGB strip to control it) WS2812B controller (you can connect WS2812b strip, which is basically RGB strip but individually addressable) Robust and reliable (goes without saying but this has to be robust and reliable solution) These are some of the basic features that I would like to develop. This is just a draft from my head, but I think you get the idea of where I'm going, and I would really appreciate your input and feedback. Also if this is something that you are passionate about too or want to contribute in any way shape or form, let's collaborate. And as a final note, a word about me; I'm an electronics engineer/consultant with years of experience. In my free time I love to work on fun and interesting projects and share them with the community. I absolutely love sharing my projects (at the least ones that I'm allowed to) and find this to be very satisfying because I feel like I'm contributing back to the community. And most importantly I'm someone who is really passionate about tech, computers, engineering and open-source / open-hardware community. [Mods] I hope this message is appropriate and not in conflict with any forum rules. If there is a better place for this post, please move it as you best see fit. I would really like to get the LTT community involved in this project and guiding it with their feedback, suggestions and collaboration.

Hey guys, so I want to get some feedback for this little password generator/manager app I'm currently making for PC (specifically for Windows) as well as getting some advice for the future, so here goes for the advice.. Where can I release the app exclusively for PC (for now) without paying monthly fees? Is it a good idea to make the app open-source? Would this be a good thing to add to a portfolio or should I convert the code to a more well-known language first? (It's all going to be and is coded all in Delphi Pascal, because it's the only language I know at the moment) Any other suggestions and stuff regarding the app's GUI,etc.. I'm still going to tinker and whatnot but I can't do as much as I'd like rn as I'm in my first round of final exams. And this is the pre-pre-pre-alpha version of my final idea for the app, it's only a really basic password generator at the moment. Link to the github of the app : https://github.com/Kiryu02/SimPasGen Thanks in advance for the feedback/advice! Regards Ya Boi Minister

Started from this thread: I'm using C# and WPF to create the interface, and NvAPIWrapper to interact with NVIDIA APIs: https://github.com/tylercamp/ezgpuctl I've managed a basic MVP which can display GPU info and apply OCs with core offset, memory offset, and power target. Mostly using this thread to share info about this project, though it's still not entirely functional yet (recent commit removes OC GUI as I reorganize UI). Putting this thread up early in case someone wants to try their hand at adding support for AMD GPUs. Anyone interested can comment here, and should try getting readings and applying an OC using a local C# project before bringing anything into this. (I don't have abstractions yet to easily swap out the underlying GPU interface.) A C++ implementation works too, I can just write a C# wrapper for it. Not looking for this to become an in-depth OC tool (ie, no frequency curves), and GPU monitoring is essentially just for the user to verify the current GPU state, so don't need to get in-depth with reporting/OC capabilities. This is partly to constrain design scope, partly because NvAPIWrapper doesn't seem to have all of the NVIDIA APIs needed for more advanced stuff. For reference on what data to fetch, these are the current classes I have for managing GPU data: https://github.com/tylercamp/ezgpuctl/tree/main/GPUControl.Lib/GPU Screenshots:

Hey everyone. Decided to dig out this old account and buy a float-plane subscription (mind the horrible username). After buying my subscription, I noticed that watching videos in a forum is less then ideal so I decided to throw together a quick UWP app to see if it works. Currently it requires you to login through a webview, then click a button to do some web scraping to grab all the videos. It's messy, but somewhat works lol. Was interested in seeing if anyone would like a UWP floatplane app (more refined and pretty) for PC, Xbox (and phone - if Windows Phone users still exist here). Not sure if I'm allowed to post in the Apps and Windows sections - although it would make more sense. Github over here: https://github.com/DominicMaas/FloatPlane -Dominic

I have recently replaced Visual Studio 2015 with the 2017 version. But Qt 5.9.0 does not have x86 kits for MSVC 2017 (it has only x64 kit for MSVC 2017). Can I create a Qt Version that supports MSVC 2017 x86, and if yes - is it by adding a new kit manually, or by completely building Qt from source. How do I accomplish this? Thanks, Anand

The most Linux friendly, freedom respecting, no non-free driver using x470 Motherboard ? (beside the bios/uefi, i now that is proprietary) Also, the cocecs. I want the newer/better ones, but not if they require non-free software. [the bios is my only compromise of using non-free software] Please dont hesitate to give me suggestions !

Do you remember router Turris Omnia? CZ.NIC - Czech internet association is back with new campaign on IndieGogo introducing their new modular router. Open hardware running free OS based on OpenWrt should be shipped in Q3 2018. What does it mean modular you say? Well... The IndieGogo campaign took off well... https://www.indiegogo.com/projects/turris-mox-modular-open-source-router-security-computers#/

utility Efficia [Multi-Keyboard Macro Manager]
levileague posted a topic in Programs, Apps and Websites
EFFICIA After seeing the video about Tarans OVER 9000!!! macros I decided since I am going to a school were I have to code anyways I could show off this project to my teachers and help other peeps. Development Status: W.I.P. (Working on GUI elements) Ok. I know maybe there are other solutions for this problem but I would like to make it more easy for peeps like Taran who are video editors and shouldn't have to worry about such stuff as macro coding in AHK or HidMacro. I am making this post because I want to ask you, the community (and maybe Taran [If you read this Taran; keep up the good work dude!]), to help me bring this project to the light of day! If you want to help maybe post some ideas below! I am currently working on the GUI so if you have an idea about how I should handle setup of macros, dont be afraid of telling me below (sry for the bad english im from Austria (not Australia) PS: Right now I need to know how to implement stuff, in other words if it should be a window where you can setup macros or an icon in the task bar. I am gonna link this topic to the video Taran made about his macro setup. Maybe he can tell me how he, as a professional who has such things in his arsenal, would like this to be. -
Source: http://www.wired.com/2015/11/google-open-sourcing-tensorflow-shows-ais-future-is-data-not-code/ I believe that the future it's nice for Google to open-source some of their work to be able to allow researchers and engineers all around to help fix some of the flaws that are usually gazed upon.I really think that this is a great step in helping others have a chance to show their skill and help in developing machines.

Source: http://gizmodo.com/cyanogen-wants-to-wrestle-android-away-from-google-1681642100 I'm not sure what to say about this. As a oneplus one owner, my feelings toward cyanogen aren't as positive as they were before the whole india/micromax thing. Cyanogen can make a hell of a rom, but I can't agree with how they operate internally. Also the loss of google services is a HUGE hit in my opinion. I have integrated my life into many google services and loosing them might not be the greatest thing. However, I do support an open-source environment as it brings a lot of interesting things to the table. If cyanogen really wants to play rough with google, they better come correct.

On this present day we have few major mobile platforms like Android, iOS, WP and BB. But do any of you guys actually remember Symbian? A platform that served us for years and has been abandoned my Nokia (also there is the fact that Microsoft bought and killed it.). "Symbian OS still provides the base for many tens of millions of users worldwide (e.g. numbers from "Statcounter - Global Stats"). A lot of these people have trusted Nokia as their phone provider for over 20 years. Android, Symbian's biggest competitor in mobile OS, already has open source projects and allows development and distribution all over the world, and I would like to see Symbian opened up on a similar basis, for ongoing work by professional and hobbyist programmers." "SO PLEASE SIGN THIS PETITION & KEEP SYMBIAN ALIVE BEFORE IT GETS FORGOTTEN FOR DEVELOPMENT FOR MILLIONS OF SYMBIAN USERS ALL OVER THE WORLD." http://www.change.org/p/bill-gates-release-symbian-source-code-make-it-open-source-release-latest-update-builds-save-the-environment I presonally developed few stuff for this platform and if Symbian goes open-source, it would be really awesome. A platform this good should never be fogotten.

First off, I am in no way connected to the Blender Foundation in any sort of official business, though I am a daily user of their software, Blender3D. I have been lurking the linustechtips channel for years now, and I love the content. I have searched the forums and it seems like no one has mentioned Blender Foundation's latest project and what it is about. If this thread is debated to not be under the "tech" category, feel free to move it to another, more appropriate category. Straight to the point: Blender Foundation has announced project Gooseberry, the very first fully open-source, creative commons animation feature film, and crowd-funded launch trailer The story, as the CEO of Blender Foundation Ton Roosendaal describes, is about a sheep that is bored with his ordinary life, finds a merchant that offers him new and exciting lives that he can try out for 5 minutes each. Each of these parallel universe-lives are made by 12 different studios around the world, and everyone produces the film in the same software, Blender3D. The film is still in it's preproduction / crowd-funding stage, so additional information is sparse. short documentary about the launch The project has had a lot of attention from Blender users and CG-artists on the various Computer Graphics forums, but it seems like not many people from other places knows about it yet. This is the official site for the project http://gooseberry.blender.org/, and as you can see on the bottom, it needs funding. If anyone finds this project interesting, please consider donating ! The funding will be used for several things, like the obvious production costs of all the studios working on the film. Otherwise funds will help the developers expand Blender's features and stability to have it work perfectly to let anyone create anything in Blender. I know it's a busy week with all the exciting stuff happening at GDC 2014, but to have Linus and Luke mention this project in the WAN-show would surely help out a lot! Blender Foundation have already had a lot of success creating short films and games inside Blender; Caminandes: Gran Dilemma Tears of Steel Sintel Big Buck Bunny Yo Frankie! http://www.yofrankie.org/ Elephants Dream Blender3D: http://www.blender.org/ Cheers!
