Need help choosing headphones for an upgrade, here is some info: Budget - 500$ total with flexible limit (headphones + amp) Source - Focusrite Solo 3rd Gen (for monitoring my mic) Requirements for Isolation - None, will be using these at home on my PC only Will you be using these Headphones in Public? No, will be using these at home on my PC only Preferred Type of Headphone - On ear, open back, long lasting, comfortable for long use Preferred tonal balance - I prefer a balance so I can accurately listen to music when editing my own YouTube videos. I do like a more bright sound, but I'd like to hear things as accurately as possible. Past headphones - I used to own a Massdrop x Sennheiser PC37X but I swapped to a X2HR and have been using these for the past few years. Preferred Music - Pop - AJR, EDM - Camellia, Future Bass - Synthion, Jpop - Sakanaction, Rock - Foreground Eclipse, Video Game Soundtracks, (I kinda listen to a bit of everything else) What would you like to improve on from your set-up - More Detail / Clarity. I feel my current headphones cloud the mids with a bit too much bass. I would also like to hear the best and closest to the artist's intention. They also feel a little dead imo (lacking something...). In addition I play a lot of (fps) games and have been having a bit of issue with locating certain enemies where I have made bad calls because of this. Current Headphones I have been looking at - HIFIMAN Edition XS, HIFIMAN Sundara, ATH-R70X, DT 1990 Pro, DT 900 Pro X (maybe on price drop). As for Amp, I have been looking at the FiiO K5 Pro (as I think I can just plug that through to my focusrite?).

I own the Beyerdynamic amiron home and I am considering the dt 1999 pros. Many people state like Joshua valour that they sound alike with similar soundstage in detail just in different presentation. Apparently unlike the amirons which are laid back the dt 1990's are more close but people such as Zeos say that the amirons are very chill and inaccurate and not neutral like the dt 1990's. So can someone help me out if they are worth getting as a good side grade? Or if I should just play with more eq?

I've been using Pioneer headphones for years now, however there is a few things that bug me: Soundprofile: I love how it sounds when listening to music, but since they have quite strong lows, I feel like I'm having a harder time hearing steps, shots, etc. in games. Closed back: I tend to mumble / slur words a bit when I can't hear myself talking. Pressure: I wear glassed and the Pioneers get quite uncomfortable a couple hours into a gaming session. So now I am looking for good headphones around the $100 / 100€ mark that have a more neutral sound and are open back and comfortable to wear. On reddit, many people are recommending the Philips SHP9500 as a good value choice, however that one is not available in Germany. Do you have any other recommendations for me?

Hi, I currently have a Beyerdynamic 990 Pro, but it has become to un-comfortable for me to use anymore, which I think is because my ears stick out to much for the small space this headset has allocated for your ears. Therefore, I would like to find a new headset I can use instead. I am looking for something with either similar or better audio quality to the 990 pro, with comfort being a big priority for me. I have been looking at the Sennheiser 600 series, but there seems to be divided opinions on the comfort of these. The headset I am looking for needs to have: - An open back design - Audio quality similar or better than 990 Pro - Great comfort (where you don’t have to change the ear-pads each year to uphold that comfort) - Don’t care about mic since I have an external mic - A headset I can wear all day long In terms of price, I am looking for something below 500$, it doesn’t matter whether you will need an amp or dac, since I already have that. But you need to be able to buy it in the EU. Hope that you guys have some experience and can help guide me in the right direction Please ask if you need any more information.

I finally decided to get the dt990s over the he4xx and the hd58x jubilee. I decided it was the best of both worlds with both good bass, good treble and good imaging. I planned on getting the bravo v3 amplifier off of DROP but it doesn't look like they take returns. It is 45$ but I am just not sure how well it will drive the 990s. Is it a wise decision to get the bravo amp? Or should I purchase something else. I don't want to spend more than 100$. Thanks.

Hello guys Trying to choose the best possibile headphones for under 200$ ( which I AM going to use for 5 years od more) I stopped by open back Beyerdynamic 990 ( previously also considered HiFiMan HE 400i, Philips X2, Sennheiser 650). My friends advice me to choose close back for better immersion into whatever I hear in headphones. Though I prefer hearing a bit what is happening around me, and I definitely hate not hearing myself. I used to have closed headphones before and this is just not for me. So my questions are: 1) Should I choose DT990 Pro or DT990 Edition? What would be the difference? DT 990 Pro seems to be more popular and has that nice retro telephone cable . 2) To experience DT990 true potential should I buy 600 ohm or 250 ohm would be better for home only use? I did not find a clear explanation about the difference. What else should I buy to power them? 3) What is the best "price/quality" DAC/AMP to have the mentioned above true potential? 4) The most important question is if I AM making the right decision about DT990? After watching many reviews they seemed the best possibile choice due to product and sound quality/price. I need to order headphones and possibily the Amp tomorrow as my current headphones are falling apart and I almost do not hear anything while using them. And since there is still time to change my mind about Beyerdynamic and get something else, better for the same price I Ask you to help me with this.

Help me decide which one to get please! I'm going to buy a Fiio K5 pro as well so if you have any other suggestion for dac and amp feel free to help me. This are going to be for desktop use with my pc, I mainly play videogames (fps), listen to music, mostly from spotify at 320kbps but I have some flac albums and to watch movies, almost all with lossless audio. I'm coming from a pair of sennheiser momentum with a shit (not schiit unfortunately) dac. The philips are 165€ and the 58x are 145€ from massdrop with shipping to europe. Feel free to add any other suggestion. My budget is 200€ but if it's really worth it I could go up to 350€, but it has to be a big upgrade. Thanks

So as the title suggests I am trying to honestly find the best bang for my buck gaming headphone setup. Been through a whole slew of headphones and headsets labelled "gamer" and it's honestly hard to decide with there just being so many. I wanted to ask others opinions on this. I haven't been able to try them but I have heard that Sennheiser 58x Jubilee, AKG K7xx, some audio technica, and some beyer were good for gaming but I honestly have no clue to tell the truth on which would be the best to go with here. I currently use a Hyperx Cloud, the original none of its sequel designs. I have tried Hyperx's lineup, cloud, revolver s, orbit s great sound just expensive and not very comfortable imo, and alpha s, of which I honestly didn't find all that great. I also tried Sennheiser Game One which was stunningly close to hyperx cloud but just all around better I liked this headset but I felt it could be better which caused me to make this forum post asking about this. The other two I tried were the astro a40s and the steel series arctis pro with its GameDac. Out of all the headsets I have tried I personally liked the sound and comfort from the sennheiser the most with steel series in a good second place. Anyone happen to have any of these headphones or a good setup that could offer some advice on this? Would it be better just to stick to the "gamer" headset lineup or would going to a headphone lineup just be better. FPS competitive and RPG deep immersion are something I am taking into account here so it makes choosing a little more difficult. If it helps someone provide some advice and comparison personally the comfort of the earcup design that the game ones and hyperx cloud both use is what I heavily prefer as I have never been a fan of super deep or circular ear cup.

Hello! Alright so I have decided to keep my Philips Fidelio X2 using a modmic 5.0. The Fidelio X2 are really comfortable, the space in the earpads are huge! I do get some fatigue after using a few hours but that's unavoidable. Since I haven't listened to other good headphones I can't comment on the sound other than say that it's great. I recommend Philips Fidelio X2. Here's some links to websites/videos that helped me decide. Before you read below, all information and everything I know if from other people's opinions, I have never owned a real pair of headphones, plan to change that with your help! When I've decided I mark best answer as solved and write the headphones here. Backstory of why I upgrade. From what I've read, open back headphones sound better but that closed can have more base, don't quote me on that. Anyway, below are my priority list. Comfort for long sessions Sound Gaming>Movies>Music (never listened to a good pair of headphones, can't tell you want I like) Price as cheap as possible, max 300$ After reading through thread by thread, looking at video after video, I have narrowed the headphones down to those you see below (I will run modmic 5.0 with the headphones). Below are those that I first thought of buying but removed after some research on how they fair as gaming headphones(information taken from Z Reviews) and that I might need a DAC to really experience it. Please comment about open and closed headphones and what pair of headphones you think are the most comfy and sound best for gaming according to you. Sorry for having to ask so specific, I want the absolute best and will get annoyed if I don't, I don't want to feel this way but it's how I am. Thanks for the assistance in helping me choose Best Regards, Johan

hi , I'm new here and I want to get to upgrade to better headphones , currently I'm undecided between the hifiman he4xx , sennheiser hd6xx and the beyerdynamic dt990 pro , I'm currently not planning on purchasing an amp , I'm a heavy user , mainly watching very HQ media on my phone and laptop for long periods of time , I currently have closed back headphones , I have never listened to open back ones , I care mainly about the sound , and the like 10% about comfort , but I'll prefer headphones that sound the best rather than the most comfortable. thanks in advance.(btw , I'm from Israel). I have also heard some bad stuff on the headphones , that the hifiman he4xx has very bad build quality and that some of them come out of the box half dead. that the 990 pros have a bad non detachable and have ear hurting treble. that the hd6xx have some kind of veil , and also hard to power without an amp. thanks in advance.

So as you can tell by the title I’m looking for a pair of open back headphones that I’ll mostly use for gaming around €100 (not 150) without an amp. I’ll sometimes listen to hip hop music. The most important thing I’m looking for is being able to pick up where people are in game, listening to hip hop music is less important. I use my laptop on board sound card that can run up to 50 ohm’s, may struggle at 80, may not I haven’t tested. I’ve had the dt990 pro’s and I liked the sound of them, especially the positional cues in games were fantastic. The v shaped sound signature of the headphones kinda bothered me a tiny bit but that’s just me nitpicking. The reason I returned them was because of them needing an amp to run properly which I don’t have and have no interest in buying. I just got Sennheiser HD559’s but the positional audio on the headphones are terrible compared to the dt990’s so I’m returning them as well. I’m open to new sound signatures, I just need the best positional audio I can get, if the headphones play hip hop well too that’s a plus. I heard that the Philips shp9500 are really good and I can get them for €85. All recommendations are appreciated. Thanks in advance guys, really appreciate it!

Hi Guys I currently have the Audio Technica ATH-AD900X and they don't fit my small head I am looking to get some new head phones. I am using them with a go xlr mini that is connected to my xbox so I don't want to go to crazy but I want to get a good pair of head phones. I am looking at either getting a different set of audio Technica head phones or some senhiser head phones. Any help would be great.

I am in the final phase of acquiring new heaphones to replace my g35 headset. In the process I listened to multiple heaphones. I noticed that multiple open back headphones give me a headache. Some more an some less but all of them do. I read some thinned about getting used to heaphones but is it really that normal to get a headache so terrible you have to stop listening? (Both my current amp and headphones were damaged on arrival and I will have to RMA anyways. Just want to tell you about them it I don't think it is to blame any of those two factors since I listened to working combos of headphones and amps and got the same result a HEADACHE even though they sounded very pleasant.)
